Well, mine is anyway .
Here it is - a new thread to celebrate the new year with our babies.
Back later - I'm on the laptop at the mo and find it tricky to use smaller keyboard to type.

Eulalia: Your poor dd. What a nightmare for you all. Hope her arm heals quickly. Thanks for your tips about your experience of travelling with little ones. We have hired a high chair and cot with our villa and will take our maclaren buggy with us and by the time we go I presume Harry will be sitting up on his own - he is still a bit wobbly! My brain is so fuddled from last time about babies and their milestones - I must read up on some of my books, we always adjusted the milestones with ds1 as he was prem. I was reluctant to start weaning Harry before he was 6 months but gave in due to a bit of pressure from dh to start a bit earlier. Ended up only a couple of weeks early in the end but leaving it that bit later he very quickly progressed very quickly to 3 meals a day!

I wasn't sure if there were many other bf mums - it is good to hear other people's experiences. I have to say I have so enjoyed bf this time round mainly I suppose because it has worked - it was a real struggle last time.

Mrs D: You are indeed a brave woman to get into a swimsuit in a public pool. My dread is that I will bump in to someone I know when I'm in my swimsuit - needless to say that is why poor Harry hasn't been swimming yet! Bad Mummy! He will have to wait until the holiday!

Bello: I'm kind of following Annabel Karmel's book as well but adjusting the dates as it is a bit out of date from when I had ds1. Thanks for the tip about the booster seat and the sterliser bags - I'll check them out.

Muma3: DS2 is just rolling and starting to flip over but keeps getting his arm stuck but was only born 18 July. He can't sit up unaided yet. How about your baby?

hoxtonchick · 24/01/2006 17:34

i am still breastfeeding. dd is mad for it, & i don't want to stop yet as she's my last baby. she does like her solids too, but is very snooty about bottles. i am panicking about nursery....

muma3 · 24/01/2006 17:40

2nd june no crawling or teeth yet . not worried though just curious as to babies younger and more advanced

mrsdarcy · 24/01/2006 18:30

Hi Mama3. DD is sitting (wobbly though), No teeth, nowhere near crawling or standing

Well, I just saw the 2 of us on TV at Waterbabies. I don't think any of the underwater shots were of her, but there is one of me and her splashing around. She looks adorable. I look like Jabba the Hutt in swimming goggles . I really ought to stop eating sweeties.

chapsmum · 24/01/2006 19:02

Hope I'm not intruding, my wee ds was born on july 14th, it great to here what the other bubs are up to!

mrsdarcy · 24/01/2006 19:43

Hi Chapsmum . My DD was born on 15th!
Is he your first?

chapsmum · 24/01/2006 20:16

he is, just started crawling to the wee monkey!
Only been at it for three days but already he's chewed my hoover cable, killed two of my plants, broke the hyighdry and generally caused utter chaos!!

hub2dee · 24/01/2006 20:37

evenin' all. Quickie: dd is eating various puréed fruit and veg, and we've got Annabel Karmel... but I was just wondering as to frequency and quantity of 'solids' ? dd can demolish one hipp / heinz / beechnut size jar in a sitting no sweat, often wanting more... 3 or 4 times a day I guess. We stop when she doesn't seem to want any more food but we're not getting vomits / tummy pains etc. so I don't think we're overfeeding... just wondering how much all the other babbas are eating ?

mrsd - your TV appearance sounds fun ! Glad dd enjoys her swimming. I'm gonna be uploading a new album tomorrow !

Bagpuss30 · 25/01/2006 11:51

LOL mrsd, you did not look like Jabba the Hut at all! (good Star Wars ref though) and I do think that your dd looked adorable too .

Well, it has been absolutely ages since I last posted - haven't really had much to say (unlike me!) and have been really busy with things here. Oh, also I became an auntie again last week too . So, ds2 now has a little play mate.

I will attempt to read all of the posts properly later, I have just quickly skimmed, so sorry if I miss anyone out!

Hub, ds2 is eating small amounts three times a day - equivalent to half a jar size wise I would guess. I have also just started giving him some fingers of toast and some little baby biscuits that I found in the supermarket to supplement the mush, which he sort of gums off and swallows eventually. He seems happy with this. I have also cut him down to three bottle feeds a day now as we were offering him more but loads seemed to be getting thrown away. He sometimes wakes for a fourth feed in the night but not always . HTH

Daf, hope the Chicken Pox clears up soon and that your dd is more settled at night for you.

Eulalia, dd's burn sounds nasty - I hope she is getting better. dh left our iron out the other week and my dd decided to go and touch it and gave herself a very small burn . I was livid with dh.

Belo, hope work is going OK. Did you end up with some cloth nappies in the end? If so, I hope they are working out OK.

Webwoman, we have some microwave steriliser bags for holidays which I've just found in a drawer, I have never used them though as dd wouldn't take a bottle at all (not sure why I bought them actually) and so will be giving them a test run with ds2 in a couple of weeks when we go away. I am also going to invest in some disposable bibs and have bought a ruck sack style bag for ds2's bits and bobs for when we are out and about.

Speaking of which, I really need to find out how to wash ds's lambskin as I have had it on the floor for ages and it is getting quite dirty - the washing instructions are very helpfully in German. I was going to use it as extra padding in his travel cot. If anyone knows how to wash one I would be very grateful if you could share .

hoxtonchick · 25/01/2006 11:54

chuck it in the machine bagpuss . well, it is wool isn't it, so i wash it on the wool cycle, with that delicates washing liquid stuff. washing it's ok, but the drying takes literally days...

oh, we got dd's passport after 6 days in the end. hooray. so now need to book accommodation in sicily.

mrsdarcy · 25/01/2006 13:56

and Bagpuss - I was consoling myself that in goggles and a cossie no one would recognise me, but if someone who has met me once does - gah! DD was pretty good coming up for air though wasn't she?

Belo · 25/01/2006 20:04

I also need to wash dd2s lambskin. Thanks for the tip HC. I was planning on taking it to be dry cleaned, but then started to worry about the chemicals that would be used....

We've been using Motherease Bagpuss, and I like them. Didn't realise we needed booster pads at night for a while so we had a few soggy beds, but now I've discovered them, I'm very pleased. I want to buy some bigger wraps, or different ones, as dd2 gets red marks on her legs from the ones we've got. But, there has been no more nappy rash which is a real relief. Thanks for you advice on them.

As to weaning, I've been a domestic goddess and making all of dd2s food for home, and to take to nursery. I was livid last night when I found out that they had given her chocolate pudding and sauce after her lunch! They said she was still hungry and they had forgot that they had had spare food which I'd given them in the freezer.

As to amounts, she has 4 icecubes 3 times a day, plus sometimes an extra peice of fruit in the afternoon. As to milk, she has 3 feeds from me a day, and 1-2 bottles of about 5ozs. She's not very keen on the bottles though. She refuses them point blank from me, but will take them from everyone else after a bit of a struggle. My dairy has now closed down apart from mornings and evenings .

Oh, forgot to say, she is now sitting up brilliantly. I can't remember the last time she wobbled over. And, she loves to play with all her toys. They have all of a sudden really grabbed her attention.

Bagpuss30 · 26/01/2006 14:32

Thanks for that HC, I wasn't sure but I'll do it that way once I get some washing liquid I think. I was imagining all sorts of wierd and wonderful products to protect it etc, but that sounds easy enough.

Belo, glad you like the nappies. We are having some night time probs too now that ds2 rolls over on his front. The fleece wraps I had been using tend to wick under the pressure and make everything soggy so I have gone back to using my PUL ones at night. I am finding it hard to resist buying some more styles at the moment too - I don't need them but I want to try them all!

mrsd, your swimming class looked excellent actually. I find it very difficult not to watch anything with little babies on - wish they did one near me really as I'm sure ds2 would love it.

hoxtonchick · 26/01/2006 16:49

dd has 2 teeth! dunno how long she's had the 1st one for....

hub2dee · 26/01/2006 16:56

bp - they do special washing liquids for wool btw.

thanks for all food advice, dd still on 50th centile for weight so I guess we're doing alright !

Eulalia · 26/01/2006 16:58

Just back from the clinic - got ds weighed. We worked out he is 25 weeks, 5 days exactly. He's only 14lbs, 11oz. Just a tiny tot. Slipped down the scale a bit again so definately time to get out the baby rice.

Must go as he needs feeding...!

merryberry · 30/01/2006 10:25

Whoopidoo, back online at a fat juicy slick 2meg now! Flying visit to say hi all. Have read a couple of screens and hope to peruse in gory detail later in the week. Any headlines for me, if anyone feeling kind enough to editorialise?

My headline is my thyroid is low, explaining my not myself-ness in spades. I am asking for help about it here . Any of you guys having this happen?

Much love to you all, glad to be back, yours merrily, sluggishly and berrily.

Belo · 30/01/2006 14:13

Hello MB. Hope you're nicely settled in your new place. Can't offer you any advice on your Thyroid problem. Sorry.

HC, how's feeding going with the teeth? I can't remember what it was like from last time.

Nothing exciting to report from me. Wishing I wasn't working full time as dd2 really is going through such a cute phase..... But, I do get more time to go on Mumsnet.

Bagpuss30 · 30/01/2006 14:20

Hi all! Glad to see you about MB and Belo .

Just wanted to post my big news for today - ds2 has a tooth!!! I so wasn't expecting that. Probably explains why he was feeling so grotty last week though.

OP posts:
merryberry · 31/01/2006 08:35

congratulations on the tooth. no sign of them from vin yet. he is cracking me up this morning, he has turned his nose up at porridge and at apple and blueberry puree and is half way through a slice of my rye bread and garlic and herb soft cheese instead!

Eulalia · 01/02/2006 13:50

Merryberry - sorry to hear about your thyroid. No advice I am afraid. Hope the move went well.

Bagpuss - congrats on the tooth.

I am feeling crap with tonsillitis - I shouldn't have taken ds swimming yesterday.

Well I thought 1st Feb would be a good day to start solids - I am all organised got the highchair out the loft, bought new bowls, utensils etc, exprssed some milk to mix in with pureed pear and... ds has currently fallen asleep on my lap. I tried him in the highchair and he is so tiny the shoulder straps are up by his ears!

It's cold here - I think I may need a hot toddy later.

Bagpuss30 · 01/02/2006 14:31

Oh, Eulalia, get the scotch out later, I agree!! Sorry to hear you are unwell. The weather is miserable here and I really hate going out in it so ds2 is asleep upstairs and I am sat here with a coffee. They look so funny in their highchairs at first don't they? ds2 is now sitting more upright and manages to sit unsupported on the floor for a few minutes at a time which is good. I must admit though that we tend to sit him in the Bumbo to feed him breakfast and lunch and only use the highchair at dinner time when everyone is sat round the table.

MB, was going to add the other day that I had a read of your other thread and can't say I've come across that before but I really hope you manage to get better soon. Vin sounds like ds2 with the food though, he will eye up everything on my plate in addition to his own!

I wonder where everyone can be - it is so quiet here atm.

OP posts:
merryberry · 02/02/2006 11:19

Cheers my dears. Have just swallowed my first thyroxine pill. Here's hoping the drugs do work...hmm? I know scotch does for winter ills - get better soon

hub2dee · 02/02/2006 18:36

Hye mb, hope you notice a pick up.

Babba doing something very funny / odd: between every spoonful of baby splodge, she'll shove her thumb in her mouth ! Fairly funny, fairly cute, very messy ! Holding her hand seems to keep the digits occupied enough that she doesn't want to do it...

LOL.

merryberry · 04/02/2006 11:45

breast milk a-go-go. it is very dramatic the increase in supply withing 48 hours of starting thyroxine. i think i am a bit perkier as well, but picked up a dose of food poisoning so hard to tell.

camille sounds cute. vin is into finger foods, but gets very frustated as only about 20% hits the mark. dp is struggling with the mess, so I tend to reserve this for morning and noon meals when he's not around.
