aethel hope you got some more sleep, you sounded tired!

mopsy hurray!

air joining in with for potty training and sympathy for being tag teamed, I know the feeling...we had a couple of hours where my three took it in turns to be shouting at me yesterday. I drowned my sorrows in chocolate Grin eaten in the kitchen!

I seem to have lots of energy today, I've done the washing (the eternal, never ending washing!) and put a 'what's left in the veg box soup' on for dinner. We're off out to soft play with a Home ed friend this afternoon...I bloody hate soft play, however the DDs love it and it will tire them out!

sevenswansaswimming · 27/01/2012 10:13

Hooray for minimopsy!

Eva went from 11pm to 6am without needing a feed, though she was asleep on DH from 2.30. Any ideas on how I can make her more settled in her bed rather than just waking up wanting cuddles?

aethelfleda · 27/01/2012 10:14

Thanks msb, am Ok now DDs at school and I have a few hours with just me and DS! I eventually got some sleep, just broken up: my actual sleep was 10pm-midnight, then 1.15-3.45, then 5am-7.20. So not long enough at any stretch, but a fair total. It's a four hour block that really seems to make the difference between OK and half-zombie. I am def noticing the night feeds take twice as long to do with DS as with the DDs, think the tongue tie thingy slows him down most at nightwhen he's tired.

Trying to remember (and can't!) when I moved DD2 into cloth bums at night: DS still poos in mid night so it's a bit early (I use a disposable middle of night to ease changing in the semidark): I have bombproof motherease onesize-plus-airflow-wrap-plus-boosters ready, but he's still too small for them to not look insanely comedy in the daytime so am using size one totsbots/little lambs with motherease/LL wraps and the occasional pocket/all in one for cute factor/trial purposes. Msb, you cloth nappy, don't you: when did you go night nappying? Don't really want to get into sized night nappies at this stage as have a big stash already. Was vaguely tempted by cute bambooty night nappies but then the one i'd bought for a daytime trial failed the explosive poo test spectatularly!!!!

KateM77 · 27/01/2012 10:19

Mopsy that's amazing! So jealous of all that sleep

Air well done on the potty training, good to see the scores evening up. Fingers crossed ir swings in favour of the potty today

DD is settling in at nursery this morning so I'm sitting cuddled up with the boy and watching tennis. Lovely :)

hawthers · 27/01/2012 11:11

Pom poms to minimopsy, seven's Eva and air all doing mightily well.

Ds1's clothes war continues - won't get dressed in the morning and won't get undressed in the evening. Totally painful.

Ds2 seems to be doing ok and I wouldn't be worried if it wasnt for that sodding weigh in. But now i'm worried that he's not feeding enough/feeding too much/not sleeping enough/sleeping too much/awake to long/not awake enough. Sorry for self pitying me me me posts and banging on about this AGAIN (you've got to feel sorry for Mr h, he gets this 24/7 with tears). Lactation consultant coming tom to check all is ok and ds1 in nursery Mon tues and wed so at least i should have time to concentrate on feeding ds2. Unfortunately ds1 seems to have developed a recent aversion to nursery having previously loved it.... Another challenging week ahead.

NorthernChinchilla · 27/01/2012 11:12

Good morning ladies!

Glad it's closer to a score draw air.

Sounds like lots of our LOs are doing the growth spurt/fussiness thing- the yells like they've never seen food and/or what can only be described as the head-first dive to boob is quite something.

Don't know when or how many feeds we did last night- we're off to buy a clock for LO's room today!- but with sitting LO upright for a bit, DP giving a snack of 40 ml ff in a bottle so I can get ready for bed, and putting dummy in (and keeping it in for about 45 mins) before lying him down, we avoided the evening/night yells and upset, hurrah!

Am still massively envious of mopsy though Smile

Folks, two questions- how much, if at all, are your LOs smiling? And how often are you bathing them , as I have to admit we've not done that many.... [slatternly mother emoticon]

mopsytop · 27/01/2012 11:28

Hi all! Well done on potty training air! sounds like hard work! Hope everyone is feeling ok today!

Went to GP as v sore nipples and thought it might be thrush but it isn't, think it is just friction caused by electric pump. Going to stop pumping after the weekend anyway.

mopsytop · 27/01/2012 11:31

Northern mine is five and a half weeks and not really smiling yet although think maybe she might be trying to. Might be wind on the other hand. Bathing her twice a week probably but am v bad at topping and tailing, and don't do it every day, although I clean her several times a day when nappy changing so not too worried about that end.

mopsytop · 27/01/2012 11:33

Also although feel massively lucky to have got so much sleep last night, only got half an hour between midnight and eight the night before so it is swings and roundabouts!!!

OiMissus · 27/01/2012 11:33

northern my LO is 7wks old tomorrow, he smiles lots - if I smile lots and say yes in parentese (looks even smilier), I get a lovely big smile back.
Bathing... Ahem... Am a complete slattern. I have good intentions, but never get the time... He WILL have a bath tonight. He probably has a bath a week, maybe a bit more if he's lucky...
aethel sorry, you answered this before, but what liners are you using with your cloth nappies?
I'm going visiting a hotel later today with a niece who hopes to book it for her wedding. I hope this torrential rain beggars off before then!

HoneyLovesChristmasCake · 27/01/2012 11:39

Morning all!

Northern Rocco is smiling lots especially in the morning (after a good sleep) & I can usually get a smile out of him if I want. There are certain things he seems to find very funny; mummy pretending to eat his feet seems to go down very well :) DP has different methods but can also get him to smile.

I top & tail daily but only bath him once or twice a week at the moment. I don't see much point in bathing him more often; he smells absolutely scrummy to me & I don't want him to get dry skin.

DarcieandSkysmum · 27/01/2012 11:57

Sky gave me a great big smile this morning :)

DP has ordered me a moby wrap off amazon so should be here in the week.

mopsytop · 27/01/2012 12:00

On the subject of moby wraps, what is the best 'hold'? Finding it v hard to get to grips with. The one where her legs are dangling looks all wrong as it pushes her legs out far too wide, she's practically doing the splits. Maybe it ismeant for bigger babies?

DarcieandSkysmum · 27/01/2012 12:04

Well Done to Mini Mopsy for sleeping well.

Can I rub a little bit of Vicks vapour rub onto Skys chest, shes really chesty and struggling to breath sometimes, bunged up nose too.

Mopsy Maybe don't have her legs dangling

Figgygal · 27/01/2012 12:53

Danny is 5 weeks yesterday and am waiting for the first smile desperately!! He does them in his sleep but impatient me wants a real one. He is very alert though he watches the mobile spin ruond in his cot when we put him in there for nappy free time (mattress still has the plastic on it so put him on an old towel in case of accidents) and on his change mat the light behind my head projects shadows on the wall and he is fascinated by them, i dance around and make shapes for him to watch. Not interested in toys or anything else yet though.

Well after him eating constantly yesterday he's been asleep most of this morning so much inconsistency with him still, but its not a problem. I put him in his moses at 10 last night and by time came back up to bed at 10.30 he was still awake just looking around didnt cry once was very impressed.

I have finally put a couple of pics of him on my profile if anyone fancies a look.

NorthernChinchilla · 27/01/2012 13:14

I think my conclusion therefore is I'm a total slattern with a smelly, grumpy baby! Grin

NorthernChinchilla · 27/01/2012 13:18

LOVE the photos figgy!

HoneyLovesChristmasCake · 27/01/2012 13:29

Darcie No on the Vicks sorry :( I think it's not recommended until they're 2 years old this article explains why.

You'd think someone would come up with some things to help our LOs with their colds. I'm thinking of getting Rocco a homeopath but I'm worried they'll tell me I have to give up tea & coffee as I'm bfing.

AnAirOfHope · 27/01/2012 13:36

Half time score: 1 all Smile

Bath Hope every other day in oillatum for her eczema and top and tail daily woth burty bee bath stuff to clean eyes and neck and bum. I also put cream on her 8 - 10 times in 24 hours to help the eczema.

Smiles about 5 - 10 per day as the eczema itches and she is not happy about it. She will smile whenc she first see someone and then at Air when he jumps about and at daddy when he pulls faces. Most of the time she is alert and just watching in silence the world around her. She is v chillied out.

It is raining and thundering here. I didn't managed to get washed and dressed before cleaners came and then they pointed out the leak under my sink to me Angry but i did bath Hope and get her dressed and Air and put the washing in.

Air in nursary, hope asleep and so shall i be Grin

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

(Then i'm going for a bubble bath)

AnAirOfHope · 27/01/2012 13:38

Also i love the photo of baby Danny - i also like the outfit, i'm a tigger fan Blush

SoTiredoftheWheelsontheBus · 27/01/2012 13:39

have had ds weighed this morning, he's now 10lbs 13oz - HV clinic was packed - it's the first time I've been for ds2, but they've just changed from every week to every fortnight, so it was a little bit hectic. DS fell asleep on the way home (magic buggy), and has been asleep for 2 hours - hooray! However, I still haven't managed that 'get some sleep when the baby does' thing, due to real life taking over (e.g. me having lunch, catching up on laundry, washing up, emergency tidying up due to having guests over next week, arsing about on mumsnet).

DS is now 8 weeks old, had his first smile at 5 weeks, but it's only in the last week that he is smiling more. Generally, singing to him is popular, but this morning, ds1 kept calling his name, and ds2 would look over to him and give him a grin, which was lovely. I've managed to take pictures with my phone, but as soon as I get the 'proper' camera near him, he stops and just stares at it instead.

Mopsy, with our moby wrap, I've been using the newborn hug hold, and recently the kangaroo hold for ds2 - both of those he has his legs inside (not sure if I've been tying the kangaroo hold properly - I've found two different ways on the web, one with body inserted into the waistband bit (within the fold), the other with the waistband bit over their body - wow, it's difficult trying to describe it without pictures.

Last week, we had several nights in a row where ds slept for blocks of hours (e.g. 4 hours, feed, 3 hour sleep, feed, 2 hour sleep), which was complete bliss. I was too scared to mention it to anyone other than dh in case the sleep fairy heard and decided we were getting too smug. Sure enough, after four days I caved and told someone, and bang, since then he's slept for 3 hours at first, then woken up ever hour since. I was up 5 times between midnight and 6 am today, and it's been similar the last couple of days. Boo!
It still feels as if he's feeding for most of the day, other than a couple of awake periods (where he's happy in his swing, or on his play mat), but I think I might try the breast compression - thanks for the links. His weightgain is now bang on the percentile, so I don't have concerns that he's getting enough, I'm just (concerned is the wrong word, maybe minorly peeved) that he's feeding for the majority of the day to stay on the 25th percentile.

sevenswansaswimming · 27/01/2012 14:41

Torrential rain and thunder? Clear blue skies here!

darcies my chemist sells an infant equivalent of vaporub (might be called snuffle balm?), I'm not sure if the article would apply to that too or not. If not try saline spray.

I bath Eva every other day but only since 6 weeks, before then it was a couple of times a week. I had a breakthrough yesterday, she normally really hates the bath and screams, I remembered DS used to like the water warmer than body temperature. I tried it and she was smiling while I was splashing the water over her, very cute.

NorthernChinchilla · 27/01/2012 15:42

Well, me and the smelly, grumpy one had a very successful wheel down into town, albeit with a fair bit of swearing at the pram and at the snowsuit, which was discarded, and crying- him, not me- owing to slowness caused by the above. He's a bit out of sorts but the bloated belly hints at what's needed....

mopsy, I just use the 'normal' hold as LO is too long (or feels like it) for the newborn and protests. Although their legs do seem to be spread, mine's quite content, maybe worth persevering?

DarcieandSkysmum · 27/01/2012 16:17

Seven Thanks Smile will get DP to get some for way home.

msbuggywinkle · 27/01/2012 16:53

Yawn! Tiring afternoon at soft play...am trying to hold DD2 awake til 6pm, but failing!

Miri has had three baths, she is 7 weeks old tomorrow. She has a bath a fortnight I don't bother really as they don't get mucky and she has very dry skin.
