aethal as this is my second winter baby I am hoping next time it will be a summer baby as I have so many pretty newborn/0-3 month dresses that I've never been able to use! I am jealous of all the new babies getting to not dress like eskimos!

And the bloody snowsuit every time we go out! Minimopsy screams blue murder every time I put her in it. Yesterday I just wrapped her up in two blankies as I couldn't be doing with the screams! You'd swear I was torturing her! I think it is because her arms/legs have to be straight in it that she hates it. She still wants to be all curled up.

DarcieandSkysmum · 19/01/2012 09:57

Morning Ladies.

Had Sky weighed this morning shes now a whopping 8lbs 9oz.

Asked the MW there about Sky wanting to feed every 2hrs even tho she is emptying my boobs and i'm having trouble expressing due to the fact she is emptying me and that i've introduced a couple of bottles of formula everyday. She said it is perfectly fine and shes gaining weight perfectly so i'm doing the right thing and that i've done well to get to 4weeks anyway so i'm happy i'm doing the right thing :).

mopsytop · 19/01/2012 10:04

Nice one Darcies!! that's great!

Minimopsy was weighed yesterday and is just shy of 8 lbs. She is still 9th percentile but gaining fine. She is just wee!

BeeMyBaby · 19/01/2012 10:05

mopsy my baby looks like a giant marshmallow every time we're out... also without a dress none can tell she's a girl

OP posts:
mopsytop · 19/01/2012 10:07

Aww a really cute giant marshmallow! Most smallbabies I find it impossible to tell the sex unless, like you say, their clothes give it away.

DarcieandSkysmum · 19/01/2012 10:09

Bee If it wasn't for the pink/purple hat I put on Sky, people would think she was a boy marshmellow in her snowsuit lol.

sevenswansaswimming · 19/01/2012 10:23

Hi leaky.

darcies glad Sky is gaining nicely.

Haddocks to everyone feeling guilty, it's more important to do what's best for you. I'm not encouraging anyone to 'give up' BFing, I'm pleased I managed to give Eva some (albeit not much) breastmilk for the first 6 weeks but I'm glad now that I'm FFing. DH helps out with feeds and we take it in turns to do the nightshift. I know breast is best but if it isn't working life is hard enough with a newborn without making it harder for yourself. Also I know there are loads of judgey threads about FFing but in RL nobody has ever criticised my feeding choices.

I dozed for a couple of hours with Eva asleep on me [terrible mother emoticon]. It's so frustrating, she just wouldn't settle in her basket but was more than happy to sleep being held. I'm going to try not putting her in the wrap today other than when I walk to clinic to have her weighed and see if it helps, as I think she may have slept in it too soundly yesterday afternoon.

mopsytop · 19/01/2012 10:27

I know-is so annoying when they sleep all day and then at night are like BING! Wide awake and won't settle. Lucky they are so cute!

aethelfleda · 19/01/2012 11:40

Survived the HV -hooray! (she was quite laidback actually. Phew.)

Now aiming to get "a few little jobs" done before school pickup. Not
Sure how much will actually happen but I like to be optimistic. Plus DS has just produced a mahoosive poo explosion so hopefully will be a little while before he does it again, right??

OiMissus · 19/01/2012 11:40

Absolute haddocks and a couple of kippers to those feeling guilty. (And I hope I remember saying this in a few months when I go back to work and have difficulty expressing enough. One day my guilt will come...) My mum says that there's no way my little chunkster will be satisfied with only breastmilk for very long. She thinks he'll start on weetabix etc before 6 months... I thought the rule was milk only til 6 months.
I'm not sure I agree with mum. It's only at certain feeds that he'll do both breasts. Normally he'll do 20 minutes on one and not want any more. But then 40mins later he'll want more. I wonder whether I should try and force the 2nd breast - then I'd get more of a 3hr routine going. But then, if he does both breasts, he spits up a lot more.
It's early days still, but at almost 6 weeks it's probably time to start thinking more about routines... Just to stop the "feed every hour" cycle.
We all went up to bed at about 8:30pm last night. I was really tired after the hospital, and it helped us all to have a couple of extra hours.
Alistair is very settled today, and has spent quite a bit of time on his playmat thing. He's noticed himself and me in the dangly-mirror which was really nice. Grin

OiMissus · 19/01/2012 11:44

Nope, aethel I had poo explosion at about 9:00am, and then another at about 11:00.
(Not "I", obviously.)
BTW I do always offer the 2nd breast, but he doesn't always take it.
Actually, thinking about it, he does have both more often than not. It's just in the dead of night he's too sleepy to do both.

LittleMissFlustered · 19/01/2012 12:09

Greetings. My advice for the day is a cuppa and a slice of bakewell tart. It might not be sleep, but it buoyed my mood somewhat so I'm sharing the love.

Sorry my posts are brief at the minute. More often than not I'm on my phone being groused at >_

jigglebum · 19/01/2012 12:11

morning everyone. we are all doing ok here. freya is becoming more settled in the day and sleeping well in the day but still on 2 hour feeds at night unfortunately, which is beginning to drain me! she settles well after a fed generally though and is in the moses basket now most of the night. have to admit to her being in her own room at night most of the time now as she is soo moisy!

the bf ing guilt is dreadful isnt it? I know it is best to keep with it but I really dont enjoy it and doesnt always satisfy her, but I am lucky as she feeds well and generally my supply is ok so I have no reason to give up. so full credit to those of you struggling but still perserving - not sure I could manage it. Even had a friend with no kids telling me how I should keep wth bf ing on the phone the other day! well intentioned but annoying.

we are coping ok on our own in the week. managing to get ds to preschool, swimming etc, albeit late usually! he is behaving ok most of the time - better for me than dh and gps. wouldnt manage if I had to get to preschool or school everyday though!

NorthernChinchilla · 19/01/2012 12:14

Feel like warmed up death today, which is better than the just 'death' I felt like yesterday...OH brought home a cold, which I've caught but had the aching-all-over-stabs-of-pain-fluey-thing last night, and night sweats, so have been necking paracetemol.
Have spent 13 hours in bed with LO Blush but I needed it, and am spending today in PJs, watching OBEM and posting...and honking the hooter (which is not a euphamism for anything fun).

Welcome leaky, always good to have new recruits- do tell us about your LO, and his/her birth.

I'm so sorry that people have been feeling so guilty over the feeding issue, and Mopsy you have done, and continue to do a fantastic job. We're all coping with newborns, hormones, appalling sleep deprivation and an overwhelming desire to do the best for our LOs. Half of you amazing women are coping with other children too, and the other half of us are experiencing parenthood for the first time, so it's all a bit much!
It's also very odd if you're used to being 'Ms Rational and Sensible' at work, study or just in general, as this parenting lark just chucks all of that out of the window (ps, if you want a giggle, read the PFB thread in parenting, it will make you feel a whole lot more normal).

And you're right mopsy and benny that the advice we'd cheerfully dole out to others we'd have a hard time taking ourselves Confused

HoneyLovesChristmasCake · 19/01/2012 12:39

Ugh I have a stinking cold. My sinuses are killing me & my head is throbbing & nothing in the medicine cabinet is suitable when BFing. I want a decongestant dammit! Had a skin-to-skin duvet day yesterday but today we have made it to the sofa....I refuse to do anything until I'm better as BFing is exhausting enough. Sorry for the mememe post but can anyone tell me why my body can produce antibodies in breast milk to keep DS from getting sick but it can't keep me from getting sick? Confused

No guilt for those of you struggling with BFing; you've done bloody well to get this far. You'll get no judgement on here & you're unlikely to in RL either...in my experience you're more likely to be judged for BFing too long - I've already been asked when I'm weaning Rocco & when I plan on moving him on to formula Hmm

HoneyLovesChristmasCake · 19/01/2012 12:44

X-post Northern seems we're in the same snotty tissue filled boat Grin

NorthernChinchilla · 19/01/2012 13:18

Heh, we can be comrades-in-snot HLCC, and glad we're taking a similar approach re doing sod-all other than feeding LOs.

And yes, my otherwise hugely intelligent and lovely mother mentioned weaning to me the other night...thankfully she knows to either be quiet about stuff or just mention it in passing, as being told to sod off often offends Grin.

May go and post on 'feeding' in a bit- DS has taken to doing this weird thing, mainly at night, where he hyperventilates and pants at the breast- making all the 'feed me' signals but then won't take (or takes then breaks off) and then often works himself into a total screaming tizzy. Managed to sooth him last night with a dummy, but it can be anywhere from 20 mins to over an hour.
Not fun.

Right, think OBEM calls, then will pop LO in the sling to make him sleep and do a very quick tidy round before flopping back on sofa.

AnAirOfHope · 19/01/2012 15:26

Hello

Ihave just had Hoped weight and i'm a bit worried, there is why:

Born at just over 75th centile
lost 7%
was 9lb - 22/12
weighed in hospital was 9lb 4oz
3 days later weighed by HV and she was 9lb 0 again
Then today (13 days later) is 9lb 12oz so she had put on 12oz in two weeks and is on the 25th centile so >2 centiles Sad

She seems to be feeding fine and 6oz per week is ok but should i be concerned with the 2 centile drop?

I might get her weighed next week to make sure she is following the 25th centile.

But she is so tall she has nearly out grown her mosses basket and carry cot. Could she be tall but skinny and be on the 25th centile or am i kidding my self and she needs more milk?

I'm having seriouse baby weight gain wobble Sad

msbuggywinkle · 19/01/2012 17:02

air you could try putting all her weigh ins in here kellymom.com/babyconcerns/growth/weight-gain-calculator.html

It will give you an average which might help in giving you an overall picture.

Feel god awful, headache, shakey and sick...have called DP home, hope tis just a bug.

BeeMyBaby · 19/01/2012 17:22

msbuggy thats a really good webpage, I've never seen it before, thank you very much for pointing it out.

OiMissus · 19/01/2012 17:23

Oh dear msb hope you aren't joining the snot comrades! Thanks for the weight gain calc link.
Has anyone else measured your babies? Alistair wasn't measured at birth, and hasn't been since... I need to stretch him out and pin him down... I think he's about 60cm, I might start measuring him every month.

kri5tycringle · 19/01/2012 17:53

I'm so so sorry to be 'me me me' and not catching up with everyones news, but I just wanted to ask some advice / thoughts

Saul is now 7 weeks. When he is awake he crys constantly, non stop from the second he wakes.

The past 3 days his cry has changed, it is very whinging / high pitched like he is in pain

He has stopped eating as much as he did (only about 3oz a feed compared to 5-6oz) and keeps falling asleep whilst feeding and is very hard to wake up.

He seems tired all the time, and he is never happy or content.

Oh he doesn't have a temperature either.

He keeps chewing on his hand so we gave him a dummy so it didn't turn in.to a thumb. He chews the dummy. I looked in his mouth and it looks like a white molar is coming through! The health visitor said it could be teething, but would teething cause all that or should I take him to the docs?

kri5tycringle · 19/01/2012 17:55

Ps he doesn't smile or look at us either.... dunno if its still too early though x

BeeMyBaby · 19/01/2012 18:43

kri5ty if you are worried then it can't hurt to go to the doctor, and to be honest if my DD was having those kind of symptoms I would go - even in hope that the doctor would confirm teething.
