NotBobbysGirl · 24/02/2012 17:22

Ooops posted too soon, meant to say as well that looking at the arrivals list and the spring weather beginning is making me feel very nostalgic & sentimental of this time last year!!

OutMeAndDie · 24/02/2012 18:15

Hmmm I don't seem to be on the stats list Sad. S was born may 11th but due 28th April.

So sorry punch

Phew nbg

Yay Ali long may it continue.

Poor m chilli. how's she feeling now? You must be exhausted.

fizz s also loved his walker too :-)

Anyone else going to the baby show tomorrow?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 24/02/2012 18:43

OutMe - it's not too late, put yourself on the stats Smile

I've been looking at pictures of cakes to make, but they all seem beyond my abilities!

Sorry to hear about the job Punch, that's shite.

Fizz - I'm sure when I requested my notes I found out how to get a copy via the hospital's website. Maybe try that? How is your scar these days? I hope it's all ok.

I've just done a short run ......... Which will be offset by the Chinese and wine later Grin

chillikat · 24/02/2012 21:48

Thankfully no more vomit since lunchtime. M had a big afternoon nap and seemed much happier, though she refused anything for tea. I couldn't be bothered cooking so DH and I got curry :) I'm pretty tired so off to bed - I'm expecting her to need feeding a few times tonight.

Rubbish about the job punch :(

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 24/02/2012 22:45

Punch that is rubbish, I'm really sorry Sad

Chilli what a horrid time you're having, Sad really hope M is on the mend now.

We are staying in a vair nice hotel for my brother's wedding, both boys fast asleep in the room off ours and I've had a lovely couple of hours in the bar with some friends and family. May have slightly over indulged on the Wine
DH is having his turn down there now and I am doing a face mask so that I look fabulous tomorrow Grin

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 24/02/2012 22:49

ILike Nigella is very good for cakes, but expensive. I have a book called the Be-ro book, which I think was a 60's brand of flour, and the recipes are very simple and have never let me down.

We have having a sort of secular christening for T next month and I really need to make a cake. For DS1's we had the top tier of our wedding cake so no effort required!!

GsyPotatoPieEyed · 24/02/2012 22:53

Just checking in, has been a manic couple of weeks. The whole family have had a vomiting bug. Just recovering from that and I've now done something to my back which is making me hobble around like an old woman. Did the NCT sale tonight and have come back with loads of unsold stuff (did make £60+, so at least not a complete waste of time).

Sorry to hear about DH's job punch and I hope all those others down with various bugs get well soon.

Happy Belated Birthday to C.

NBG I cheat on birthday cakes too. My mum (who is a great cake maker) is making DS a Lightning McQueen Cake for his 4th birthday and P's 1st birthday cake will be a tower of 24 homemade cupcakes which I won in a local babyshow's raffle.

GlaikitFizzog · 24/02/2012 23:18

ILike, I have this book which is very good! Taught me everything I know!! It has recipes for cakes that haven't failed yet for me! Plus guides on how to make all the different types of icing a modelling paste. And step by step guides to decorating them.

Ali enjoy your night, but be careful doing beauty treatments whilst under the influence. Been there, done that, got the chemical burns :o! Is it a Humanist thing you are having for T? Been thinking about doing something similar, but thought we had missed the boat on it with B being almost a year old.

OP posts:
Alibabaandthe40nappies · 24/02/2012 23:42

Fizz we are just having it at home. We have chosen guide parents for T as we did for DS1, and we just have a party, a cake and a v.short speech!
We would have ideally done it sooner, but we were on holiday, then Christmas and then this wedding so it will actually be 3 days shy of T's first birthday.

If you want to then go ahead, we are not religious but I think it is nice to formally welcome a baby into the extended family (and I include close friends in that).

GsyPotatoPieEyed · 24/02/2012 23:43

x-posts earlier Ali
Hope you all have a lovely day tomorrow Smile

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 24/02/2012 23:50

Thanks GGF Smile

JKSLtd · 25/02/2012 20:21

Ali - hope your head was ok today :)

My strict diet/weight loss plan is going well so far, am now 9-stone-something Grin So have lost about half a stone in 2-ish months, which puts me on track for bikini on the beach in Jersey in August :)

GPPE - I'll have to wave in your direction!

chillikat · 26/02/2012 11:31

Envy JKS at your 9 stone something. That's where I'd like to get back to. Admittedly I'm only half a stone off but the tiredness doesn't lend itself to cake avoidance. After all the cake talk I made an apple cake yesterday. It's now gone in the freezer as M was generous with her bug and DH and I were taking turns to be sick all night :( It's been 6 hours and I've had tea and toast so I'm hoping that's it for me. DH seems to be worse and is still in bed. I'm hoping he feels better soon and I can get some sleep while he looks after M. Last night was grim, I had to put her back in the cot a couple of times instead of feeding as I had to dash to the bathroom.

JKSLtd · 26/02/2012 12:19

Well chilli the other times I've lost baby weight it started with a bug! So silver lining you may be closer than you think Grin
Seriously though hope you're all better soon it's horrid being ill with a baby to look after.
I felt 'off' recently not sure what, but have had 2 afternoon naps in a row, pretty sure I'm not pg!!
Dd has adopted her brothers plan and woke at 5.45 this morning sigh. But after refusing naps yesterday let herself be rocked and put down this morning phew.

DairyBeetle · 26/02/2012 19:47

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo S is ill, AGAIN!!

We had a couple of horrid nappies yesterday, but I've just started a course of anti biotics so assumed it was that, then from 1am he was up and down, high temp, refusing Calpol (sure sign he's 'proper poorly') and would only sleep on me or DH. He's been snotty and clingy all day, with lots of sleep (still only on me though) and I thought that would be it, but he chose dinner time to spew all over me, my food, and the floor. He's now perked right up and had a bath and (from the sound of things) gone to sleep. I'm now manically planning for Tuesday as he won't be 48hrs post throwing up so won't be able to go. I have a huge deadline on this week, and have already missed a week of work having to take days off while he's sick. I know it's not his fault, and I feel shit for worry about work when I should be worrying about my baby but I know that they're going to have to pull me up if I have to take any more short notice days off.

Gaaa! Too much for my brain to handle on too little sleep! Sorry it's such a woe is me post when I've not been on all week.

Chill I really hope you're all better now, being ill with a baby to look after is one of the hardest things I've had to do (and somehow I've always recovered quicker than DH... Hmm )

Punch sorry DH didn't get the job Sad fingers crossed it means there's something better just over the horizon.

Ali hope you've had fun at the wedding!!

Fizz we're combining a 1st birthday and 'introducing Sam' party so it's never too late! I knew that there would be lots of friends and family who want cuddles and I'm much more comfortable with that nearer a year as S can 'tell' us when he's had enough/wants to hide in the sling where as at a younger age he'd have just got over stimulated, we'd have got stressed and railroaded by certain family members!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 26/02/2012 21:34

Nice to see you Gsy, glad to hear you are all clear of the vomitting bug and hope your back gets better soon. I also hope you feel better soon chilli

Hope the wedding went well Ali Smile

We've had a few early wake up calls as well JKS There's just no telling with baby I. Sometimes it is stupid early, sometimes we all oversleep because he hasn't been our alarm clock!

Oh Dairy, illnesses can be never ending can't they? Can you dh take time off to look after S?

Gawd I've felt knackered these past few days. I went to bed at 9 last night and even then I had been holding off going for about half an hour!

I always read before I go to sleep and I had noticed that it had taken me about 3 nights to read 38 pages Blush of my new book (Never Let Me Go). I put it down to the book being hard going, but I sneaked in 30 minutes of reading in bed this morning and read about the same amount of pages again. I then realised that the book wasn't hard going, I've just been so tired that I have been reading at a snails pace!

The last book I recently finished was The Sister Brothers, it was v good. Would thoroughly recommend it Smile

GlaikitFizzog · 26/02/2012 21:40

Oh no Dairy, poor S. Any chance DH can take some time off instead of you?

My mum is doing a 1st Birthday party for B at her house in April now. It makes sense to have it up there because everyone we would invite are up there and then we'll have abirthday tea here for my AN ladies and babies later.

B is loving his walker, I wish I'd got it sooner TBH he's been whizzing about all day in it, spent an hour on Skype to my mum as it's her birthday, entertaining her, back and forth, back and forth!!

Oscars tonight! I stayed up last year, I think I'll sky+ it this year as B has taken to waking at 5.30 this past week!

This bug is still hanging about me too, my ears and throat are sore and I just can't shift it. I'm dosing up on multi vits in the hope that wiill help! Grim.

OP posts:
chillikat · 27/02/2012 11:57

No vomiting here for over 24 hours now :) DH has taken today off work as sick just in case he would pass it on so we're pretending it's Sunday.

MumToTiny · 27/02/2012 13:14

Aw, so many poorly babies (and mummies and daddies!) - hope they're all feeling better soon. T seems to have the constitution of an ox (bound to have jinxed our run of healthiness now!) - we've had the odd snotty nose, but I think only one proper cold so far. He must take after his mother [preens] the only thing he takes after me for, he's the spitting image of his Daddy as DH seems to get every cold going, but very rarely passes them on to me.

Hope you had fun at the wedding Ali - I was at a Hen party this weekend (see Facebook for photo of T in our night out headgear!). It was local, so I came home on Sunday morning Saturday night and T and I went back down on Sunday - the Hen is his Godmother so loved the fact that he came! We had a spa day in Cardiff, followed by a quick visit to the pub to watch the rugby the result of which made us Welshies very happy!!! Will say no more then a posh meal and drinkies, and I rolled home after 1 Blush. Hadn't had much to drink, so I fed T, but he was too greedy or he doesn't like the taste of Archers and milk and vommed all over our bed at 2.30. Slattern that I am, I put a towel over the wet patch, changed T's PJs, and we all went to sleep.

Ali I am so jealous of your T's sleeping! We can put T down awake now, and he goes off with a bit of back rubbing and shhing (lots of rubbing and shhing if it's Mummy's turn, Daddy can do bedtime in half the time it takes me Angry), but he's a sod to resettle. Bedtime usually 8.30ish. First wake up after 45-90mins is fine. Maybe a quick cuddle but then back in the cot, quick rub/pat and he's asleep. Then he usually wakes between 11-11.30 and I feed him (have been sitting up in bed in the hope that I can then transfer him to the cot, rather than feeding lying down) but I'm quite often unable to get him back into the cot then - sometimes I'll think he's settled and will get into bed, only to have hysterical crying after less than 5 mins which will either take DH 20 mins to sort out, or if it's my turn usually ends up with him back in bed. The irritating thing is that the first night we put him down awake he went from 8.30-5 in his cot (with a few back rubs and shhing episodes, so not self-settling for that whole time) - so I know he can do it! Neither of us have got the energy for the night time wake-ups at the moment, so he's getting very mixed messages about night time - feels like we're never going to get our bed back!
Any tips would be gratefully received!!

OutMe S and T have got so much in common! T was due on the 28th too! Now if they'd been the same weight that would have been really weird. But T was only 7lb3 despite my MW saying I was measuring big and sending me for growth scans, good thing he wasn't born on his due date, he'd have been titchy!

Punch sorry about DH and the job, hope something turns up soon.

Sorry for epic post and lack of namechecking, can't scroll back through messages on my phone and it's so long since I've posted, I could never comment on everything without writing War and Peace Congratulations if you made it to the end! Grin

MumToTiny · 27/02/2012 21:23

Oh no, I've scared everyone off with my mammoth post Blush

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 27/02/2012 23:01

I am here Grin I can't really give you any tips on the sleep, because I don't think we did anything differently. Just suddenly he has got better at sleeping.

T has taken an age to settle this evening, he is still a bit out of kilter from the weekend I think. As long as he sleeps ok now then it will be ok.

Ladies with 2 or more - heeeeeeeelp meeeeeee! How the %%&$$* do you get anything done?
I am struggling to get back into the swing of being with them both all day on my own now that DH is back at work. T has become a Clingon, he won't let me put him down for more than 5 minutes and then DS1 is wanting food, needs me to help him with a puzzle, or lego or whatever - plus I like to try and spend some focused time with him each day obviously! I am literally run ragged and I have no time to do more than fight domestic fires. The latest blow to my attempts to get anything done is that T has worked out how to climb out of his highchair despite being strapped in so I can't leave him for a second.
Tips and tricks gratefully received!

GsyPotatoPieEyed · 28/02/2012 00:45

I hear you Ali. Unfortunately I can give no advice whatsoever as my house is a shambles. I try and get the bathroom, floors etc done when DS is out with DH on a Sunday morning. P will usually be happy in the playpen for a while. More often than not though we'll end up doing an extended BF and I start watching something on the Iplayer whilst she naps on my lap.

I'm just hoping for a miracle in September when DS starts school that I will suddenly turn into a domestic goddess Hmm Until then, I just try and limit the amount of time we spend in the house as much as possible Grin

Enjoy Jersey in the summer JKS. We last went when DS was 2. I'd recommend the Durrell Centre obviously and he also loved the playground at The Amazing Maze too.

How's Never Let Me Go Ilike? It's on my "must get round to" reading list. I have to read in bed before I go to sleep, probably not ideal especially as I'm rubbish at going to bed early. I'm reading Caitlin Moran's "How To Be A Woman" at the mo.

My back is starting to improve now. The wine/champagne I drunk at a friends birthday on Saturday certainly helped me sleep better that night. The alcohol obviously relaxed the muscles. And to think I very nearly cancelled as I didn't feel like going out. My mum came round to help put the DC to bed so DH could taxi me. I said I'd probably be ready to be picked up at 10.30pm. I ended up calling just after midnight as we were the last group left in the restaurant. Blush

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 28/02/2012 08:12

I don't have any ideas either Tiny, ds's sleep seemed to fix itself. It's still not great, but more often than not he sleeps through. Like you've found, dh could settle him quicker than I could, so for a while dh done the majority of settling - especially when I was trying to stop night feeds.

I just fire fight with cleaning as well Ali. I do the basics of hoovering, dusting and laundry. But other things like skirting boards, fridge, windows etc don't get a clean. Although I did look at our fridge the other day and realised it is filthy Blush The plan is to get a cleaner and I'm sorting out a window cleaner at the mo, and they also clean the windows inside.

Have you got a travel cot or playpen to put T in for a while. However I imagine he is so mobile it won't be very popular! I mostly do little and often, but really that's just to get the 'must do' list done, emptying dishwasher, cleaning the bathroom, cooking meals etc.

I could do more in the evening when the boys are in bed, but tbh I can't be arsed. The evenings are for me without anyone demanding food, attention or bum wiping!

How the fuck woman got everything done before all of the domestic help we have (dishwashers, washing machines etc) I will never know Confused No wonder life expectancy was lower.

I am enjoying Never Let Me Go GSY. Very well written. The main character is really likeable and serene. The story is a great concept too.

How are you liking Caitlin Moran? We read that for Book Group last year. I really enjoyed it, although the last third of the book seems to lose it's way a bit. Before I read the book I had never heard of her Blush

Ds off to pre school this morning while baby I and I wrap some presents - I'll be doing the wrapping while I eats the paper!

JKSLtd · 28/02/2012 09:08

I have a cleaner Blush it's the only way certain things get done. And a window cleaner but he only does the outside.

I like the term firefight I def do that with general house-control stuff.
I have found more recently that ir been able to do 'above & beyond' stuff but that'll prob stop when dd gets mobile.

It feels like we're on the cusp of otal chaos once she gets going, bad enough when she's in the walker!
Only a 3 year gap to ds2 but I realised that actually both boys are relatively sensible, they don't trash the house, just make a mess with toys, cushions, etc.
Was hoping dd would be a serene non-into everything kind of child but it doesn't look like it so far!

Library & bf group this morning, dropping off wedding shoes to get dyed (only nearly 8 yrs later!) and ds1 swimming& orchestra later.
Luckily dd only whimpered a bit lat night but ds2 was up at 4.56....
