Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Scheherezade · 05/02/2012 09:16

Oh bb3 poor you and Edie. So glad she is better with the inhalers.

And mama I don't think there is a mother around who hasn't had to put the screaming baby down and walk out for 5 mins. It won't hurt her and you need to get some air! When C was having his trouble sleeping I'd go make a brew, the sound of the kettle meant I had 3 minutes to not hear him, and I needed it for my own sanity!

FuzzzyDuck · 05/02/2012 09:16

Oh poor little E bb3!! Crazy they had no antibiotics! They could have at least have you a prescription so you could pick up first thing this morn rather than having to go to docs first!! Hoping all the other sick/snotty babies recover soon. S hasn't been to bad so far, was a bit warm yesterday but her cheeks very flushed again so put it down to teeth. Wondering though, when does 'bringing up some milk' become more like 'vomit'? We uses gaviscon when she was younger to help but it seems to have started again. Most times after a bottle, she brings quite a bit of it back up. Yesterday it was projectile! All over couch/carpet etc Shock. Still seems happy enough though.

A very broken nights sleep here to. After saying that her sleep was back to normal, she was awake every hr from 3am crying a little. It's exhausting! Just wish she could nap for more than 30 mins at a time through the day, I would nap with her too but the eyes just ping open and that's her!!

Thanks for all the hen night suggestions!! Took us 4 hrs just to do one tshirt!! I bought the stuff to do transfers onto it ourselves rather than buying them online, but it was trial and error to begin with, but took a'ages! We are planning to sew fruity polos to the front to look like a bra, with the idea that if someone wants to sign her top, they must eat one off. Her challenge by end of night is to have as many off as possible Grin. Still waiting on a big ordee of them arriving, better be soon though as I can see that being a soul destroying task!! I can't wait!!

MamaMaiasaura · 05/02/2012 09:18

bb3 that's shocking they say they are out of antibiotics . The ward easily could be but there is the capacity to borrow from other wards. I don't know who h hospital it was but the hospital pharmacy could have been shut. It is scary how quickly the very young and old can go downhill with bugs like this. Hope she is feeling better soon as glad steroids are helping.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 05/02/2012 09:26

fuzzy Ann summers also sell a bra made of sweets she could wear that over er top? Sewing polos on does indeed sound soul destrying! I couldn't do it.

BB3 · 05/02/2012 09:32

Yes the pharmacy shut at 7, we were admitted at 7.30. She's miles better today still wheezy and tugging on her breath but seems like she is in less pain bless her! I've told Ayse not to get any ideas about getting this too! I Am Not having all three children in hospital less than 6 weeks into 2012!! Grin

Grin at fruit polos don't envy you sewing them on!

Fuzzy, I don't know much about sick / gaviscon but would guess if it's after most feeds it's more than just bringing up milk unless she is gulping too much down in one setting? Sorry not to be more help!

BB3 · 05/02/2012 09:33

Oh Edward forgot to say, go c! We are starting in half term - I'm dreading it! Just dreading it!

Jnice · 05/02/2012 10:06

Oh BB3 you must be exhausted andso stressed out - I hope youget some respite soon.

Engelsmeisje · 05/02/2012 10:18

So much news from everyone!
bb3 poor you, glad that edie is okay. Must have been scary.
Shock supergirl !

ed you sound like you deserve a good sleep this afternoon. (and well done C!)

mama do you use a dummy? Maybe she?s comfort sucking? Hang in there. I?ve done the same ? leaving M to cry because it?s just too much listening to him and arguing with DH over what feels like something silly and stupid. You?re only human ? try not to beat yourself up about it.

emmazed the most used phrase in our house is, ?you?ll have to wait, Mummy?s drinking her tea? Smile
How did dd go in the cot cheeky?

Poor Seth bilblio Sad

Get well soon jnice

Have a great time fuzzy . I had a hen picnic at Leeds Castle with my mum, sister, aunties and a few friends. We had cupcakes and children?s party food. My sister organized games: pass the parcel (in between each layer there was a stupid picture of my that I had to attach to my clothes), a ?what does this Dutch phrase mean? game (I wasn?t allowed to take part in that one!), hen party/wedding anagrams, a quiz for me about DH (his favourite film, shoe size, when we met?) and chocolate bar storytelling (I had a bag of different chocolates and had to make up a story using their names ? and I got to eat the chocolates afterwards of course). All very tame, but what I expected at 7 months pregnant!
No more snow since Friday, but it?s sticking around. Minus 12 when we came home last night. Dh went to start the car last night outside BIL to warm up, put it in neutral and didn?t put the handbrake on. He looked back to see the car starting to roll down the street ? managed to stop it just in time, though hurt his knee in the process (and his pride I reckon!) I can just imagine the earful I would have gotten if it had been my fault, so am maintaining a dignified silence while chuckling inside Grin

M slept though from 12.30 til 9 this morning. I felt like an un milked cow when I woke up Grin

FuzzzyDuck · 05/02/2012 10:46

The sweety thing from ann summers will be the option if they aren't here by Tuesday!!

Well done C on the toilet training!! Good on you for sticking at it too!! He's got the idea of it now Smile

MamaMaiasaura · 05/02/2012 10:49

bb3 sorry was very tired when I typed Esme and Ayse Blush. Good luck with potty training, tho one would be easier than 2 I guess, Wink. Glad Edie is better today.

Jnice hope you are better soon. Has his rash settled?

Super Any news Grin

Ed - yay for Christopher, clever boy. He sounds like he's really getting the hang of it.

Engel no dummy here, I think it growth spurt and had busy few days. Your hen party sounds brilliant, love the pass parcel game Grin. I forgot you got married pregnant too. My hen party was tame too, was a mix of baby shower and hen and a complete surprise. Amazing cake tho, I'll fb it later.

bilbilo poor Seth, hope his bottom heal up soon Sad

Fuzzy I'm crap at seeing and would end up eating all the sweets instead Grin

Scheh thanks. I just feel such a cow for shouting like a fishwife. Dh too J for an hour while I had long bath and am now laying in bed as she's feeding. Going to nap myself if i get off mn

MrsHende · 05/02/2012 14:16

Argh! Mothers-in-law!

bilblio · 05/02/2012 14:39

Em hope your hand is better. I've solved the cold tea problem. The settee is right next to the radiator, and the radiator has a flat top, so I sit my cup on it and drinks stay a reasonable temperature for ages :o

bb3 poor Edie, glad to hear the inhalers are kicking in.

mama we've all done the shouting at some point. I usually feel guilty for days.

Seth seems to be having a hungry day today. He's shattered too but DD keeps waking him. DH has just dragged her out to the shops so we can have some peace. She wanted to go on the sledge but DH didn't want to drag her that far (although personally I suspect it would be easier than getting her to walk in this snow.) He's said he'll drag her round the street when they get back, but she's being such a miserable grotbag at the moment that it wouldn't surprise me if he runs out of patience and changes his mind.

TallyBear · 05/02/2012 14:52

Emaz I dug out my thermos mug; keeps tea hot for over an hour and the lid minimises spills...
Also, was it you talking the other week about J struggling to finish his bottle? Seb has become so difficult to feed recently. I think you were going to speak to the hv, any advice? He can take over an hour to finish his 6oz where before it took him about 20 mins. He just keeps pulling away and crying. He's also being sick a lot more (usually over dh!). In between feeds he's his usually smiling self - although seems to be a bit more sleepy days recently. I thought it might be a result of his injections on tues and he had a bit of a cold but surely it would be ok by now? I've got a dr app tomorrow re:contraception but i might be cheeky and ask about him too. If not i've got hv app on Weds. Don't really want to wait that long but won't be able to get anything earlier at our surgery.

BB3 poor Edie, hope she's on the mend and that's the end of the lurgy in your house.

Fuzzzy Seb's also gone from sleeping through to having a feed in the night Sad

Oh no mrsH whats wrong?

BB3 · 05/02/2012 14:54

Oh dear mrsh all ok?

Bilblio, I'd choose sledge over walking everytime - ds is also being a grump think it's cabin fever from being stuck inside with sickness and poor weather!

pinkpainter · 05/02/2012 16:59

I've been really trying to keep up with this thread....but not managing it, I'm so sorry! Every so often I get to read several days worth but never enough to catch up properly :(
Also I feel bad, as now I could really do with some support from you mums with babies the same age please.
Been having massive problems breastfeeding....
I have had a blocked milk duct on my LHS twice during the last 10 days, I managed to sort this out without antibiotics, but I think there is a problem with the positioning on that side. I had a blister on that side too last week, that's gone too now but it's incredibly painful feeding, so I think there's still something wrong. The BF supporter that I saw this week seemed to think she has got lazy and isn't opening her mouth enough, but I end up trying to reposition her over and over again and it still hurts. The feeds are so long, at least an hour each and there was a suggeston that she gets tired out trying to get the milk and just falls asleep. My baby's weight gain is very slow - just 3lbs in 14 weeks, and I think if I could sort the positioning out that would be better too. I saw an amazing BF expert yesterday, but it is still incredibly painful to feed.
I'm just so close to giving up - although even the thought of this is so upsetting, this is my last baby and I wanted to feed her for a year like my first. It was all going so well up until the last couple of weeks - anyone else experiencing problems like this too? (So sorry for the epic post)

MamaMaiasaura · 05/02/2012 17:59

Pink - poor you. Tiktok is brilliant for advice on here, I'd suggest a thread in breastfeeding with her name in title. I've not had same problems as you except painful latch and dedicate side preference. I tend to do most feeds laying down if I can as my breasts are very large and is must comfortable. Re the latch afaik it's nose to nipple and to release, slip little finger in to release suction. I got very sore from lasinoh as looks like allergic to lanolin. I really hope you get some good advice and that this passes. How old is baby now? We are at distractable stage here 15 weeks. Don't worry about not keeping up, it moves so fast.

PenguinArmy · 05/02/2012 18:27

pink :( latch issues do need that personal input so I'd keep accessing RL support until it sorts itself (as well as a thread for emotional support and other ideas). It is hard as they start looking around at this age and you naturally get complacent. I have issues with DS trying to suck his thumb whilst feeding plus a few long feeds have made me sore again. Do you feel like even though it's still hurting it's getting better. Even with a better latch it might take a while to heal. Babies are also more stubborn at this age to change habbits, which is where different holds can come in handy. For slow weight gain, switch feeding can be good for boosting supply. I've said it before but DD was a 1-3oz a week gainer so understand slow weight gain concerns.

Scheherezade · 05/02/2012 19:30

Pink- whilst I was establishing bf I used to pump using a really good pump (Philips avent is much better than medela as it doesn't have settings, you pump manually, press a button and it continues the same speed and strength electronically). I fed expressed milk from a bottle to let my nipples heal, and fed a few times a day, which stopped every feed becoming a battle. You can also increase supply this way, I'd aim for 6oz every time I pumped.

Try to see a bf advisor for tips on getting a good wide open mouth, things like tickle the top lip with the nipple, wait till she's really hungry, in fact often I found him screaming got a good latch as his mouth was so wide! And as my bf advisor said, moustache but no beard, you want to be able to see nipple from the top lip, but the bottom be covered.

A good thing I also found was slightly tilting the nipple towards his nose, digging the chin in low and 'rocking' his head on, don't just place them on. Keep the chin touching the breast tissue.

Sorry its hard to put across in writing, hope this helps a little. I know how awful it is when it doesn't work, but after all the pain ans torture we're feeding 100% so it can work out!

Are you rubbing milk in after each feed, and using lansinoh? The nipple should look normal when it comes out too, not elongated, pointy or with a little line across.

MamaMaiasaura · 05/02/2012 19:34

scheh good post x

Scheherezade · 05/02/2012 19:35

Btw, don't worry about keeping up, just pop in and out as you want!

cheekydino · 05/02/2012 19:35

So much news!
Bb3 - hope edie is feeling better - that must have been scary. My ds is also going stir crazy from being housebound due to his lurgy. Me too if I'm honest Grin
Ed - glad potty training is going well, must be a relief to be getting it out of the way.
Pink - not all of us manage to keep up very well, I certainly don't! Sorry to hear about bf problems - sounds like seeing the bf counsellor again is your best bet.
Mama - feeding frenzies are annoying, I sympathise.

Well, our first night in the cot didn't go well. She was quite a bit noisier than usual for the first part of the night, which we ignored. But then she woke at 2.45 with horrible wind and didn't settle except in my arms until 6, when I eventually fed her in frustration even though she blatantly wasn't hungry. Grr. Think it is because the cot wasn't propped up enough compared to the basket, so I've shoved another couple of books under it and fingers crossed for tonight!

Sorry to anyone I've missed - on phone and can't scroll.

Scheherezade · 05/02/2012 19:39

Meant to say I breastfed a few times a day, so you can decide when you want to work on it.

The chin should be really tucked in, so it looks like they've got breast tissue in there. Don't use a dummy because of the sucking action, sucking on the nipple is no good!

MrsHende · 05/02/2012 19:57

Everything is fine! She smiled through gritted teeth

My MIL means well but if she tells me one more time that Lizzie is hungry when she's just fed for 45 mins I'll scream!!! '"She was pulled off prematurely!" - she was not!!!!

Anyway! It's a small issue in the grand scheme of things Grin!

Pink, I really feel for you, my blisters are just healing. My best advice is to pile on the lasinoh. It brings tears to the eyes though, just last week I was having a wee weep every time she latched on. It has healed though so try to keep the faith! Scheh's advice sounds great too.

Hope you've all had a good weekend. Smile

PenguinArmy · 05/02/2012 21:32

BB3 Hope E is getting better and good luck for tomorrow

Me and DH got round to DTD last night, but my immediately thought afterwards was 'I hope this mini-pill does the job'

TallyBear · 05/02/2012 22:09

Has anyone used the baby pillows to prevent flat heads? I've noticed Seb is getting a bit flat on his right side.

MrsH Sad, hang in there....
