Oh mopsy, I feel your pain! 'Why won't they f---ing do X, Y', etc; I find myself going all Spock (Star Trek, not Doctor) and thinking 'this isn't logical, why are they doing it', which is probably the most stupid thought ever, but you do find yourself wonder why? what can I do?!

itsy, I've done the same for eyes since LO was born, and have done it again this morning. It does seem to work!

Another LO sounding like Marge Simpson here, gawd he grunts and sorts.

air, really pleased that you're relaxing on the weight issue, that takes some doing.

We've not been having fun the past week or so. Poor LO had a week around wk 3/4 when I was on the anti-bs and it upset him, and made him a bit colicky. Got over that, and he's now on the evening 'fussing' thing, which is horrible. He yells, arches his back, refuses the boob but when he goes on it feeds like a baby possessed, and then when we try to go to bed he really kicks off.

Cue an hour or two of real upset, jiggling to sleep, and then about an hour of ensuring my nipple does not leave his mouth as we're lying down to sooth us off to sleep.

It varies in severity from night to night; Tuesday wasn't too bad, last night he started early and finished late (so the bloody nap didn't work then Hmm).

It appears to be classic 6 week behaviour, and I can rule out colic (because of the anti-bs and siblings I know what a colic cry sounds like) and it's not reflux- I hope, although some of the symptoms are the same.

This too shall pass........................................................................

Right, off to get dressed and off to nursery no. 2, and hope everyone gets to tick things of their day/week lists Smile.

AnAirOfHope · 26/01/2012 10:17

day two score: floor 1 potty 1 Smile

First load of washing in.

Hope asleep in her basket Shock

DarcieandSkysmum · 26/01/2012 10:24

Had Sky weighed this morning and she's now 9lb 3oz Smile in the 25th centile and growing perfectly. Height is 53cm so 1.5cm taller since birth and head circumference is 1cm bigger since birth. So happy mummy Grin

LittleMissFlustered · 26/01/2012 11:28

Had a slightly better night, he's sleeping in spells of anywhere from 90minutes to three hours. I can handle that for now:)

Kids not well today so have sent them upstairs to clear their floors while they die of whatever random virus has attacked them this time. I'm thinking about doing the laundry:)

LittleMissFlustered · 26/01/2012 11:30

Air your red book says not to weigh more than once a month, if that helps your head? I was similar with my older boy, so am trying not to bother too much with the octopus boy. The midwife weighed him when I was signed off, but am not planning on having him weighed until our six week check now:)

mopsytop · 26/01/2012 12:22

Hi all. Ugh horrible sleepless night. Managed a cpl of hrs this morning thank goodness. Do they have a growth spurt at five and a half weeks? Also she seems to be in a lot of pain from trapped wind (bottom end, farty pants). Any tips for improving this?

msbuggywinkle · 26/01/2012 12:34

mopsy 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3mths and 6mths are typical times for growth spurts so probably!

aethelfleda · 26/01/2012 12:56

mopsy, I know the thread here is "Logical, Captain" (hey, new thread title!) and not too into anectodal evidence, but DD1 did every growth spurt exactly "on time", DD2 did them at totally different times- the babies don't read the books :) but I really hope this is a growth spurt for minimopsy cos then it will all settle back down for you in a few days!

I went to the nice local drop-in breastfeeding clinic this morning: the lady was lovely, v supportive, checked my latch and pronounced approval, and told me to stick to my guns with DS, insist that they treat the tongue tie (gulp-didn't think there would be a possibility of declining once I'd got to the tonguetie clinic!) and that she could help if there was any issue after the treatment with sorting a ew latch out (nipple-tastic!). So glad I went, it was very positive.

Have to run the gauntlet that is The Swimming Lessons later: will try DS in the wrap this time rather than the buggy and we'll see if it's less of a mad wrestle...

NorthernChinchilla · 26/01/2012 13:36

Ah, glad the scoreline's evened up a bit today air.

Second nursery visit completed, with LO in wrap, so much more practical for things like that. And they look really cute so are the recipients of lots of cooing from adults and interest from the children.

Had the appointment from the doctor's about his check up and first immunisations, so that'll be a fun Friday in a fortnight.

I'm going to start going to my bf drop in too aethel- unfortunately the past three weeks have seen us be away from home, have mastitis and have a nursery visit, so I've not made it down yet. To calm LO down last night I ended up doing the (as I later found out from Dr Google) 'saddle' hold, so we're getting experimental at this end!

mopsy- let's hope our growth spurt periods pass quickly, grim isn't it? No advice on windy pants issues- lying on their tummy may help?

DarcieandSkysmum · 26/01/2012 13:44

Ladies - I want to invest in a moby wrap where's best & cheapest place to buy one from?

aethelfleda · 26/01/2012 13:55

darcies, I got mine from here: Little possums not the cheapest but they did it in majestic PurPle!

If you're not bothered about colour, you can save a few £ : marginally cheaper on Amazon

HoneyLovesChristmasCake · 26/01/2012 14:00

Darcie I paid £10 for mine on ebay with free p&p, secondhand but in new condition. If you're not fussed about the colour I think you can get one pretty cheap on there; there are usually new ones that people just haven't tried using.

DarcieandSkysmum · 26/01/2012 14:00

Thanks :) Just think it will be easier to use when I go food shopping etc.

sevenswansaswimming · 26/01/2012 14:34

Just a quick one, mopsy have you tried stripping her off to feed? We used to do it with DS as he always used to fall asleep.

Will catch up later

Figgygal · 26/01/2012 16:00

I bought (and then sold) my moby on eBay definitely check it out. I also got my babasling there.

LO is 5 wks today and has been a grizzly guts today he's now asleep in his swing finally. Seems him sleeping from 10.30pm to 5am means he will be starving the rest of the day he's had 150ml feeds of formula every 2.5hrs today as he just starts screaming, he won't take boob for more than a couple of minutes either so feeling very rejected. Until Tuesday he was on 125ml feeds but HV advised us to up it as he was finishing the bottles he now finishes the 150mls do I up it again? Am worried he will explode Smile but he is now 10lb 10 so maybe he does need it. Gah always something to worry about isn't there.

DarcieandSkysmum · 26/01/2012 16:58

Figgy Up the bottles by another oz if he doesn't drink it then never mind.

YBR · 26/01/2012 17:18

I'm feeling grotty today - going down with man-flu I think [1]
BabyYBR, OTOH seems to be doing well, being moderately contented after her first jabs this morning. Not what we'd expected.

Figgy our LO is also emptying bottles so we make two up; once she's finished the first we decant some more (say 30ml) and keep going (repeat as required. She did a massive feed last night 200ml+) and DH thought she would explode! BabyYBR also doesn't feed on the breast for long, but that's because she tends to chew and I won't put up with it!

[1] I am assuming I'm not supposed to take cold cures other than paracetamol while breastfeeding - does anybody know ...

MissRee · 26/01/2012 17:28

Freya is draining 4oz of formula every 3-4 hours too... MW said that's too much and not to up it any more though and give her water in between feeds. Tried giving her water yesterday and she immediately puked it all up and choked on it Sad

We're thinking of moving her onto C&G hungry baby formula - dunno whether to see what HV says tho?

aethelfleda · 26/01/2012 17:52

YBR - avoid decongestents like Day Nurse, the pseudoephedrine can do bad things to your milk supply. Here's what Kellymom says (some of the brand names are american: acetomenophen=paracetamol!

Kellymom

YBR · 26/01/2012 19:35

Thanks for that, aethel, really useful.

LittleMissFlustered · 26/01/2012 19:52

Today has been long!

Hoping that we're all feeling better tomorrow, I don't think the lego can take much more abuse:o

Octopus boy seems mesmerised by my new alarm clock glow. He's been staring at it for a few minutes. I assume it's that. He could just be brewing something noxious

aethelfleda · 26/01/2012 20:05

DH just came home from work/afterwork footy, muttered how it would be great to have some dinner and then went upstairs to overstimulate talk to the DDs (who I'd just got to bed after doing bedtime routine with DS suckered onto my boobs). As he now is, as DH didnt want to hold him while seeing the Dds.
How I am meant to chop onions and veg onehanded is slightly beyond me...

aethelfleda · 26/01/2012 20:33

Ahem. Sorry for slightly overwrought last post. All now better, DH reappeared, I grumped, he took DS, who's now conked out as we eat dinner. The days are long!!

Figgygal · 26/01/2012 20:43

Arrgghh he's had 6 150ml feeds already today and still crying for food unless we distract him by bouncing him around the lounge, at least my arms will get toned. Going to have to buy powder tins I think the ready made cartons are going to bankrupt us at this rate.

bennybenbear · 26/01/2012 20:57

figgy we are having the same problem here. He has between 7 and 9 x 150 ml (mostly) a day at the moment. He put on 14oz this week!! HV seemed to think it is a growth spurt or making up for lost time in the first few weeks. We're using powder during day and cartons at night or when out and about.
He normally has about 5/6 feeds by this time but will not settle between 7 and 10, it's as if we've starved him all day! Such a shame as its when DH has him so he's getting a complex!

Do ff babies cluster feed too?
