DH has just rang me and he has bought the snot sucker and the chest rub.

Told him he can be the sucker, he's the bloody Nurse so I am sure he has been near much worse things.

Might have a Snickers to help me through the afternoon, yawn!!

Thanks for the support. Does anyone want to do my cleaning and ironing. I can send it over Grin?

PenguinArmy · 20/12/2011 13:13

Fuck, I managed to break the glass panel in our front door. Emergency glazer called, think I've got the glass up, but worried as all toys were on floor

some people use themselves as human snot suckers...not me

chesire since both me and DH have done I feel I can speak with some authority so make sure you listen Grin we both agree that working if far easier than being the SAHP (DD fed 2 hourly in the night until nearly a year old and I went back to work early by UK standards)

Door is boarded

Immunisation was horrid for her. Proper tears (from me too).

Cheshire - horrid when they have colds, I used to squirt bm up nose but not sure it helped.

MamaMaiasaura · 20/12/2011 15:52

Eek penguin with glass door. Hope fixed soon, what happened? X

PenguinArmy · 20/12/2011 15:56

i might have kicked it Blush

our door has swollen and i couldn't open it, obviously caught the glass instead of the frame

Oops. Lol at "might".

Engelsmeisje · 20/12/2011 19:40

Am signing off for the festive season ladies. Heading back to the UK tomorrow, leaving the laptop at home and the cottage we're staying in doesn't even have mobile reception!

So Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone!

Penelope1980 · 20/12/2011 20:06

cheshire I've got a snotty baby too - have tried the snot sucker and saline which often work, but he still wakes up sometimes really distressed if it builds up again while he's asleep. He's had it on and off for about three weeks, arg. Poor baby, wish I could explain to him what is going on!

Amotai is doing well, snottiness aside, but is really starting to use his limbs and wiggle a lot more. It's more fun to play with him now, but much harder to have the quiet snuggles we used to have before when he's lie on my stomach and doze Sad Funny how at only 11 weeks I am already nostalgic about his previous stages

cheekydino · 20/12/2011 20:46

Snot sucker worked for us with my eldest. Luckily we haven't had a bad cold yet this time but would use it again if I had to - hated cleaning it out though.

Penguin - can't believe you have broken a door by kicking it Grin - that is exactly the kind of thing I would do.

Help - I am having a complete crisis of confidence, probably from reading too many parenting books Blush. Due to reflux issues dd doesn't go down awake in her cot at night - she has a big bf, usually falls asleep during it, then I hold her upright for 30 mins (If I don't she wakes up screaming and is sick) and plonk her in the cot fast asleep - she sometimes stirs and opens her eyes but usually stays asleep. Is anyone else still feeding to sleep? She's 12 weeks now and I've read that this could make it v difficult for her to fall asleep on her own for naps during the day. Seeing doctor tomorrow and not sure whether to push for meds for her reflux or try to work on her putting herself to sleep. She seems in pain when I try during the day, but maybe it's not pain but stubbornness. Argh!! I think it's reflux, but if it isn't I hate the thought of medicating her when actually she just needed sleep training.

Can't remember who mentioned Gaviscon and on phone so can't check, but we did try that and it made her worse! Hours of screaming and constipation Sad

I'm sure I just need to go with the flow a bit more and stop worrying so much about whether what I'm doing is right.

cheekydino · 20/12/2011 20:47

And merry Christmas Engels!

PenguinArmy · 20/12/2011 21:00

thankd cheeky Xmas Grin ignore the books, if you're happy feeding to sleep then do it.

IMO you can nudge their sleep here and there, but you can't turn a inherently 'bad' sleeper good. I did a lot of things that in the end were pointless with DD, too much effort for nothing (just so I could say I did the 'right' things to MIL of all people). Her going off to sleep would be alright for say two weeks and then shatter again.

Also it seems like a lot of Docs don't offer the drugs (or always aware there are some). I can't remember the names of different drugs (researched it when we thought DD might have silent reflux - she was just a really fussy/difficult eater) but you could ask on the reflux thread in feeding?

OP posts:
cheekydino · 20/12/2011 21:41

Thanks penguin. The ridiculous thing is our ds had awful silent reflux, which was medicated from 6 weeks old - easy to sort as he was prem and under the care of a specialist nurse - so I know dd has the same signs etc. I just wanted to avoid meds if poss and we were managing ok until she started sleeping through and changing her routine so feeds are now too near naptimes. I think. Unless I'm just assuming that's the problem as it was with him and that's all I understand. Argh!

Yes, I over-analyse everything. Blush

MamaMaiasaura · 20/12/2011 21:51

Cheeky - I wouldn't worry, eventually you'll replace feeding to sleep with song, story and cuddle. Just follow baby and yourself and enjoy Smile

Hell of night. Ds2 got fever and J had jabs today and screamed so much. This evening she was screaming in pain for ages, gave her calpol which she breathed in and breathing went all bubbly Sad scared us so much. Neighbour is gp and he popped over and checked her over. All ok now x

PenguinArmy · 20/12/2011 22:03

it's so hard not to over think everything though, especially if you are more analytical by nature (i.e. my job). It's silly the things you blame you at times.

awen what a fright for you :( winter newborns suck at times, but just think come summer they should all be crawling around enjoying the limited amount of the sun.

OP posts:
TallyBear · 20/12/2011 22:11

Cheeky I also need to keep Seb upright for a while after eating and sometimes he falls asleep before I put him back down. Sometimes he wakes (or is still awake) and sometimes he's fast asleep. It doesn't seem to have affect his ability to sleep. I also worry about our bedtime routine, we're trying to do one but not doing the same things at the same time in the same order and worried that he'd get a bit confused. I guess if they are tired they will fall asleep..

Xmas Sad for your door PA.

Sorry for all the LO's with colds. And anyone else.

Had day off today Xmas Grin. Dh looked after Seb whilst I had work xmas do, did a bit of xmas shopping and met up with a friend. Had minor panic at how many presents I still had to find, but feeling a bit better now. Still not completely done...

MamaMaiasaura · 20/12/2011 22:47

Everytime Jessica falls asleep Samuel coughs and wakes her Sad gonna be a long night. Poor Jessica, her brothers wake her all day and now all night too Sad

bilblio · 21/12/2011 01:25

cheeky I always fed DD to sleep while I could, so much easier. She did continue to be a rotten sleeper but I don't think feeding her to sleep caused it. She goes to bed fine now but still wakes early. I think that's just her.

Think i'm in for an epic night. DH is spending 3rd night on the sofa, 1st he was ill, d&v, then I was, thought I had flu, now Seth is being awkward. He's fed ever 2 hours from tea time yesterday till tea time today. Then he's upped his game and fed constantly until 11pm. I've spent an hour and a half trying to settle him and he's now feeding again. He normally falls asleep in minutes. He's very windy, he's had 2 lots of gripe water which has helped. He's nearly 10 weeks, so I don't know if it's ill timed growth spurt, because i've been ill, or if I had mastitus yesterday.

He's shattered keeps falling asleep for 30 seconds then wakes either smiling or crying.

MamaMaiasaura · 21/12/2011 07:47

Biblio - hope Seth settled for you in the end and Sad the you and your dp been poorly. So much going round atm.

Well I'm sat on my bed while ds1 and ds2 watch tv downstairs. I've managed to have shower, breakfast and put on load of washing. Ds2 still full of cold and high temp, but he didn't wake dd at all last night. She's still asleep from 11pm. Wonder if the immunisation has made her extra tired. My boobs are bursting waiting for her to wake but I'm not going to complain as know I'm very lucky to have has longer stretch of sleep. I'm not gloating, honestly. I also know that today sell prob not sleep much at all and will need constant contact with me and then I'll feel guilty for ds's not having me. Is motherhood pretty much a permanent guilt trip? Wink

MamaMaiasaura · 21/12/2011 11:47

Is it quiet cos it's xmas or because I pissed everyone off? Blush

MrsHende · 21/12/2011 12:55

I had a good night too Awen - it's amazing how quickly the chores can get done when you don't know how long you have! I even managed to blow dry and straighten my hair! Luxury!

MamaMaiasaura · 21/12/2011 13:27

MrsH - yup it's great when u can get bits done :)

GroovyRach · 21/12/2011 17:51
