my ds was a sicky one too....only settled down when i started weaning. it used to have me in tears at times, i just never came across such a sicky child before and my HV just kept repeating her mantra of 'some babies are sickier than others'
he tends to get sicky again when he is really teething, i think the extra saliva upsets his tummy, but have found the teething powders work wonders for that.
ds has suddenly upped his milk intake again.....he is totally draining a 9oz bottle at bedtime and is having roughly 18 oz during the day along with three fairly substantial meals.
i am at the dentist tomorrow for the first time in many years and i'm SO nervous......i don't think i'll sleep tonight. in fact i feel sick already at the thought of it.
hope all is well everyone!!

bramblina · 20/04/2006 21:53

I'm glad you say that qr as ds was sick twice today, and yesterday. I didn't know it was associated with teething till I read the powder's instructions. Glad we're not alone! The forth one is lurking there somewhere. When I saw it today, it reminded me very quickly how that used to be the norm, and I had almost forgotten it.

queenrollo · 21/04/2006 09:01

i only really noticed his sickyness had settled down when i wasn't washing loads of muslins at the end of every day! i never wanted to go visiting in the early days because i was so embarassed at just how much vomit he produced, and people were quite shocked by it. i just kept telling them to count themselves lucky their babies were never like it.
well i slept surprisingly well last night but my tummy is doing somersaults this morning......i'm now regretting my bravado at registering with the dentist........and thoroughly embarrassed about the state of my mouth, i keep telling myself the dentist will have seen worse!!

queenrollo · 21/04/2006 18:06

went well at the dentist.....felt the panic rising in the waiting room but did my deep breathing and contained it. got some funny looks off the other patients!! i need to have one tooth pulled and some major treatment for my gums......but i kind of knew that anyway Blush
the dentist was very gentle with me and has offered to give me some hypnosis for the extraction.
i feel much better now, it's a hurdle i'm glad to have cleared. my bank account is crying though...........Sad

bramblina · 21/04/2006 21:20

But isn't it free for the 1st yr following the birth?! Tell me it is! I haven't been yet!

Miaou · 21/04/2006 21:31

Hiya chaps. Hello bramblina, you're almost local to me!!

Ds is doing fabulously - he is gorgeous. He sits nicely and moves around a bit - but only by wriggling around a lot on his back! He can roll but doesn't often, and has no teeth yet! No words yet either. He played peek-a-boo with the duvet cover this morning, much to our delight. Hasn't managed to get on his hands and knees yet. He adores his sisters and loves looking at his reflection in the mirror Grin - typical man

bramblina.....yes it is free.....but there is not a single dentist for 60 miles taking on NHS patients so i have had no choice but to go private. we will have to forfeit lots of things for me to have this treatment.
today's check up, one extraction and three hygienist appointments is setting me back £240. i can register ds....they will start seeing him form about the age of two, everything is free until he turns three then he only gets free check-ups.....we will have to pay for any treatment he needs. Angry

bramblina · 21/04/2006 22:17

Oh crikey Shock

Azure · 22/04/2006 19:38

DS2 finally seems to have got the idea of sitting up for more than a nanosecond. As it was such nice weather here we sat in the garden for the first time and he even went in the sandpit, which he enjoyed (though was a little suspicious). No teeth, though.

I really must look into going to the dentist. I'm sure there's no chance at all of an NHS one.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 22/04/2006 19:48

Hi all. Hi new people. Been reading everything, kinda difficult to keep up. Caitlin's got 3 teeth in the past 2 weeks, so really cranky. Still selling on e-bay. We've been really busy trying to get our house ready to sell. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but there's a chance that we might be headed back to the big city (woo-hoo). Otherwise we'll just buy a bigger house around here, which is exciting but not as exciting. Even better DS (born Aug 2003) is doing really well at potty training.

bramblina · 22/04/2006 21:53

Azure, does he like to go on his front though? My ds has been sitting for just over 2 months but can't bear to be on his front. My friend's ds is the complete opposit though. I'm wondering if it's an indication of them crawling or not. I'm sure ds will not crawl, he loves to stand for ages.
He clapped his hands today! I am so proud!

josey · 23/04/2006 20:29

hi all
DD sat up by herself for a long time today and managed to balance herself when she wobbled, she then managed to get into the crawl posistion but when she went to move forward she fell flat on her face. still no teeth so glad to hear others are the same.
she has discovered the joys of swings and squeals with delight when she is on them, its a novilty for me as my ds seems to have a phobia of swings i have no idea why he screamed his head off the 1st time he ever went on one and has done ever since.
I was visiting my friend who is 37 weeks preg, she is in hospital with that liver condition which makes you really itchy so she is being started in the morning, it made me really broody being in the maternity unit again DH is freaking!!
im starting back to work on Tuesday aint have nervous sure i will get into the swing of things can only hope!

panicpants · 23/04/2006 20:35

Our ds is sitting unaided and likes to be on his front, but always rolls over onto his back. He can nearly roll back over onto his front but can't quite get over that pesky arm.
He shuffles about and goes up onto his hands but not knees yet.
He's got 2 bottom teeth, and I think all 4 top teeth are coming through together.

Have you lo's had their 6-9month check yet? The hv seem surprised that ds couldn't get up on his hands and knees, or crawl yet Shock

pookey · 23/04/2006 23:16

Hi all :)

Hi Panicpants my ds hasen't gone on to his hands and knees yet either, on the other hand he did cut a tooth on fri (while i was at work :( )and today he has been waving.

Had my episiotemy restitched, ended up with a different consultant who said only surface stuff needed redoing so ended up a lot better of than if I had had the op done by original surgeon not too painful at all Grin washing like mad to keep it clean and doing lots of air drying Blush

Thinking about ttc late this year or next year - i want spring baby! Must be mad to even think about it as ds still waking 3-4 times - anyone else still bf at night?

love to you all

panicpants · 24/04/2006 10:17

Oh pookey that sounds painful - am wincing for you!

We've just started to think about another one too! Yes, must be mad. Thought we'd wait until he was a year and then just see what happens.

Sad at you being at work when he cut his first tooth. I'm due back in september (full time - wasn't allowed to go back part time :() and i'm already dreading it.

josey · 24/04/2006 12:01

panicpants my dd hasnt had a check since her 6weeks, the last time i took her to get weighed the hv said thats fine the next time we will see you is at a year old and i will come to the house, i have no worries about her progess if i have i will take her.
my dd has no interest in crawling even though ended up in crawl position which was a complete accident!!!
oo pooky tears to the eyes - you keep the air circulating girl Grin
im dreading going back to work as i know it will be my mil that will find dds first tooth or she will do new things for.
would love to ttc later this year though doubt we will get round to it till next year at the earliest

kate100 · 24/04/2006 13:34

Hi all, my little chap has cut three teeth this week, so has been properly grumpy for the past week or so, but he does look very cute with his gappy top teeth. He's also crawling everywhere, he's such a determined little thing that there is no stopping him, put him down and he's away. Now that he's crawling he's starting to lose his chubby little legs. He's also got the hang of his juice cup and swigs away from it like a pint, very sweet.

Had a much better week as the bathroom is starting to be fixed and we are more hopeful about the business, my Nanny is still not very well, but there's nothing I can do about that.

Pookey, hope that you are recovering well

Josey, my ds2 loves the swing too, but so did ds1. Good luck back at work tomorrow, DS1 cut his first tooth on my first day back at work Sad

C&Cmommy, good luck wit the potty training, I did ds2 (born July '03) in February and he did really well, pretty much clean and dry in 10 days and has only had a few accidents since. My advice would be leave the nappies off and only stray about 10 paces from the potty!!! Grin Hope he gets the hang of it soon, life is much easier with out 2 lots of nappies to change.

suzi2 · 24/04/2006 20:45

Pookey - I'm still bf at night most nights. But I limit it to just once. Other times he gets his dummy back and usually settles. We're letting nature take its course since my af arrived back a couple of weeks ago. I think we must be mad!

DS is 8.5 months now. he's been getting on hands and knees and rocking for ages now but has since learned to roll onto his back. he hates being on his back but can't roll back over! He sits well and pulls himself onto his tummy. he's desperately trying to pull himself to standing and is almost there. But for now I have to help him up and stand him at the sofa to cruise it. I have to sit with hands t the ready to catch him when he overstretches. It's driving me daft as we spend ages at the sofa each day.

He still hasn't got any teeth but has been having trouble with them lately. He's tonguing something at the top right. DH thinks he's getting fangs! He babbles loads the last few weeks. Mamma was the first Grin and now wa wa na na and an occasional ba and da. It starts as proper sounds and then he gets lazy and just makes a noise. Fab though as he changes the tone and things so it sounds 'real'!

I'm really enjoying him at the moment Grin

panicpants · 24/04/2006 20:49

Suzi2 how sweet spending ages rocking, and pulling himself up on the sofa - wow! My ds was born on the 27th of aug, so is a baby baby iyswim.

suzi2 · 24/04/2006 21:29

Does anyone else think we're due a new thread soon? Grin

Azure · 25/04/2006 14:11

Bramblina, DS2 actually hates being on his front. His brother was the same, although sat up unaided earlier. He started to crawl at 9/10 months but was walking at 11.5 months. DS2 seems more of a babbler, so perhaps he'll be an early talker / late walker, the opposite of DS1.

Pookey, poor you. I hope this is the last of your childbirth problems.

Josey, hope work went ok. I think I've found a nanny (again) and am due back next Thursday. I feel very depressed about it now, as the reality has dawned. Still no word about whether I can return 4 days (I spoke to my boss this morning but it's out of his hands).

Suzi2 good idea about the new thread - I'll start one.
