Hi All,

Chloe - Ben is a snorter too. He has been a bit bunged up this week and was wheezy the other day. The doctor said babies born this time of year do seem to get a lot of snuffles and he said you can buy some nose drops from the chemist so if Oscar is still snuffly you may want to get some. Dont think they are expensive.

Ben is cluster feeding during the evenings between 7.30pm and midnight. Last night we tried to space him out a bit with a dummy and managed to do so for an hour and then bathed him and fed him but he still wanted more an hour later. I put him down at 12.45am and then he woke at 2.15am and DH fed him at 5.45am but then he sleeps really well until about 10.30am. I'm going to try and get everything done early today and put him upstairs in his moses basket after his 9pm(ish) feed and see if we can get him to settle for longer.

We registered him yesterday and managed a brief shopping trip in town which went well as he slept the whole way round. Have filled in and sent the child benefit form and now going to try and do the tax credits whilst I have an hour. We are taking him to the osteopath at 2.30pm as apparantly this is good for newborns after birth as they go through a lot too. As Ben had the cord around his neck the midwife said it was like he was bungie jumping poor little thing so maybe this will help him settle a bit.

Hooray for Flame - perhaps we will have another lady on this thread later on. Not many left now!!!

ellenrose · 23/02/2006 15:18

Thank god for Lansinoh - it really does do the trick.

Snowing here too but only gently and not settling but too cold to go out.

Had really hoped to get Maisie into more of a routine as ds2 is finishing nursery tomorrow but does not look like it is working - will try harder next week

YeahBut · 23/02/2006 19:56

Chloe, I'd echo what others have posted. You can get saline nose drops for babies from the chemist which really help unblock them. Alex is also very snuffly atm, probably because he has 2 big sisters bringing all sorts of coughs and cold viruses into the house.

Wonder how Flame is going...?

Tabs · 23/02/2006 23:31

Another little update from Ixel. She's still in hospital at the moment, as they are running some tests on Bram for breathing a bit fast. She'll be back on line as soon as she can be.

Chloe55 · 24/02/2006 09:33

Flame has had her baby boy just in case anyone missed it - one of the other mnetters posted on the labour thread - woohoo!

Ds is still sniffly today but doesn't seem as bad as yesterday, thanks for your advise - I saw those drops in the chemist but wasn't sure if you could use them in babies so young - I think I will invest today if he doesn't improve.

DH has gone back to work today He really didn't want to go and he looked so sad last night when he was cuddling ds, he is worried he won't get to see him enough now, paternity sucks - why do dads get so little time with their kids, are they less important?

Mum has decided I shouldn't be on my own so soon and has arranged for my nan to spend the day with me - what a joy Just when i was ready to have a day on my own!!!

JuA · 24/02/2006 11:57

Morning
Congratulations Flame - we must have nearly as many boys as girls now!

Ixel - hope Bram is OK and it turns out to be nothing to worry about.

Chloe - hope Oscar is a bit less "snorty" now - both of mine snuffle quite alot, Emily has been a bit snotty but seems to be a bit better now. I was worried she was going to get dd1's cold.

Tabs - I wouldn't worry too much about a routine at the moment - with dd1 every time I thought she had settled into a pattern she changed it - I am much more relaxed wih these 2 - although I am trying to get them to feed at roughly the same times and I won't let them go longer than 4 hours during the day without a feed.
They are mostly being good over night - usually go for about 5 hours between feeds so we are getting about 4 hours unbroken sleep which is fantastic. but sometimes one of them takes ages to settle back to sleep so one of us usually ends up downstairs so the other one can sleep and we don't wake dd1 up!
Health Visitor is coming after lunch to weigh them again so must go and tidy a few toys away.

Thell · 24/02/2006 13:25

Wow - you all seem to be doing so well, and working really hard with your little ones.
I might be a sucker for punishment, but I'm really looking forward to joining you, very soon
Looking forward to worrying about nipples and cuddles (and not drinking pink tea anymore!)

Chloe55 · 24/02/2006 16:08

Wow JuA - I forget that you have two babies when I sometimes feel exhausted with the one! How fantastic that you have managed to get them both into such a good routine.

Ixel - hope all is ok with you and Bram.

Today has actually been quite pleasant with my nan and ds has been very well-behaved, I shouldn't be so quick to presume I must have time on my own, I've enjoyed the company. We are off to go and see ds great, great grandad of 97 tomorrow - will have to take plenty of piccies to show him when he is older

cuffyj1 · 25/02/2006 11:00

hi eveyone, hope you're all doin well.

Lewis is just over 2 wks old now and doin fine he was weighed on monday and had lost just half an ounce. He's also suffering with colic and screaming for a few hours on an evening but he does seem to be getting slightly better thanks to infacol.

Dh is helping out as much as he can, he can't cope very well when he screams but he tries, he's also not very good at nappies so its just easier for me to do it but he's learning. He's doin all housework tho (due to my c-section) which is fab. I'm just about recovered from c-sec now just still a little tenderness on my belly. i've now decided i'd like another baby cos at first i said never again but now i can get about without been in agony i'll go thru it again cos it's so worth the pain.

Dh isn't back at work til march 9th cos he took paternity leave and used his holidays so he'll have a month off altogether. The only bad thing is i've got so used to him been here i don't want him to go back, not sure i'll cope!

We've been out and bought a new car (citreon picasso) as we had a fiat stilo, which pushchair fits in but not much else, and a citreon c3 that without parcel shelf pushchair just about fits in but nothing else, so we've replaced the c3. Didn't realise just how much you need when you leave the house with a baby.

Thats about all from me, lewis is asleep so i'm gonna think about getting myself dressed.

Take care xx

Morgan · 25/02/2006 11:20

Hi everyone,

We are doing ok here - sort of sticking to the routine - although we had a couple of funny evenings with colic so started the infacol and last night Lauren wdn't settle until 12.15 after her 10 o clock feed so i was rather tired today but managed a sleep at lunchtime so feel ok now. Only problem is we have just about run out of food and have had no time to go shopping yet.

JuA - well done with the twins they seem to be sleeping well - 5 hours is great!

Flame - huge congrats on your new arrival.

Cuffyj1 - good for your dh taking lots of time off - you will be fine when he goes back though!I remember feeling like that with ds - just have to get organised and not forget anything essential like the remote when you sit down to feed!

Tabs - hope you have got a bit more sleep and are enjoying the weekend with dh.

Flamesparrow · 25/02/2006 13:04

I get officially play with you all!!! Gory details birth announcement is up now .

All is good here... stitches not much of an issue (yet), feeding well, sleeping lots (which DD never did!!!), only the whole boy bits for nappy changes which I'm still coming to terms with!!!

How long do afterpains last??

Ooh, and I've completely forgotten... how long is it before the cord drops off???

Big hugs to all, scanned messages, but not really taken them in...

Tabs · 25/02/2006 16:24

I had 6 hours sleep last night . 4 hours then up for 1 1/2 then another 2 asleep. Feel almost human again! Was worried that I was getting really ill - was quite feverish yesterday, which was really the last thing I needed. Bed was soaking when I was up with Pippa in the night, so hoping I've sweated whatever it was out of me. DH said that flu like symptoms come with mastitis, but only book I could find said you get weird red lines on your boobs too, and I don't have any, so I guess that's unlikely - phew!

Welcome officially Flame - will go look for the gory details thread in a sec. Cord takes about 5 days to drop off. Afterpains vary - they are supposed to be worse but over more quickly if you are breastfeeding, and can be worse with each birth (though not sure mine could have been any worse than this time!). Think mine lasted a week or thereabouts.

Right, off to buy some shares in infacol now! Sounds like I'm not the only one who needs to invest!

4blue1pink · 25/02/2006 17:04

Hi Girls,

Apart from fact my daughter has just been sick all is well in our household!

Baby went 7 hours last night then 2 more so feeling utterly refreshed ( after a heavy session on the breast pump to alleviate boobs)

Dreading dh return to work on Mon

Hope you are all enjoying your tiny ones - wish we would name ours but there never seems to be time and fourth boy takes some thought!

Frizbetheexpansionset · 25/02/2006 17:30

Sorry for the crash again ladies, but have been keeping an eye on you, sorry to hear about the sickness 4b1p....
Flame I shall go and look for the gory details now!
Hopefully the remaining 4 of us will be joining you all at somepoint.....

3k · 25/02/2006 18:22

Congratulations Flame. I shall have to catch up on your birth announcement shortly.

Ben is two weeks old tomorrow and his cord stump is still attached. Will it ever drop off???? Midwife is coming to check it again on Tuesday but isnt concerned.

Ben did really well last night. I put him down at 11.30pm and he slept to 3.45am and then he had another feed at 6.30am and slept to 10.30am. He is good through the night really but wants feeding constantly throughout the day. We just took him out for a few hours in the pram and he is still sleeping so will probably start his feeding again soon.

No other news from me really, DH went back to work today and I hated it. It's lonely being at home with a baby and not being able to drive anywhere due to section. Felt like I had fed all day long and was glad when he got home. Hopefully I'll adapt fast and get into a routine and used to being on my own with him during the week.

Glad you had a good sleep last night Tabs, it makes all the difference.

Jasnem · 25/02/2006 18:48

Evening, ladies,

I'm very impressed that you all seem to be getting into a bit of a routine, and even getting a bit of sleep.Well done!
I'm busy doing nothing - I know I should be making the most of it, but I've really run out of things to do. If all goes to plan, I should be joining you all properly this time next week at the latest.

TicTac · 25/02/2006 23:23

Welcome Flame. I just read your bith announcment...well done you!!
I think I would be too scared for a homebirth but yours sounded wonderful!

Is it too late for me to post my birth announcment on there?!?!

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 26/02/2006 10:02

Never too late TicTac!

Fairies came in the night and swapped my breasts for bowling balls!

DH stayed up most of the night with a very unsettled little man so that I could get some rest - I think the poor little guy was probably just plain hungry, but he managed to hold out long enough for me to sleep a couple of hours, and for proper milk to come in!

Chloe55 · 26/02/2006 11:32

Morning girls,

Tabs - I had a night of feeling really feverish and I also panicked it might be an onset of mastitis, woke up and the bed was wet through then I was absolutely fine a few hours later, hope you are feeling 100% again now.

Flame - PMSL at the fairies coming, I couldn't believe it when I woke up a couple of days after having ds and having these enormous footballs on the front of my chest, thankfully they have shrunk a little now, dh loved them though

Cuffy - Good to hear that you are recovering well from your c-section, I bet we were in the hospital at the same time, ds is 2 weeks old today.

To everyone else - hope routines are continuing to go well and you are all really enjoying motherhood.

Frizbetheexpansionset · 26/02/2006 12:29

jaswaters

Look girls, hopefully Jas is finally on her way to join you all not heard from Thell or Helen, so probably both dropped, so am I the last??

Tabs · 26/02/2006 12:47

That's reassuring, but odd that there was no explanantion for you either Chloe - thanks! Unfortunately I do think that something might be wrong now, though prob not as serious as mastitis. Does anyone have experience of a blocked duct at all, and can suggest anything practical that I can do to help? Have a hard lumpy bit in top of left breast, and it's a bit red there, so from brief bit of googling that I had chance for, think this might be the problem. Will see what h/v thinks tomorrow, but if there's anything I can do to help it in the mean time then please tell me! I know that it's important to keep on using it for nursing, so am carrying on as normal for now.

Jasnem · 26/02/2006 14:18

Tabs - try a hot shower, and massaging it towards the nipple to try and unblock it. I'm sure that's the thing I've seen recommended here . And you're right to keep feeding on that side.

Still not having baby, but pretty sure I'm not going to have to wait to be induced.

Chloe55 · 26/02/2006 16:42

Tabs - God, I'm gonna sound like 'I had this' 'I had that' but I actually noticed a hard lump, about the size of a marble in my left breast last week - midwife advised me to gently massage the lump downwards as Jasnem suggested and to lay warm flannels over the area. She thinks I might have blocked a duct because I had a tendancy to put pressure on my boob when feeding to make sure I didn't suffocate ds I have since been told never to do this as it results in blocked ducts - I guess I had to learn from my mistake!

Tabs · 26/02/2006 19:38

lol Chloe! You're welcome to have experienced the same if I can benefit fom it! Am giving the massaging a go and will let you know how I get on. Not sure if I'll get online much tomorrow as DH is currently picking my parents up at airport and they'll be about some of tomorrow - not sure when they're planning on going back home.

hotmama · 27/02/2006 10:12

Morning girls! Smile

I can now post as I have had some sleep. Dd2 decided on Weds night that she was going to begin to cluster feed between 12 and 3 am and did so for 3 nights - I was so knackered I felt like I was drunk as I was so sleep deprived - anyway since Saturday night things have been better - so I feel a bit more human now! Wink

I have now weaned myself off the nipple shields, and apart from the OMG split second feeling at the beginning of a feed - I don't seem to be having any pain - woohoo!

Dd2 is nearly back up to her birth weight so I am trying to relax about the amount of feeds - though she does need to be woken up or she would sleep for ages during the day - nappy changes are the only thing that seems to wake her enough. She sure does enough poohy/wet nappies! Wink

How is everyone doing? I'm sure we will post more in the coming weeks - sleep is more important in my case! Shock

Dd1 is still full-time at nursery because of me having a section - don't know how I would cope if she wasn't - hope to have her back doing part-time next week.

Dd1 kissed dd2 yesterday - so I think she is beginning to accept her - aahh! Smile

PS I've got lumpy boobs so am going to have a bath.
