Well, mine is anyway .
Here it is - a new thread to celebrate the new year with our babies.
Back later - I'm on the laptop at the mo and find it tricky to use smaller keyboard to type.

Hello everyone. Havent been on here for weeks and weeks, largely due to dd1 having discovered msn with her friends! I trust you are all well. I will try and have a flick through later.

DD2 is doing well. Planned to not wean until 6 months but over xmas (she was 5 months) she made it very very clear she was ready, so we went with it, and my god does she love it! She is just starting to sit up for a minute at a time.

See you soon x

pink m what did you give dd2 for weaning and how much did you give i am a bit confused thanx

hoxtonchick · 19/01/2006 18:48

poor dd has a throat/ear infection & is not a happy bunny. dosed up on neurofen & we have our fingers crossed for a better night. i was so exhausted from tues that i went to bed at 7 last night . i bought her lots of lovely tights today to cheer her up....

mrsdarcy · 19/01/2006 19:56

Hello everyone

Poor DD, HC. Hope she feels better soon. Where do you recommend for tights? I've been getting them from John Lewis but fear that in pink ones she looks like a piglet, and in red ones like a hen!

Glad the sleep training is going well Belo.

Congratulations on the tooth, Aussiesim!

DD is getting on OK with solids but not taking in any huge amounts. I stuck to baby rice for the first week, just once a day, and over the last 2 days have mixed it with some butternut squash, also just once a day. She is pretty pleased to see it but just has a couple of spoonfuls. She definitely isn't gobbling it all up.

I have put her in the big cot and for the first time in AGES she has fallen asleep on her own . Oh, she's woken up.....spoke too soon....

hoxtonchick · 19/01/2006 20:06

hennes, mrsd. they are fabulous . sending sleeping in cot vibes.....

Belo · 21/01/2006 09:33

I need to get tights too. I've lost all of dd1s. I think I'm going to get 12-18 month ones as the cloth nappies make her bum soooo big. I went into Hennes on Thursday and it was all summer stock, or odds and sods of winter sale stuff. Any other tips HC?

Sleep training is going well. She has slept for 3 nights from 11pm until whenever dd1 woke her. Long may this continue.

Well done MrsD on holiding on with the weaning until the 6 month recommended guideline. I was aiming for that.... dd2 was being a brilliant eater and enjoying most things, but she's got a cold and a bit of a temperature and only seems to want baby rice at the moment. But, she's eating huge quantities of that.

Joje, my request for part time work was turned down as to the nature of the job. And, I agree, if anybody else had asked to work part time my opinion would have been that it wouldn't have worked. But, they can't blame me for asking.

I'm half looking forward to going back. It will be nice to have lunchbreaks and to read a book whilst traveling to and fro. And, dh will have to start pulling his weight with the girls and around the house! But, dd2 is becoming so lovely. I think 6 months is one of the cutest times. I cried on Thursday when I handed her over. She is now asleep in her high chair with baby rice all over her face. She's totally gorgeous. I wish I could have more time with her. dd1 on the other hand is going through a very naughty and answering back phase. I'll be glad to hand her over!

hoxtonchick · 21/01/2006 11:29

i agree it's such a lovely age isn't it, belo. i got the tights in the marble arch branch. actually, the 6-12 ones are massive, much much too big for dd, so they may fit over your nappies.

poor dd has the most amazing rash though i think her ear isn't hurting any more, she's much more cheerful & has been eating properly again. and the nights have been a bit better, notwithstanding ds trying to get into our bed & me shouting at everyone .

blondie82 · 21/01/2006 11:43

havent been on here for a while. how is everyone doing?

DiamondsAreForever · 21/01/2006 13:09

Hi everyone. It's very quiet on this thread at the moment- we must all be busy steaming and blending vegetables!
When do you start back at work Belo?
I am so busy at work at the moment that I don't have any time to miss dd, but I have got about 7 photos of her on my desk so I feel like she's with me anyway! She is getting on great at her childminder- who is absolutely fabulous. However, she is now on her second cold caught from the other children there and now she might have chickenpox- two spots so far and I bet there's another six hundred on the way, the poor little thing.
However, she is still just the best fun ever and laughs all day, even with two streams of bogies coming out of her nose!

We have also finally found a new house and move in two weeks, so I am now supposed to be packing instead of playing on the computer.
Still, I have just bought a gorgeous sofa bed from ebay (I am still addicted) for £23! I think that may be the bargain of the decade, as it is worth about £300.

anyway, I hope you are all well and all babies are spot free!

Oh, and on the tights issue- we have bought ours from Sainsburys, they are really good and fit beautifully.
have a nice weekend everyone. x

mrsdarcy · 21/01/2006 15:19

DaF - if it's any comfort, IME the earlier they get chickenpox the better. It gets it out of the way and littlies don't seem to get it very badly (although I may be talking total tosh!)

I can't find the highchair conversion kit for our trip traps so feed dd on my lap and am consequently covered in goo! Something for my to-do list!

Now, how can I get myself in shape when I need to bring dd everywhere I go? The gyms round here don't have creches and for long and dull reasons DH can't mind her whilst I go out, so she really is with me 24/7. I need something low-impact too. I am going for bracing walks on the beach (on the promenade until I get an all-terrain buggy, when I will go on the sand) but I think my lardiness needs something more. Any advice most welcome

Belo · 21/01/2006 19:30

Poor dd DAF. Hope she's ok. A friends kids have just had it so I'm expecting dd1 and dd2 to get it on Monday. That's when I'm due to start at work! The older kid had it much worse than the younger one. She's been giving them piritine (spelling?) which apparently stops the irritation from the spots.

MrsD, I was much more disciplined about exercise when i had dd1 than i have been this time. I used to do sits up with dd1 on my tummy. She would laugh and laugh and laugh. Press ups with her lying underneath me were also a good one. I would lower myself down and touch her nose with mine. And, I would give my upper body a workout by lifting her up and down. I also used to time myself to see how quickly I could walk to the shops with the buggy. It's very hilly here so that was quite a work out. And I used to do exercise videos with her watching. Not ideal, but it was better than nothing. I really should be doing something now. I had lost all of the weight I put on, but over Xmas, it has sneaked back on. I think I will try these exercises tomorrow. If dd1 lets me that is!

Eulalia · 21/01/2006 19:37

Hello again.

DaF - good to hear you are enjoying work. Does your dd definately have chickenpox? None of my kids have ever had it yet.

hc- how is your dd now?

Belo - good to hear your dd has settled with the childminder.

Feeling a bit behind everyone here ... ds2 is still not on solids but his 6 month 'birthday' is not far off and I am holding out till then. dd had her first solids at 6 months and she was 17lbs then so quite a big baby. ds2 is certainly interested in food as he watches everything and grabs for things so he will definately be ready. oh and he's sitting up for short periods now.

mrsdarcy · 21/01/2006 21:19

Thanks Belo . You sound a tad more disciplined than me! I know I just need to buckle down though. Good luck on Monday.

Eulalia - we have only just started solids and DD is taking it all very slowly. She's had baby rice, and baby rice with a bit of butternut squash mixed in but only manages a couple of spoonfuls once a day. When I tried her with b'nut squash on its own she gagged and threw up, and did the same with sweet potato!

Last night I took her into my bed when I went to bed at about 11pm, but for the first time in ages I had an evening! So far she's been in her own bed asleep since about 7pm

latearrival · 21/01/2006 23:41

Mrs D - hope you've had a wonderful evening.

Belo - good luck with your return to work.

Dd and ds have had snotty noses for several days now. Dd couldn't go to her swimming class this week due to blocked nose .

So far dd has sucked on a the odd bit of apple that I've been eating and studies our every mouthful from her viewpoint in her bumbo on the dining table. Will probably start offering her solids in the next few days. Want her cold to ease a bit first.

Hope you all have a good night.

DiamondsAreForever · 22/01/2006 15:30

Hi all,
Chicklen pox update- ten spots on head, one on bottom and several threatening her chest and tummy, so it looks like the real deal. She has a bit of a temperature and is only taking a bit of mummy's marvellous sweet potato, carrot and turnip mush, which she has been enjoying all week, and was up quite a lot in the night crying, which is out of character. Looks like we are going to have a long old week!
Plus we are having to crack on with packing, so not the best timing in the world.
Anyway, good luck at work Belo, hope it flies by and you are back home in no time.
dd is one half on Thursday so we were going to have a six-monthiversary party next weekend but I suppose we'd better not now, just in case we give everyone the dreaded pox. At least it's not monkey pox cos then we'd all be in trouble.
x

webwoman05 · 23/01/2006 15:33

Hello there!

Long time no posting! I hardly seem to have time to catch up with mumsnet at the moment as life seems to be a bit full on currently. We had ds1's birthday and party just after Christmas and since the beginning of the year I have started weaning Harry. He seems to love everything and is addicted to Mums4 yoghurts! Harry still sleeps through the night and before you all shoot me has done so since quite a young age but the flip side is that he hardly ever sleeps in the day! I am finding it very difficult to keep on top of all the housework and laundry and of course find time for ds1 and of course DH! Perhaps things will get better when ds1 goes full time after Easter but I know I will really miss him. I take my hat off to all you mums with 2 or more children!

Have been trying to catch up on all your news and hope all babies and Mums with colds etc recover soon. Sorry to hear the dreaded chickenpox is doing the rounds. Fingers crossed we don't get that one as we have just booked a family holiday and the end of March to Florida. I have posted on the travel section for any advice on travelling with a then 8 month old baby so any tips from you very well-informed mums I would be truly grateful.

Oh one more thing - just wondered how many other mums are still breast feeding? The bf is still going well but Harry also has one bottle a day at least so quite handy if I have to leave him - he also seems to be bfeeding a lot less since the introduction of solids and as he is still sleeping through the night I guess he must be getting enough grub!

Take care. Look forward to trying to post more often and to catching up on everyone's news.

xx

Eulalia · 24/01/2006 10:18

DaF - hope the chickenpox is a fairly mild outbreak and your dd is better soon.

webwoman - to answer your questions. Yes am still breastfeeding (exclusively). Will start solids at end of the month when ds turns 6 months.

We took ds1 to Spain when he was 10 months and just took a fold up buggy which we also used to feed him in - it was quite easy to clean so didn't matter if it got a bit sticky. Also took a small food blender and a few bowls, spoons and feeding cups and that was about it. Didn't bother with travel cot as he slept in the buggy in the day time and used a normal bed at nights with pillows on either side to prevent him falling out.

Taking dd to to nurse today to get her dressing changed - she burned her arm quite badly on our stove. I think she's a bit old now for fireguards - 3.9. She's terrible for dancing about and being silly and was doing it on the hearth when it happened.

mrsdarcy · 24/01/2006 13:02

Oh, your poor DD, Eulalia. I hope her arm gets better soon.

DD is going ot be on TV tonight - on Granada between 6 - 6.30! They filmed her swimming lesson so I sincerely hope that any footage is of her and not of me in my saddo maternity swimsuit . There were quite a few other babies there but I'm really hoping we get to see her - it will make up for missing her photo shoot.

Webwoman - I'm still breastfeeding. We're doing just 1 meal a day as she isn't really getting very into the whole gloop thing. We're taking it v slowly.

Belo · 24/01/2006 13:19

Oh dear Eulalia. Your poor dd.

I'm still breastfeeding, but have reduced it to 3 time a day now I'm back at work. Morning, bedtime and 10.30pm. Yesterday was my first day without the afternoon feed. It was soooo painful.

DD2 is havign 3 meals a day and never seems to be full. She takes after her mother and loves her food. We're following, almost to the word, the Annabel Karmel book as I've got no imagination/brain of my own at the moment. We started dd2 on solids at 5 1/2 months as she was so miserable. It definitely has turned her into a happier baby. I was planning on waiting until 6 months.

As to holiday, we've got a blowup inflatable booster seat which is really nice for when you go out for a meal as baby is at the same hight as you and, and can be entertained easier. Another thing that we found useful is travel steriliser bags from Mothercare.

Belo · 24/01/2006 13:19

MrsD, I wouldn't let a camera within in a million miles of me in my swimsuit

muma3 · 24/01/2006 13:20
