Gosh cake i think id seriously consider moving to Oz if we could be sponserd by a company and have help in moving. Our very good friends moved about two years ago and they love it, i think their little boy was about 18months old when they moved. Not sure about NYC, great to visit and id love to go back but not to live.
Well D woke at 4.50, when he chatted and chuntered on to himself for well over an hour and a half, i didnt go in but i did put my ear plugs in, feel really bad about that but it stresses me out and i can drop off with them in! I know i can hear him if he cries so its not that bad. He fell asleep some time around 6.30 and didnt wake untill 8ish. Dont really know what to make of it tbh, should i leave him, should i get him up????I can see him on the monitor and he has his dummy and a muslim(which he likes to tuck under his chin) so hes ok, just awake and not able to settle himself.
DH has my car today so cant go far, not gona give D a morning nap today we will walk to the new look Morrisons and get as much shopping as will fit in the pushchair. I am also going to cancel my pension payment today, bit of a shame really but when im on SMP it could be my petrol for a month, i have to be realistic unfortunatly. Im really hoping i can afford to send D to the cm for one and a half days from January, i figure it will cost £240 a month, which means after bills etc i shall be left with £72 per month...........hmmmmmmm can i live on that?? Is it worth sending him for 1,1/2 days?? What do u guys think?

viksam · 31/10/2011 10:02

tsc To answer ur question, i have absolutly no idea!! Sorry. Has she ever met him? Does he live locally? I just cannnot imagine someone not having anything to do with their child, how can he be like that. Have u got proof of these 'long term investments'?

Woodlands · 31/10/2011 10:07

Laughing at Vik's D tucking a Muslim under his chin... I agree, it's hard to go off to sleep when you can hear them awake, but they'll let you know if they need you.

TSC I would fry the onions and lamb, then add the curry powder and cook that in the oil for a few mins so the onions and lamb are coated. Then I'd add some stock of some kind and the veg, and cook for however long.

Trudyla · 31/10/2011 10:33

Still no baby. Nuff said. [hgrin]

Last time I never understood why people said they'd get annoyed at people texting and calling (and asking on certain threads [hwink] ) asking for an update. I thought it's quite considerate of the friends and rude of the preggy ones to not appreciate it. Maybe that was because M was so early though [hgrin]
Honestly though, I'm not annoyed yet, but rather touched that people are thinking of me. Might change soon though.

Thanks for all your answers about my current worry. I can see you all roll your eyes thinking, what's it now? [hgrin] I wonder if I will be like that on the October thread with all the newbies. Mmh, should probably think about joining November, too.

woodlands I'm like you and always worry that she might wake up hungry if she doesn't eat as much as normal. I should also try and trust her appetite. Good to hear he slept through.

cake I had that once with M, that she seemed fine on other stuff but puked up my bm. My doctor had an explanation for that which I forgot but it certainly said that it's not the bm's fault, but it's still very good for her to get it. Hope she'll be better soon.

Looks like all the sicklies are getting better now. Good news.

chulita Awww, another boy. I'm so happy for you. Would have been happy for a girl too, of course.

mlic and cake I would consider Oz, cos DP has family there, but it's too far away for our other families here. Neither of our mums would speak to us again, I don't think [hsmile]

tsc I use curry paste, so wouldn't know what to do with curry powder. Is that the yellow/brownish stuff, or a mixture of spices like chilli, cumin and such. If the latter, then you can just mix it with some water to form a paste and then add as much as you want.

Snort at the muslim under the chin [hgrin]

Oh, and mlic, love the nn Luscious-locks.

Happy Halloween all.

CakeandRoses · 31/10/2011 10:37

i loved the muslim-tucking too Grin

tsc i'd do similar to woodlands ref the curry but might use coconut milk and/or tinned toms depending on the type of curry i was after. also chuck in fresh garlic and finish with garam masala. i tend to use paste like mlic but it's basically the same kinda thing.

what a man dd's father sounds i really hope he does man up and take some bloody responsibility. legally where do you stand now she's 18? and did he make those investments?

vik that doesn't sound much to be left with - what would you need to buy out of it? maybe 2 half days at the cm would be more affordable?

i would leave D to chunter on personally - and you know how soft i am. i'd only go in if he sounded upset.

i think oz doesn't appeal to me as it feels a bit bland. i have never been there so i could well be completely wrong. i just love the history, culture and architecture here - i really love old houses and would never get something like our 400yo current house there (obv).

i love NYC but again i wouldn't want to be so far from friends and family plus i'm not convinced it's where i'd want to raise DCs.

CakeandRoses · 31/10/2011 10:40

tsc for a veggie one, i'd do it similar to this recipe but you could just use the curry powder where it says the other spices.

i have no clue about doing a meat one, natch.

viksam · 31/10/2011 12:37

Oh no did i type muslim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!What an idiot, clearly i meant musliN!!!!

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 31/10/2011 13:00

I also chuckled at that vik Grin

Luscious-locks is watching a film Shock

I put Cars on when babyboy went for a nap and he's watched it more or less constantly since!

Oh god tsc he sounds like an idiot! Do u think u will get anything out of him now? how long has it been since u had contact with him?

DesperateHousewife21 · 31/10/2011 16:12

God tsc he sounds like a right prat.

I've been out to the park with D, the fresh air was v much needed. I feel a bit more human now I need some substantial food in me!

WhatSheSaid · 31/10/2011 16:40

G has just got me up at 4.55, won't go back to sleep, happy as you like grinning at me from the sofa.

I loved Melbourne but I only spent 4 months there (while backpacking) so obviously not the same as living there properly. The centre is actually full of lovely Victorian buildings (I know that's not old old, like castles etc but it does feel like it has some history). It also has loads of cultural stuff - I remember going to gigs and art galleries aplenty - but not on a scale like London or anything. And once you get away from the centre and inner suburbs a lot of it is sprawling suburbia (same with all big Aussie cities). If I lived anywhere in Oz it would be Melbourne though. Oz in general has its pluses and minuses - less history etc but there is also a general lack of class consciousness and a "can do" feeling, like there are a lot of opportunities for anyone who works hard. It has also been affected very little by the recession/credit crunch, their economy is very strong at the mo (so Sky Australia keeps telling me anyway Smile)

It is a bloody long way from the UK though and there's no getting around that.

tsc, yep he sounds, um, unique. I'm crap at cooking so I can't offer advice on curry.

HOpe all the sick babies are getting better

viksam · 31/10/2011 21:12

Just had a letter from the docs suggesting i get the flu jab, what do u guys think? Im not sure..........

WhatSheSaid · 31/10/2011 21:30

I didn't get it when I was pg with G, vik - the last couple of months of my pg were winter here and I could have had it for free if I chose to. I'm usually quite pro-immunisation but I dunno - I just didn't really feel it was needed. I've only had flu once in my life and I used to work with kids so was around bugs etc a lot but didn't get sick much. Could be totally different for you though, do you pick up bugs quite easily? I know flu can be quite dangerous if you're pg.

viksam · 01/11/2011 07:53

Thanks wss im usually really really healthy (goes around looking for some real wood!!!) But i did read that it covers the newboen as well so in that case i may decide to have it.
Devon woke at 1ish last night, i nurofend, i think these bottom molars are causing him a lot of trouble, he went back dow after 20mins with no fuss at all but continued to wake/cry out/bang his legs about every 10-15 mins for hours after. I do think most of it was done in his sleep, it must be, what child can keep that up?? I put my plugs in at about 2.45 and slept on and off till 7.10. Aparrently he kept it up for a while longer then went off to sleep properly. If Nurofen doesnt help what the hell will????? DH has been poorly all night and is now feeling very sick, and has gone back to bed! not good!

Trudyla · 01/11/2011 07:55

viks I wouldn't get it, but I am very worried about all sorts of effects after vaccination, so I might be in the minority.

Right, I've had 8 hours brilliant sleep, feel well rested, and 1/11/11 would be a nice birthday. For the first time ever, I am saying (and meaning it), it would be nice for baby boy to come today.

DesperateHousewife21 · 01/11/2011 08:37

D woke up 3 times last night, I was only asleep for the last 2 though. He just seems to scream around half 4 though, will not go back to sleep.

Not got any plans today, need to get a friends birthday present but that's it, might do some Xmas shopping too.

memphis83 · 01/11/2011 08:57

trudyla my friends dh and ds1 have the same birthday and she wanted her ds2 to have same birthday, she ran around a bmx track up and down the slopes, within 2 hours she was in full blown labour....but gave birth 8 mins after midnight so didnt get him out on the same day Grin
chulita congrats on the baby boy!
tsc he sounds like a cock! does Kate want to see him?
cakes ive finally found a wallpaper I like, Laura Ashley, it was £15 a roll over the weekend and wouldnt allow me to buy for some reason and now its back to £34 a roll, gutted! I called L a bad boy the other day, I felt so guilty afterwards, he smacked my mum straight across the face, he hits so hard he bruises and I just snapped and called him bad, my mum reminded me he isnt 'bad' I just dont know how to deal with a smacking child.

L is all better, just a slight cough, but he hasnt been able to get his breath after he coughs all weekend, the doc said he has really forward development and has the co ordination skills of a child over 2! nice to hear but would have prefered her to give him medicine!
He hasnt slept well since the clocks, im exhausted and stressed, moving in 3 days, and wont have the internet until the 19th unless someone has unprotected wifi! we are moving at the right time in the flats next door a chavvy couple have moved in with a saxo with full body kit and loud exhaust, they are fucking rude looking at me like im shit for saying good morning to them! they have been here 2 nights they come home at 10pm, leave again at midnight, home at 6am and leave again at 8 and the heap of shit keeps stalling so he has to rev it right outside our house...ran over Grin
Going to the farm again today, but im so tired, dh is doing his HGV itheory training for next 2 days though so is here til 7am and home by 3pm, bliss!

Woodlands · 01/11/2011 12:09

Afternoon all. I have ended up taking this morning as annual leave - it took me almost an hour to get connected to the internet, and then I had to sort a couple of bits out. We have friends coming for dinner and I wanted to get the cooking done in advance and was worrying about doing it with J around this afternoon - I had hoped he would sleep late this morning and then nap after nursery, but he was up pretty early so I bet he'll sleep this morning. SO I texted my boss (my friend) and asked her if she'd mind if I took the morning off - things are pretty quiet for me this week anyway. I have just spent two solid hours cooking moussaka, veggie moussaka and a feta and spinach pie which are all now in the fridge ready to go in the oven this evening. Hooray!

viksam · 01/11/2011 12:25

Ohhh woods that sounds lovely.

Memp definitely does sound like ur going at the right time! Hope u get some decent sleep soon, I can sympathize completely. But moving on top of it must be stressful.
DH D wakes at 4ish and doesn't go back down properly, see my post above for various antics, I'm really struggling with it ATM,lost my temper last night, not in front of D just to sure but it's so frustrating when u have done all u can and ur only resort is to leave them too it. I cannot imagine what it's going to be like in 8 weeks when he is still like this and new boy is here. It's gonna be hell on earth!

viksam · 01/11/2011 12:29

Should read 'not in front of D just to dh' I have a new keyboard on my phone and it's taking forever to get used to.

vik he's only ever gone back to sleep after 5 nicely once and that was after 2 hours in the park during the day and a v hearty meal!

Hes drinking the sma toddler milk from a carton, the ones that come with a straw. He has about half of one before bed every night so I figure that's better than no milk.

Chulita · 01/11/2011 19:18

viks S is being such a crap sleeper at the mo too, hence my lack of being on despite being home. He was doing 5am wake-ups, Sunday night he was up at 4.00 due to an alarm going off outside my IL's house, L was up 15 mins after that so the whole house was up before 4.30. The last 2 mornings he's been up at 4.30. I don't blame you for being worried about newborn too, I've got 4 months to go and I'm worried about S not settling by then...

woodlands I've never cooked a moussaka in my life, are they worth it? Never eaten one either come to think of it.

tsc fingers crossed for your dad. That's crazy about your sister, is that her decision re induction?

trudy thinking of you, hope it doesn't drag on too long!

memphis what a freaking nightmare! We've got a milkman that comes down our street anytime between midnight and 2am Hmm He drives a diesel van rather than the old electric ones and obviously trying to keep the noise down he turns the engine off every time he stops outside a house (4 on our street) but that means of course 4 loud start ups in the middle of the night, every night except weekends...totally does my head in cos it wakes me up nearly every night.

I'm so tired I just can't get my head around staring at compy screens, I've been in bed by 8 most nights. If S doesn't start sleeping later soon I think I might have a nervous breakdown, early starts and a nearly 3 year old all day, every day, it's too much!

Oh, and I made chili cheese bites this evening and they were better than Number 1 pizza's ones so am well chuffed with that Grin

OP posts:
MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 01/11/2011 19:48

What are chilli cheese bites? And what are Number 1 pizzas? Confused

I love moussaka. Lentil one and lamb one but don't tell cake. Hope your meal is/was lovely woodlands

Sorry to hear so many are still suffering wrt sleep. Just curious as to whether there's a link between naps and good/bad sleep. If I'm rubbing salt in the wound just tell me to fuck off Grin

Quick survey:

How many naps per day
Nap time(s)
Bedtime
Time lo gets up
Sleep through?

Vik I didn't have the flu jab. That's not an opnion on the matter, just saying I didn't feel it necessary for me.
