what have u won?

Miaou · 05/02/2006 17:06

I've won tickets to the National Squash Championships! Dh is over the moon - he used to be a squash coach and in fact taught some of the players who will be there when they were about 5 years old!!

wow thats brilliant well done

Hiya. ds2 is 6 months now and I started him on solids on Wed. He's only 14.11lbs but seems ready for it - reaching out for food etc. Just wondering of those who started solids here how quickly they got them onto 3 meals a day and how much they eat per meal? Thanks.

Miaou · 05/02/2006 20:53

Eulalia - do two weeks on one meal, two weeks on two then onto three meals. I did it too fast and ds wolfed down the food but cut back on his milk intake - then I ended up feeding him during the night!! So keep an eye on his milk consumption too - that shouldn't change for now.

dd is only feeding twice breakfast and dinner but she isnt 6 months yet i had to start her off early, dinner is one ice cube of something mixed with some baby rice and milk, she does eat alot at tea time though, like maiou i had given her lunch a couple of days as well and i had to feed her in the middle of the night just once though and that was enough for me to cut back.

can i ask those with older children, does your red book get kept by the health visitor once they have had there 5year old check, i was wondering what on earth i have done with ds's and i have a vauge memory that they kept it, before i make a full of myself by asking them or tearing my house upside down, thanks

kate100 · 06/02/2006 14:09

DS2 can sit up by himself now, I'm very proud. I think that he has been able to fpr sometime, but he doesn't like it, anyway, yesterday I pulled him into a sitting position on his changing table and he carries on sitting there all by himslef. It's a good job that he can as I cannot cram him into his infant carrier anymore (and I bought the biggest one there is) so he can go into a forward facing seat as he's also now over 9kg. He seems to be growing up so fast, much quicker than ds1 did, but maybe that's because I know he's my last baby.

I did one meal for a few weeks and then added another meal after a few weeks, then another. I did dinner first, then lunch and then breakfast last. He has quite alot now, but he is much bigger than your ds, about half a weaning pot full and usually a yoghurt of a yoghurt sized portion of fruit too.

Miaou · 06/02/2006 16:46

Josey I have still got red books for dd1 and dd2 - they write in them when they have their jabs etc. Maybe yours got lost ?

OP posts:
Eulalia · 06/02/2006 16:50

Thanks - I've been doing it middle of the day about 2ish but he's hardly taking anything as he spits a lot out. Only thing he likes so far is pear and baby rice but its early days yet. I am delaying wheat for a month or so,and no dairy for a year like I did with dd as I have slight skin allergies (could be nothing to do with food though).

josey - I still have my red book for ds1 6 years old - never heard anything about it being taken back. Sounds like you've probably lost it.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 06/02/2006 16:55

Eulalia- I'm so glad you posted the weight of your DS. Caitlin's the same weight, and I felt like she was so small compared to everyone else's baby.

All of us are still sick here. She's up at 1 and 5 pretty much on the dot every night. She's not eating very well, and I think she's quite hungry and can't make it through. DH and I both think she's teething quite badly, also.

She managed to sit on her own for about 30-45 seconds several times the past few days.

josey · 06/02/2006 17:36

thanks guys at least i know i have put it somewhere silly i will just have to look harder for it, knowing DH it is in the loft!!!!!

Azure · 06/02/2006 20:14

DS2 is now on 3 meals a day - around 8am (depending on when he had his milk), after the 11/11.30am bottle and at around 5pm. He has around 3 cubes per meal. I'm still breastfeeding the morning and evening feeds, but the rest are bottles (including up to two at night, unfortunately - he always wakes at least twice and sometimes can be settled without a feed, but rarely for long). My concern apart from the night feeds is that he only takes around 3oz at each of the 11/11.30am and 2/2.30pm - bottles - surely this is not enough. I'm going to drop the remaining breastfeeds soon but worry he'll wake up even more at night.

Azure · 06/02/2006 20:17

Oh, and I've decided on my return to work date - April 27th. This is later than they hoped but means I'll be off with DS1 for the Easter school holidays (and which I'll probably be desparate to go back!). I was in the office today, though, to sort out an urgent matter and it felt like I had been there yesterday, rather than away for 6 months. I haven't yet heard about whether I can go back 4 days / week, though.

Twiga · 07/02/2006 00:34

Hi all, sorry it's been a while been busy pre-paring for our temp move to Dumfries - we're off thurs morning first thing. Dh is on nights at the mo which means I'm trying to get us organised as well as entertain, feed and change dd who unfortunately has been off colour. Dd is just coming up 21 weeks and is doing great, she's still 100% bf and I'm hoping we'll make it to 6 months - planning on buying a high chair once we've moved as she loved using the one at my PIL when we visited a couple of weeks ago, think she enjoyed being up at the table and in the thick of things during meal times. Hoping a high chair will help entertain so I can do things like the dishes with her next to me - easier to communicate when shes at eye level and not on the floor! Dd has been sitting unaided for the last couple of weeks and has really got the hang of correcting her balance is she wobbles, still keep an eye on her though just in case. On saturday she finally rolled the whole way and got her arm clear - she's been wobbling onto her side for ages but just couldn't work out how to get round the last bit - we were so chuffed to actually see this as we were convinced she'd finally manage at a time when our backs were turned. Very nervous about the move and am worried that it will unsettle dd a little, feel sad that there won't be so many people around to fuss over her but I guess we'll soon meet people and find our feet. Better get to bed - been up chatting to a dear friend on the tel who's due on Weds and a bit of an insomniac due to bump etc. Will try and read down the thread and catch up soon, hope everyone is doing well

Azure · 07/02/2006 14:16

Hi Twiga, sounds like DD is getting on really well. Best of luck for your move this week. I'm sure DD will be fine about it.

suzi2 · 07/02/2006 20:04

Hi all -haven't been on in ages as things are a bit manic here. We're moving house on Friday so it's mayhem! Besides, DS is waking ALL the time again. I was up 8 times last night with his crying trying to settle him.

DS is 6 months old now and he has tried some cooked carrot sticks and ricecakes (babyled approach) and he did not bad. Ate a very tiny amount and gagged a lot! My mum insisted we tried him with a jar of apple & pear puree too. He hates it. Closes his mouth to the spoon and pulls the funniest faces if any goes in! Might try him on some carrot sticks again soon as he seemed to prefer them.

He's sitting very well unaided. Can manage minutes and correct himself if he topples (most of the time!). I still have a ring of cushions around him as if the cat walks past he gets over excited and topples! He still hasn't rolled and seems to have no intention of doing it. He's great with his hands though and mouths everything he can find. He even tries to eat the wall at the swimming pool if we get too close!

Anyway, hope all the babes are doing well. Have we got any crawlers yet??? I'll probably be offline very soon for a wee while so hope everyone is well and you all take good care of yourselves and your familys.

Eulalia · 08/02/2006 10:15

Thanks for the responses.

C&CM - when was your dd born? My ds must be older and hence smaller also boys are supposed to be bigger! My dd was the bigger than both my boys. Your dd may catch up though - my first ds was always small but is very tall now. It's easier to carry a small baby though!

Miaou · 08/02/2006 16:01

All the best suzi and twiga for your moves! We moved house when dd1 was 6 months old. She had a set of three brightly coloured painted plates above her cot, and the first thing I did when we moved was hang these plates above her cot in the same position. Don't know if it made a difference but she adapted to the move no problem

Ds will sit for a second or two, but can't self-correct so I tend to sit with him and catch him! He does like it though. He still doesn't reach out with his hands though which I am trying not to get concerned about yet as it's the only thing he's a bit slow to do - he can roll ok and bats things on his babygym.

I met up in town today with a group of friends with babies - there are only three weeks between the five of them and the range of development is amazing - really serves to remind us just how different babies are from one another and all develop at their own rate.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 08/02/2006 16:30

She was born on Aug. 27th. IIRC, your DS is about a month older? I'm not really worried about her weight, she has such nice little rolls and a beautiful double chin, it is just nice to see someone's baby with a weight around mine.

kate100 · 08/02/2006 20:09

Miaou, I wouldn't worry about the grabbing things, I sometimes wish DS didn't. I put him in his activity centre went into the kitchen, came back and he was chewing the curtain!!

Must go, I'm dying my hair and my time's up, I don't want my hair to fall out

josey · 08/02/2006 21:04

good luck for the moves girls, dont envy you!!

I went to see my friend whos baby is 4weeks older than DD today, and wow what a difference, she has got so big, and my dd was always bigger, plus she is sitting up and has so much more body control, it is amasing what a month makes at this age.

C&Cmommy I took my dd to be weighed last week and she was 17lb5oz she was born the 30th Aug, the month before she was 15lb12oz i think that is a healthy enough gain, but the health visitor started to question me about how much she was eating was she eating enough!!!! i was waiting to tell me i was going on the too watch register she was awful!! like you say your dd is healthy and chubby with lovely rolls and chins, so i wouldnt worry,we are all different from each other so our babies are bound to be too, its just so easy to want them to be the same as everyone elses so you think they are ok well thats the way i think sometimes.

DD managed to floor walk yesterday she pushed down on her feet and pushed back and bounced all the way off her changing mat, i just watched in stunned silence.she must have managed about 3 feet

hope you dont loose you hair Kate

Eulalia · 09/02/2006 13:59

Yep he is July 29th so about a month older. He's not as chubby as dd was (she was 17lbs at 6 months) but he looks OK. Off to give him some solids now.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 09/02/2006 15:53

Well after going to the dr yesterday, I've discovered that one of us has a sinus infection and an ear infection that is so bad the dr. thinks there's a good chance it will burst in the next day or so. And I'll give you a hint even, it isn't one of my children or DH.

Miaou · 09/02/2006 16:58

ouch c&cmommy!!!

I finally got ds weighed today! He is 16lb 8 oz and has nicely settled just under the 25th centile. HV quite happy with him

OP posts:
pookey · 10/02/2006 18:11

Hi everyone

C&CMommy hope it all clears up soon x

wow josey she is practically crawling!

I am debating whether or not to continue breastfeeding, I gave ds a bottle of ebm before lunch with some gaviscon in and he slept for 2 1/2 hours also I keep getting mastitis and thrush and what not and am starting back at work in March, really want to breatfeed for longer though (need a [puzzled] emoticon here).

Suzi we are trying baby led weaning, so far he has had a good suck on carrots & rice cakes, put green beans in his mouth and not been at all interested in sweet potato. I have given him baby rice twice though, but let him play with the spoon, he spits most of it back out but opens his mouth like a little bird! BLW is actually quite a faff I think compared to warming some frozen stuff?

Miaou def wouldn't be worried, a friend reckons when they reach milestones has a lot to do with personality, maybe he is just really content - which sounds like a good thing
