Have gone with LMFs title suggestion :)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
msbuggywinkle · 08/02/2012 11:33

Thanks lmf I will be allowing myself to wallow for today only, in front of Dr Who on Netflix.

I think I mostly feel crap because I was up til 2 this morning worrying about Miri's weird breathing due to snottiness, of course she is fine really, but I am starting to feel like I'm wobbling on the edge of PND and I can't afford depression right now!

So, after DD1 has finished her cheese I will run to the shop for healthy but quick and easy food, then will spend this afternoon in front of the TV.

This evening I will be planting Miri's placenta as her apple tree arrived this morning and DP and I can blast round the living room to get it tidy.

Tomorrow I will go to get Miri weighed then take the DDs to the library and swings because being out is good for wobbles. If I can manage to get time for some yoga I will do that too.

aethelfleda · 08/02/2012 11:42

Good luck msb and keep posting, we're all about as lmf says. for your excellent strategy stuff to try to keep your mood OK, you're clearly got buckets of insight which is a huge advantage to you.
(((hug)))) and a big Brew

DS has been rather snotty but seems otherwise OK: have designated this a stay-in-and-keep-warm day as yesterday was so busy and felt guilty dragging him round after the DDs stuff. Still, I suppose he'll have to get used to it.

Was ruminating about the larger age gap between the DDs and DSyesterday (6,4,5 weeks), when suddenly realised it's the same age gap as my DD2 and her 8 and 10 year old cousins (who the girls love and play with really noisily nicely. Felt a lot better about them all mucking in together when they get bigger!

NorthernChinchilla · 08/02/2012 12:26

Kri5ty, it's the pregnancy book the NHS gives out...now 99.999999% of the time I'd die in a ditch for the NHS, but this book bears naff-all relation to reality (especially on the 'babies feed every three hours then doze off stuff).

I will second Kri5ty's recommendation of the Brazillian mopsy- all of DP's family have maaaaaaaaaaaaad curls, and his sister swears by them (and hides the cost from her husband, although I think they're a bit cheaper now).

I am so pleased the wobble was ignorable LMF, you really do not need one right now... and may I congratulate you and hand you a golden tribble on the best 'damn you, autocorrect', for the 'as bob knows I've had enough' on the second line. Unless Bob is a key person in your life and I've missed something Grin.
You do do an amazing job- my Mum was a single parent although only from me being about age 3, and so I know the difficulties surrounding it. However, I feel they must be multiplied a million fold with more than one child, the baby years, and an ill child.
I find the solitude hard with only having a DP, and no family (and precisely two friends) in a hundred miles, but it's not the same, and you do so well in such trying circumstances.

And yes, mustard under cheese on toast is the food of kings!

How's your LO doing now mmmm?

BJR- we did precisely that when LO was 18 days old, and we're doing it again on Friday (PITA being so far from family isn't it?). We actually found it not too terrifying- LO slept all the way, bar being woken for a feed and a change at the service station. We were on the road for six hours... I have now cursed us for Friday (especially as DS is having his first jabs that day!)

Happy birthday Darcies!

< hands haddock to HLC >
Wow, he must really not value his bits to come out with a line like that! I hope you get some nights out too (or are at least bagsying some for the future?) You must look forward to the day when your OH takes charge of LO and the house for a while and see how he copes...
Sorry to hear about the neck, that's seriously bad luck, have you taken paracetmol?

I think the only positive thing MsB is that you've recognised that you're at risk at the moment- it's that little bit more dangerous when it slides up and catches you unawares. Definitely get out, go for a walk, and keep posting here, we'll all do our best to help you ward off the gremlins.

You can tell LO is asleep by the length of this post, can't you? He did his double peeing thing this morning, but puddled it instead of fountained it. So I had a child dripping with his own pee to deal with, hurrah! Took off my nightshirt, wrapped him in it, and got us both in the shower. Good thing today was washing day...

LittleMissFlustered · 08/02/2012 13:23

Excellent strategy msb We can't let the wobbly days win:) Inwent and got my hair cut today. £17 well spent, as I always feel better when it's less of a nest:)

Northern bob wasn't a typo, just the usual phrase chez flustered:o

Right, the octopus is wriggling his tentacles so I had best go wave a boob at him. Back later:)

NorthernChinchilla · 08/02/2012 14:19

I like 'thank bob', I may snaffle that...

Am a bit stymied at the moment- would love to go out for a walk, but am awaiting a delivery from Mothercare. Their delivery slot is 'within four working days', which totally takes the piss. Even with being on maternity leave, that still buggers up any plans; if I were back at work it would be impossible.

May try putting DS in his cot for his afternoon nap, see if he likes it.

Mmmmcheese · 08/02/2012 14:46

I might have to adopt "bob" too!

DD's temp is now down to 37.6 so still high but not so worrying. Only gave one dose of calpol. She's extra sleepy today, going to leave her to it and just pray that it doesn't mess up tonight's sleep.

DS now 2 hrs into his lunchtime nap which meant I have had a bit of a rest with DD on the sofa. Hurrah! Going to a 2yo bday party this afternoon so need the energy! Our problem with only one toilet upstairs is that I am desperate but don't want to go upstairs and wake DS. Need a chamberpot!

I really needf a haircut. What with 2 months bedrest before DD was born I haven't had it done for over 6 mOnths and its waaaay too long. Not sure how I'm going to manahe that with DD though.

Can't rememebr who said it but yes DD always cries when she goes to DH. I guess when we're altogether he tends to look after DS as DD is usually either feeding or asleep on me, so she is a bit of a mummy's girl at the moment.

LMF and msb hang in there, remember our thread title!

DS just woken up. Here goes...

AWomanCalledHorse · 08/02/2012 15:13

Happy Birthday Darcies!!

My mum is utterly useless at picking partners, so found herself single after announcing she was pregnant. every. bloody. time. (although to be fair to my father, he made the effort to see me...up until my 4th birthday!!) so Bob only knows how she managed 4 children alone with v.little support.
My DH has been amazing!! He's doing all the night time stuff (once he gets in from work) and is more than happy with fish fingers & chips every night (I cook an actual meal once or twice a week).

For whoever it was who also has a teething bubba atm, Boots sell Anbesol...it's behind the counter at the pharamcy dept. & it WORKS!! DS cries because he hates the taste of it, but at least he doesn't scream non-stop.

Northen good luck with mothercare delivery!!

MrsB, take each day as it comes & fingers crossed it improves soon, xx

All this talk of haircuts has made me want one too...anyone here got shorter than shoulder length, but longer than a pixie cut? Is it easy to maintain? Thinking of cutting mine short as DS loves to tug my ponytail.

NorthernChinchilla · 08/02/2012 16:11

Blimey AWCH, that is some run of crap men your Mum achieved, poor her. Glad to see you've got a good one at least!

TBH, I find that the worst length, and I've had every length and style you can think of. It still needs 'doing' to some degree, can't be tied back and always falls in your face. If you look good with a pixie, go for that- that was my main style from five to 25, but definitely find a good haidresser you can trust that won't make you look blokey, and it's a faff and expense doing it every six weeks!

MsB, how're you feeling?

Am going to go for a walk as I've spent ages trying to assemble his bouncy chair and it WON'T!

MissRee · 08/02/2012 16:32

Am having a hair crisis myself... I have naturally wavy hair that just looks messy if I don't do something with it. I feel trampy wearing it up all the time but thats all I can manage at the moment!!! Saw a thread in AIBU about perms earlier and it's got me wondering whether a really loose perm would suit my hair and make it more manageable?!

OiMissus · 08/02/2012 17:15

Thank bob, I like it and am adopting it. Smile
Hang in there msb, glad you've hot a strategy in place, hope it works. (hugs)
northern you're right, I forgot about the 6 weekly appts for short hair.
Someone's grumbling - I'll carry on later...

LittleMissFlustered · 08/02/2012 18:11

All hail Bob!:o

OiMissus · 08/02/2012 19:25

I had decided to go short again. Washing and drying my long hair takes way too long, and it gets in the way - and it's pointless, it's been a permanent ponytail since Alistair arrived.

MissRee · 08/02/2012 19:41

I think maybe I need to make a bit more of an effort to straighten my hair so I don't feel like so much of a scummy mummy Grin

Kri5ty · 08/02/2012 19:42

missree check groupon/ living social / wahanda etc for a brazillian blow dry, i swear by them... i would even pay the full price if i had to, but there are always deals on :)

msb dont let the wobble days win! It dawned on me i was on the verge on PND, thankfully, as now i am doing everything to stop it in its tracks :)
changing my thought process is more difficult as i normally am a glass half empty girl... however today i went on a 3 mile walk, it isnt far but i made it out of the house AND i went to baby massage!! :o

northern i never got a book, but i guess im not missing much!!

hlc haddock!!! mmm you mentioned cake though... i need cake

oi did you get sparklys message about meeting up again at the tc? She said she was going to try and message u x

LittleMissFlustered · 08/02/2012 19:52

The purple book is naff!

As you were:o

Kri5ty · 08/02/2012 20:01

advice from sling / wrap wearers please :o

I have a bjorn carrier, but i have just bought a kari me sling my question is... i cant wear it under my coat, but if i was to wear it out of the house, what would i dress baby in? As im guessing a snow suit would be too warm due to body heat and also the layers from the wrap?

aethelfleda · 08/02/2012 20:28

Hi kri5ty, I have a moby wrap which is exactly the same as a kari me in fabric weight of fabric (used to have a kari-me with the Dds).

When we do the school run with the moby wrap, DS wears a vest, a sleepsuit, and a hooded jumper (slightly padded). We do the newborn carry ie tuck his feet into the x-part so they don't dangle out and get cold. I put a hat on his head if he's awake and take it off and tuck his head in if he's dopy/asleep.
If it's windy I do my coat up over the top.

When it was reeealy cold two days ago I substituted a fleecy allinone instead of the jacket and buttoned my (large) coat over the top. He's always seemed quite comfy with that, i wouldnt use a large snowsuit as no need (like you said).

Kri5ty · 08/02/2012 20:46

thanks aethel :o im worried about him being too cold!! Non of my coats would go over us both, and im too skintaroony to buy another!! Do you think he would be too cold in a vest, sleepsuit (possibly clothes), and a woolen cardigan, and obviously a hat? I think i do have a slightly padded zip up top though i could use

MissRee · 08/02/2012 20:56

Ooh if anyone wants a Moby type sling, I bought mine on eBay. It's by "joy & Joe" and I only paid £11.99 for it... soooo much cheaper than Moby!

NorthernChinchilla · 08/02/2012 21:12

I've been lucky as I bought a wool poncho/cape thing for late pregnancy and it's been perfect for taking DS out underneath in his moby. He's just been in a full length onesie, with the mitts turned over and a hat as his little bonce pokes out. He's fallen asleep each time.
I've got him in the 'older' hold though, as he's so long.

On a similar topic, just been out for a walk with the pram. OH will NOT listen to me about how much (or, as it happens, little) LO needs to be covered, despite me having used the pram in this weather and experimented to find optimum coverage.
And so in his thick cotton top and trousers, all-in-one bear suit, under a very thick home knitted blanket, in the fleecy lined cot, with the plastic weather shield over and zipped up, DS yelled all the way.

I wonder why Hmm

AWomanCalledHorse · 08/02/2012 21:21

just put ds dwn an hour after feed and winding....he threw everything up and is now smiling & coo=ing at me, gah!!

Anyone have any tis about giving gripe water? infacol hasn't helped recently...thsnks.

ps. typining 1 hNDED with wrggly baby :)

aethelfleda · 08/02/2012 21:51

Feeling really crap tonight. Usually try to be positive But am soo tired out. ds has been clingy and grumpy all afternoon /evening, really windy and unsettled. Ds was home late so had to whole bedtime routine with DS on boob/rocking, then DS came home and decided to do a "bit of extra work" on the laptop. Place looks like bomb has hit it despite me doing chuffing houseworl all day when not seeing to DS/DDs. Just so bloody tired I want to cry. Feed for Ds then bed.

aethelfleda · 08/02/2012 21:53

Kri5sty, just seen your post. Think whatt you suggested with a jumper would be fine;try it on a short walk first and see how it goes.

luckysevens · 08/02/2012 22:19

AWCH I find dentinox to be better than infacol and easier as you can just put it in the milk (think you said you were FFing?). I tried gripe water with DS and he spat it out every time.
aethel sorry to hear you've had a bad day. I find when I have to do bedtime routine when DH is on split shifts it takes me bloody ages. DS has to spend over an hour in his pj's between bath and bed while I wash and feed Eva.
msb good plan to be organised, hope you're ok.
darcies happy birthday.
LMF I agree you're an inspiration having another baby in less than ideal circumstances.

We had a successful shopping trip yesterday, last time DH was a miserable sod grumpy and Eva screamed all the way home. Has anyone looked at baby clothes in Primark? I got a gorgeous cotton summer dress and 4 pairs of leggings for £12!
Eva seems almost better now, though she's been very sleepy today and still not quite got her appetite back. I'm having her weighed tomorrow to see if she's lost weight while she's been ill.

LittleMissFlustered · 08/02/2012 23:14

aethel just ignore the bombsite and concentrate on getting to the point where you can sleep:) Everything else can wait!

I feel tender today, the octopus' latch has never been amazing, but today it's been dismal. Ow:(

Just put him down, see you in a couple if hours:/
