I just fell on the stairs :(

Friction burn on elbow, jarred back, scraped back and banged head :(

Had a big cry but ok now. ds1 told me to stop crying so I had to! And ds2 came straight over and gave me a kiss, ahhhh

Spirael · 18/10/2011 10:52

Morning all! :) Later than intended, but I'm here properly for a short while. I read regularly, but I barely seem to have time to post! I'm in the middle of a big project at work with tight deadlines, then evenings are spent sorting out the house. How does it get so messy when we're barely even there between work and nursery?!

I'm loving hearing about the various crafting projects. This weekend I'm going to be working on getting M's costume sorted for the Halloween party at nursery. She's going as a bat. Grin Is anyone else doing anything for Halloween with their LOs?

Exciting to hear you discussing DC2, DesperateHousewife. We're looking at starting TTC some time next year as well! Though probably not until the summer, as we need as close to a 3 year gap as we can manage or we can't actually afford another one. Confused DH and I earn about the same, so we can't survive on just one salary and we can't afford to live and put two in nursery on our joint salaries without the free government hours.

Positive thoughts, Trudy! :) I'm sure everything'll go much smoother than you're fearing. Have you considered something like listening to music or leaving a radio on low overnight? Breaking the silence might help you relax.

I seem to have been lucky enough to escape damage on the bust front. I started off a 34D, was a 34F at the end of pregnancy, maxed at 32J when BFing and now I'm a 32E with no particular sagging or emptiness. I have the opposite issue that some of my tops that fitted before pregnancy now can't contain my bust anymore. Though I admit it might all be different after another 1 or 2 children. Wink

On the fruit front, M loves it! Though she is generally a very good eater and will demolish whatever we put in front of her... Except potatoes. Hmm I've persuaded her to eat gnocchi in a spicy tomato sauce and she'll reluctantly have a go at roast potatoes, but aside from that they go straight on the floor. Grr! Fortunately however she does like sweet potato, which makes a reasonable alternative.

Hope everyone's having a good day. :) I'll be back when I get a chance between the mania!

Spirael · 18/10/2011 10:53

I take too long to post... Blush Hope you're ok, MLISC!

kkfairybrains · 18/10/2011 11:01

Hey y'all. had a brill time in london but I am just exhausted after it. Was so glad to get home to dp and E after it and couldn't get enough of cuddles yesterday!
Trude I second what cakes says about the panic attacks. But I also think that as soon as ds arrives everything that your feeling now will seem like a million miles away from how happy you'll feel then. and I love hearing about all the pregnant ladies! So don't worry about that!
Mlic sounds like you've had a bloody productive few days! go you! Makes me feel like I should start my sorting here too. Need to do the attic and decorate our room but just never have a full weekend to do it!
chul I love frijolito! You seem to be feeling a bit better. Is the sickness gone?
Stac how is R now?
Cakes wow poor A is really getting it with the teeth! E is still drooling like mad so im presuming there is more coming
Right i'm off to slimming world to see what damage the weekend has done :(. Oh and on the boobs mine are pretty much the same as what they were too.

Trudyla · 18/10/2011 11:49

mlic You poor thing. I hope you are OK. I love that W came over to kiss you better [hsmile]

cake Thanks for telling me about your therapy experience. Sounds like it worked brilliantly for you on what must have been such a horrible experience! Great that you didn't get anymore panic attacks.
My midwife also suggested that I go back to the therapist. She did give me some coping strategies, I just seem to be not able to use them. So maybe I will give her a ring and see what she says.

I suppose in a way it would be better for the baby to come sooner rather than later, but I just can't see it that way at the moment. Had a long talk with DP just and I think my main problem is worrying about M. DP kept saying we'll be back very soon and I think that puts the pressure on me a bit. Midwife, doctor, DP, mum, everybody says how quickly they think this one will arrive, so I'm wondering, what happens if it's a long drawn-out labour. So we agreed that if it goes on for too long, DP will pop back to reassure M that we haven't abandoned her. Makes me feel a lot better.

chulita, cake and mlic How did you introduce your newborn to your older child? Did you make a big fuss or just slip them in [hgrin] ?

Right, enough of that now.

spirael Are you still trying to sell your house? Did you have anyone viewing yet? Is the house you're trying to buy still available? How funny that your M doesn't like spuds. My M went to the fridge the other day, took out a cold baked potato and started eating it like an apple. Very funny!

kk Great you had a nice time in London and it's so sweet that your are getting lots of cuddles now. How is the situation with your neighbour? Did you have any more trouble?

MalibuStac · 18/10/2011 12:30

Hiya ladies
Bookmarking again. Been hectic my end so still haven't caught up but will try my best tonight. Hope your all well :)

Spirael · 18/10/2011 12:33

Yep, we're still trying to sell. But we haven't had a single viewing yet, Trudyla. :( There just seem to be no buyers around at all at the moment.

However at least it does mean the house we're after is still available!

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 18/10/2011 12:39

ds1 was at nursery when I came home from hospital so when he got home from nursery ds2 was in his moses basket asleep. I eventually got ds1 in from playing outside and showed him. He just pointed, said baybeee then went merrily on minding his own business. I think my best advice (but others might not agree) is to not be overly 'don't touch' 'no' 'don't do that' with the older child and let them get used to the baby, otherwise resentment may kick in.

Chulita · 18/10/2011 13:27

trudyla L met S in hospital since I was there for a few days but she didn't take any notice of him tbh. I was petrified of labour/birth after L btw but I bought a secondhand hypnotherapy cd and can honestly say I was really excited to give birth to S so it really, really, really worked for me.

kkfairy looks like you had a good time :) I've still got ms, boo! got my 20 week scan next week though so that's something to look forward to!

spirael it's a rubbish market for selling at the mo, a house we put an offer on back in Feb has been on the market over and year and they've lowered the price to below what they turned us down for...we were cash buyers too so they should be kicking themselves now! Hope you get someone interested soon.
Wrt to halloween, we don't 'do' halloween - I hate the whole thing quite honestly so no costumes for us! I'm busy making christmas things already though Grin

OP posts:
MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 18/10/2011 13:38

That's karma right there chulita :) It may be a horrible thing to say, but it serves them right for being greedy.

I popped into town a while ago and went into The Works. Anyone got one of those nearby? Probably not cos it's a cheap shop for shitty towns Anyhoo I got a 'Crafts for baby' book rrp £14.99 but it was reduced to £2.99! I now have a bit of inspriation for things to make for Christmas presents :)

Does anyone have any bright ideas about where I can get bits of material? I don't want to have to purchase material at a metre a time as I don't necessarily need much for some things (ie bunting) but Boyes (if you even know what that is Confused doesn't stock stuff I like :( I have n my mind, for example, cake style floral naffery bunting for my friend's lo but don't know where I can get the naffery from. I'm thinking 'Laura Ashley' theme. We have a Dunelm about 20 mins down the motorway...I'm going to have to go there I think. Anyone got any ideas other than that?

I also hate halloween. No, no, no to costumes. Infact I virtally ignore halowwen and bonfire night in favour of getting mega excited about December Grin

Chulita · 18/10/2011 13:46

Ah mlic we could be sisters from our last two posts Grin I also bought that book from The Works.

We've got two quilting shops in this town that also sell little squares for 50p ish, perfect for bunting. Have you had a look on ebay? you might get lucky, otherwise raid the charity shops for floral tops, there might be something if you can be bothered looking through them all!

OP posts:
MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 18/10/2011 13:57
Grin

Yes I'd thought of charity shops. There's just no way on this earth my boys will let me browse anywhere, for anything. I was going to have a look on Friday but was stuck in waiting for dh's delivery until 4pm. May put that on my agenda for this Friday, and depending on what I find, go to Dunelm afterwards. It's just such a long way away :(

Erm...sorry to sound a little dense...what is a quilting shop? Do they just sell quilts or something?

And for a novice like me I think that book's brill! You're faaaar more clever than I am at making stuff but I'm lovin' the cot/buggy decoration and the seaside cushion. See, that's what I mean about 'bits' of material. I guess I have to just start hoarding stuff

Oooo some of the boys old clothes may do the trick actually. Not for floral naffery of course...

kkfairybrains · 18/10/2011 14:11

Shit totally x posted earlier and missed that you fell down the stairs mlic :( very sweet about W! Hope you're ok!
Chul that 20 weeks came round quick! Prob not for you if you're still sick though :(
I'm loving all these craft ideas and would love to be recieving them for christmas too! So nice and thoughful

Spirael · 18/10/2011 14:37

I agree Chulita that there just seems to be no-one out there buying at the moment. Our house is cheap compared to the alternatives in the area, and we have a whole load of extras like a conservatory that most of them don't have! So I think it's just a case of there not being anyone around to buy rather than a flaw with the house/asking price.

We have a The Works in yuppie Leeds MLISC. Wink Though I haven't visited it recently. I tend to just make it up as I go along for craft bits and pieces, though I haven't done a whole lot lately. I fear beyond making bat wings, most of my weekend is going to be spent unexcitingly repairing clothes. I have a growing pile from DH, Mindy and even a few of my own things!

Do you have a haberdashery nearby at all? All the ones I know of round here sell bundles of squares of floral naffery fabrics or the offcuts from the fabric rolls. You can get some really good deals on the market too! Though I am a bit spoilt with the huge, static market we have here.

We're not big on Halloween, but I figure costumes at nursery wouldn't do any harm. :) Aside from that we normally put a pumpkin in the window and have a few sweeties ready for any kids that stop by, since we're on a main road so a popular route for them. It's lights off and a note in the window stating Trick or Treat is now closed after 7:30pm though, and every year it's been honoured.

I love Christmas too. Grin IIRC was it Cake last year that wrapped the presents in brown paper with ribbon and decorations like holly/bells/baubles/etc? I might steal that idea for this year provided there's no copyright. Last time my presents were white wrapping paper with blue and silver ribbons. I get way too excited over present wrapping...

Christmas itself is at SILs house, so there's not much point me going OTT on decorations at our house. However the weekend before we are taking M on a steam train ride to visit Santa Claus. Grin It's mostly for us, since she probably won't have any idea what's going on or who the strange bearded man is... Blush [big child]

memphis83 · 18/10/2011 16:44

mlic have you got a market near you? fabric stalls on markets are usually fab, cheap, have the same fabric as john lewis but cheap and they will sell you half meters, you will also get your sewing stuff on a haberdashery stall on a market but sadly I bet it wont match my stall Grin tis one of the best in the UK according to our wholesalers Grin A quilting shop sells really small amounts of fabrics to make the decorative quilts with if looking online for small amounts put in 'fat quarters' we are so lucky in leicester we have the hq of the quilters guild so have all the amazing quilting fabrics there and the market is great (but the haberdashery man is shite!)
spirael we are doing halloween this year but dont usually, L is a tad obsessed with pumpkins and we are going to a family party at the british legion, its cheap drinks, other family member will be there to watch L and a chance to wil a tv so im in Grin but weirdly its a pirate theme and I cant find anything for L to wear so he is going as dracula.

Chulita · 18/10/2011 16:45

mlic they're shops that sells hundreds upon hundreds of different cotton fabrics to cut up and make quilts out of. The squares come from off-cuts of the rolls I think, and they cut some up so you can design a quilt right there and then if you really want. I need to go into town and dunhelm as it happens at some point this week. I don't mind seeing if they've got any floral naffery-type fabrics knocking around just to save you a wasted trip to dunhelm. If the quilting shops have some good stuff I could take pics and I'm happy to post you squares of stuff if you want.

spirael I L would love a steam train ride, I'm so, so jealous! We took her on a train last month and she talks about it all the time.

kkfairy it hasn't come quick for me! this is going waaaay slower than with S.

In the space of 3 hours I've lost my voice. This cold has hung around for over 2 weeks now, no wonder S is so miserable!

WhatSheSaid · 18/10/2011 18:14

Spirael, I can't remember if I already asked you, what was the Kevin McCloud thingy like? My mum's house was on the market for 2 years after she died and nobody bought it...in the end my sister did!

Cake what a horrendous thing to happen to you Sad glad you managed to overcome the panic attacks, did you have counselling?

I remember The Works mlisc! Great for cheap books, I used to get those 1.50 Dickens etc classics there.

I went to the cinema to see the remake of Footloose last night, I feared it was going to be rubbish, as remakes often are, but they actually did quite a good job with it. Nice easy viewing for a Tuesday night.

Not that fussed about Halloween, A has been talking about trick or treating (she's picked it up from TV) but she doesn't actually have a clue when Halloween is so it will pass by unnoticed. It's her birthday party the day before so hopefully she'll still be enamoured with her new trampline which I ordered yesterday.

WhatSheSaid · 18/10/2011 18:15

Oh and I see tsc was right about the Stone Roses reforming, they've just announced their comeback...

Mlisc- yes we have The Works in our town I love the stuff in there, such good value! Hope you're feeling ok, falls on the stairs are nasty.

Another successful night time. The only thing I'm now concerned about is D won't drink cows milk, I've tried twice and he pushes it away. He eats alot of cheese/yoghurt but I just wondered will it make a difference to his sleep if he doesn't have it before bed? He ears a lot of food throughout the day.

DesperateHousewife21 · 18/10/2011 19:38

Eats* obv!

Spirael · 18/10/2011 19:45

M went on her first steam train ride when she was four weeks old, Chulita. Wink Her Grandad is train obsessed, and while I'm not that bad I do like them a lot! I hope we get a compartment to ourselves on the ride, it makes me think of The Chronicles of Narnia or Harry Potter.

It was funny hearing everyone mention Brio... This is on M's Christmas List and might be what Santa brings her. Seemed appropriate after the train ride. Grin A lot of Brio says 3 years +, but this one is only 18 months +.

Meeting Kevin McCloud was great, WSS. Grin We got VIP tickets, so were escorted to the private lounge area, where Mr. McCloud joined the MNers and families for a complementary champagne breakfast. He chatted, posed for photographs, signed books and was generally charming. Though he is genuinely as witty and slightly sarcastic as he appears to be in Grand Designs!

Since I was the one that asked the obligatory biscuit question in the chat, I took him a packet of his favourite biscuits (dark chocolate digestives) and bananas, since he admitted to liking the two together. So he opened them up and handed them out to everyone to try the 'Poor Man's Banoffee' with complementary coffee. There's a picture in my profile of him with the biscuits. :)
