Here we go, was going to write something lovely and meaningful, but I'm not very good at it so I'll leave that to someone else.....

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ChaCha · 08/01/2006 20:46

I'm not contemplating but would like to know. How long should you wait before getting pregnant after having a c-sec? Does anyone know?
And how many of you would suggest VBAC? They say that subsequent pregnancy/births can be a totally different experience thus making VBAC seem like an option that you could ponder over?
Anyone?

Also, in your own personal experience, what about age gap between the kids? What worked with your family?

goldenoldie · 08/01/2006 21:04

ChaCha - can't help you with VBAC query, I've had 3 sections. Or age gap - 10 years between mine! Only planned to have 5/6 year gap, wanted to wait till one was in school before I had another, but it took ages to get pregnant 2nd time around.

Don't think you have to wait any length of time to get pregnant after c-section.

Diege · 08/01/2006 21:16

Can't help with VBAC Chacha from personal experience, but have a friend who had one, with no problems whatsoever. I think it's becoming more ususal now, with women at least offered a trial of labour? Twinkle would know for sure . Regarding age gaps, there are 16 months between my first 2, and then 3 years between bubs and dd2. First gap was actually planned, and worked out well in terms of sibling closeness etc.. Not too stressful either - I think the worst part was being pregnant with a 6 momnth old! - a relief to have a newborn and toddler! Bet you're starting to think of another aren't you? Go on..,.admit it!.
Golden, yes toddlers and babies are funny together, and not always in a funny 'ha ha' sense! We've had everything from attempts to prize open her eyelids, to fingers in mouth (much amusement that she 'sucked' like Baby Annabel!) - even a drumstick lolly in mouth (discovered by me only when she suddenly stopped crying ).Think the twins got off lightly!

Busyalexsmummy · 08/01/2006 21:37

chacha@you thinking about having anougher so soon!! about age gap-my advice would be, def wait till little one is passed the 1yr mark-i personally think choosing to have anougher b4 then is unfair on your first-purely as they depend on you so much in their first yr, also tend to think 1st yr is hard work and full of suprizes for 1st timers, i found 9mth mark hard, alex was going through seperation anxiety and was very demanding, cant imagen going through all that whilst pg! Also would be inclined to wait till number 1 has started walking, that way if number 2 entered via c/sec, you would have less problems as number 1 would be more mobile and require less carrying/lifting....does that make sense? oviously this is my opinion and you have to do what feels right for you!

last night was pretty awful night like the night before, gave in in the end and had him sleep between me and dp, which meant i had 3&1/2 hrs sleep! really am burning candle at both ends at the moment! am really hopng tonight is better, but im not faffing tonight, if he wakes, there'll be a bottle in the fridge, i'll give him that, then if needs be take him into our bed. determined as i am not to get into that habit, i cannot survive on 5hrs sleep in 50hrs! and plus, dp is on earlies tommorrow, so will be leaving at 5.30am, meaning that i'll have to get up for both the boys, no matter what type of night ive had!

Its freezing here at the mo......! Brrrrrr!

L & Alfie-6 wks today!

ChaCha · 08/01/2006 22:38

Thanks. Really not thinking of another just yet, just want to know what my options are in advance. Won't say the thought did not cross my mind but I made myself remember my lovely experience of a failed induction, emergency section, and all the glamour and glory of 5 days in hospital. Am yet to share my birth story with the world, funny how you forget. Must push myself to remember!!!

Oh Poor You Busy! I really hope you do have a better night. Have already been told by DH that he has an early morning tomorrow and will be sleeping in the spare room. I get to hate night time. Also freezing here if that's any consolation.

Well, have a choice of 'Jacket' 'Mind Hunters' or more ER...anyone seen those?

Golden - Yeah. Will succumb yet again for the new series.

goldenoldie · 08/01/2006 23:01

Busy - Poor you. Know the feeling. Although the boys go 3/4 hours between feeds, it takes upto an hour and half/two hours to feed/wind/settle both, which only gives me 1 - 2 hours before they are awake and demanding another feed.

Friend that popped round today said her little one was going through the night by 8 weeks, and my sister-in-law recons my neice was doing it by 7 weeks, hmmmm, where am I going wrong!

Londoner · 08/01/2006 23:04

Hi,
Golden, don't mean to pry and please just ignore me if I am, but did you say this was your third c section?
ChaCha, a friend of mine had a long induced labour culminating in a frightening emerency c section many years ago. The professionals summised she must have a small pelvis and wouldn't have been able to deliver naturally....2 years later she had a natural water birth at home by candle light, so I think you're right to investigate further .
Diege, lol a lot at your baby sucking on drumstick lollies! What good sharing children you have!
Busy...good luck tonight.....whisper, whisper.
Not sure what tonight holds for me as Elizabeth has filled her nappy 5 times today....usually goes only once every day or three....yikes! And dh still at work!
Rodeo, do you have your own horses?

Londoner · 09/01/2006 10:28

oooh, it's me again!

Thanks for my invite Busy! Have created an album only to discover my dh has taken all our photos off the mac to make space for his work.....grrr...they're on the iPod but don't know if I'm capable of wrangling them off.....
Eating breakfast whilst typing, putting off cleaning up cat pooh on living room floor (thanks Roxy!) made a start on it at 6.45 but made me gag so am building up courage now...,lol!
Had a Phoebe moment this a.m., you know the one from 'Friends'?, when brushing my teeth over the bath...of course as dh shaving in sink.....when i looked down and a voice in my head startled me saying in a fast and surprised way "Ooh I'm dressed!" I was genuinely surprised as did not remember getting dressed...made myself laugh so much! Ususally my brain is whirring with stuff about people/life/plans etc... this was so simple, sudden and out of character, anyone else feeling 'ditzy'?
Anyhow, had a great night in the end, although dh did not get home from work until 3.30am!. Elizabeth slept from 11pm - 8.45am when I woke her up to stuff her in her furry bear suit for the school run. She is continuing to pooh at each feed though (sorry if tmi!) which is such a dramatic change, how bizarre....
Will attempt iPod hook up at some point today, hmmm, we'll see.. how is everyone else today..... golden, wish I could be round yours today joining in the meet, but think I would finish myself off attempting journey across London today, hope you have a lovely time....
LOVE all your pics on Yahoo! btw, can't wait to put mine on there too.........

Diege · 09/01/2006 11:20

Hi Londoner! Just a quickie, as I too have a full nappy to change (well, she's grunting away on her chair, and going cross-eyed!). Nothing to compete with Elizabeth though . I don't remember who said it, but there is soimething very satisfying about a full nappy! LOL your memory lapse - does your outfit reflect this I wonder ? Congrat's on the full night's sleep- bet you feel great !!
BTW, have never thought of you as a Phoebe-type Londoner! In fact, I have a mental image of all mumsnetters, and I imagine you looking like the 'Mary' out of the 'William and Mary' drama (can't remember the actress's name, but she's pretty gorgeous if it's any consolation!).
Well, the grunting is complete - just a serious face now!
Speak later,
Diege

Londoner · 09/01/2006 11:53

Hi Diege, lol at Libby doing cross-eyed nappy filling. Thanks for the compliments!....right am off to google search for Mary.

Londoner · 09/01/2006 12:08

Hmm yes she (Julie Graham) looks lovely, however, think I probably look more like Martin Clunes! lol.
Haven't heard from Karma recently... are you there Karma? Hope everythings okay with you?

goldenoldie · 09/01/2006 12:28

Londoner - yes, my third c-section. I had a little girl born still at 37 weeks in 2004 - silent placental abruption. Did not want to mention it on the anti-natal side, did not want to frighten any pregnant ladies.

Londoner · 09/01/2006 12:53

Golden, that's so sad, and so recently that you lost her too. I remember you went very quiet towards the end of this pg and was thinking how you seemed so much more chatty and 'well' lately, now I understand what you have been/are dealing with. I bet she was gorgeous... I'm so sorry you lost her.xx

goldenoldie · 09/01/2006 13:01

Thanks Londoner - yes she was. Glad you all know now, and don't worry about talking about her/asking me about her, she was called Alex. Found this poem which sums it all up really........

Go ahead and mention my child,
The one that died, you know.
Don't worry about hurting me further.
The depth of my pain does not show.
Don't worry about making me cry,
I am already crying inside.
Help me heal by releasing the tears
That I try to hide.
I am hurt when you just keep silent,
Pretending he did not exist.
I'd rather you mention my child,
Knowing that he has been missed.
You ask me how I was doing,
I'd say "pretty good" or "fine."
But healing is something ongoing,
I feel it will take a lifetime.

Londoner · 09/01/2006 13:08

That's lovely Golden, where does it come from?

BEKsmum · 09/01/2006 13:38

Afternoon girls

Golden what a beautiful poem, I'm sorry to hear of your loss, to have carried Alex so far and then to lose her must hsve been horrendous. Thank you for telling us about her, it shows how close everyone has grown over the last year. The poem made me cry but it really does say everthing you need it to say when you have lost a loved one no matter what their age, but means so much more with children.
How is Ezra today? I take it Nathaniel doesn't have the same problem?
I know what you mean about the feeding & winding, Thomas is in the same pattern as your boys so I feel like I am constantly feeding or winding & with two it must be even worse.

I've just been & had Thomas weighed he's gone up to 12lb 6oz from 9lb 9oz on the 13th December I knew he'd piled it on I think he's been helping himself to the sweetie bowl!!! He'll be 10 weeks on Wednesday I just can't believe how quickly it's going.

Spent the day at Diggerland yesterday it was cold & wet but great fun, Ben & his best friend loved it. Right best go as Thomas is demanding another feed. Hope you are all well Beks

ChaCha · 09/01/2006 13:52

Hi Ladies,

Golden - Poem brought tears to my eyes. Had thought the same as Londoner too. How are the boys today?

Well, this little one decided to stay up the whole night again!!! What am I doing wrong? He finally slept at 4.30am and had two feeds within an hour of each other both lasting 1 hour and 25 minutes!! No deals were cut last night, DH 'needed his sleep' and that was that! Should I be trying to stop him from sleeping after a certain time of night? (DS not DH, lol)At this rate, I will be unable to do anything in the day.

LOL on the nappy front. Hospital wouldn't discharge us until they had seen enough wet nappies. Of course, this meant nappy changes were of major importance. Felt like an absolute saddo when the nurse walked in to find me holding wet nappy and dancing excitedly around the room saying 'Oooooh, it's a real wet one! He did a wet one. Well done. Oooooh a wet nappy!'

Right come on ladies. Some advice pls. I need to sleep with the rest of the world xx

Diege · 09/01/2006 15:13

Afternoon! You are a very brave lady Golden; as Beks says, it shows how close we have all become that you were able to share this with us; the poem was beautiful, as I'm sure Alex was too.
ChaCha: I can only sympathise with the sleep situation - sounds like Zayn may be falling into the pattern of thinking day is night and vice versa? Have heard about this, and (apparent) solution is to try and make sure they don't sleep too much in day, waking atb 7 to strat day, even if they (and you!) are fast asleep. This, of course, is easier said then done, particualarly when you're knackered! Never been able to suss this one out myself, but you may have some luck? You must feel horrendous! I'm sure others may have some better advice perhaps. Fresh air helps I think (some study saying babies who've been out and about sleep better, or even that scented bath stuff with lavender? May just be something you have to put up with unitl he grows out of it perhaps? (Not very helpful I know!. BTW, pardon my ignorance, but isn't it a day of celebration in the Islamic calender today? (ignore if I am totally wrong!!).
Libby has just discovered her hand, and is moving it back and forth in juddering motions to her eye. Think novelty is wearing off noiw, as she's starting to creak!!

goldenoldie · 09/01/2006 17:05

Thanks girls, I feel very close to you all, and so glad that I could share Alex with you. Maybe that is part of the reason why I don't find the twins so hard, knowing what I have missed and can never regain makes me cherish the twins all the more.

Londoner - the poem just has 'author unknown' beside it.

Beks - thanks for asking. Ezra has been a bit sick today, but I think that was my fault - I let him drink a whole 5oz really quickly, and of course it all came back up again. Nat does not have the same eproblem, thank goodness.

ChaCha - it's a killer when they are up all night. I find I am tired and bad-tempered with everyone the next day. My DH is back in with us now at nights, after I read him the riot act. Suspect he will be asking to sleep in the spare room again soon.

Diege - how do you wake a sleeping baby? Mine are sleeping far too much during the day, but I'm finding it impossible to keep them awake. They just keep nodding off!

goldenoldie · 09/01/2006 17:06

LilJ - good to see you today. Nate is a real cutie. Sorry you missed 'deal, no deal'.

BEKsmum · 09/01/2006 17:24

Hi ya

Golden had to smile at Ezra being sick, I think he and Thomas are very alike, Thomas will scream blue murder if you take his bottle out to wind him half way through but if I let him drink the whole 6oz he looks punch drunk and then promptly throws a good percentage of it back up.
I've been joking about taking a picture of him after a full feed so I'll be able to show him how I know he's been drinking when he's a teenager

LilJ - Jenna (pretty young blonde) won £5,0000 after not swapping the box at the end!

Sympathise with you guys who still have Australian babies, have you tried changing them when they are about to nod off and then leaving them in their vests for a little while so that they are just a bit chilly - I find it keeps them awake for another half an hour or so, if you do this a couple of times a day you should slowly push their body clocks round - it worked with Thomas although he doesn't go down till midnight he does sleep through till between 5:30 and 7:00am
I normally only bath Ben in the morning too as I find baths at night stimulate him rather than relaxing him , he's been like that since birth even with the calming bath bubbles!!!

Right better go and put the dinner on as dh will be in any minute, speak to you all later Beks

ChaCha · 09/01/2006 17:33

Feeling much better, Grandad let me catch up on more sleep but unfortunately he'll be leaving soon and that leaves me holding the baby! (Literally) Will have to arrange reinforcements. Am hoping that he'll sleep better tonight. Am going to try keeping him up post 8pm - it's all I can think of and as you suggested, try being awake from 7ish (well, the intention is there).

Diege - Yes, you're absolutely right. Tomorrow we are celebrating Eid al-Adha or Feast of Sacrifice, it is the most important feast of the Muslim calendar. It concludes the Pilgrimmage to Mecca. Eid al-Adha lasts for three days and commemorates Abraham's willingness to obey God by sacrificing his son.
Another reason why I'm hoping to get a good night's sleep tonight as we'll be off to London early in the morning. Am pleased that u knew of it.

x

ChaCha · 09/01/2006 17:44

Beks, we seem to be cross posting today. Problem is I have the message box open in front of me for anything between 15 and 45mins before I actually press 'Post Message'.

So how long should a 5week old actually be awake for? Surely not 6 blinkin' hours!!
Is it dangerous to keep him awake too long? I mean, might he get over tired? Oh Gosh...

'Tell me why I don't like night time..Tell me why I don't like night time...I wanna shoot, shoooooot, shoot, the wee hours down, down!'

Rodeo · 09/01/2006 18:42

Evening all,

Golden, the poem was so lovely and meant so much. I'm glad you felt able to share little Alex with us it's our first daughter's b'day on Thursday and it's always a dreary sad day so not looking forward to it, the poem will help. Thank you.

Diege, now I'm always going to imagine Londoner looking like Mary!!

Sympathies Chacha, I think lack of sleep is the worst! Jess didn't go to sleep until 1.30 last night, I had had a glass of wine last night so think that may be the culprit, she had been going down at 10ish, so last night was a horrid surprise,

Not heard much from Nova either lately? Where are you girl? We miss you!

Right better get going I can here a small boy having a tantrum upstairs so better help dp get them into bed!

OP posts:
novadandypowder · 09/01/2006 19:45

I'm here, just been a bit busy doing...??...I'm not sure what but it feels like I've been very busy - lol!

Boy do my arms ache after saturdays dance lesson, it really hurts to pick Nat up, and DH had to help me put my top on this morning.

Well, the vet couldn't figure out what was wrong with the cat but he was running a temp, so he gave him a shot of something and gave us some tablets for him and he seems a lot more like his old self. Got freaked out last night as there was blood in his poo (sorry tmi!), but the vet didn't seem to worried as he's back to eating again.

Sure Start are coming to visit me tomorrow to see what they can offer me, so that should be cool.

Also seeing someone tomorrow who we're hoping to take on to look after Natalie for a couple of mornings/afternoons a week - she's looked after DH's business partners kids for years but they're at school now so she has a bit more free time.
