kate100 · 29/03/2006 14:19

My little man is 8 months old today!! Where has the time gone? He'll be 1 before I know it and he won't be a baby anymore. It goes so fast I just want to enjoy every moment this time as I won't be doing it again.

Hope everyone's OK

Rochwen · 30/03/2006 08:45

ok, here's short version. Went to visit local hospital with NHS ante-natal class. Had been 'leaking' all evening, thought dd was kicking my bladder. mw gave talk about labour, mentioned waters breaking not always a big gush, sometimes just a trickle and it feels more like period then peeing... then started to worry but thought I was just neurotic. Trickle got worse and my pants were soaked, sorry if tmi, hubby told me I might as well speak to mw. mw marched me to toilets and checked, then went white, ran off to make phonecalls, ten minutes later there were two other nurse or mw, a wheel chair and i was wheeled into ante-natal ward. lots of checkups and labour was confirmed (i hadn't felt anything and was rather amused by everything). Had a very competent mw who realised dd was breech by feeling her and get things moving. pumped me full of steroids (as 5 weeks before due date), anti-biotics and drugs to stop labour. then dr told me that no neo-natal beds in hospital, nearest one available was in newcastle (I'm in Aberdeen). dr calls helicopter to take me there. mw not happy, worried my labour move on whilst im on transfer (can have lots of complications, baby stuck etc, not good trying to deliver breech baby). Suddenly I'm not amused anymore. mw (what a cool woman !) convinces dr not to transfer me. puts me in bed with lots of machines and more drugs and in the morning they give me a growth span and see that dd is def breech and larger than expected, so they decide to give me a c/s there and then. c/s was great, staff v competent and kind, felt no pain or fear, dd got apgar of 9 ! - lovely experience really, then to top it all off I got my own room - v happy bunny. 5 weeks less pregnancy, c/s (which I'm a huge fan of btw), healthy lovely dd and my own room - now if only the food had been any good i'd do that again !

well, that WAS the short version !

Rochwen · 30/03/2006 08:49

Oh and update, wee Solveig will be 9 months in a week. She now weighs 18 lbs and 15 oz, is 67 cm long, loves her food, her toys, her (our) dog and her sleep (I know I'm lucky.) She's sooooo beautiful !!!!

Rochwen · 30/03/2006 08:50

btw, nice to be back on mn !

queenrollo · 30/03/2006 09:21

Rochwen...it's good to hear another positive story of early arrival. i was a 'due in sept' but ds appeared 4 weeks early.......not all as dramatic as yours sounds.
by my dates he was only 3 weeks early, but definitely ready. no vernix and long nails, very long/tall and a good weight. midwife says i just ran out of room to put him (i'm petite).........to be honest the only time through the whole labour that i worried was when (in the throes of last stage of labour!!) i was introduced to the paediatrician hovering in the corner. i suddenly realised the implications of ds arriving early, but he came out wailing and very alert.
i really felt for my fellow sept (and august!) mums having to cope with the last stages of pregnancy in that heat. i was kind of pleased i didn't have to...Smile

josey · 30/03/2006 12:20

hi everyone, glad it was all ok for you Rochwen, sounds as if right place right time, and you shocked them into doing there best for you well done girl!!

Well i feel miles behind lol DD just 7months today last of the litter, she is just so much fun just now, im dreading having to go back to work and leaving her, sure i will be fine when i get into things.

Good for you Kate, i rember thinking with DS that i wish he would do this and do that and reach this stage, now i want to freeze frame every little second and im determind dd wont be my last.
maybe next year Shock at myself!!! im really am moarning being pregnant just now, i seem to be surrounded by friends about to have babies im a mental case i know!!

after saying dd wont go on her tummy i went to check on her last night as she wont sleep just now, and found she had rolled onto her tummy with her bum up in the air sound asleep she looked so cute i felt bad turning her again, she is managing to get round her cot every time i go in she is in a different place!

DS has another appointment re his nose today, Dh's work are putting him private to see if we can get this sorted once and for all its starting to affect his life so badly he had 3 bleeds on tuesday, was sent out gym, had to stay in at lunch time then when he went to beavers they went to play centre and he had another one and had to come out of there, he has stopped sleeping as in a panic it will start at night, im so sad for the wee lamb, he keeps looking at me to make it better and i just cant, i need the prof's to do that for me, so fingers crossed

anyway better get on xx

Tigerlion · 31/03/2006 19:00

Hope everyone is well and looking forward to the weekend. Any ideas of what to do when DS grinding his teeth? He has his two bottom teeth and two top teeth are coming through and poor thing is crying so much with all his teething. However he keeps on grinding his teeth together both at day and at night. I am worried that this will not be good for the growth of the teeth. Anyone elsze experiencing the same?

josey · 31/03/2006 23:12

tigerlion dd doesnt have any teeth yet but i bought her i while ago a gum sheild, it goes in mouth lile a dummy but it is shaped round the gums, she isnt keen on it, but it might be worth a try, other than that have the thought that baby teeth wont last forever so if they are wonky the will fall out in the end, good luck xx

dd has all of a sudden started rolling over and today trying to crawl, she can get her top half up and when get her bum up her head drops, from refusing to roll full stop this is scaring me a bit haha!! she is rolling in her sleep is anyone elses baby doing this if so are you turning them again or leaving them, not sure what to do for best re health reasons etc?
ds was a sleep walker which started with cot crawling but he never slept on tummy

queenrollo · 01/04/2006 12:09

ds rolls over in his sleep and his favoured positions are......on his side with face very close to cot bars to drop off to sleep and then eventually he turns himslef onto his belly in his sleep. i just leave him like that, because turning him over just wakes him up......

kate100 · 01/04/2006 14:38

DS2 now sleeps on his tummy too. I figure that he can roll over both ways so it's OK to leave him as he can roll back from being on his tummy IYSWIM?

kipper22 · 03/04/2006 20:37

josey, ds was doing the same head up/ bum up thing until recently - now he's suddenly developed a crawl which looks like a cross between a caterpillar and a commando! he tends to sleep on his side but if he rolls onto his front he will cry - seems to conveniently forget how to rool back in the night!
We took him for his first visit to the beach today as the sun was shining (a little bit anyway! had to keep a jumper on!) he absolutely loved it - amazed by the feel of the sand. he ended up more or less buried where he just kept pulling handfuls towards himself. Found it funny that he didn't even try to eat a handful - obviously babies have a sixth sense about these things! Can't wait for the summer now, so we can spend days at the seaside. Grin

kate100 · 04/04/2006 08:38

kipper22 how lucky you are to live by the sea. The first time we took DS1 to the beach he dived off the rug ans eat a nig mouthful of sand, he had quite gritty nappies for a few days afterwards, ouch!

The weather here has gone really cold again, there was frost this morning, I really want tp plant sunflowers and tomatoes with DS1, but there doesn't seem a lot of point if it's still going to be frosty, I'm ready for some proper sunshine, so I can get out more with the boys. This winter seems neverending and must be worse for those of you in Scotland. Heres hoping for some sun soon.

suzi2 · 05/04/2006 21:18

It's been a bit quiet on here lately hasn't it? My other club (on babyworld) is like this too! I think it's because our babies are reaching such a fun age!

DS is 8 months tomorrow. He has been a lot of fun the last few weeks. He seems to be learning something new every day. A few weeks ago he worked out how to get onto all fours. He's still wobbling about on all fours and shuffling backwards but doesn't seem to have the energy to work out a full crawl. I took fright when he was on all fours as I haven't got our new house up to date and didn't want him crawling! consequently he's had very little tummy time lately! Grin He still hasn't rolled though so can only get to his tummy from sitting which he doesn't do often.

He's started a wobbling, push-pull thing that's getting us all laughing. He looks like he's, ahem, 'humping' everything like a randy dog! He's also shaking his head in a 'no' fashion when he wants attention or his food isn't to his liking.

Hope everyone is well.

queenrollo · 06/04/2006 09:14

hi all.....
does anyones elses little one not like being on the floor? ds will tolerate it for a while but then gets bored with it and wails! he likes being in his walker far too much, but i'm concerned it will make him too lazy to learn to crawl properly. he's pushing up onto his knees but can't in the lounge because we have laminate and he slides around. we're going to get a rug this weekend to help him out a bit.
he's a real livewire.....but had been a horrible, grumpy non napping baby the last few days. i spent most of yesterday in tears because it just felt so relentless. this morning he has woken up and is just a little ray of sunshine so maybe he just had a few off days.
have to go.....he's playing with the flap on the video and he got his finger caught in it yesterday!! obviously didn't learn his lesson Smile

kate100 · 06/04/2006 12:02

My little man can crawl!!! I'm a very proud mommy, he smacks his little hands on the floor in a very purposeful way and off he goes, he can only do about 5 'crawls' before he gets tired but he can do it, DH caught him on the video camera doing it for the first time yesterday, so it's been preserved for posterity. Hate listening to myself on the video camera and them spend ours asking DH if that's what I really sound like.

It's 6 weeks on Sunday intil DS2's christening, sent out the invites this week. I'm still hoping to lose at least another 8lbs by then, but it's Easter in between so I'm not hopeul. Can't wait to end my Lenten ast and eats lots of yummy chocolate Smile then back onto the diet Sad Still this weights not going to move itself is it? And it is working I've now lost 11lbs, I just need to keep motivated.

Utopia · 06/04/2006 12:21

Kate I think DD's Christening is on the same day - 14th? - I too have 8lbs to go.... Frustrating really. Good Luck though.

Well done on the little one crawling. My little one is at the 'on all fours rocking stage'! It doesn't help that her two brothers are constantly doing everything for her so she has no reason to do anything apart from act like their little Princess.

josey · 06/04/2006 16:55

hi everyone
well done kate for the weight, doesnt seem to have taken long to drop off and well done to your ds.

dd has discovered she doesnt mind being on her tummy, and is trying to get a crawl bum up head down head up bum down at the moment but she is digging her feet in for grip. she is having a very restless week with sleep hoping it passes.

ds was at the hospital the other day, they have done stuff to his nose so fingers crossed this will be the last of it!!
i have an interview for that job tomorrow, im so nervous you wouldnt believe, think its with not being in work for almost a year (where has the time gone!!)

hope your all well xx

kipper22 · 07/04/2006 15:45

hope things went well josey!
kate, i thought i was being clever in doing all of the filming with the camera so i wasn't on it. i was far too scatty to realise being so close to it meant my bossing people around was all you could hear - yuk!!!
ds has started really babbling this week - everything seems to be "daddy did". dh is very proud but i've told him it's not actually words to dampen his sprits! Wink

josey · 07/04/2006 17:11

well i got the job!!! start in a couple of weeks, i was really sad when i phoned my current boss.

haha kipper i usually do that trick so im not on the camera then i hear this awful garble and realise its my voice!!! ug!! if i was clever and could work out what to do i would put music over my voice haha

good weekend to you all
