Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sevenswansaswimming · 15/01/2012 19:11

tyel hope youre on the mend soon.

DH is having a vasectomy, we're done at 2. As much as I like the idea of another we wouldn't really be able to afford for me to stay home and HE, and with the muscular dystrophy risk it isn't worth it. I'm very thankful for the 2 beautiful children I've got.

Now giving Eva her last feed before I put them both to bed. DH is at work so I'll spend the night knitting. DS read his first word (bus) earlier, I'm a very proud mummy today!

NorthernChinchilla · 15/01/2012 19:43

Oh heavens tyel that is ridiculously bad news- season ticket at the hospital ahoy...Confused. Will check out other thread too. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

mmmm I was bummed to find my preferred pill, microgynon, can't be taken whilst bf, so I'm going to go for the mini pill. I've gone on every type of contraception, and the implant and injection are both great. For me there were some very positive side effects- no periods!- and some not so great- gained about a stone, reduced libido. Also, if you're on the injection for a while, it takes several months if you wanted to ttc, but that doesn't sound like it'd be an issue.

However, the news from LMF is interesting to say the least!!

People do come out with unhelpful comments YBR, and the fact that it's through ignorance rather than malice does nothing to help. And if you were to answer, 'yes, but I'd've preferred not to be f*cking traumatised, wouldn't you?' they'd be taken aback...

I hope the healing continues, and that baby YBR eats in a slightly more dignified manner this evening Smile.

And congrats to your DS seven!

aethelfleda · 15/01/2012 20:33

Just in the defence of Cerazette, northern (!!) every contraceptive has a fail rate: sounds like you were the one-in-a-thousand, lmf. with these things it's a case of the most suitable option and minimising risks. Bearing in mind there is a slight drop in fertility when you BF anyway, so maybe 6-12 months of cerazette and then back to microgynon when you stop bfing?
Actually, you can BF safely with microgynon, but in some ladies it signifcantly reduces milk volumes so its not recommended for any solely breastfeeding mums for that reason.

LittleMissFlustered · 15/01/2012 20:38

YBR I'm sorry, I completely missed your original post (I think it was a crss-post while I was typing my essay), it sounds as though you've been through the mill as well - I hope that the people who truly matter are knuckling down and being as supportive as possible:)

aethel I never do things by halves:o

Can somebody please see if my profile and pics are working? I have finally located the laptop and have put a couple of snaps of octopus boy up:)

HoneyLovesChristmasCake · 15/01/2012 20:52

Oooh, glad I'm not the only one who'll be TTC on here...I'm hoping to join this years Nov or Dec baby bus; although I realise that's pretty unlikely when I'm bfing on demand. Still it'll be fun trying!

Tyel so sorry to hear your news...so unfair! :(

Think I might go to bed...DP is out at a snooker match & I'm shattered. I love bfing but it can be so draining!

Can't access your profile LMF, did you make it public?

sevenswansaswimming · 15/01/2012 20:58

LMF I can't get onto your profile.

Both children asleep upstairs and I've accidentally spent the last hour cleaning the bathroom.

LittleMissFlustered · 15/01/2012 21:06

IT says profile and pictures are public, but though the tags are there I can't actually see the pictures myself >_<

Stupid technology!

Figgygal · 15/01/2012 21:37

Cripes ladies ttc already you are brave, personally I think I'm done at 1, I love him completely but don't feel need for another. The idea of recommencing bedroom activities and an accidental pg scares me really need to think about contraception.

aethelfleda · 15/01/2012 22:48

lmf, I can't see your profile either- sorry!

Just out of interest, is there a reason why you TTC grlies are so keen for a small age gap? It's incredibly full-on iif you have two within 21 months or less, I'm curious!! (there are 23 months between my DDs and that was quite close enough for me!)

mopsytop · 16/01/2012 00:12

I am so overwhelmed with this one, I can't imagine feeling brave enough to try for another! There are 2 years between all my siblings though and it is a great age gap so maybe in a year or so I'll feel brave enough to reconsider.

mopsytop · 16/01/2012 00:22

Sorry to hear about traumatising birth YBR. I, too, think the 'but it's worth it' comments truly annoying. Yes, I am glad I have a lovely, healthy baby NATURALLY but that doesn't mean I've to be glad I got a bloody painful great cut down below. Yours sounds particularly dreadful, I hope it is healing now.

Tyel how awful for you! You poor thing. I hope it heals fast & you feel a lot better soon and can continue bf. What a horrible thing to happen.

Minimopsy is doing her annoying feed a tiny bit, fall asleep, wake up after ten minutes and cry routine. So tedious , it means feeding takes forever. She's been doing it all day. At least I managed to sleep from 9 to midnight but whole night shift ahead of me now & am exhausted. :( the joys of newborns, eh?!

aethelfleda · 16/01/2012 03:10

Morning mopsy, I hppe you're now asleep and not reding this!

Am a bit nervous tonight as DS has been a bit sicky; DD2 has had a temp for the last few days. DS isn't hot/ but is possetting more than usual. Prob mothing but I hope he's not brewing his first virus (second/3rd kids always get more!)

Weigh in tomorrow and I'm hoping his weight gain will be good cos if not they will mag me about getting his tongue tie treated (which we can do if he needs but I'm hoping we'll get away with cos its not that bad).

hawthers · 16/01/2012 03:27

aethelfleda we can be weigh in buddies! Also nervous about weight gain following last week's hospital blip. Really hoping its ok as i'm not sure I can face expressing or mentally cope with mixed feeding due to ds1 isshoos (though obv I will if its best for ds2).

hawthers · 16/01/2012 04:51

Ds2 going for a feeding frenzy tonight. only had 2 hours of shit sleep so far. H (formerly known as Dh) is doing my head in. If that weigh in is not positive tom, I'm going to weep.

mopsytop · 16/01/2012 05:09

I wad sort of asleep aethel. minimopsy was being grizzly after her last feed (which took well over two hours due to her stop/sleep/cry/start again shenanigans) and so I only half slept. I left her to it as I knew she was fed/warm/changed but it interrupted my sleep. When she tamped it up after a cpl of hours I put her on the breast where she is now. So I think we'll be having a sleep thism morning if she'll let me! Can't wait until Friday when can do the 8 til midnight shift and let husband do the night shift and get a proper sleep. Only 4 more nights after tonight!

msbuggywinkle · 16/01/2012 08:27

Morning!

Miri has been having a growth spurt so has been permanently attached for two days! Tis good for the weigh in today though, I'm joining in being nervous about weighing, just because the big DDs were both slow gainers.

aethel hope he doesn't get sick! Kwym about 2/3rd getting sick more, DD2 had her first cold by three days old.

tyel I hope you heal and get back home quickly, looks like you have had great advice on your other thread.

YBR traumatic births definitley do matter, talking about it is the way to go...I bottled up my feelings about DD1's birth and it caused more problems for me.

Off to dive into laundry mountain! No idea how we generate so much bloody washing when DD2 is a nudist child!

AnAirOfHope · 16/01/2012 09:26

Morning

DH back to work today.

I feel tired and irratable today. Off to get a coffee and try to get my head around what to do today.

Hope everyone has a good day

LittleMissFlustered · 16/01/2012 10:12

Morning all. I'm breaking out the pompoms for all of you having weigh ins today. I should have been joining you but the midwife came when the note in the communal diary said I would be out. Figures. She wants to come tomorrow now, when I have plans. Gah!

About to make myself a bowl of cereal as if I neck it now it's still technically breakfast, right? >_

sevenswansaswimming · 16/01/2012 10:24

lmf that sounds about right.

air good luck but you'll be fine. If all else fails stick Air in front of CBeebies.

msb my laundry basket is constantly overflowing.

No plans for today, other than keeping the fire lit as I cant get warm.

aethelfleda · 16/01/2012 10:33

lmf, cereal/porridge/toast are definitely all 24 hour foods. I've become quite addicted to those 2 minute microwave porridge sachets: they are more pricey than standard porridge but the pre-measuring is that little bit easier and so much more feasible to do when juggling the DDs and DS!

On the positive side, DS seems to have stopped possetting and so I think we've escaped DD2's bug for now... But just got back from the Midwife and his weight is static so still 6oz below birthweight at day 13 :(
He was a week overdue so this may be something called "catch-down" where the baby comes out heavy but is "meant" to be on a lower centile so trends towards that... But it's too early to tell so I have to grt him reweighed Friday, and the HV is coming Thurs but won't reweigh him at the same time for some reason. He's feeding really well, I'm getting two 3 hourly breaks overnight (so he's not going too long between feeds) and i can see he's gulping lots of milk plus he's cluster feeding morning and evening.... So need to see some weight gain to make the Mws happy (and reassure me:though I know he's well there's the inevitable mummy-guilt when they don't gain).

Plan for today: try to register baby with GP, and then retreat to sofa to stuff DS full of milk when he even waves his face vaguely in the firection of my nipples. Hope everyone elses weigh-ins are more fruitful!

hawthers · 16/01/2012 10:35

Git ds2 in my new ergo carrier so I can get lunch on and the washing down hmm hope this works we're having a little consumer resistance.:.

msbuggywinkle · 16/01/2012 10:56

Back from under the laundry...one clothes wash and one nappy wash later the basket is now full rather than overflowing!

HV just left, is fine with me going to the clinic I like and Miri continues to be fab, having put on a pound in just under 3 weeks. Of course, that has dipped her to just under the 50th centile rather than just over, but we are not worried, she is still doing lots better than either of the other two managed! One decent thing about this HV is that she does look at the whole baby, and as Miri was chatting and smiling at her she is fine.

aethel I know how you feel, hope it is just catch down or a blip.

NorthernChinchilla · 16/01/2012 11:07

Sod, just lost my post when checking profile. Does anyone know why I can see the photos, they're public, etc, etc, but when you hover over my name it doesn't take you to them? Do I need to set up a profile page, as I haven't done this (just for general privacy reasons)? Do I need to contact MNHQ?

Anyhow...

You're right aethel: I think it's around 1-2 in a hundred for the pill, depending on how the individual takes it. I'm fine with the risks with contraception...it's just 'meeting' someone who's just had a baby whilst taking the pill I was planning to has rather brought the risk home, as it were!! I'm sure your LO is doing fine and will podge up, it's just hard when there appears to be a set growth chart that ALL BABIES MUST STICK TO BY WORD OF GOD.

Same for all others with weigh-ins/ HV fun today and tomorrow, good luck! Hope H earns his 'D' back soon hawthers, but haddock on standby if not...

mopsytop · 16/01/2012 11:17

My baby is only between 9 and 25 centile at last weigh in. I wasn't worried at all - just thought she was quite small at birth and is a bit small. Should I be worried?

AWomanCalledHorse · 16/01/2012 11:31

Tyel, hope you get well & get home asap!

LO is onto hungry baby milk (can't remember if I mentioned it?), he's still waking every hour for a feed, but is only taking 10-30ml instead of 150ml each time. Makes me feel ever better about giving up bf as there is no way in hell I could've coped feeding that often!

Has anyone else not been out with their LO alone yet? He's 4 wks on Wednesday & i think we'll try getting out then, DH has been great, taking him for a walk everyday.

aethel, we're trying for a small age gap as I want to get all my pregnancies/staying at home raising children full time out the way asap. I don't want to start work again in 4yrs only to have to give it up again for another 4!
