Oh no! How awful Sad

Sorry about your bad night cheshire but glad to hear yours was good awen - it varies so much sometimes doesn't it! L wasn't too screamy last night and I even managed to put her down in the carry cot at 9.30 so that's an improvement.

I was going to run out of breastpads today so had to pop to Sainsbury's - picked up chocolate and condensed milk while I was there and now have fudge cooling in the fridge... Grin

LittlePebble · 08/12/2011 15:48

mmm fleecy can i come round to yours please?

Edward sorry about your fence

We have a grumpy baby and winds howling round - not sure our greenhouse will have any glass left by morning. Dog is glaring at me but don't fancy braving the elements with Elijah.

GroovyRach · 08/12/2011 15:48

Yeah I'm gonna have to make that fudge too!! I've ate so much crap today! Had good intentions and made carrot soup but after I had a big bowl of that, opened the jar of nutella and ate it with a spoon!!!

I've been trying to bring back my milk supply. I was feeling guilty about stopping after only a few weeks so want to get back to expressing. Even if it's only for 1 bottle a day. I've been reading up and trying to pump for 10 mins every hr or so. Only managed a few drips Sad. Just hoping its not all completely gone!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 08/12/2011 15:53

Wow groovy I didn't know it was possible to bring it back?
Enjoy your fudge fleecy it is v v rich though im able to eat loads cause I'm a greedy bitch I have a real sweet tooth Grin

GroovyRach · 08/12/2011 16:00

I've read so much that says you can bring it back (hope its true!). I spoke with health visitor yesterday who said that stimulating the nipple enough should help. I'll give it a week and if nothing then I'll stop. She isn't interested in latching on. I have quite flat nipples, struggled with latching right from the start which is why we went to expressing. I tried last night using nipple shields, she went for about 30 seconds then started to scream so took her off. I had all these hopes for breast feeding and it didn't quite happen how I had hoped!

Scheherezade · 08/12/2011 16:00

groovy - as long as a little is coming out then I'm sure it will build back up :) the BF advisor told me (when I was trying to up my supply) to make sure you do both sides twice, and pump for 5 mins after the milk has stopped coming out, but you probably know all that anyway.

Honestly, this child wants feeding every hour! Am defo going to make that fudge too, it sounds lush.

I braved the outdoor elements. Now to do the mountain of ironing :(

Scheherezade · 08/12/2011 16:03

groove - my left nipple used to be very flat and he realy couldn't latch at first, but i found pumping on a high suction helped pull it out

Scheherezade · 08/12/2011 16:05

sorry- missed that you'd said you were already expressing. ignore me!

Scheherezade · 08/12/2011 16:13

OH! what I didn't mention was that when I went to the maternity ward after my c-sec, I was opposite this gem;

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-15181735

Words failed us.

MrsHende · 08/12/2011 16:21

What is this weather like? Only plus point is that DH got sent home at lunch time. He's been working in London since Monday so it's nice to see him, the evenings have been long without him.

I'm sorry about your night Trudyla, we had a very similar one here, L was awake and crying till 4am (from about 8pm), she then slept on me for about an hour then more screaming till 6am when we finally got a few hours respite. She's now been awake since 9am, feeding every hour. I'm shattered...but why isn't she?!!

CheshireDing · 08/12/2011 16:28

Edward you lost your fence??

Trud we had the screaming, feeding, not feeding, saggy boobs last week, I can empathise completely it was hard going. A good few pints of water every day seems to increase my boob size quite rapidly as I too was worried that there was nothing left in them!

P has just had her first set of jabs today so sleep tonight could be pants for us too, she has got a new gro bag today though so I have just washed it and as it's got a smaller head hole we will try that at bedtime.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 08/12/2011 16:54

Yeah Cheshire v strong winds here ATM. It's only at one side I've lost it, it was the neighbour who built it himself and it's always looked a bit of a mess anyway, dh has put extra support on the side we built.

Engelsmeisje · 08/12/2011 17:19

Ironing scheh? What's that then?

dannid · 08/12/2011 17:27

Hi everyone! Just a quick post to update while I have a few spare mins. Havent posted in a while but been popping in every now and then to try to catch up with the thread. Ive probably missed loads but between the two boys I dont seem to have any time anymore...it's starting to stress me out slightly as I am really struggling to get used to not being able to do what I need to do round the house etc. Yesterday I didn't even manage to eat anything until 3.30pm!!! Little B has become very clingy and colicky and seems to want to be held pretty much all the time and won't sleep anywhere other than on us or in our bed..is making it very difficult to give DS1 any kind of attention and is starting to make me feel terribly guilty! Sad I have a new crib (he seems to hate his moses basket) to try out tonight so am really hoping B will sleep in there so we can at least have our bed back!! Was also thinking of trying a sling during the day...can anyone make any recommendations?
On a positive note though B is feeding well and putting on plenty of weight...is now 9lb 6 1/2oz!!
Sorry for such a moany post...I hope u are all well and getting on ok!! Oh and the fudge sounds scrummy, may have to try that to lift my spirits Grin

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 08/12/2011 17:30

I have the close parent sling and I like it but I still haven't mastered the BFing position in it.

GroovyRach · 08/12/2011 17:56

Might be a silly question, but should I be drinking a lot of water to try boost milk supply?

Oh and apparently the river Clyde in Glasgow has burst!!

MrsP81 · 08/12/2011 18:24

We've had no internet connection since Friday and I've been completely lost without it! Back now though, hurrah.

That fudge sounds delicious and so easy, think I will be trying that out. Smile

dannid I have a moby wrap and have also just bought a connecta carrier. I find the moby a bit fiddly but once DD is in it's fab!

We have had some rubbish nights recently, lots of screaming and not feeding etc but last night was much calmer thank goodness. I don't hold out much hope of it continuing though.

Hope this windy weather goes away soon.......

PenguinArmy · 08/12/2011 19:37

groovy you don't need to worry about what you eat contrary to urban myth as long as you drink to thirst. In fact drinking excessive amounts of water (i.e. for the sake of it) can make things worse.

It is really good to have a pumping session in the middle of the night though

good luck

DS spends a lot of time in the sling

Fleecy · 08/12/2011 19:59

We have the Close carrier too - borrowed it from a lovely MNer who lives near me and have used it twice so far. L is happy in it but hasn't yet napped in it and I haven't tried feeding either. But it's easy to get her in and out, comfy and doesn't make my back ache.

CountryMama · 09/12/2011 01:53

Groovy - try a supplementary nursing system for relacation (medela) - it looks tricky but is fab. People use them to bf when they adopt! You feed formula while stimulating milk supply. I use one.

Dannid - I got my sling from 'victoria sling lady' they are great and much much cheaper than any others. I walked a mile yesterday using it! It's great for wearing in the house and snug for the cold weather.

Hope that helps.

mpops · 09/12/2011 04:41

Good luck groovy!

God, you Scotland lot seem to have had a crazy day. Is it meant to carry on or is Hurricane Bawbag (heh!) over now?

Just woke up from a truly awful nightmare involving my baby and I'm dreading going back to sleep. :( Luckily she woke up to feed shortly after so I felt a bit better.

I'm sorry to hear about your difficult days, those of you with toddlers. It must be really hard. I can hardly go to the loo during the day and I've only got one. Don't know how you manage!

I'm avoiding looking at that fudge recipe again or I won't be able to go through the door soon. I'm constantly ravenous and end up gobbling down biscuits and chocolate cos I can't cook with D in my arms. Nightmare. Thank God for walks during the day. Still, fudge... mmmmm.

Does anyone else experience a bad back and aching joints two months after giving birth? It's really hurting.

mpops · 09/12/2011 04:44

Oh and we have a Beco Gemini carrier and I can really recommend it. I'm using it a lot more than the pram. D always goes to sleep when she's in it!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 09/12/2011 05:38

mpops I'm still getting ligament pain down my right leg, and a lot of back pain, my theory is that the back pain is Bad because pregnancy has killed my tummy muscles and therefore my back has no support but BFing doesn't help!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 09/12/2011 06:12

Does anyone else baby make a strange squeaking/gasping noise? Mhairi does it all the time for the first few weeks me and dh panicked everytime we heard it (meaning we were jumping up to check on her every 5 mins)

CheshireDing · 09/12/2011 06:36

Edward P makes lots of very odd noises and her breathing is often changing too. The GP told me they nearly all sound snotty/wheezy until about 3 months (I asked because I thought she sounded like she had asthma and was being neurotic). I also read their breathing is one of the reasons they are supposed to stay in your room at first as your breathing stops them going in to too deep a sleep because they mimic your breathing somehow.

Not sure if Asthma type sounds are the same gasping ones you are hearing but DH is a Nurse and said to me that GP's do expect to see new Parents with babies and random questions so if you are worried def going and see them.
