Oh meant to say Josey I am sorry about your gran being so unwell. I am trying to get DS to sleep now without feeding him to sleep, he's not too happy really fighting sleep but the noise from airoplanes isn't helping!

Sorry you are having a hardtime too Miaou guess the next step is cutting down on night feeds somehow so he feeds better in day, not ready for that myself though!

suzi2 · 07/01/2006 21:55

having minor panic here... finally got a good look and feel at DSs gums tonight. His bottom two teeth are no further. BUT, it looks like his bottom side tooth and a top front tooth are near breaking point. Is it a problem if they come in in the wrong order? I have visions of my DS with little braces on!

Miaou · 07/01/2006 22:00

Not at all suzi, just not very usual! Ds cut his first tooth about a month ago (IIRC - it's all a blur ) and it was a top one.

OP posts:
suzi2 · 07/01/2006 22:12

phew! I thought he was abnormal there! I've been paying so much attention to the bottom gum I never noticed the top one making progress. Hopefully not long now, I can see that it's almost there.

Sorry to hear about the night feeding Miaou. Have you thought about expressing a bottle to give yourself a break? maybe for the last feed of the evening? DS wakes frequently - but I don't offer him a feed unless he won't settle within half an hour. I'm a mean mummy! Mind you, he fed 3 times last night. Even though he fed about 8 times during the day. I just don't understand babies...

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 07/01/2006 23:40

We're 3 for 3 in putting her down in different stages of awake for her naps. She's managed to put herself to sleep all 3 times instead of her usual 2 hours of sleep during the day, we're almost at 5!!! Either this is the best thing ever, or we're in for a loooong night tonight.

Miaou · 08/01/2006 12:23

That sounds great c&c's mommy! Lets hope it continues.

I'm going to do something about ds's sleeping/feeding now - it's getting beyond a joke. I actually wonder if I've been giving him too much food, therefore he has taken less milk during the day, and therefore making up for it during the night. I am going to cut down on the amount he gets to eat a little today, and stuff him full of as much milk as he can take, to see if that makes a difference. I also just fed him upstairs just now - he is so nosy that he would rather look around than feed!

I think that because I was so pleased he was loving his food so much, I have been overlooking his milk intake. The dds were at best indifferent eaters, it's such a pleasure to feed someone who goes "um, um, um" with every spoonful!!. I will report back on progress.

She got up twice last night, but we got her to bed late because we were out. The good thing was that they both were within an hour and a half of her going to bed, so DH was up and got her. She didn't wake up from 10:20-6, so that was great.

I was wondering if maybe DS was getting too much solids and not enough milk, Miaou, but I don't really have much experience in that. Solids really helped Colin sleep through the night, but he ate and drank so much at that age, I don't think it did anything to detract from his milk intake. I really hope you find something that works, because I feel for you knowing how exhausting it is getting up so many times a night.

Josey- Even though I am about DD's sleeping habits , sorry to hear about your gran. Hope things get better.

josey · 08/01/2006 17:24

i wondering what everyone is doing re drinking(not just milk) and i dont mean stressed mums on the wine either dd isnt great at drinking though does take a little bit of water at dinner time.....the last 2 days have given her some fruit at lunch but followed with her bottle which is usually 7oz but she just takes about 4.Im not worried about milk intake just liquid for the bowels as she sometimes struggles.

Maiou think its a man thing about loving the grub straight away and if he is eating loads could he maybe be thirsty and thats why he wants the extra feeds later on????guess work sorry, as for the willy front it only gets worse ds spent half of his xmas concert with his hand firmly attached

C&Cmommy hope it lasts you must have been delighted last night

i have been very good on my health binge since friday i havent even had any tea or coffee since thursday which is a first for me and today i really have felt the benefit of it, its amasing, dont know how long i can keep that up for though!!

dazedandconfusedmum · 08/01/2006 19:06

c&cmommy glad to hear you are starting to get some sleep, it makes all the difference

Pookey we will have to see what the others (Azure & Beachyhead) think but it will be much easier for me if we make it a Friday this month (13th, 20th or 27th are all fine with me). I can still do Thursday if no-one else can change but if we make it a Friday I will have 1 or 2 with me instead of 3!!

Re drinking & sleeping: DS4 only poos once every couple of days and it doesn't seem to bother him so I haven't tried him with any water yet. I am not weaning until 6 months so was going to leave any drink/food until then. I definately think milk helps them sleep though. My DS1 didn't used to eat much during the day but drank lots of juice and then used to fill up on milk throughout the night. I then decided with DS2 that I would make sure he had a bottle of milk before bed even if he had eaten a good dinner and he never woke in the night. Have done the same with DS3 & 4 too and it has worked. It is either a fluke or a good example, not sure which!!??

Josey I am very envious that you are doing so well at your health kick I have been trying to get my bum in gear but so far haven't managed it. I think it is because I have so far to go to get back to my "normal" size and when it is the forth time round and the little treasures are driving me mad you get kinda sick of trying!! What is the Davina DVD like?? I was thinking of getting the Charlie Brooks one as it got 9/10 in the magazine reviews, has anyone tried it yet??

Is anyone else struggling to lose their baby weight/fat??? Please tell me I am not the only one

josey · 08/01/2006 21:32

the Davina dvd is really good, she has 3 30min workouts, pump box and core, the pump is hard, the box is hard but very good fun, they do 1 min fat burning workouts every 10 mins or so, i havent done the core yet, thought i would have a day off but i did walk to the supermarket and back and i live up a steep hill so thats a workout in its self with shopping under the pram haha. What i like about the dvd is she herself doesnt make it look like she is all made up and that she finds it hard if you know what i mean.

I agree about the bed time milk ds and dd always have there milk before bed ds is 6 now and wont sleep properly without a glass.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 08/01/2006 22:08

Caitlin's still only getting milk, well I guess formula now. Since we switched from BFing, she's been rather constipated and on Dr. advice I give her a bit of juice most days, but I keep it at no more than 2 oz, and I always try to give it to her fairly early in the day so it doesn't interfere with her feeds, especially those leading up to bedtime.

Twiga · 09/01/2006 12:08

Hello and Happy New Year !

We had a lovely Christmas day with our friends and dh got up at around 2.30pm and joined us for dinner. The web cam thing in the morning was a huge hit and the PIL got to see dd oopening some of her presents - when I say opening I mean dribbling and chewing at the paper! Dh's grandpa continues to have good and bad days, and his uncle seems to be gettign through the chemo not too bad.

My p's came up for New Year which was really nice. We had a lazy few days, did a bit of shopping in the sales and went to Duthie Park - a big fav coz it has indoor gardens so even when the weather is yuk we can have a pretty walk! New Years eve we had an Indian take-away and a movie - still managed to stay up until 2am, thank goodness dd slept until 9am!

Moschops, I don't drive either, I've had some lessons but am a really nervous driver - I'd be ok if there were no other cars on the road, let alone buses, lorries and taxi drivers ! Since having dd though I've been thinking about it again and feel a bit more motivated as it would be great to go on days out to places we like without having to wait for dh to have a day off.

Kate100, sounds like you've got a gem of a dh, what a star! Hope you're feeling much better now.

Wilbur congrats on the first tooth coming through, just waitng for things to move here, dd is soooo dribbly! Suzi2, I've been worried about the order of teeth too as the biggest bumps in dd's gums are a canine and a molar, plus it looks like she'll get a top front tooth too - no sign of any others - that said they are still just white dots in the gums, getting bigger but not cutting through yet.

Josey, sorry to hear things still aren't great with your gran, hope there is some more posititve news soon, been thinking about you.

On a weaning front is anyone holding off until 6 months? I'm aiming to, dd is exclusively bf and I seem to be able to keep up just now - she's 4 months this sat. I wouldn't stubbornly hold out if I thought she was hungry but would really like to get to the 6 months - my rl ante-natal group all seem to be starting weaning and sceptical that 6 months is doable. Do you think it's a realistic goal?

Anyways, better head as need to sort changing bag for dh as he's off out with dd - time for me to get out a magazine, put my feet up and have a coffee! Chat later, take care x

Miaou · 09/01/2006 12:34

Wow! wowowowowow! Ds went to sleep at 11pm, woke at 2.30am screaming his head off (think he had tummy ache, it's very unusual for him to cry like that), I gave him some calpol and a big feed, and....he slept until 8.50am!!!!! We went from 4 feeds a night to one!

OTOH I can't believe I was so thick as to not realise that I was giving him too much food during the day and not enough milk! I feel quite bad about it tbh, I was all for holding out on weaning until six months but he was feeding so much during the night that I felt he was ready for it... and I suppose he is really, just not quite as much as he has been getting...argh.

Anyway, I hope it lasts! Even if he doesn't do it again for a while at least I know he can. He has never slept for more than 4 hours before, and that only once, so I am most impressed!

Twiga, glad to hear you had a good Christmas! If you can hold out on the weaning front, go for it, I say. colinandcaitlinsmommy, sounds like you are getting somewhere with the sleep thing, that's really great!

I have been lol at your comments about having a boy, particularly josey's ds - oh gawd I've got all that to come...

OP posts:
josey · 09/01/2006 13:53

hi twiga good to hear from you, glad you had a lovely xmas sent you quick email.

Maiou you must be delighted i hope i continues for you, what a difference, as for the wee boy stories that was a tame one!!! the worst was when he thought he broke it in the bath and wouldnt let me see to try and help he was screaming his head off!!! how can i pu this without being too rude, he turned it inside out sure you know what i mean I WAS MORTIFIED

DD got the shock of her life today getting woken for the school run, bless she then slept from 10.30 till 1.15!!! she never sleeps durning the day for more than 30mins

kate100 · 09/01/2006 15:39

I have a very grumpy baby here, I'm definitely part of the teething club. They're so close to being through, but not quite there, I feel so sorry for him and what do you know, DH is a pharmacist and have we get any Calpol? Have we heck!! Never mind.

Glad that the sleep situation seems to be improving all round, especially you Mioau, I don't know how you were doing it, you must be some sort of superwoman.

DS2 is enjoying his food, but I try not to give him too much as I want to keep giving him lots of milk. Especially his last feed before bedtime to keep him going until the morning.

Dazedandconfusedmum, I still have lots ofweight to lose and I'm only on my second baby not fourth, don't give yourself a hard time about it. Of course, my weight probably would be less if I didn't love eating so much I'm going to start watching what I eat after all of the christmas food is gone. I have started going back to the gym this week too which should help.

pookey · 09/01/2006 16:34

Hi All

Don't mean to brag but I am also a memeber of the grumpy baby club, the need to get some sleep club and the need to loose some weight club (feeling sorry for myself )

Azure, beachyead and D&CMommy lets make it a friday?

pookey · 09/01/2006 20:20

Sorry about my narky comment just feeling really tired and stressed about going back to work in march. My episiotemy op isn't until May which will prob mean more infections, antibiotics, thrush painfl breastfeeding blah blah blah and DS sleep has got much worse recently.

dazedandconfusedmum · 09/01/2006 20:48

Pookey, I know exactly how you feel. I don't think it matters if you have 1 baby or 4, if you have a bad day you have a bad day!!! I am getting slepp so that isn't too bad but DS1 is being a pain at the moment because he has an answer for EVERYTHING and insists on winding up DS2 & DS3 ALL the time. I then feel so wound up when they go to bed that I eat everything I can find even though I know it is gonna make me put more weight on!!

Josey, I saw a programme on last night that was all about Celebrity Keep Fit DVDs (believe it or not). They rated Davinas in the top 5 of all of them along with Beverly Callard and Charlie Brooks. I am gonna give one of them a go.

Kate100, how on earth do you get to the gym with 2 little ones?? I went to my local David Lloyd today and I found that the fees were quite good but the creche is £3.25 per child per hour so if I take the 2 babies for 2 hours three times a week (to make the most of the membership) it will cost me £39 per week just in creche fees!!!

Pookey, lets do Friday 27th Jan to give time for Azure and Beachyhead to see the postings and I will CAT you and them a week before so that we can arrange a time and place by e-mail rather than posting it on here

Azure · 09/01/2006 20:48

Sorry to hear you sound a little down Pookey. Can I also sign up for the grumpy baby, need to get some sleep and lose some weight clubs? DS2 is sleeping no better than 2 months ago and I am still not able to get into my normal clothes, despite going to the gym (admittedly not much over Christmas).

A Friday should be ok for me.

pookey · 10/01/2006 10:45

Hi Azure and Dazedandconfusedmum your messages really cheered me up, thanks . I lost the plot a bit last night and a touch of insomnia didnt help with the sleep (groan) but feeling sooooo much better today. Think I am going to go to Ealing and treat myself to a trip to starbucks and hopefully DS can have his lunchtime nap in his pram! Not so good on the diet front I know but I can always have a skinny muffin and latte and walk there at a brisk pace

pookey · 10/01/2006 10:48

God that sounds awful, just meant cheered me up not to feel alone!

beachyhead · 10/01/2006 10:49

Friday is ok for me although I might be back at work by then....(only Mon - Wed) though.....Baby is still lovely, but sleeping all the time. Througgh the night and a good hour and a half after each bottle or food. Am I boring her, do you think!!!! Started giving food about two weeks ago at 18 weeks and now on two meals a day, along with her four bottles.....All a bit time consuming and after the other two get home from school, well it all gets very chaotic then....Not sure a nanny is going to cope with this when I go back to work. Still, give it a go.

Azure · 10/01/2006 13:39

Beachyhead, how did you get hold of your nanny? Given that I've completely failed to win the lottery I'm going to have to start the search soon. Pookey, I've just come back from a trip to Starbucks - the skinny carrot cake is very nice and under 200 calories apparently! Last night DS2 woke at 10.30pm, 1.15am, 4.15am and at 5.25am was up for the day. DS1 woke at midnight and 4am, and was up at 6am. Not a great night, all considered.

kate100 · 10/01/2006 14:40

I'm really feeling for all of you who are in the need more sleep club, at least I only have to worry about grizzles and the size of my bottom. Everything seems worse when you're tired I think.

I took ds2 trampolining today for the first time and it has had its desired effect both my boys are asleep and I have a precious bit of time to myself. DS2 was fascinated by it, he was following all the children with his eyes, but then the bouncing started to make him sleepy.

D&Cmum, I go to the gym as soon as my dh walks through the door at 6:25, 10 minute drive there, 1 hour in the gym, ring dh and tell him to start cooking whatever I've made for dinner, 10 minute drive home, quick shower and still have dinner with dh at normal time. I miss out on the children going to bed, but as I've been with them all day I think that's OK. I also go on a Saturday morning and my mum and dad have them. DS1 hated the creche at the gym so I only left him there once.

josey · 10/01/2006 16:46

oh im such a bad mum i have had the biggest blow out with DS ever he is sitting in his bedroom with the light out. he came home from school today covered in mud the usual and his trousers on inside out after gym so i knew he was in one of his no one at home and no lights on moods, but when i saw that all his school work had been sent home cause he hadnt done any of it i tried to stay calm it has taken ages, then he wanted the tv on to which i told him not today he was getting to read and do puzzle books etc well that was it he stormed to bed and as he has a bunk bed thing kicked lumps out the roof, needless to say i lost it, ds cryed dd cryed, he wants me dh dd to move to a different country and leave him oh and i have to put all his toys in the loft including his bed and he will sleep outside, and here was me feeling rather upbeat today someone shoot me!!!!!!!!
azure im still praying i win the lotto, my work are still dragging there heels about me going job share, and the bank balance is running out, there is no way im going back full time as they will never sort it out.
kate100 that sounds very good, i must get going at the gym again but i always feel so nervous going silly i know.
better go ds hates himself now and wants to kill himself bang goes my dist im on the chocolate tonight
