Hi everyone, can I join your club? I only discovered MN when ds was 6 weeks old and have only just found the post natal clubs! He was born on the 4th August.

Miaou · 08/04/2006 22:19

Hello bramblina, welcome!! Hi everyone, haven't posted on here for aaages. Congrats on the job Josey.

Ds has finally got the hang of finger food - hooray! Dd2 made some breadsticks yesterday and he loves chomping on them - before he just used to stare at food put on his tray as if he expected it to jump into his mouth!!

I put him on his tummy this evening and his little legs were going ... he seems to have got the idea that it is possible to move oneself but not exactly how ... the four of us were cheering him on (which may have put him off, I suppose Grin)

He has also said his first word - we have finally decided it is not random noises because he does it everytime - we say "hello" to him and he says "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhlooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh" back to us - soooo cute!

Anyone else ttc again (or thinking of it?) Still no periods here - argh - so looks like it'll be a while yet for me (not that I'm impatient or anything Wink)

hello bramblina - please do join then i won't feel so new myself!
not ttc just yet - enjoying ds too much to consider another!

bramblina · 09/04/2006 09:26

Hi!
Thanks, was feeling a bit of a loner on MN.
Miaou i've read in the last thread you're in Fort William, (I got the pic of your lo- gorgeous!) dh lived there from 1980-1990. We're in Gairloch now.
On the ttc topic, we're talking about it for this time next year but agree with kipper22, enjoying this little fella too much. Thought I'd have them really close together but couldn't bear to have to compromise my time with him. Same reason for not going back to work but THE job I would want has just come available here, and I really want it, but in 4 year's time! That's my dilemmna for today...

kipper22 · 09/04/2006 17:43

sorry - seem to be taking up the thread tody! - but I just realised Charlie is 8 months old today! Can't believe it! :)

josey · 09/04/2006 21:55

thanks miaou

welcome bramblina im in ross-shire as well bout 10 miles from Dingwall

queenrollo · 10/04/2006 08:41

hi all

ds did his first proper crawl this morning.....moved about 4 'steps' then got over excited that he was getting near to the cat and flopped onto his belly. on saturday he figured out he can clap his hands.....and he's quite vocal, his favourite things to say are dadda and aggy (our cat's name)....not sure if he is saying it deliberately as he says dadda all the time but aggy is definitely reserved for when he sees the cat.
i have taken the plunge and registered at a dentist, i've had terrible toothache and so i have to conquer my fear because my gums have just got worse since being pg and i'm worried now that i might lose some teeth because of it. the dentist is an old school friend of dp's, has just returned to the area so i trust him to be gentle with me. mind you it was painful on my pocket, £60 to register and £95 for my first appointment/assesment to see which level of Denplan i need. we can't really afford it so will have to seriously economise. to be honest i feel very embarrassed at the state my mouth is in......Blush
well off i go.......time to amuse ds

kate100 · 10/04/2006 08:52

I'm having a terrible time, you know how they say things come in three's? Well mine seem to be coming in 10's! In no particular order....
DS1 has a hernia and has to have an operation, with his fear od doctors and hospitals that's not going to be fun for anyone
2 of dh's staff are sisters and their brother has been killed in a it and run
My Nanny is in hospital and it looks like it might be her time soon
My brother has pneumonia
Dh is having trouble getting a new lease on his shop and we may lose the business
I've reversed my car into a post
My sink is leaking in the upstairs bathroom and my hall ceiling is now full of holes
Sad Is anything else going to go wrong as I think that's quite enough for one person Sad

Right moan over, I am going to be more positive this week.

Ds2 has definitely mastered crawling much to ds1's distress as now he can get to his toys and there are constant shrieks of 'No, Ben, that's mine!' I feel for him as I feel like saying it to ds2 myself at times. DS2 has also started to make a new sound, he now says 'bob-bob-bob-bob-bob-bob' over and over again.

Miaou, no more babies in this household, I think I've got more than enought to be going on with Smile

queenrollo · 10/04/2006 09:53

kate......you are having a right old time of it aren't you? i can't do anything to help but i'm thinking of you and hoping it all takes an upturn soon.
have been in a similar position as regards the lease, but for us it was a blessing in disguise (we decided not to renew and close the business), but we were in a position to do it. it was still very scary though. what sort of business is it?

kate100 · 10/04/2006 13:06

Feeling a bit better now, the leak is fixed and my Nanny is out of hospital.

The story of the lease is a long one... Currently DH part owns a pharmacy and we're in the process of buying out his partner, to guarantee the finance we need to have 5 year lease and the council won't grant a new lease until November. If they don't then we will have to sell the business and we'll end up with less tha we out in after solicitors bills etc. The most annoying part was that in January we were told that a letter from the council stating that they intened to renew the lease would be fine and now the git that told us that has changed his sodding mind... we are not pleased Angry

Still, I can't complain too much, my little chaps are thriving. DS2 has definitely got the hang of finger food, as a morning snack he tucked into my loyalty card for the hairdressers and is currently tucking into the Mothercare catalogue, yum!

kate100 · 10/04/2006 13:07

Sorry, completely forgot to say welcome to Branblina in both my posts... sorry Blush

Tigerlion · 10/04/2006 19:40

Kate, so sorry to hear of all those things going on at the moment but glad that some of them are sorting themselves out. All finger foods that I try to feed DS make him cfough which terrifies me as I would not know what to do if he choked. Trying to look for a First Aid course in London that does not cost a fortune. Surely they should be offered for free as it is so important to know what to do with LOs in case of emergencies.

Miaou we decided that we were going to TTC a few months ago and the result is that I am now 3 months' pg. We did not expect it to happen so fast but are absolutely delighted. However, I realise that I am going to be experiencing far more peace now with DS (as if I can even call it that!) than when he is joined by his sibling in October. Terrifying thought...!
By the way, we are going on holiday soon and I wanted to get a lightweight pushchair as our one is far too bulky to take along with us. I did a lot of research to find the cheapest and lightest one possible and I am now the proud owner of a blue dot Scallywags pushchair from Woolworths that cost me all of £15 and weighs less than 4kg. It is fantastic and so lovely and light. Just in case anyone else is looking for a holiday mode of transport for LO. Does anyone have any tips for sun lotion for babies? A friend told me that you can buy wipes that have baby sun lotion on them but I cannot find them anywhere. Would be grateful if anyone could give me leads.
Isn't it fun seeing the LOs starting to move. DS is doing a tiny bit of manoeuvering himself backwards. Looks very hard work but he seems satisfied by the results!

bramblina · 10/04/2006 20:48

Kate, hi, thank you! I do feel very welcome now. I'm so bummed I didn't find this when ds was born as would have loved to share everything from the beginning. In my spare time (ha!) I'm going to try to read over the other threads you've had and try to catch up! I'm sorry things aren't working out for you just now.
Tigerlion, where are you off to on holiday? We're booked up for 3 weeks in Canada in Sept and are also on the hunt for a light buggy- was about to order a maclaren from kiddicare tonight but it's £50, is that unnecessary? Does your Woolies one recline? Our Graco system fills 2/3rds of our boot so we do need a buggy for more than just our holiday, hence I thought the £50 maclaren would last a good while. I bought ds sun lotion from Avon, BOGOF though still £8. I'm sure it's factor 50. I think it's pink so you can see any missed bits. The wipes sound a good idea though will keep an eye out.

bramblina · 10/04/2006 20:48

And BTW, congratulations! How exciting!

josey · 11/04/2006 16:23

oh kate sorry to hear of your awful week!! hope things have a good quick turn around for you!

wow tigerlion congrats!!!
Avon suntan cream for kids is fantastic, they do not burn at all wearing it and you can get it in the colour so you know where its gone,(colour disapears) i had it in the roll on for ds it was less messy, i think they do the wipes as well though!

my ds lost his first tooth today, so he has won the race, he is so excited, we went shopping today and all he did was gappy grin in every mirror he could find!!!

Tigerlion · 11/04/2006 18:37

Where can you buy the Avon suncare cream? Can you buy it in shops or only via mail order?

Bramblina, the push chair does not have swivel wheels but is perfectly easy to control and turn corners etc. I am so uswed to the swivel wheels on my Pramette but really do not notice the difference. We were just after something light and cheap and that is what we got and it looks stylish too!

Josey, how did DS manage to lose a tooth? Very intrigued and hope that it is all okay. Does that mean that he will grow back a non-milkj tooth at this early age?

josey · 11/04/2006 20:43

its mail order though think there also is a website

sorry ds is my oldest(6years old) he was due to loose teeth has 2 big ones in behind he been in competition with dd id he would loose first or she would gain first

suzi2 · 12/04/2006 22:16

Kate - hope things are picking up.

Brambilina - welcome, although I think we have already 'met' on another thread. Can't for the life of me remember which one! I'm in Fife BTW.

Tigerlion - many congrats. We've been considering TTC for a while now and have half heartedly let nature take its course knowing it was unlikely to happen as my period still hadn't returned. Although, my first period arrived today so it looks like we can get serious. But now I'm wondering if I can handle another pregnancy so soon! Mind you, we're both so tired these days that any conception would be near immaculate!

DS is still rocking on all fours and shuffling backwards. Thats been a good few weeks now and he's very frustrated. I wonder how much longer it'l be? He's teething badly too - we're still waiting on those first teeth. And he has occasionally said mumma, but 2 days ago discovered he could say it on demand and hasn't stopped since... mum mumma mumma mumma mum mum mumma... very cute. Daddy is away on business and is due back tomorrow and will be upset that he hasn't even tried to day Dadda yet!

josey · 14/04/2006 10:58

dd has got her 1st cold she is a right little snot bag and its in her eyes as well Sad she is still smiling and sleeping though which is something

dont really have anything else to say so happy 1st easter to everyone and there babies xx

bramblina · 15/04/2006 15:01

Hi suzi, yes I know the name but can't place you. Probably weaning, I've osted enough for everyone on that subject! Was your lo born on the 6th? Mine is 4th.
Dh's cousin just popped round with ds's first easter egg! I was very touched but really didn't want to give him any chocolate. Cousin hinted and hinted so on the 5th suggestion let him have a suck, needless to say he was well impressed!
He cut his 3rd tooth yesterday! This one has given him a bit of bother, (it's the first top one, he cut his bottom ones on 14th & 16th Feb, just past the 6m mark) just a whinge now and again, but nothing like everyone made out!

bramblina · 15/04/2006 20:52

Suzi, just found it! \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1364&threadid=131299\this is the link} out of interest!
Ds tried out his new car seat today (facing forward), we went for a run and dh and I fought for the interior mirror most of the way just so we could see ds fall asleep! It's lovely for him to be able to see what's going on, instead of looking at the back of a seat!

suzi2 · 15/04/2006 22:04

Ah ha - that's where I knew the name from Bramblina. How is your DS now -is he still sicky? My DS is less sick these days now he's getting solids. Although he always seems to manage to throw up all over his gran when we're out. I think she gets him too excited. BTW, I did jinx that good sleeping thing...

Glad to hear that he enjoyed his chocolate. Everyone was trying to buy DS an egg but I said no. Which was silly as I could have just eaten them all myself and we'd all be happy! Grin

Azure · 17/04/2006 19:34

Sorry I haven't been on for a while - I hope everyone is doing well. As it's the school holidays we went to my parents for 5 days and have just returned from 5 days in France. Unfortunately the queues for the lift up the Eiffel tower were so long yesterday that DH and DS1 walked (to 2nd level and got the lift to the top) and DS2 and I had to stay on the ground. DS2 has had his first taste of Disneyland, though.

I'm meant to be returning to work in 10 days but unfortunately the nanny we found decided to take another position, so I'm back to square one. I've no idea what I'm going to do. Meanwhile, work still hasn't confirmed whether I can work four days per week. I really wish we could win the lottery.

bramblina · 18/04/2006 19:52

Hi suzi, no, ds isn't half as bad thanks, like yours now I think it's helped by him being on solids. Also I think with their muscles getting stronger, it's amazing how quickly they grow out of things, isn't it? He's still a good sleeper but this weekend- one night he woke 3 times, one night he woke at 2am and last night he slept through from 7.30-7.30, and has had 2 good naps of more than an hour each today, he's been very hungry too- I think it must be a growth spurt. I hope so anyway! The night he woke 3 times was the first night I'd been out since new year and I'm still breastfeeding- I was knackered!
