Hang in there Hawthers.

I'm having a bit of a bad day too (v teary). LO is so sleepy today and feeding less than normal. I'm also paranoid about weight gain from our start so trying to stop myself waking him every 4 hours on the dot! It's so hard to know what to do! I have so much respect for those of you with more than one DC! Can't ever see me coping with that at all at the moment!!

DarcieandSkysmum · 14/01/2012 18:50

Marking place - need to add stats sorry not done it yet been a busy few days.

DP goes back to work Monday so will have a proper catchup and try and post an epic reply Grin

NorthernChinchilla · 14/01/2012 21:19

figgy, the choccie-biccie-fuelled night feeds are practically mandatory Grin. I have never eaten so much chocolate in my life... Mind you, it died off after the first couple of weeks. Bet the millionaires' shortbread was lush mopsy- my Nan always used to make it and I always think of her when I see it.

AWCH I don't know how you cope, you poor thing. It must be so stressful and upsetting, and the fact that you're still standing and managing to post here is immense. Even the good ol' 'this too shall pass' won't be of much use. Really hope it doesn't last for too many days. Delighted you've had a better time than of late seven.

YBR, you do need a haddock on standby, but only for those people who give you the '...but it's worth it in the end' line. It totally diminishes/ignores what you went through, and does nothing apart from making you feel - COMPLETELY unecessarily- guilty for 'complaining'. You can have a lovely baby and had a horrible birth experience, one does not cancel out the other. Aethel's advice is spot-on.

It sounds like you've had a pretty terrifying experience lmf, and after that things can only improve.

We've had a trip out to Bluewater to get OH a baby carrier, and a few other odds and sods, very successfully. I wore my old jeans, hurrah!

mopsytop · 14/01/2012 21:39

Reading back over your bf experience/advice, mimimopsy is never satisfied after only bf, be it a half hour or hours and hours. She won't settle after and will cry and cry until she gets a bottle and then she'll zonk out after that. She falls asleep AT the breast but not after!!!

hawthers · 14/01/2012 22:38

Just been reading back over some advice and would just like to apologise for whinging quite so much on here. Seem to have already broken my ny resolution to be more positive.

Right another new leaf turned over.

R midnight feast I ave just spied a yard of jaffa cakes on top of Dh'a wardrobe and now just need to figure out how to reach them....

mopsytop · 14/01/2012 22:55

A yard of Jaffa cakes? What's that, like a super long packet? Yum! I want one. You don't strike me as being particularly whingey-this thread is for venting/asking advice/ranting and you respond to other peoples worries/stories/good days/bad days as well so don't be apologising! If we are on turning over new leaves though, I've been feeling guilty 'cos my posts are so me me me and self obsessed! Unwed to watch myself!

In poo news (!), minimopsy is feeding right now (one handed post) and her tummy is making the most ominous noises plus she keeps screwing up her little face and stopping sucking to grunt. A fragrant odour is suffusing the room. NOT looking forward to turnsole change-eek! Waiting until all face contortions/grunting is stopped, don't want an explosion mid change!!!!

mopsytop · 14/01/2012 22:56

'I need', not 'unwed'. Auto correct is so irritating!

mopsytop · 14/01/2012 22:58

And how did it get 'turnsole' out of 'next nappy'? The mind boggles!

mopsytop · 14/01/2012 23:01

Oooh do you know what I'd really love right now? A custard cream. Yum! But I can't buy them. I've no self restraint! I'd just eat ten in a row.

MissRee · 14/01/2012 23:08

Aww man, I could eat some Jaffa cakes right now too Grin

hawthers I don't think you've been whingy. We're all here to offer advice and support from experience and to do that we need to know what's on your mind Grin

Right now, I'm wondering how it's possible for my botty and ladygarden to hurt so much Blush I think this bit is worse than labour!!!! Grin

mopsytop · 14/01/2012 23:18

It's painful alright MissRee! but it improves quite fast. After a week it felt much better and after two much much better! Now 4 weeks later can barely notice it. Hope yours feels better soon.

aethelfleda · 14/01/2012 23:19

Plain chocolate digestives over here please!

Am so looking forward to my bed and hope I get a lump of sleep tonight: just tanking up DS and we'll see.

misree I have every sympathy for your sore bits. If younare constipated with it you can get lactulose from the chemist for a fiver a bottle (or ask your GP to prescribe it). 15ml twice a day with plenty of water will move things along in a few days.

AnAirOfHope · 15/01/2012 00:44

Air and i made rice krispy cakes tonight so i'm munching on them and feeding Hope Grin We even put mini eggs on top as we are practising for Easter Wink

I had a letter reminding me of the first jab today - i thought they had them at 3 and 4 months but is it 2 and 4 months Confused

Hope is 7 weeks today and its already going too fast. I want to enjoy every minute of her baby time as it just goes by so fast. She has been awake alot today and sat in the bouncy chair watching us play and Air has been so nice to her - its great.

I think both of them are a lot better now, so back to normal soon i hope.

Only 2 bad momments today:

  1. I was on sofa, Hope in mosses basket and Air in livingroom. Air was on sofa with me and i must have fell asleep as the next momment he is shouting me from across the room butt naked and pointing to where he had wee on the floor. He had taken off his top and his pull up pants and i didn't notice. The potty was in the room but he chose not to us it Sad - so i'm starting potty training again next week. I also feel bad for falling asleep even thou the room is fully baby proofed and son is safe and DH was upstairs putting clothes away Sad

  2. At lunch time i give Aaron a bottle of cloudy lemon drink in a bottle but put it in a cup as he still needs to practice in drinking from a normal cup. He did really well and didn't spil any down himself. I then was seeing to hjope in the same room so put cap back on bottle of juice and Aaron took the lid of him slef and poured the whole contence into his cup and it over filled and went everywhere. I did not know he could unscrew bottle caps until today, so thats something new he learned today Sad

My little baby is growing into a big boy - he starts pre-school in September Sad

Mmmmcheese · 15/01/2012 03:53

Bleurgh. I've been awake since 12.30 and feeling fed up. DD very unsettled, been feeding on and off, asleep now but grunting and squirming really loudly so I can't sleep. Wonder if she's affected by the antibiotics I'm taking. Thought we were getting somewhere with the whole sleeping thing! Grrrrrrr

aethelfleda · 15/01/2012 04:44

Hiya mmmm, I'm feeding DS who just gave me a shock by nit screaning the place down during a naopy change ( usually he wakes DH with his wails if he needs a bum change!) hopefully its just the antibiotic residues and mini-mmmm will settle once they are all finished.

Sound like you're doing really well, airofhope, 2 year old curiosity always doescstuff like that!!

Nnng, cone on baby, feed so i can get back to sleep!!!

mopsytop · 15/01/2012 05:10

Me too aethel! she just lay quietly while I changed her. Normally she screams her little head off! Maybe it is because I've the heater on and put the changing mat near it. I'm so tired but husband has been sleeping really badly so I am reluctant to wake him. Will have a late lie on instead while he minds her. Consoling myself with thought that I have to express anyway so wd have to get up in any case.

mopsytop · 15/01/2012 05:16

mmm, minimopsy does that grunty squirming thing too. Is it wind do you think? Or is it them learning how to settle? I can't sleep throuGh it either. Never sure whether to leave her to it or pick her up. Ii tend to leave her but sometimes then it turns into full on crying. Sometimes though she settles herself. What do you do? Wish I could read her cues better but I guess that just takes time!

LittleMissFlustered · 15/01/2012 06:30

Octopus boy is laid on my knee being squirmy. I have had no sleep as yet. He thinks nights are for cluster feeding >_

LittleMissFlustered · 15/01/2012 07:37

I think he might sleep now. That or my nipples are going to fall off >_

msbuggywinkle · 15/01/2012 08:37

Morning! Pretty rubbish night here...nothing to do with Miri though, me having nightmares about the Health Visitor again and couldn't get back to sleep. DP has said he is going to work from home on Monday morning to give me support so I don't stress too much about it.

Right...on to breakfast which will be a virtuous fruit smoothie.

aethelfleda · 15/01/2012 09:09

Sorry to hear you're stressed about the HV, mrsB, good that your DP is being supportive. Do they just give you grief because you homeschool? Seems a bit unnecessary...

AnAirOfHope · 15/01/2012 09:27

Wow Hope slept from 12 midnight (i went to bed at 1am) wake up at 5am for a 20 min feed then slept til 8am - go Hope Smile

Have a good day everyone

msbuggywinkle · 15/01/2012 09:51

Yep, lots of grief because we Home ed and this particular HV has a bee in her bonnet about bed sharing. It matters not that I do all of my Home ed legal stuff with the LEA apparently. This is the last home visit I'll tolerate I think, I'll just go to the clinic I know this HV doesn't work at instead!

aethelfleda · 15/01/2012 10:07

Sometimes HVs can be judgemental (with a silent "judge")... Excellent idea to find a clinic where you like one better and wave bye-bye to the other one. Then you're in control and the barmy one has no grounds for objection.

Hope everyone has a good Sunday: my plans are to tidy up a bit, and hopefully get visited by my lovely SIL who's not yet seen Albert.

OiMissus · 15/01/2012 10:26

Morning all, I have a very grunty Alistair here. :( I think he must have a bit of a cold as his breathing is grunty in his sleep, but during the day he's fine.)
It was SILs surprise 40th birthday party last night. At first we decided we wouldn't go - because of possible cold. Then we agreed to go, but just for an hour or so, and we would stick to the strict rule of NOT passing the baby about - no one would be allowed to hold him, then he wouldn't be exposed to more germs, - especially as EVERYONE in DH's family smokes (apart from DH).
oh dear.
well, I took him out of the car seat to go and stand for the Surprise bit, and Grandma tried to take him from me (he slept the whole time). I said, No, sorry, we're not passing him around, he's got a cold. She said, OK come on, and tried to take him from me again, I repeated, no, we're not letting anyone hold him - and you're full of smoke (she stank). so she said, oh ok, that's ok.
I don't think she was very happy. I can't blame her. It's her grandson...
But then DH made it worse when SIL came and said, I want a cuddle before you leave, and DH agreed. What's worse is I had to pass Alistair to her - in front of Grandma.
I feel awful now. I've asked DH to call his mum and explain.
(But I really hate it that they all smoke!)
Question: how do you know when to move to boob 2? I have the stage where it's squirting out and DC is lapping it up and drowning in it, then it all calms down and he gets a bit sleepy and relaxed about it. After 20 mins, I might unlatch him,... if I then squeeze my nipple, a small drip will appear. I assume that he is more efficient at it than me, and so still have milk. But I know other people work to 10 minutes each side... I worry that he feeds and then stays on the same breast just nursing without getting the nutrients he needs. I've started swapping more... (daft really, he's growing at a rate of feet per second! Yesterday a few people thought he was more like 3 months old rather than 5 weeks.)
