OMG I have an amazon on my hands, I have just had to throw out all the 3-6 month sleep suits as Hannah is too long for them, she was 3 months yeaterday and is already well into the 6-9 month stuff. dh is 6'6" which may have something to do with it.

Hi All, haven't had time to catch up on all the posts yet, but i will do in due course.

Well, we came back from holiday yesterday, 2 days early, having had the worst time ever. MIL tried poisoning Joey by cooking him pureed veg WITH SALT!!!, she was trying to undermine everything i did, unsettled Joey to the point that he hasn't slept or fed properly for the last 6 days, he's got a manky rash under his chin from all the dribbling in the cold weather at Center Parcs, i had (what felt like at the time!) a mini nervous breakdown, and i've somehow torn 2 tendons in my right shoulder that now need a steroid injection. We were supposed to go back up to MIL's but thankfully, my partner took charge of the situation (and actually listened to my cries for help!)and bundled us all in the car and bought us home. Good job too, as we got back to heavy snow! Enough of my ranting...nothing a big glass of wine this evening won't cure Have a good weekend, NM x

oh DEAR nervous mum

I am personally of the opinion that there is no such thing as a holiday with children

I am saving up to go away in 18 years time

Report
nervousmum · 28/01/2006 18:45

The thing is, when we took him away in December, he loved it and that was when he started sleeping through. I think most of the problem this time was having to drive him for 6 hours up to MIL first for a few days (at her insistance!), then 3 hours travelling back down to our holiday destination. Even with feeding stops, it was just too long in his car seat. If we go again, we will just go straight to Center Parcs. If MIL wants to see her grandson, she can drive the 6 hours down to us!

oh nervousmum, sorry you had such a bad time. It's terrible when people who have had kids (years ago) try to undermind you and undo all the good work / routines that you have set down.
I find it really upsetting that inlaws cant be bothered to travel to see their grandchildren and expect us to do all the running around. Because we have not been to see FIL or MIL, they have not made the effort to see us (my DH's job hours have changed so he doesn't get home til six now and we start bathing Evie at seven) and were moaning the other day, even though they only live ten minutes up the road, they could easily come see us. Grrrr

Hi - havn't posted for ages but following the thread. My baby was early october and just wondered if anyone has tries a bit of solid yet. My girl is sooo hungry closing in feeds - drinking 34 ounces o f formula and waking early hungry after having slept through since 4 weeks (yes I know some of you with bad sleepers could lynch me !)Tried teenyish bit of rice with 6.00pm feed today. Anyone else sucumbed yet ? I know recommendations are for 6 months now but boy do you know when a baby is ready !! Also she is close to 4 months now which 2 years ago was ok to start solids !

marinda, don't feel bad about solids. It's all down to the individual baby. My little one is not quite four months but has been on solids for the past week. She's 16lb in weight and was so hungry she was drinking loads of milk (which I've been told isn't great for their kidneys, better to have a bit of food). Anyway she doesn't like baby rice much and prefers some pureed veg so we're on that now. Just go with your instincts and if in doubt have a chat with your hv. (some of them are ok )

Lots of the baby foods do say "for babies from 4 to 6 months" on it.
Not tried her on solids yet, I don't think she's ready, but that's just my baby, each will be different.

Colds here too, me and DH over ours, but Evie is a bogey snot monster

Well never mind solids but mine had a few slurps of peppermint tea today, courtesy of her older sister. Oops.

Dh is the snot monster in this house. I was just begining to think that we (me and ds) had escaped but ds has just sprayed snot all over the keyboard so we'll have to see.

Mmm peppermint tea. I fancy one now

snotty colds here too! Joey's the only one who hasn't got it (yet...!)

Thanks for the suggestion earlier in the week about baby door bouncers - i didn't even know they existed until somebody mentioned getting one for their baby. We bought one for Joey yesterday, and he absolutely loved it! He was happily standing and bouncing in it for best part of an hour, then promptly cried when we went to take him out! I love Mumsnet

It's lovely having little ones christened. Joey's was really nice. Seems so long ago now, back in December. Sigh...growing up so quick. NM x

Never mind the babies - what are YOU wearing to your christenings? I can't fit into any of my nice clothes...

Report
Elf1981 · 30/01/2006 14:58

I am wearing a pair of smart black trousers and a dressy purple and black kimino type top with purple heals (which I've been waiting ages to wear!). Though I have had to buy new stuff as none of my tops fit over the gigantic boobs and my smart black trousers zip has gone seeing as I stretched them over my bump when pregnant!
My fave outfits at the moment are wrap dresses. There are some very pretty ones around, they cover a multitude of sins AND they're good for hassle free breastfeeding (no need to flash belly when pulling top up, perfect!!)

hi everyone stupid broadband had software fault had to wait for new disk from bt. But anyway how are you all.

Camerons decided to not eat during the day anymore and wake at 5/6 am with rumbly tummy. Was at end of my tether the other day, he just keeps pushing bottle away, but he is happy, smiley and as chatty as usual. He is sooking hand frantically, staring at Jessica eating and waking earlier with rumbly hungry tummy and he is now over 14lbs. But will only take 4/5oz of his bottle then pushes it away and boakes when try to give him more. So phoned health visitor this morning and she told me to try some baby rice but only to give this for next 2 weeks before trying veg/fruit - he took a small amount (not even a full teaspoon) but he was taking the spoon off me and trying to shove it in his mouth (let it go at one point and he put it in his eye - lol)

I am going out of my mind wandering what he is up to - oh I cant wait until he can talk and tell me what to do!!

I just dont know if he should be getting the baby rice just now as he doesnt even want the bottle but my friend and sister told me that this is what there ds's done when they started wedaning - but surley if he was hungary he would gobble the milk up but it is just making him gag.

HEEEEEEEEEElllllllllllllPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're trying to arrange Alice's christening for mid-March. She'll be wearing the same dress her sister wore, we'll be having the ceremony in the same church, the same people will be there - how can I make it feel different from dd1's christening?

Haven't thought about what I'm going to wear, but will need something new as I'm too big for any of my old clothes. Elf, how do you breast feed discreetly in a wrap dress, don't you expose all your upper chest as you unwrap it?

Report
Elf1981 · 31/01/2006 06:46

Well, with a wrap dress, I tend to just pull the side of the dress down under my boob (dont unwrap it, the dresses are stretchy enough to pull at the fabric) and then Evie's face will cover all the exposed area. When I wear tops (I dont wear tee shirts, more vest tops) I have to pull the top up to get to my boobs so I feel as if all my stomach is exposed which I dont like. With a wrap dress, once Evie is feeding, you can only see the top of my boob which is no worse than me wearing a low cut top.

Well, thought I'd change my name as 'Big Bump' isn't really appropriate any more

Glad everyone's doing ok. Ruby is getting along fine but is turning out to be a very fussy eater. She likes something one day but then won't eat it the next. If she eats a bit during the day she only wakes up once at 3am and then again at 6.30am. If she doesn't eat she wakes for bottles every 2 hours at night. She really seems to be growing up quickly and is really alert and loves to chat! Just got her appointment card through for her third set of jabs for 8th feb so I'm not looking forward to those. I find I can really tell what she needs now. She tends to cry the most when she's tired and has a completely different cry when she's hungry. She is a real angel all day but does get quite unhappy at around 5.30pm (when I'm trying to start tea etc). so that can be quite hard sometimes.

Got a bumbo for her the other day and she really looks like an old man sitting in an armchair when she's in it. I usually put her in that in the kitchen with me when I'm cooking so I can constantly talk to her.

Anyway I'm off to get dressed (seems to be getting later every day )

JustBonnie - agree about the crying around half five, Evie does the same! Me and DH eat tea like a tag team! Luckily he tends to eat a big dinner at lunch time so just eats something small at tea (if anything) so I do it the other way, something small at lunch and larger dinner at tea. Sometimes we can settle Evie for a sleep and she'll be fine, but most of the time she's grizzly around that time. Evie had her third set of jabs the other day, so thats all done with til MMR thank God!! (Though this time they really bruised both of her legs )

Oh, does anybody elses baby pull their legs up when they're hungry, or just mine? I keep getting a laod of well meaning (I think!!) people telling me she "has wind" and "buy some gripe juice". I know if I dont feed Evie the first minutes that she seems hungry, we get the leg pulling bit but it makes me doubt myself when everybody tutts and says she has wind.

Sophia pulls her legs up too but then again she farts like a monster!! She has more wind than the rest of the family combined and our evenings are usually punctuated with 'PPPPRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRP's and then fits of giggles from everyone

She also yells in the middle of dinner, sits on my knee and stares open mouthed at whatever I'm eating, almost temped to just shove a fork-full of whatever it is in there usually lol

I got my lymphangitis back again, the anti-biotics didn't work! Doctors are crap as crap can be and are saying it's just mastitis and will go away by itself (which mears agrees with but tiktok doesn't lol!!) I have a temp again and red lines all over my boob and it hurrrrts and I'm all feverish, still! Finally got some other anti-biotics though so hopefully they'll work!
