Hi All, I thought I'd start a new 2006 thread for the October 2004 Mummies and Babies.

We are getting married on the 6th may, not too long now, still havent got everything organised. oh well still a bit more time to go!

KathH · 05/02/2006 18:27

Been let out again for the afternoon - thanks for all your messages! Moley has been a desperate flirt with the nurses in hospital. He has to have antibiotics by iv drip everyday & hates it - he managed to unattach himself from his drip yesterday. He's been really good considering what he's been through. The nurses told me that the lumbar puncture is awful for babies.

We all have to have antibiotics as a precaution as does everyone at childminders. she was brill, he was in a & e 20 mins after starting fittingm it lasted about 30 mins which made them suspect meningitis . he looked awful when i got there, luckily i only work round the corner from hospital, he was still fitting and was all wired up and they were cutting his little vest open, his heart rate was about 230 per min.

Riebee · 05/02/2006 18:29

Hi all

Well fingers crossed my internet is fully sorted now..spoke too soon last time.

Sorry to hear about the poorly babes, hope they are all fully recovered.

Sending labour vibes to hotmama.

Things ticking on here. Chimpy has his mmr on Thurs. Looking forward to it even less after watching Judge John Deed on Fri where a they questioned whether the mmr could have caused a baby to die....not good viewing pre vaccination day.
The chimpster is walking lovely now and I am hoping it might encourage him to sleep through the night as we are yet to achieve this lovely state of bliss. He is still sleeping in with us but we are submitting plans for our extension this week so hopefully we will have another bedroom this summer to hide in.

Jbad & cazzy ...I hope your wedding plans are progressing nicely. Its my 2nd anniversary in Feb and I love remembering the exciting build up of the last few weeks. I shall be extracting my dress from storage and be prancing around in it for a while on the 21st to bring back the memories.

IslaAndMomma · 05/02/2006 18:38

I've been using reins with Isla from about 10/11 months. She's now starting to get cross that I'm in control of her tho! At we always have a struggle if we go far and I want to then put her in the buggy. She get's excited if a dog comes to investigate too

Took her out to a friend's on her little bike (with handle to push her along). She loved it. Plan didnt quite work tho as she fell asleep round friend's house on the dog's bed. So i had to leg it home to get her buggy (didnt have the heart to wake her).

good luck for the wedding plans!

and riebee, good luck with the mmr. i was dreading taking Isla but she was really good

really pleased to hear that little Moley is doing well

maisiemog · 05/02/2006 20:36

Hi again Riebee, I know how you feel, we have had a few false starts with the internet, but I think we're sorted now.
DP is currently walking up and down the hall with Alfie, who is super hyper-active with tiredness. He went to bed at 7 then woke up at 8 because he had done poops. Now he is refusing to settle, he's still got a sore ear and it's all our fault.
He's driving me up the wall at the moment, so DP has stepped in before I throw Alfie out of the window.
I think the sleep deprivation/funeral/extra work etc... is starting to kick in.
I think DP and I need a nice meal away from babies. Valentines might be nice.

maisiemog · 05/02/2006 20:38

Kath, I'm glad to hear that Moley is on the mend. Alfie likes the ladies as well and is a giant flirt. Those girls better watch out.
I hope you are getting a bit more sleep.

OP posts:
biglips · 05/02/2006 20:43

same here as baba lurrvveeeessss flirting with men - Hmmmmmm!!!!

IslaAndMomma · 05/02/2006 20:57

awww masie sorry to hear you're having a bad evening - hope Alfie settles for you soon.

i did speak too soon - having a bad time trying to get Isla to settle too (my own fault for being too sure I guess). can hear her upstairs making a fuss every few minutes ...

dp keeps putting his head round the door to try and reassure her but as soon as he leaves the room she winds it up again! i think we might have some more toofypegs on the way tho.

maisiemog · 05/02/2006 23:20

Well Alfie just stopped crying, I put him back to bed around 10 to 11 after he did two more poops. It was like, "What's that smell? Not again!" oh no! I think the penicillin is giving him the runs.
He was just running up and down the room for two hours, didn't want to go to bed.
The GP gave us calpol, because he wanted us to give Alf paracetamol, but we would normally give him Medised, if anything. So I gave him Calpol, and he went crazy, it could be the antibiotics.
I was reading that one of the additives in Calpol: carmoisine can cause hyperactivity in some children and is banned in lots of countries.
I don't know if I would give him Calpol at bedtime again.

Thanks girls for your labour vibes - but unfortunately I am still here - now 8 days overdue. Dd1 was 9 days overdue - but I was in labour for 3 days! [ouch]

I am booked in to be induced on Thurs if nothing has happened before - so keep sending me some more labour vibes.

I have started a thread re inductions and pain relief - so if anyone has been induced I would like to have your twopenneth!

KathH - hugs to moley - how scarey - hope everything is on the mend.

Hope you are all doing O.K. - will post when I have anything to report.

maisiemog · 06/02/2006 11:52

Hi Hotmama stick in there, you'll look back and laugh - in about ten years.
Are you getting tense? It must be a pain, but maybe there's a way you could relax, like book a head and shoulder massage or a sauna. I think tension can hold things up a bit.
I wasn't fully induced, but I had a taster of the whole thing.
I think I kind of started my labour in a way, because I got up in the morning, and went for a wee, but couldn't, so I kind of lifted up the lower part of my bump, to try and take the pressure off, and there was a kind of pop. Then 5 minutes later my water's broke.
Mind you I didn't pee again for two days because I had a massive fibroid, which blocked everything, including Alf - so make sure you are peeing, it can block the baby's path if your bladder gets too full.
Then I went shopping to buy a mattress and stuff like that.
Have you been out much? Walking around? Shopping?
The hospital were going to induce me, because they thought I hadn't gone into labour, when I had, in fact, been through the whole thing, but the fibroid was in the way.
They put oxytocinon (sp?) in my hand and they agreed that I could have an epidural, because I had read that inducement was more intense and painful. Obviously I didn't get and epidural because I was fully dilated, but they still gave me the oxytocinon to get the contractions started for the final push.
I hadn't really had that much pain before, but I did get bad pains in my back the minute they started the drip. I don't know if they were related, but it was bloody sore. I had gas and air, and the whole thing only took around 30 minutes, but I don't know if it would be bearable for a long time, if there is no pain relief, like and epidural or similar.
I was 18 days late, and I was an advanced baby (what happened) crawling, walking and talking early and climbing everything at 10 months. Personally I would be inclined to wait and go au natural, are they concerned your dd isn't growing or something? Have you had a scan to see what's happening?
I read that due dates are an estimate, it could be that you aren't due for another couple of days in reality.

hotmama - i was induced when i was 12 days overdue as i was so knackered carrying baba (she was 9lb 1oz) so i went in and was given diomorphine at 10am thurs, it didnt agree with me at all as i was violenty sick even the midwives was shocked too (plus i threw up all over dps jeans and leather jacket!! ) i just couldnt stop!!!.. they broke my water @ 5pm and the contractions started at 10pm thurs... was in labour and the contractions were so powerful as im a wimp on pain!!! (next time im gonna ask for epidural as soon i set my foot on the hossy). i was so knackered and they let me sleep for 2 hours before starting again...the midwife asked me to start pushing the baba out, i had no urge need to push...... little realising that babas head was engaged (since i was 36 weeks pg) but instead of baba looking straight ahead, she was facing left and she was back to back (midwife didnt know that baba was back to back as i also had a transverse pg too).. ended up having a emergency c-section after 17 hrs as baba starting to be in distress.

so now she is here and a bonny girl - 28lbs 10oz (weighed 2 weeks ago!!!)

biglips · 06/02/2006 13:10

people had told me that induction make contractions more painful (as it forcing the baba out) so next time im gonna hang on as long as i can as you can holdon till 43 weeks or maybe longer - depends what the midwife/doc say

biglips · 06/02/2006 13:12

i gave birth at 12.09pm fri 1st october 2004

biglips · 06/02/2006 13:32

oh forgot i had gas & air for 15 hours before i decided to have the epidural, the pain was surreal for me but it hadnt put me off at all as it took my a year to remember everything of whats happened as i couldnt remember anything apart from nearly breaking Dps arm!!! oops!!!

hotmama · 06/02/2006 16:19

Thanks for your advice - still here though!

IslaAndMomma · 06/02/2006 22:53

Hang in there hotmama!

I didnt have an induction but was booked in for one. Waters broke on 27th Oct and altho contractions started I didnt go in to full labour. Contractions were on and off but I went into labour on 30th Nov (whilst watching Raquel in labour on Only Fools and Horses Halloween Special! - was a bit surreal!! Had to have c-section after 19 hours of labour as baba got her shoulders wedged as she tried to turn and wasnt progressing - plus I was far too knackered by then to do anything anyway. Isla was delivered noon on 31st Oct (so only just made this thread!)

hhheeeelllllooooooo rickman!!!!

we were all wondering where you got off to?

maisiemog · 07/02/2006 00:10

Hi Rickman are you still co-sleeping? How's the little breakdancing boy?

OP posts:
hotmama · 07/02/2006 08:34

Hello Rickman, and thanks for the vibes.

Still here though, so have got 2 days to get things moving naturally before being induced. I think I have tried everything now - so all I have left is doing some starjumps - this will not be pretty!

huppa · 07/02/2006 10:23

Wow - so much to catch up on.

Hotmama - The midwives here in Germany highly recommend a mixture of castor oil, peach juice and sparkling wine to get labour going. Sounds disgusting and I didn´t need it - in fact I don´t know anyone who has actually tried it, so I wouldn´t go for it unless you´re extremely brave/desperate. I imagine you might feel like this (sick) if you do.

KathH - sorry to hear about ds, it must have been terrifying at the time. Hope he´s feeling better soon.

jbadgirl -hope your ds is also on the mend. I´m glad your collegues are so supportive, it must make a huge difference.

Hello to everyone else. I haven´t posted for ages. Not really much happening here. Ds has entered a climbing phase at the moment and now moves furniture around to help him in his quest to climb even higher. He´s still not speaking, but as both dh and my brother didn´t start speaking until they were 3 I´m not holding my breath.

maisiemog · 07/02/2006 10:53

Hi Huppa, that sounds yummy.
Hotmama look at this thread, you may get some non-castor oil related ideas. Herbalism and walking seem popular. I dont suppose you live near a Chinese medicine place?
Huppa, my ds is climbing too, and using extremely precarious items of furniture to stand on.
He is still babbling away, says mumum and dadad and ta. I have no idea about anything else he is saying. He is pretty clueless about signing as well, he can say 'finished' and maybe 'eat', but I'm not sure if he is just checking his teeth.
Apparently the whole communication part of the brain is linked, so if a baby is slow-maturing in speech they will be slow in signing as well.
I think there is an element of being a boy in there as well, as he is fixated on any spacial stuff - spend hours balancing things, putting in, taking out, shape sorting all that stuff. Very male/female divide appearing.
I thought he might take after me, as supposedly I was an early talker and never stopped - as you can tell by my massive posts.
But DP was a late talker according to his dad, so I reckon Alf is favouring his dad.
Mind you DP bumshuffled for months and Alfie only ever crawled, like his mummy. That's my boy.

OP posts:
maisiemog · 07/02/2006 10:56

I meant to ask how you guys are finding the whole interaction with other babies thing?
Alfie is mixing with other babies and hugging all the girls for some reason, but he sometimes pokes other babies in the eye.
It all starts off well, as if he is going to pat them, then he goes off course and pokes them.
I see a kind of startled look on the faces of other parents and I kind of smile and say 'sorry' although I don't know if I should.
Some mums seem very protective, whereas I am so far very hands off and prefer to let him explore and experience things for himself.
It's quite a hard balance.
How do you find it?
