Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi all, sorry I have no idea about feeds - but good luck finding out. I'm on demand bfing, sometimes it's non-stop - it could be millilitres, it could be gallons...
We went to our first swimming lesson today. Ali was good, he only cried a little bit, but only coz mummy poured water into his face (when it should have been over his head). Evol mummy!
I was told that "they don't like you bringing car seats in." ...so am I supposed to balance him precariously on the skinny bench as I dry and dress myself after sorting him out?? Methjnks the car seat will make a regular appearance!
It was only 30mins, but it must've had some effect as we both fell asleep on the sofa this afternoon (safely, of course!).

sevenswansaswimming · 26/01/2012 21:41

benny yes some ff babies cluster feed.

missree advice is to feed on demand, if she wants more I'd give it to her. Hungry baby milk is less like breastmilk than first milk and more likely to cause constipation. I asked my HV about hungry milk, she said its best to just up the feeds until they're taking 7-8oz and still not satisfied before giving hungry milk.

Eva has gained 9oz this week and is now 9lb11oz, only 13oz to go until she doubles her birth weight.

OiMissus · 26/01/2012 22:23

darcies was it you who mentioned Sky's measurements? Ali's never been measured. I'm jealous. I'm going to start measuring him.
His weight gain has been great, so I've been told I don't have to go very often - so he was weighed on 27.12.11, and then last Tuesday. But I constantly want to know.
Why do we obsess about this? When does society switch from wanting babies to put weight on, to then saying we've made our babies obese?
(where is the manual?)

fusam · 26/01/2012 22:41

Oi You have inspired me to take the two DDs swimming next week. It might be a disaster but I need to fill the days a bit for DD1 as the novelty of the new baby has truly worn off. I am also chomping at the bit to start driving and get out and about, next week being week 5 post Cs. I don't know how to access whether I am ready.

Both DDs have a cold and are so grumpy making my life hell today, grumble, grumble...

Off to bed, my new phone will be here on Monday hopefully and I can keep up with this thread better especially my fellow night shifters. At some point my two children will start operating in the same time zone, le sigh.

MissRee · 26/01/2012 22:43

Thanks seven! it's all so confusing - it seems all HCPs have different advice!

mopsytop · 27/01/2012 00:17

benny, minimopsy certainly clusterfeeds in the evening and is mainly bottle fed especially at that time as husband has her from 8-12ish while I try and get some sleep. She appears to have been feeding more or less constantly since 8 and before that 5-7.

mopsytop · 27/01/2012 00:30

I just checked and she takes between 600 and 800 ml ebm/formula every 24 hours plus several half hour stints bf so a few hours a day. No idea how much she gets from that but I don't think it can be that much...

aethelfleda · 27/01/2012 00:58

Morning. dS says that 4 hour night shift breaks are for fools. 2 and a half hours are what all the trendy kids are doing. Arg.

.

I am loving this baby, but not the sleepless night bit! This too shall pass....

mopsytop · 27/01/2012 01:00

I know it will pass but hopefully sooner rather than later!

mopsytop · 27/01/2012 01:02

Tiredness just makes everything seem disproportionately hard!

mopsytop · 27/01/2012 01:22

Minimopsy just sicked up in my hair. Yum!

mopsytop · 27/01/2012 01:32

Argh my baby won't burp when I try to wind her, but when I lay her down she starts to sick up :( not sure what to do. Been trying to wind her for ages. Nothing bar the sick in my hair from when I picked her up out of her cot. Wish there was a foolproof winding method.

Mmmmcheese · 27/01/2012 02:03

mopsy exactly the same here, its so frustrating. I also find that DD winds better when she's awake so its harder to wind at night as she drops off on the breast before windng. I hate knowing there is a bubble in there (and sometimes hearing it) but it won't come out!

Best way for winding DS was a strange one. You sit them upright on your knee then gently twist their upper body to one side and then the other. It doesn't really work for DD though. Best method for her is to sit her on my knees then jiggle them so the bottom half of her abdomen moves side to side while I hold her shoulders still. Is nearly always productive for DD but never worked for DS. After winding I alsao hold upright for 5 mins to make double sure but she can still be sick as soon as I put he down even if I've been winding for half an hour! So annoying!

Mmmmcheese · 27/01/2012 02:07

I am getting a constant low level of nausea all the time at the moment, its very odd. Good job we haven't had sex yet or I would be paranoid I'm pregnant again! seven you are very brave!

aethelfleda · 27/01/2012 04:24

Mmm, I get nausea when my body clock is messed with (used to het it when I worked intermittent nightshifts, or when I got jetlag). So it nayvjust be fatigue/sleep related. Incidentally, mine seems eorse if I nao inntye daytime (so I don't do that!£

Figgygal · 27/01/2012 04:53

I get that sick feeling too on some of the night feeds I have a stash of breakfast biscuits in the arm of my nursing chair now to keep me going.

Well LO has managed a 4am wake up today rather than 5 something so should be able to go back to sleep easier. He also went on boob easier after pretty much rejecting it all day yesterday

I'm definitely admitting defeat and buying powder SMA today worked out last night the small cartons will cost between £15 and £20 a week depending on whether go to the mammoth tesco for the litre cartons at £2.19 a litre or the local shop for 250ml cartons working out at £2.80 a litre. Honestly how long do the tins last?

bennybenbear · 27/01/2012 05:05

We are using aptamil and the powder is lasting two weeks maximum but we are using ready made cartons for night and when out. The powder is about £10 as opposed to 69p a 200ml carton.

Figgygal · 27/01/2012 05:28

Well he's fed from me had 160 ml of formula and is still crying and sucking my finger like he's never seen food in his life. Going to have to do another little bottle see how he goes.....I imagine this is a growth spurt he can't go on like this surely!!???!!

OiMissus · 27/01/2012 07:02

Morning , I've fed 4 times over night (I blame DH), 1st three winds - nothing. 4th wind = nice burp, but this one he's now sicking up. You can't win. (DH has gone to work. after the last feed Ali comes into bed, and so has sicked up on a muslin on daddy's side. Whoops.)
Today Ali is having a bath. Even after swimming I still find fluff n stuff in his hands, toes and armpits. How do they collect it?!

DarcieandSkysmum · 27/01/2012 07:09

Morning Ladies

Oi It was me that got Skys measurements done. When you next go to clinic for weighing ask them to also do height and
head. Although the HV done them ready for Sky's 6 week check next week.

I get nauseous when tired, hard to sleep in day when you have a little lady who likes to be awake for most of the day!

AnAirOfHope · 27/01/2012 07:48

final score for day 2: Floor 5 potty 4

My children are double teaming me. In the morning aaron is awake hope is asleep then as soon as Aaron goes to nursary Hope is awake untill Aaron got back from nursary! Then she was up 4 times in the night and she is very unsettled.

Dh has started on the energy drinks now to go to work Grin

Plan for today:
carry on potty training
Tidy ready for cleaners
Get dressed and washed before clarens get here
Get Aaron ready for nursary
Sleep

In a winning attempt to make up for sleepless night before, minimopsy slept from 1:30 to 08:00. Woohoo!

OiMissus · 27/01/2012 09:13

Pompoms for minimopsy (predictive text wanted to turn pompoms into "pimping" - wrong!)
Pompoms for Air!

Haddocks for me who should've got up and showered whilst LO was still asleep.
