Yes aetheleda i thought that it was the bottom ones 1st, that's what's making me think it isn't teething

I will take him gp, but I can hear them now 'babies cry, its what they do' but I know something isn't right!

Mmmmcheese · 19/01/2012 22:08

DD isn't awake for very long in the day. I think at this stage they're not meant to be awake much longer than an hour at a time or they get overtired. Am sure I read that somewhere!

She has started sleeping much better in her moses in the night. I think putting a hot water bottle in her basket while I feed her in the night helps as I think she thinks she's still being held due to the heat.

However I just can't put her down in the day. She hates the bouncy chair and moses in the day, she'll do 5-10 mins tummy time on the playmat but then gets upset so I end up holding her/feeding her/putting her in the sling all day. I don't mind too much as I can get stuff done if I put her in the sling, as long as she let's me sleep in the night! I also resort to her sleeping on my chest if she won't settle. I know its not ideal but I am 100% sure I wouldn't move in my sleep and I am a very aware sleeper. Sometimes its the only thing that works so I don't feel too guilty about it. Its not very comfortable though as she's now 11lbs 12!! Pretty big weight gain from her 7lbs 7 birthweight 6 weeks ago. She is a right little fattie! Strange as DS is so skinny, I'm not used to chubby babies.

kristy I would definitely get Saul checked out. Could be something you can't tell like an ear infection or UTI or something and very simple to fix. DS was prone to ear infections but never got a temperature with them, he would just cry and cry, that was his only symptom!

sevenswansaswimming · 19/01/2012 22:15

kristy mums are pretty good at knowing when something isn't right. And thinking that some babies just cry was what stopped me from calling the HV sooner. In the end I phoned because DH and I hadn't been able to sleep in the same bed for a week and I thought we couldn't go on like it. I still feel awful knowing that she'd been crying because she was in pain with a tummy ache :(

Kri5ty · 19/01/2012 22:20

Mmm a water bottle is a great idea, as I think that's one reason he doesn't like his basket as much.

I think I'll try carrying him around in the day in a sling for a few hours, at least be won't have a dummy in!

Should I suggest possible things wrong with him at the gps? Ie 'could it be ear, uti, milk allergy' etc or just see what they say

Kri5ty · 19/01/2012 22:31

seven did they do a test or did u just change milk? What milk are you using now?

aethelfleda · 20/01/2012 02:26

Morning- is anyone up on the night shift?

Kri5ty, I think seven got sOme lactose-free formula: if you think it might be baby's finding their milk hard to digest, iyou can buy drops from the chemist called colief that contain lactase and sre meant to aid baby's digestion and can be used with EBM or formula. I don't honestly know how scientifically proven they are but my cousin used them for her LO when she got v grizzly at 6 weeks and said they helped.?worth a try..

Figgygal · 20/01/2012 02:53

I'm up had hoped for another hour but no such luck.

On sleeping in the day danny has days where he literally wakes for a change and a feed all morning then awake in afternoon an hour or so back to sleep for few hours and then he's up Un the evening. I try to keep him awake after 7.30 so he will sleep at night but if he's been up in the afternoon early evening I let him nap as long as he's up by 9, then we do some nappy free time or a bath to wake him up. Seems to work so far he's never rejected his Moses thank god. I dint know how you sleep deprived ladies do it I don't think I've had less than 6 hours sleep any night 4 weeks in though go to bed every night expecting it to go wrong and him to turn into a non sleeper, am sure it will come.

hawthers · 20/01/2012 03:08

Appears Dh has lost his magic touch in getting ds to sleep in his Moses basket so its the little man and I in the big bed while Dh is in the spare room.

Totally knackered and pissed at Dh. God men are so annoying.

AnAirOfHope · 20/01/2012 05:27

signing in for the night shift or is it just early morning now Confused

Cos Hope has eczema i get up feed, chang, cream up and feed on other side - but she falls asleep then and i'm left spraying milk everywhere. What am i doing wrong? I want it to stop, no more leaking

Yay its Friday and nearly the weekend yay - i can pass the baby to DH when not feeding lol

Also i'm sure she is smiling and laughing in her sleep, its very cute Smile

Figgygal · 20/01/2012 06:26

Darn it 2 feeds overnight tonight very unusual knew I would jinx it with my previous post about how good a sleeper he is. Couldn't decide if he was awake because was tired or because he'd pulled his legs up in his suit and got caught so was unhappy thought had best feed in case. Now back to bed feel like only just got to sleep after last feed he was in his basket grizzling for ages and he's quite loud so I keep awake paranoid he's either choking or going to throw up on himself which happens occasionally as he refuses to wind. He's so strong if he's not ready to wind he plants his feet so you can't hold him still and rub his back as you need both hands and if you put him on your shoulder he pushes away lots and flails around.

aethelfleda · 20/01/2012 07:09

Help, DS only did one boob on the 5 am then fell back to sleep. Now my right boob is enoooormous. Guess my milk supply is OK then... Getting the Weigh-In of Doom later (we will get signed off from irriitating miles-away midwife clinic if it's Ok so here's hoping!)

mopsytop · 20/01/2012 07:21

Morning all! Can you believe minimopsy slept from 1am until 7am and husband and I got to sleep in same bed! He had done night shift so I was in bed for ten hours (although didn't sleep the whole time az she's a VERY noisy sleeper!). Still amazing though. Feeling ever so slightly guilty I didn't wake her earlier cos I woke briefly at 3am and 5am but she usually lets me know when she is hungry (before she cries-her sleeping noises change) so I figured it was ok especially since my husband told me she cluster fed from 8pm to 1am (they do that on the bottle too!) so she was obviously stuffed. Feel sort if bad I got even more sleep than him but I can take her tonight.

Kri5ty · 20/01/2012 08:01

mopsy make the most of it (your oh) and yay for mini mopsy!

Saul had got feeding down to 7pm, then 1 or 2pm then 5/6am. But since he has stopped eating as much in.the day he has been wanting an extra feed around 9-11pm

OH is useless, we are ment to take it in.turns to feed, but I'll do one, and he will ignore/sleep through sauls moans and I have to get up, make bottle and wake/make OH get up and feed, to which he acts pissed off!

Kri5ty · 20/01/2012 08:04

figgy that's exactly what Saul is like when you wind him! He brings nothing up at all and is so strong its impossible to hold him!

OiMissus · 20/01/2012 09:14

Sorry about this post -especially to you figgy - I don't mean to piss you off, but like mopsy I had a great night!!!
DS feeds throughout the evening, he had his last feed at about 10:00, went to sleep at 11pm, so did we. He slept through until 4:40am! I fed him (and for only about 15mins) and changed him, and he then he slept til 8:40am!! Hurrah!
I know, I should've got up at 7:30 and showered etc., and dressed, and put make up on and been transformed into Yummy mummy , instead of my usual unwashed, baggy clothed/pyjama wearing slobbette slummy mummy , but I was enjoying the sleep so much.
He seems to be asleep again now... I'll just have another 5 mins.Grin

NorthernChinchilla · 20/01/2012 09:21

< wanders in trailing tissues and snot >

< coughs pathetically >

Morning all!

Blimey air that sounds like fun- what a cheeky little man! It's the air of defiance that makes me smile. Good luck with the potty training, it's one of the things I'm dreading having to do.

Ours is exactly the same Oi, he'll cheerfully stare at the TV for a while, enjoying the movement and the lights. What with that and the farting he is soooo a chip off his daddy's block.

I was just saying to OH last night we'll need to get a play mat or similar. In terms of playing, he'll go in his swing thing for a bit, or will lie on his change mat for a bit (say 20 mins), but then wants to be held.

DS doesn't seem to be a fan of sleeping the 'required' (cough) amount. He will sleep with me from around 11pm to 10am, with - are they called dream feeds where the baby doesn't wake? - at 4ish and 7.30/8ish. But during the day he just grazes, and dozes- he'll only actually sleep if we go out in the car, or I put him in the sling, and then he'll sleep for a couple of hours. DS has obviously not read the purple book....

I'm hoping that he'll drop into some sort of routine where he does a 'proper' feed followed by a 'proper' sleep, but God knows. As he's still cluster feeding through the evening, I don't think that'll happen yet, and I'm giving it til he's 8 weeks (he's 5, 5 at the moment) until trying to start any sort of routine. And any of the 'playing' time I'm using to eat dinner/make the next day's sarnies/put clothes away [bad mother emoticon]!

NorthernChinchilla · 20/01/2012 09:24

Oh, and good luck aethel with reducing the boob mountain and being signed off by the awkward HV!

< wanders off to find paracetmol >

aethelfleda · 20/01/2012 09:25

wow mopsy, that's fab!

Definite for your OH, kri5sty, I do think the chaps just don't get quite how 24/7 it is for us. My DH had a big shock the first full day he had with DD1 all by himself - can't remember why now but he had her for a full day and when I got back he wailed to me "I'm knackered but we haven't got anything DONE!"...

BeeMyBaby · 20/01/2012 10:00

I'm jealous of mopsy and ois sleep! I was hoping for a good night last night with a lovely sleepy baby after her BCG, but it didn't affect her at all and it was the normal every two hour waking. I don't think co-sleeping is working out very well as she still needs to be winded and 'm still having to get up for feeding in the end and her sleeps are really short (she can go for at least 3 hours during the day if we are out) so I've just completely changed the moses basket after evicting the cat.

DH and DD1 are back tonight - yay! Although means less sleep for me but nm.

OP posts:
msbuggywinkle · 20/01/2012 10:30

Morning! Feel normal again now, was a migraine yesterday.

I don't really play with babies as such, Miri lives in the sling, so when she is awake she spends her time watching what else is going on or she talks to me and I talk back. I do talk to her about whatever I'm doing at the time though, she was treated to a running commentary on doing the washing this morning.

Off out to an Underwater themed exploration centre thingy with friends this afternoon! This expensive, but the DDs will love it!

sevenswansaswimming · 20/01/2012 10:40

Congratulations on the sleeping to those who achieved it.

Eva went to bed at 7.30, woke for a feed at 10.30 then back to sleep until 3 then DH got up with her. Still not a perfect night but at least DH and I were in the same bed for some of it.

DH is good with doing the night feeds but I don't think he realises how full on it is during the day with 2 kids and trying to keep the place in order. I often don't sit down during the day other than to feed Eva, but he'll come home and say unhelpful things like "the place is a tip".

kristy we were advised to try comfort milk first (we used Aptamil comfort) which helped with her constipation but not the screaming. She would literally scream constantly unless she was in the wrap or being held upright. HV then advised trying SMA LF as a last resort before taking her to the dr, thankfully it worked and she's loads better. She's still a bit of a grizzly baby but crying I can cope with unlike screaming!

sevenswansaswimming · 20/01/2012 10:43

msbuggy does Miri spend much time awake in the sling? Eva will happily sleep soundly in it all day then be awake all night so I'm having to restrict its use.

OiMissus · 20/01/2012 11:02

Btw we had a lovely moment yesterday on the playmat. It has a 5" wide mirror dangling down that is horizontal. I noticed Ali was looking in it and could see himself, so I lay down next to him, so we could see each other. Lovely!! Smiles all round. He smiles lots now - we'll smile and talk to humans he chuckles back - since the 18th. :)

msbuggywinkle · 20/01/2012 11:33

Yes, she does spend time awake in the sling. I think she prefers to be awake when there is a lot going on, DD1 was like Eva though and would be awake all night if she had been in the sling all day. As soon as DD1 cold hold up her own head I put her in the ring sling on my hip, which worked well for her though.

LittleMissFlustered · 20/01/2012 13:54

I just realised I never actually told you ovtopus boy's name >_< He is Edward:) We were signed off from the midwives today too, as in the two weeks since birth he's put on 1lb 1oz which considering her was on the nicu/scbu wards for five days I find quite impressive. Hes on a low gentile, but is healthy apart from a bit of a protuberance under his belly button that they're hoping retracts on its own. If not I'm to mention it at the six week check:)

Sorry to all of you not getting much sleep. Apart from last night I've not had much either, but for some reason I got two stretches of two hours and feel good for it. I'm hoping it's the start of something permanent but am not counting on it:)

Right, I ought to pootle off and be productive:)
