Blossom have you tried delaying the naps a bit (1/2 hour say), that seems to be getting slightly longer naps out of my ds?

blossom2 · 27/01/2006 21:29

we'er going to try putting her into her grobag for daytime naps tomorrow - i used to do it with DD1 but the lack of sleep is obviously affecting my brain ... god i'm so grumpy after 7 days of wakeful nights thanks everyone for your ideas. its really helpful

Miaou · 29/01/2006 22:47

Hello folks. Ds was baptised today - we had a lovely church service, then a few people back to the house for soup and a roll. Ds was fab - very well behaved! and got passed around everyone without a complaint!

The routine thing is working really well, but even better is that now I have got a loose framework, I can vary it quite a bit but still get him to go to sleep at night. He is now going to bed at 7pm, waking for a feed around 11/12pm, then again some time during the night (last night wasn't until 5am!!). The sleeping through seemed to be a one-off but I can happily cope with one feed during the night.

Tomorrow I have got a job interview for a relief librarian - wish me luck!

Hi all

Miaou good luck with the interview. ds sleeping has gone a bit downhill as after his mid of night feeds he is lying quitely in his cot for a bit then screaming the house down. last night he only woke once at 12:30 but it would have been after 2:30 he went back to sleep, after lots of rocking, feeding, calpol etc. groan.

Azure · 30/01/2006 13:50

Miaou glad the baptism went well and good luck for the interview tomorrow. DS2 finally seems to be recovering from his cold, although sleeping is just awful. DH got very little sleep before 3.30am last night and I got almost no sleep afterwards. It has to get better, surely.

pookey · 30/01/2006 15:02

God Azure I feel bad for moaning about ds' sleep, you poor things have you spoken to GP?

kate100 · 30/01/2006 18:00

Azure, maybe you should see your GP, you must be so tired

Miaou, glad the baptism went well and good luck for the job interview today.

I recovering from a kidney infection, today is my first day out of bed and I've had to spend it cleaning the house. DH tries really hard, but he just doesn't notice when things need doing.

DS2 was 6 months old yesterday, I can't believe it, I don't know where the time has gone. He's getting so big and developing his own little personality. He's really determined and is always trying to do new things and he has such a sunny smile

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 30/01/2006 19:09

Azure, you and DH have mine and DH's sympathies, since we've both been where you are. Hope things get much better.

Josey you were so right about Caitlin sleeping through during vacation. She slept till 5:45 and 6:30. She didn't do it last night at our house, but DS was sick for the trip, and I think he gave it to her, so I think that only waking up once was actually pretty good, because she's stuffy and can't breathe very well.

I'm starting to make baby food purees today. Much easier this time around for some reason.

Azure · 30/01/2006 21:52

Thanks for the sympathy. I'm off to bed now, dreading what the night may bring. C&CsMommy, hope you had a nice break - sorry to hear that DS was sick. Yes, I have a freezer section full of baby purees. DS2 wasn't keen on avocado today, though.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 30/01/2006 22:17

I hope it goes well. There's not much worse than dreading going to bed. I've been feeling a lot less tense the past few days, and realized that I've finally stopped dreading nighttime and realizing that I now think that I won't necessarily sleep through the night, but will probably get an okay enough amount of sleep for the first time in months.

Wow Kate, 6 months. I think it is so amazing how many of you have babies almost a month older than Caitlin.

Very quick post to say I got the job! So sorry to hear about the non-sleepers . I remember when the dds were little, I always used to say, I'll choose non-eaters over non-sleepers every time (dds were not good eaters) - at least then you retain some sanity! Hope it all resolves for you.

josey · 01/02/2006 15:37

congrats Maiou and glad you had a lovely day on Sunday

C&Cmommy im so glad your vacation went well apart from DS being poorly at least if you were getting sleep it would have been a million times better.

I sorry to hear so many of you are still suffering from lack of sleep and so many babies have colds, im touching anything wooden and crossing everything i can while typing but we havent suffered from either.

Took DD to get weighed yesterday she has slowed down quite a bit and is just 17lb5oz

pookey · 02/02/2006 21:11

Hi All

Congrats on job Miaou!

DS is 6 months old today and had his first taste of solids . He also rolled over on tuesday; flipped over from his front to his back really quickly after waiting so long to do it . He didn't sleep so well last night though woke 3 times on top of that I had mastitis and felt quite ill from and breastfeeding was painful I also started my period so double wammy yuk!

Miaou · 02/02/2006 22:51

pookey, ds was 6 months old yesterday - can't believe how fast this half a year has gone! And well done on holding out to 6 months with the breastfeeding - I'm afraid I lost my will when ds was 21 weeks.

I think ds is going through a "I don't like my cot" phase at the moment, and by gum is he stubborn! He screams his head off each time I put him down, tears of pure rage. I am really glad dh is around to strengthen my resolve, there are a couple of times when I nearly went in and picked him up, but I know in the long run it would be counter-productive. He yells for about 15 mins then falls asleep no bother!

Other than that - he has discovered his feet and loves to hold them, and if you "tut" at him he will "tut" back - so sweet! He is showing no interest in holding things or picking them up though. He loves his baby gym and will grasp something hanging from that with two hands (he has even worked out how to pull the handle on his musical teddy to make it play) - but won't hold a rattle or suchlike. What are other babies doing re. holding/picking things up?

I have got an appointment through for ds's suspected squint - on dh's birthday! He is going to take the dds into town while I go to the hospital with ds (the dds are off school that day). Good job we hadn't made plans really!

Thanks for the congrats on the job btw. I have to get Disclosure Scotland done first (criminal check) which will take anything from a week to several weeks - then we do our training.

DS2 has realised that if he cries in the night, mommy will come On Wednesday night he cried on and off from 12 until 3 and there wasn't anything wrong as everytime I went in he would give a lovely big smile and start cooing and as soon as I left he would cry again. Eventually he dropped off and thankfully there wasn't a repeat last night. It was a real shock to the system after all this time, so all of you that are still waking I really feel for you.

DS2 is holdiong things now, his favourtie thing to do is to have his spoon after a meal and chew it away to his hearts content. I was right about his teeth being sharp, on Wednesday he chewed through a spoon!!

josey · 03/02/2006 20:44

gosh its strange to hear some of you say your babies are 6months old now, think i was the last in the aug due thread as dd was just 5months this week.
every night just now, dd is screaming for about an hour starts at the same time and she never crys just protests its horrible not being able to console her she just seems to snap out of it.
she is holding things and picking them up they usually go straight to her mouth and she has good co-ordination as even small things like her dummy she is managing to get in, still hasnt rolled over, though can go on her side if she pulls herself over while holding her feet. she is also desprate to sit up and keeps pulling herself up into an almost sitting position.
wow kate those teeth are sharp!!!

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 03/02/2006 21:35

Everyone here's sick. DH has been for weeks, Colin for a week, caitlin for a few days, and now me. Caitlin's so bad that I held her sitting up all night last night so she could breathe. The really evil thing is that she was starting to do a better job at sleeping through the night. This cold thing is EVIL.

Don't feel bad, Josey. Caitlin just turned 5 mo last week. I feel like everyone's baby is so much older, too.

pookey · 04/02/2006 18:21

Goodness doesn't matter where you are in the world the evil cold still strikes - sorry your whole family is ill C&CMommy it must have been a long night for you.

DS is quite good at holding things he held his bottle in both hands and sucked for a bit by himself the other week (obviously I was holding him and put my hands back on the bottle)!!

pookey · 04/02/2006 19:01

Oooh congrats on competition Miaou!

josey · 05/02/2006 12:07

we managed to roll over yesterday, didnt know what to do with the arm that got stuck underneath but had a wonderful stunned look on face and for the 1st time ever she didnt cry at being on her tummy, daddy is a bit upset as he is away and missed it.

Miaou · 05/02/2006 12:20

Thanks pookey, I'm in shock!!
