Here we go, was going to write something lovely and meaningful, but I'm not very good at it so I'll leave that to someone else.....

Diege · 31/01/2006 09:07

Morning! . May have cracked it on the sleeping front, as Libby went from 7 to 6 for the 3rd night in a row (I wake her at 11 for a bottle and nappy change then she goes back down). Yeahhhh!; no doubt I have now jinxed myself, as last time I posted something like this I had a really bad one the next night .
Thanks for SW link Golden ; will investigate after posting. Went last night to join, arriving at 5 (the time advertised on website), to be told it didn;t start till 5.30 ; so I waited with grumbling baby, got weighed , got my 'stuff', then left. Will try and time it better next week, as from memory the talks and chats do help. Everyone friendly (think having the pram there helped!), though I had to laugh to myself at the constant 'Have you been good?' from the organiser (makes a change from 'is she good for you...anyone else sick of that from strangers - 'no...she's a really bad baby . One woman lost two pounds, but had obviously been starving all day, as after her weigh in brought out several packets of choccy bars and a big tub of tuna mayo pasta and started tucking in (I was the only one who thought this amusing ; oh well, it will be me next week no doubt!
BEKSMUM: thanks for nappy rash tip - it's still very red, though not at the blistery stage, so will head out to chemists today . Problem seems to have stemmed from her going from a 'one poo a day'baby to several, including night time ones ; odd as she isn't taking more milk? Am very jealous of your night out BEKS (BTW, also think of you as a 'Rebecca'!).
LONDONER: can't believe your clinic times ; it's like they've all sat around a table and thought, 'ok, how can we think up the most inconvenient time possible to really annoy everyone'. Agree, mornings are much better for jabs. Do you have an alternative clinic you could use (or maybe the GP would give the jabs? - our will if you plead, as this is preferable to missing out on jabs which gets surgeries into trouble with their stats!). Good luck!
BOB: have thought about the weighing thing post-feed myself before; I do think it can make a tiny difference, but probably not enough to skew charts (ie. move up a percentile); having said that, on my last check I made sure she had a good bottle, then straight in pram and round to clinic (5 mins walk) - the opposite of the slimming world routine!
Well, going to find the SW thread so I don;t bore the rest of you with it!

Londoner · 31/01/2006 09:23

Hi all,

BEKs - thank you so much for your words of comfort, felt v.emotional when I read them, I'm so used to coping on my own as my dh works long hours in publishing although he is superhusband/dad when he's here. Really helped me to think we'll be going through it when we meet on Thursday, well hopefully we should be through the worst of it by then. Apologies for being so soft, think me mad but jabs and baby checks are more of a hurdle than labour and birth for me I have to admit. Well I shall go to the clinic with your support in mind, thanks.
Enthusia, head sounds like one of those autocrats from history lessons, with faithful advisors and all. People like that almost seem to glean power from being loathed, suppose the only way to deal with it is not to give her that power, remain neutral where she's concerned and true to yourself. Having said that... can you challenge the decision not to call you for an interview? V. impressed by your 'if the mountain won't come to Mohammed' attitide to dh work schedule btw.
LilJ - lol at you accosting your cleaner when she stepped in the door today! Know what you mean, I just keep reminding myself that this is easier than one that is crawling around! We have that stage to look forward to...... and the toddler stage where they barge into the loo with you and lots of pointing ensues with questions such as " ...what's that?" and "...what are you doing naaooooowwwwwww?" Roll on Thursday! Hope you enjoy today.
I wonder how they'll do the 8 week check today on my 13 week old baby.....

Londoner · 31/01/2006 09:38

Hi Diege, cross posted there..... are we always posting a message in tandem or is that my imagination? Strange huh? Thanks for sympathies on the jab front, believe me I've tried most everything to get a morning appt. although stopped short of trying the stats blackmail, think I'd better just bite the bullet and get on with it, as not having it done is becoming just as much of a worry now. Congrats on the sleeping front, 7-6 wow that's great! V. clever doing that 11pm thing, it's a brave woman who disturbs her sleeping child, and it's def paid off for you, inspirational stuff... Glad you braved it to SW and enjoyed it, I'll bet it really helps to have all that moral support. Lol at baby clinic routine being opposite of SW routine, lol! V.good.
Hi twinkle, cross posted with you as well. Sorry to hear your nan is still in hospital, it must be hard esp when she's not nearby. Is there any family nearby to be there for her when you're not? Is she well enough to enjoy Josh visiting? Must be amazing for her to have you visit with him if she is. Glad swimming went well, and hope you enjoy your 'day off' today. Oh, congrats on winning the mum and baby comp, wow, what did you have to do? Are we going to see pics of you and Josh smiling out at us whenever we shop/read baby mags?
Right, better go and get myself sorted.......

novadandypowder · 31/01/2006 10:42

BoB - pmsl @ the WASP! ~ I have both the Wilkinet and Baby Bjorn slings, here are my thoughts:
Wilkinet
pros: small, better for baby, can be used until child is too heavy for you to carry, can be used on back or front, more comfortable for long journeys than thec BB
cons: can be a bit tricky to put on, not really designed for men to use
Baby Bjorn
pros: very quick and easy to use, easily adjustable for different sizes, easy to get baby in and out of
cons: lots of flappy straps, baby hangs from crotch, digs into shoulders, can only be used for front carrying, can't be used for as long as the Wilkinet.
I use both depending on what i'm doing/ where i'm going.

Glad the little swimmers are enjoying the water. Can't meet on thurs as have swimming lesson with Nat.

Enthusia - would you be tempted to move schools?

Golden - sounds like you mean business!

LilJ - glad that work issue has resolved itself

Londoner - I must be an evil mummy, but I laugh when Nat goes off on one after her jabs - she's such a drama queen.

Probably teaching your grandmother to suck eggs, but my PN teacher said to make sure baby's skin was dry before putting on barrier cream, or it keeps that moisture next to the skin. I also found putting on dream cream from Lush before the barrier cream was quite effective.

Well, have had a busy few days and Nat has a cold so our fab night times have gone to pot. Poor little mite can hardly breathe.

Rodeo · 31/01/2006 11:26

Tessasmum, LOL I am also in Tax return land. What a drag!! Nothing like leaving it to the last minute!

Bob! LOLat the wabby! I'm like that with 'daddies' (mine and my sisters petname for daddy-long-legs!) Good news on winning the Wilkinet, I have a green one, Dp uses it loads now Jess is old enough to face outwards

Jess rolled onto her front last week in the bathroom for the first time to get an unpleasant face-full of the side of the door! She has plucked up the courage to do it again though now

I must confess I hardly know Meadowhall at all!! We should get a good meeting place suggestion from BoB! Although you'll spot me Diege! I'll be the Roy Cropper lookylikey

Photo's are great Enthusia BTW!

Right, back to the forms, urgh....

BEKsmum · 31/01/2006 11:27

Londoner, call me mad but didn't you say Elizabeths jabs were on Wednesday afternoon? Don't want you turning up a day early and stressing yourself out for nothing!!!

This is just a quick one from me as need to get the kids and myself ready before the HV comes to call, she's actually really really good and has taken the fact that I had pnd last time very seriously and comes out specifically to see me rather than Thomas. Not such a good report to give her today though as i know I have started losing the plot again and I'm now back on the "happy pills" (St. John's Wort) still they are kicking in now and I'm just glad I recognised the signs before it got too out of hand

LilJ forgot to say well done for sorting out your work, make sure they give you a nice healthy redundancy package - you deserve it. Hope dh remembers to bring you both back some pressies even if it's only chocolate from the airport you have coped brilliantly this week.

Twinkle sorry to hear your nan is still poorly, thinking of you.

Diege, I'll have a diet coke for you then tonight , by the way I'm not a Rebecca I'm a Tracey!!!

Right best go, speak to you all later BEKs

Diege · 31/01/2006 11:30

LONDONER: yes, we do seem to post in sync don;t we ; hope you get the jabs sorted; imagine how relieved you will feel when it's done. We had card for second set through this morning...must make appointment! NOVA: the info' about nappy rash is great, as this was something I hadn't been doing until you and Londoner mentioned it. Hopefully I can nip it in the bud, though she has noticed it now, and gives out awful screams when 'going' .
Well, I must go because I've noticed that the job application deadline I'm applying for is the 2nd and not the 4th as I thought!! Why do I always leave things till the last minute! Right,I'm going!!!!

Diege · 31/01/2006 11:36

OK,just a final quickie - meant to say too LONDONER that the breast-feeding TV thing is tomorrow, and not Thursday ; would hate to feel responsible for you missing it .
BEksmum: gosh, sounds like your HV is pretty good, and good for you being so on top of things this time round. I also suffered badly with dd2, but apart from the odd dodgy day (usually at the weekends strangely enough)feel fine this time. Let us know how you go on the the St.Johns .
Right, job application!

babyonboard · 31/01/2006 12:42

thanks for the info on slings..i'll see how the wilkinet one suits us and if i don't get along with it i'll just stick it back on ebay.

speaking of checks and injections, they still havent given us an appointment for oskars 8 week check or his jabs. they told me last week that they'd sort it out for me, but still haven't heard. must chase it up!

as for meadowhall are you meeting with toddlers aswell? if so there is a charie chalk style place called the clocktower within the food hall.
otherwise i'd go for the house of fraser cafe as they have really good baby changing facilities.

must go get ready for postnatal group..oskar's got sick in his hair so needs a bath and i need to pump the pram tyres too..argh

we havent heard from chacha in a while, or did i miss something
hope she's okay.

Diege · 31/01/2006 14:01

Thanks for meadowhall info BOB! I think we are a tollder-free zone that day, though am just presuming for Rodeo . If we are, shall we say House of Fraser cafe, on BoBs recommendation?
Enjoy your post-natal group! Remember having inflatable tyres with dd1 (never again - remember the punctures as we live in a very brambly area!). Was just thinking about ChaCha earlier.Hope you are OK .
Well, job application is in draft form, ready to type-up online tonight (phew!). Hard to do with Libby's constant poo-fest .
Right, better respond to those cries..
Diege.

babyonboard · 31/01/2006 15:02

thats quite alright..though i f you wanty better food then the restaurants on the mezzanine of the food court are great..especially the tapas one!
hope you all have fun.

Londoner are you still up for lunch on thursday?
is anyone else planning to come along?

postnatal group was rubbish again..it's all such basic stuff..
they gave us a demo on bathing..like anyone with a baby between 6 and 12 weeks wouldn't have done it hundereds of times already..lol
thats not quite the point though is it . got chatting again and everyone was going for cake and wine...very jealous as i had to come home..oskar was due a feed and i didn't take any milk.
i do have some mobile numbers though so am tempted to venture out again and meet them now he's full and dozy.

know what you mean about inflatable tyres too..such a pain..i'm forever looking out for broken glass etc so i don't wreck them.

oooh..i've posted a nice pic here..i was playing with our photo editor this morning..so fun!

oskar and dp

babyonboard · 31/01/2006 15:09

oooh..and so excited..a thread i started is one of the discussions of the day on the front page..
i'm so sad..must make myself go do boring mummy tasks or get off my ass and socialise...

LilJ · 31/01/2006 16:28

Well tried baby massage again today and even worse than the first time. N. decided to start screaming the minute the class started and then half way through fell fast asleep only to finish off the class by peeing all over me. Then as soon as the class was over he was all happy, cooing and flirting with all the other Mums. But I'm going to keep trying, at least it gets us out of the house. I don't think N's going to grow up to be a naturalist though ...

J xx

novadandypowder · 31/01/2006 17:48

LilJ - Nat used to cry at the massage bit in our PN class. It's only now she's a bit older that she likes it (from about 12wks). Maybe try doing it through his clothes at first so he gets used to the touching? It's worth it in the end, so keep trying

BEKsmum · 31/01/2006 17:49

Hi ya just a quickie from me to say BOB I'm planning on coming on Thursday with Ben if that's alright with you and Londoner. I'll bring plenty to keep him amused!!!

Where abouts is the restaurant in the village, I know where Pizza Express is but not Zero Degrees, I'll be parking in the station car park again i expect.

Londoner if Elizabeths jabs were today hope she is doing oka nd that you're not too stressed, we'll commiserate together on Thursday.

Right have a good night all, off to feed my lot then out with the girls, paying fot the priviledge though as dh is out tomorrow night! Beks

Londoner · 31/01/2006 19:59

hi guys,

just a quickie to say E seems fine after her jabs, good luck with yours tomorrow beks.
bob and beks am def coming on thursday. speak tomorrow.

goldenoldie · 31/01/2006 20:05

LilJ - my DS1 always hated baby massage, always screamed the place down, and of course all the other babies were placid and angelic. Think it works better when they are a bit older. Some classes stipulate over 3 months for this reason.

Might have found a nanny. I'm interviewing on Monday.

BOB - nice pic.

Lost 5/6lbs this week. Had a glass, or two, of red wine tonight to celebrate. Probably put a couple of pounds back on.................

Rodeo · 31/01/2006 20:14

Aw, nice pic BoB! Your men are very handsome Thanks for info on Meadowhall, hopefully we'll arrange to come down to see you southern guys when it's warmer! And congrats on the 'front page' thread! Haha!

Will be toddler-less next Friday Diege! Yay!

Well done on catching your PND (if it is) so early Beks, hope the tablets do the trick,

Oh dear, someones crying her eye's out, night!

tex111 · 31/01/2006 20:17

Sorry to suddenly gatecrash the thread after being away for ages but did I see that you guys are meeting at Zero Degrees in Blackheath on Thursday?! I would LOVE to come along. We're in Blackheath now but I've met hardly any mums yet and was feeling like a real Billy-No-Mates while walking through the village today. Would you guys mind if I tagged along? Will have Rosie and Tobes too but he's pretty good when we're out, especially if pizza is involved.

tex111 · 31/01/2006 20:19

Just read that Beks is bringing Ben so the boys can entertain each other!

tessasmum · 31/01/2006 22:35

I got a giggle today, a real full-on chuckle

Bf-ers beware!! Really shocked myself yesterday when I read the back of the squash bottle and did some adding up. I'm taking about 800 calories a day (yes, 800 ) in squash. No wonder the weight is coming off much slower than last time! Have ditched the squash now and am trying to fill up on water with lime in. If I want to take on 800 extra calories I damn well want it in chocolate

LOVE the Hyde Park idea for the summer, we'd definitely come into London for that.

Nova - must disagree with Wilkinet not being designed for men, Dh uses it quite happily and finds it very comfy. Then again I suppose it depends on the shape of the man

BEKS - really glad your HV is so on top of things and looking after you. Glad you spotted it too, hopefully it won't be as hard to ask for help if you need it this time. I'm sure those girls' nights out will help too!

BoB - lovely picture. I'd say keep going with the PN group even if the content is rubbish. As you said its not really the point anyway. My HV got me along to one after Tessa was born, realising that I was very new to the area and knew no-one. About 7 of us really clicked and although two moved away the other 5 of us are still together and are definately amongst the best friends I have. Only 'problem' is that all our babies were about the same age when we met and we are about to enter 'birthday hell'. Needless to say there are others who have become part of the group and nearly every child will be 3 in February. At last count there are 9 birthdays between 4th and 25th February

Enthusia - very for you about cowardly school - wimps. Also love your photos, the expression on your face in the birth one is fantastic

Better think about bed as Ash is very snuffly. This means he usually wakes up in the night as he can't breathe properly then ends up in with us as that calms him down enough to get back to sleep! That's been the pattern for the past 2 nights anyway!
Night night

Diege · 31/01/2006 22:41

Evening all! Just (very nearly) finished job application, so in a need of a bit of relaxation before bed. Will add finishing touches tommorrow . V. proud of myself, but no guarantees I'll even get an interview of course . Wish I could make the London meet-up, but we will have fun in Sheffield!.
Love the pic BOB (corr, your DH's a bit of a looker ; baby gorgeous too, of course .
Well, time to wake her up for bottle is approaching...
Diege and Liberty.

BEKsmum · 31/01/2006 23:56

Hi girls, just got in, had a great time, although the others weren't as drunk as usual, probably because we were a bigger group.

Tex, weclome back, we've missed you. I did try to CAT you about the last meet up but MN said you weren't accepting Cat's and I didn't have your e-mail address, will be great to see you on Thursday and Ben will be really pleased to have someone to play with.

Right off to bed so I can get up for the school run tomorrow & psych myself up for Tom's jabs! BEKs

Londoner · 01/02/2006 10:23

Hello
Golden - Congrats on the weight... wow, 5/6 lbs that's amazing! Hope the nanny interview goes well.
BoB gorgeous pic!
BEKs sorry to hear you've been struggling, and glad you've recognised it. Maybe worth trying omega 3 + 6 supplement as well? Glad you had a great night out.
Good luck with jabs today.
Tex - how good to have you back! Would be lovely to have you and Tobes & Rosie along tomorrow, the more the merrier.
Tessa - how gorgeous to hear about Ash laughing! V. as still no laughing from E although she is really ridiculously smiley and chatty.... Glad you like the picnic idea. My dh also likes Wilkinet. Hope you had a better night with Ash, how are his snuffles today?
Diege - well done on the job application and we'll try and get some pics of the meet onto the Yahoo site for you.
E had just about half an hour of screaming last night where she was very upset and obviously in pain as she never cries at all usually.. but I gave her some calpol and that did the trick as well as settling her into her bed as I think it hurt her legs when I held her......then she slept right through the night...phew! Looking forward to tomorrow now.
