msbuggywinkle · 19/01/2012 18:44

kristy eye contact first...they don't usually worry until a baby is over three months, and normal is 6-8 weeks so I wouldnt worry about that. With teeth...can you feel inside his mouth to check? My sister cut her first tooth at 8 weeks so it's entirely possible and would explain the huge amounts of screaming.

NorthernChinchilla · 19/01/2012 18:46

Welcome to the fellowship of the snot msb, do hope it's nothing more sinister. I've done bugger all except feel sorry for myself and feed DS, whilst watching TV, and that's the plan for the evening. How's it going for you HLCC?

We're not really being looked at either, and are only getting proto smiles kri5ty... I'm certainly no expert but from what I've read that does sound like teething, just unfortunately early.

kri5tycringle · 19/01/2012 18:58

Grr just tried feeding him again and he has fallen asleep on 2oz!

I can't feel it... he won't let me, as he bites down as soon as I try and feel! Managed to get a photo mid scream though so I'll put it on later lol

Thanks girls, as always for the advice!

I'm typing one handed whilst tickling my sons apparently non ticklish feet in a desperate attempt to wake him for more food!

I know they can be born with teeth, I was just confused as its a molar, I thought the front ones came first!

AnAirOfHope · 19/01/2012 19:08

kri5ty - i would take him to a doctor as they can confirm what is going on and give meds out if needed. With him only being 7 weeks and not feeding he could get dehydrated, so he needs looking at IMO.

AnAirOfHope · 19/01/2012 19:14

Thanks for the link msB.

Is anyone else baby got craddle cap? If so what are you putting on it, if anything? I have been puttng olive oil on it but not sure if its doing any good or not Confused

How do you potty train a 3 yo who said "no i want to poo in my pants"? I have offered sweets, toys and days out but nothing works. He knows excakly what he is doing and he is determined not to use the potty or toilet Angry He is wearing pull up's so i think i'm going to put him in normal pants and see what happens Sad

BeeMyBaby · 19/01/2012 19:18

air does he say when he needs the toilet? Definitely put him in pants as we tried pullups initially and they were too similar to nappies, but DD got the idea within 2 days when in pants as she hated being wet.

AnAirOfHope · 19/01/2012 19:22

We he knows, he will stand there look down and say "wee" and then pee on the floor, bath or where ever he is standing and then he smiles at me.

The inlaw's have been on at him form when he was 12 months to use the potty and i think he is rebeling now! They just will not leave the subject alone.

I think a trip to primart is needed for pants and joggers.

Kri5ty · 19/01/2012 19:57

air yes saul has it

i have been using olive oil but it just smells!! Someone told me dentinox shampoo is good, but it is in his eyebrows so i cant use that... just trying a cream from boots now!

I have put the photo of the "tooth" on, not sure if it will be big enough to see on here though!

Kri5ty · 19/01/2012 20:06

Random i know, but how would i find out now his apgar? Would it be on my notes? I still need to ring up for them! I don't know why i want to know lol

Kri5ty · 19/01/2012 20:10

Ps (yet again!) as i have been gone for so long you girlies may have already talked about this but what do you do with your babies??

A strange question but i dont think we play with him enough!

He feeds (about 1 hour including winding), then he just wants to go back to sleep, then wakes up crying for a feed again 3 hours later!!

AnAirOfHope · 19/01/2012 20:12

Kristy - dont worry not all babies reach milestones at the same time. Each child is an indiviual and will develop in their own time.

Hope only smiles onec a day and i'm not even sure if its a smile or wind and she is 7 weeks as well.

I agree olive oil smells and her hair looks yukky Sad

Kri5ty · 19/01/2012 20:17

I know air thank you :) i am just stressing too much!

I am still feeling majorly guilty as i still don't feel like i have bonded properly... i haven't even cried yet (happy tears), also having to ff got to me when i didnt think i would!

I gave the olive oil a week, it probs wasnt long enough but it was horrible!

bennybenbear · 19/01/2012 20:17

Hi Kristy, we've started to change Ollie after winding as this wakes him up a little so he's ready to play a bit then. You have to get your timings right though as too early and he can be sick from lying down too soon and you need to put him down for a nap before he gets overtired or overstimulated! Seems to work most of the time though.

Sorry for all you suffering with seasonal illnesses. I'm so hoping we miss it but with getting out and about more now i guess it's inevitable Sad

AnAirOfHope · 19/01/2012 20:22

I put Hope in a bouncy chair in the livingroom so she can watch me and Air play or eat breakfast/lunch if she is awake.

Sometimes Air will play peek-a-boo with her or pull jiggly bug and let her watch it go back up.

Other times Air sings to her or says "mum, mum, mum, mum" alot.

At night i do baby gym with her and move her legs and put her on her tummy for 3 mins or untill she crys.

At night if she is just awake and i need sleep i pass her to DH and he will read a story book to her or talk to her about sport and other stuff!

When GP are here they do that annoying baby talk to her and hold her alot.

I have put our name down for baby massage.

Also this week she watch Aaron and i swim, she cried so not that impressed Grin

(Shh dont tell anyone but i'm happy and i love my DD and my DS to the moon and back)

hawthers · 19/01/2012 20:43

Phew at the end of my first day at home with the two DS' and i'm knackered! Very tricky getting DS1 to drink his milk while DS2 shouted for 20 mins in protest with me singing 'little bunnies' at full volume to try to chill everyone out.
Hmmm have to do it all again tomorrow...

Still battling to get DS2 to sleep in his Moses basket over night. Anyone got any hot tips?

AnAirOfHope · 19/01/2012 20:48

swaddleing works for us.

Or put baby in basket whentired and leave to cry for 5 min to see if she/he will fall to sleep in basket - the HV told me that babies wake up when moved because the know their environment has changed and get upset Hmm

Kri5ty · 19/01/2012 20:54

Hmm it sounds stupid but I don't know how to play with him as he doesn't pay attention to anything other than lights!

He enjoys his bath and this wakes him up enough to sing to whilst I give him a massage
In his bouncer he just crys unless he has a dummy (which I only wanted to use for sleep times)

He likes his play mat for about 5 minutes then he crys

Bec do you put him down for a nap when he starts yawning?

sevenswansaswimming · 19/01/2012 20:56

"he bites down as soon as I try and feel!" Certainly sounds like it could be teething.

kristy Apgar score should have been in your hospital notes, do you still have yours as I don't. I second taking him to the drs. Up until last week Eva screamed every time I put her down. I tried giving her lactose-free milk on the advice of my HV which made a huge difference, though she said if it hadn't helped to go to the dr.

Eva is asleep in her crib for the first time in 2 days! The nursery nurse at the children's centre showed me how to massage her tummy to help with wind, so hopefully that will help. She also said to try putting something I've worn in her crib so she can still smell me when I put her down as she may just be an extra clingy baby.

Kri5ty · 19/01/2012 20:56

He does love being on his tummy though and does push ups and moves his legs in a crawl action, its the getting him to look at things I struggle with!

Good tip, I can fake change his nappy after a feed lol

Kri5ty · 19/01/2012 20:59

Seven I never got any notes from the hospital

I was thinking of trying lactose free milk, but I don't know if my gp or hv will agree with me! He wheezes after each feed too, like he needs to clear his throat

Kri5ty · 19/01/2012 21:00

Yup I think he is teething... I put a photo on here, see what you think x

OiMissus · 19/01/2012 21:24

Kristy, Alistair cried everytime I put him on his bouncer or playmat -up until yesterday. Now he'll put up with both for a limited amount of time. I just kept trying at times when he was calm.
Must admit to making him a tv addict. Bad Mummy. I lie him in front of the tv when I need 20mins to do something (like eat dinner) - he likes the lights.

aethelfleda · 19/01/2012 21:31

Kri5ty, its really hard to see from the photo as it's blurry, but if the bit you're thinking of is at the back top left, then it's not likely to be a tooth (front bottom two usually first). It nay be something called an inclusion cyst which is a harmless small round blob on the gumline where a tooth will come later. That shouldnt cause symptoms though: I'd second getting your GP to take a look.

Kri5ty · 19/01/2012 21:31

Gosh I wish tv would calm him, he literally doesn't stop crying the whole time he is awake!

I will def keep trying though! He isn't too bad on his play mat (maybe 10 mins), but crys in the chair

I know I keep saying how anti dummies I am, but I guess he wants it as it is helping him with the pain if he is teething, I might try sitting him in it with his dummy

Just out of curiosity, how long do you keep them awake for before putting them for a sleep?

Saul has his 1st feed around 7am, then falls straight back to sleep until 10ish when its his next feed! Then he may stay awake a little longer!

Sometimes he falls asleep so I put him in his basket, then he wakes up, would you get him up and play, or leave him as he may be tired?

Lol so confusing!

OiMissus · 19/01/2012 21:53

I never wake him. I pray for him to sleep! When I was in a&e I asked mum to wake him as he'd been asleep for 8hrs so definitely needed a feed. But that was a one-off!
