Hello. Think i was first to deliver off the September EDD thread so waving to see if anyone else out there yet to join me :)
Had my 2nd DD on 26aug by C-sec. We now home but struggling with BF and baby lost 10% body weight in 3days. Started to top up with formula in syringe to try give cracked. Bleeding nipples a rest, but milk is starting to drip out now leaking everywhere! Hoping for a better night tonight after 3nights of hourly feeds and snatching 2-3hrs of sleep.
Anyone else struggling too?

Yeah babies have to be ebf, I have a problem with certain foods not allergy as such (ie i won't die) they just make me quite ill and I'd like to think there was more info on things so if they will take us then I'll do it.

Minkyjj · 18/10/2011 04:44

Sebs - big congratulations and wonderful news.
Apologies for not replying to everyone's posts individually but I am so tired I would struggle to even remember my own name Grin. Lo had a really awful night last night with tummy pains and only slept for about 3 hours. By 2am I took him down to the kitchen and started to sterilise a bottle and boil water to make up a formula feed as he seemed constantly hungry. He has so far been ebf but I thought it was worth a go for some peace. I also decided to try the boots gripe water someone had suggested. Unfortunately he was in such a screaming rage that he choked on the gripe water, it went down the wrong way and he started to choke badly. I was so scared and even ten minutes later I was still trying to see whether we needed an ambulance as he wasaking a rasping sound when he breathed. Anyway, remembered that you do have these scary moments with babies and kept calm and he was fine later so glad I didn't pick up the phone.
Tonight I took summerpixies advice and have been slurping away on sweet fennel tea - can't say I like the liquorice taste but lo seems less windy tonight - either that or he is so tired from last night ! Anyway, also resisted having my nightly glass of wine or cider so that may also have helped.
Dh just been asking what I want to do for my 40th next year as he wants to discuss his on January - can't say I really can think that far ahead as I cannot imagine it with a baby !
Off to hv tomorrow for weigh in - dh thinks lo has really grown on last few weeks.
Hope you are all coping with the nightshift - don't worry this stage doesn't last forever - I remember the 12 week stage really starting to calm and settle with both other dcs and my nct group being the same.

LoveBeingAWitch · 18/10/2011 05:38

Blimey having a tough time, not just ds. Dd is really playing up now and I'm really starting to worry about money now.

Dh is exhausted he's trying to help me at the weekends by getting up with dd but he's not catching up. I mostly don't get back to sleep anyway, have only had a couple of naps since ds was born.

If you are meant to sleep when baby sleeps, what the fuck do you do with dc1? Grin

100years · 18/10/2011 10:22

Minky a tip I have been given re gripe water (not tried it yet) is to put it in the teat of a bottle and let them suck it from that. Might help if LO is really fractious next time. Sorry u had a scare.

Witch hope things get easier for you. Re naps when you have 2 I can't help but will be making a note for the future.

feralgirl · 18/10/2011 11:28

Sebs, how lovely that your DP proposed, huge congratulations Smile

Minky, that sounds really scary! I have stopped doing gripe water since similar happened to us and DD puked all over the bed (again). It's horrible when things like that happen but when DS was weaning a HV taught me the difference between gagging and choking and it's important to remember that if they are coughing or crying then they're just gagging and they'll be OK because you can't do either without air in your lungs; they'll be uncomfortable, but they're not going to die! It's when they stop making any noise that they are choking and you've got to really worry and start doing the heinlich (sp?) manoeuvre (although I have no idea how to do that on babies; my grandad, who was a GP, said to just hold them upside down!)

Love, it's so hard to get any rest with two isn't it? Can anyone take your DD and give you a break? How about reverse lie-ins when you go to bed with DS as early as you can (after he's finished the evening cluster feed)? Failing that, CBeebies or a film for DD while you snooze on the sofa with DS perhaps?

jimmijam · 18/10/2011 12:13

kids channels or a film can work at sending ds1 2 sleep here on the sofa. worked yesterday- except as soon as i drifted off ds2 woke up!!

my gosh i eat like a pig-i cant seem 2 stop myself. i stuff my face wen im not hungry, just fancy the taste of something. and 99 times out of 100 its always junk food. b4 falling pregnant i was size 8-10. am prob a large 10 at the mo but can c myself being MASSIVE very soon if i carry on like this. i need to change my mindset, just dont feel able to somehow :-( im happy with my weight now (tho it would b useful if i could fit into some non maternity jeans), i just want 2 prevent becoming obese now rather than getting there and REALLY struggling to lose it, assuming its harder to lose than not put on in the 1st place

anyone else eating like theres about to be a famine?

feralgirl · 18/10/2011 13:55

Ha Jimmi, I wish I was stressing about being a size 10; I'm 14 stone atm which is ridiculous! I was size 10 pre-DS and never really bothered losing the weight as I knew I'd have another baby. Now I just want to start shifting it but, like you, I am permanently famished!

I have got to get some exercise but need to find a way to do it with DD in tow as she's un-put-down-able so I'm just about to have a look at those buggy things that attach to a bike as my best mate's got one with a hammock attachment for little babies. I want to start running again but I chased DS through the woods the other day and it really made my epesiotomy site ache so I guess there's still a bit of bruising that needs to heal before I try anything too high impact (like DTD for e.g.)

ssmile · 18/10/2011 13:59

Yep another one here who can't stop eating think its combination of breast feeding makes me ravenous at times and eating too much sugar to stay awake even though my head knows sugar only provides short term boost but I too tired all day to get my wilpower to stop. I am tryin to only eat chocolate in the morn so the caffeine is not in breast milk in eve :)
Had crapish night babe awake 12.30-4am, at which point I was in danger of losing it as nursing migraine headache which I can't take knock out meds for. It's linked to trapped nerve in my neck from carrying babe on right shoulder lots to wind. At 4am I just put her in cot with my boob muslin and put white noise app on phone full blast and after 5mins full tears, 5mins fussing she crashed out and slept 2hrs!

OP posts:
ssmile · 18/10/2011 14:03

I've also ordered a static turbo trainer for my bike hoping I can cycle in our back yard with baby watching :) that with 1hr a day walking with school run is starting to tone my legs up a bit. Plus I do 10mins Pilates &stretches a day nothing too much but its making a diff to my waist already, got into size 16non mat jeans now, but had to buy size 20 t-shirts to fit over boobs!

OP posts:
jimmijam · 18/10/2011 18:50

After dd i had a (really old and squeeky 2nd hand) excercise bike that i went in 4 about 10mins 2-3times a week and got back into shape really quickly. After ds1 i did workout videos while dd had aftrnoon nap (& generally igborsed ds screaming cuz he screamed as soon as put down), this time i just havent had much chance 4 excercise so far :-( hopefuly soon.
Still wouldnt solve my eating problem tho. I
i like the idea of no choc in afternoon/eve but know i would never stick 2 it!!

jimmijam · 18/10/2011 18:52

Ooh & lochia stopped, stitches feel fine so just gotta wait 2 get contraception sorted, buy some plain lube then try 2 dtd (dh rather desperate now!)

tiddleypompom · 18/10/2011 19:01

Sorry to hear about gripy babies - wehave had same here for 3 days and nights, but last night and today have been fab. Could be one off so holding off putting out bunting, but it seems we are the latest to find colief drops help. In fact, they have given us our lovely happy baby back :)

Just put him down for his eve nap and come downstairs to find DH in kitchen making dinner with beautifully wrapped gifts for my birthday tomorrow - one from Wilfred to mummy! Cue more post natal happy tears!

Wishing you all long sleeps and happy babes..

candr · 18/10/2011 19:06

Am impressed by those of you doing exercise, have not even begun to think about it. DH back to work today so felt like a long day - he de camped to spare room at 5am when DS had a loud grizzle only for alarm to go off 15 min later. DS slept quite well but I keep nodding off while he BF which scares me - wake up to find him asleep sprawled accross my tummy, don't want to have to get up and sit in chair to stay awake. What age / weight can babies use grow bags? Hppy Birthday for tommorow tiddley Smile

ssmile · 18/10/2011 19:15

I using grobags babe was 9lb when started, if I use light one baby got vest &baby grow on then if cold later I add blanket to feet. Or if I use 2.5tog I only put babe in longsleeve vest which has no legs, and add blanket later if needed.
I only started exercising prop from 5wks+ mainly because last time I just thought I would 'snap back' into shape but my core muscles were so weak my back went and then i spent months miserable trying to do basic day to day stuff. So this time I'm doing my pelvic floor exercises daily learnt my lesson the vhard way.

sebs71 · 19/10/2011 07:39

Happy birthday TP !!! Hope you have a lovely day with Wilfred !

Re gro bags - minimum weight depends on the gro bag. Usually around 7 to 8 lbs. My LO has been in one since about 2 weeks old! She's a real wriggler so covers never stayed on. Though thinking around dec/jan time will need blankets too as gets really cold here (950 feet up and house is more than 200 years old... Brrrr)

And yes, snacking throughout the day!!! And eating big dinners too. Providing breast milk certainly needs extra calories!! But can't get into pre maternity trousers yet so still in maternity trousers which I was looking forward to chucking out :( normal jeans and trousers fit except around the waist!! But I always said I wouldnt worry about weight until after Christmas and still might stick to this ... Enough to concentrate on LO and everything at this stage!

After only 1 hour sleep Sunday night we've had 2 ok nights managing about 5 to 6 hours in total (broken up obviously). Looking forward to next week - half term which means lie ins as no kids to get to school and DP is off too!!

HV yesterday and LO put on 12 oz in 7 days! Finally weight piling on after slow start. No wonder arms aching!

sebs71 · 19/10/2011 07:42

That didn't read right... Meant no school to have to get kids up for... Not no kids!! Must remember to tell them not to shout out before 9am if they can get up out of bed!!!

Milliebow · 19/10/2011 08:39

Morning all! Health visitor here this am so up early rather than dosing. Dd seems to go back to sleep after7am feed so usually make most of it.

Hope you had ace birthday TP. Grow bags- I had forgotten about those. Bought two in sale but think dd is still too small. 6lb 3oz when born. Getting her weighed today at 2 weeks.

Just wondering do your DH/DP's get up at night when they are working? I've been trying not to ask mine and he tells me he has been getting 6 hours at a stretch- I'm exhausted though. Really hard ebf as I can't seem to get a break for any length of time to post on mn wind down. Dd is noisy sleeper and I constantly think she is about to wake up. DH still seems knackered poor lad even though he is getting more than twice the amount of sleep I am.

ssmile · 19/10/2011 09:40

Happy birthday TP. It's beaut morn cold but crystal blue sky, DD had hats&gloves this morn for walk to school, lovely way to wake up gd job I'm morn person :o and had 6-7hrs broken sleep last night so feeling more human. Last night gave Lo fed 2am I held her for 25mins she was a rag doll asleep put her in cot, 2mins later wide awake at usual 3am Grrr instead of picking her up I left her in cot put on white noise app on phone she cried little then fussed then must have gone to sleep as I woke up 4am she cried again so fed in bed and we both went to sleep :) for 2hrs more oooh lovely.

millie my DH doesn't sleep in bedroom with me at mo, he has vstressful job and long hrs and if I want help with DD1 and for him to be home by 6.30pm, he needs to have gd sleep. I learnt after first babe it was just easier this way and he can help early eve if I need it 7-10pm in rtn for his guaranteed sleep overnight. Can ur DH help at one end of the day either early eve or early morm so you can get 2-3hr sleep chunk and give Lo bottle of bm or form whilst u asleep? It does mean my DH is on the sofa, last time we had airbed, but its only for a few mths until we get more settled.

feralgirl · 19/10/2011 12:35

Millie, we're like Ssmile; DH sleeps in spare room with monitor for DS while DD and I co-sleep. DH is rubbish in the middle of the night, his first reaction to getting woken up is to be pissed off so I have learnt that our relationship suffers less this way. Ironically, I am getting more sleep than him a lot of the time as DD only wakes once a night, usually for ten mins or so, whereas DS (2.10) is unpredictable and woke up 4 times last night!

I think that men are just less good at dealing with sleep deprivation. DH will be hellish when he gets home this evening after just one broken night. I will just keep out of his way and leave him alone with the XBox Hmm

Gorgeous weather here too but but not too cold as we're so far south west so I'm looking forward to taking the DCs out for a walk this arvo. I love it when it's like this and I can get out my scarves and winter coat although my gorgeous London Fly boots are too tight for my fatty post-pg legs atm Sad

Hope you've got nice weather for your birthday too TP Smile and that you're having a lovely day with great pressies and some Wine this evening.

jimmijam · 19/10/2011 12:38

Lo is 5+4 today & weighs 12lb 15oz!
&
Had his 1st proper laugh this morning!!!! I cried. He has a ticklish neck
not sure wether 2 tell dh or let him discover 4 himself after work...
Ds1 had his 4th birthday yesterday :-)
Watching sarah beeny restoration thing. Didnt realise she has 4 kids, all boys i think.
Lo currently filling (prob overfilling) his nappy

signed up 4 eat study. Now glad i didnt give lo any formula top ups,.just havr 2 keep it that way til he's 6months old

100years · 19/10/2011 13:56

Jimmi, I too am eating for England, as yet I've not found a happy balance between healthy and unhealthy snacks, but I'm not worrying at the moment, though like feral I would also like to be stressing about being a size 10, I actually have no idea what size I officially am any more, was about a 18/20/22 pre pregnancy, and have lost lots of weight so a lot of tops are too big now, except over the boobs, and as for trousers, well I'm wearing my maternity trousers with the over the bump bit tucked into my bra strap to keep them from falling down. I really need to go shopping! Maybe tomorrow. Have fun with DTD I'm on the EAT study too :) Yep re keeping LO EBF till 6 months, it seems like a long time, but it's probably what I would have done anyway, but now I'm kind of committed to it.

feral, I personally don't like the buggy things attached to bikes, that's a personal thing though, I just don't think drivers give people enough room when there is just a bike, and having been knocked off a bike myself I wouldn't want LO in an attachment to the bike. I will however get a bike seat when she is big enough.

ssmile, I have a turbo trainer, it's just getting it set up now, I think my episiotomy is healed enough now to brave sitting on a bike seat. Although I also have a cross trainer in the kitchen so I can go on that too.

TP have a great day.

I just missed out on taking the most wonderful smile picture of LO. She's happily playing on her mat making chuckling noises and smiling away, camera out and smile stopped, poo. She did the most massive smile last night for OH while he was stroking her head, he said to her 'you've just made my day'

Had a LONG lie in this morning. Fed LO in bed next to me at wish and didn't move from there till nearly 10! :) Woohoo. I'm still not dressed though. I ought to make the most of her kicking about and having fun and get dressed/showered before feeding time again.

100years · 19/10/2011 14:53

Am going to be a human cow, aka donating milk to the milk bank at the hospital to help :)

jimmijam · 19/10/2011 19:16

Good 4 u 100. Iv never been asked 2 do that.
Just polished off almost a whole family size pack of choc chip maryland cokies :-/
Ooh dear.
Lo will b 6weeks old this sat, wen do surgeries usually send out appts 4 6week checks? Havent had ours thru yet.
100 am sure i read that Eat pay travel expenses,.dont suppose u know if its 4 all of us (will travel most of the way by train) or just LO (who's prob free on the train anyway)

Trying 2 persuade dh 2 sleep in spare room @ least 1 night a week,.think im getting there.

feralgirl · 19/10/2011 20:09

100years, OMG, I would NEVER go on the road with one of those buggy things, the very thought of it makes me feel sick! I get a shiver down my spine whenever I see people with their dogs in them out on the road, let alone their kids! No, we have loads of brilliant bike trails near us which is my plan. Good for you donating milk, I really should've done that with DS but I never got it together; I don't really feel as though I've got time now I've got both DCs (haven't even got around to expressing so DH can give DD a bottle yet).

Jimmi, I assumed my surgery would send out my appt but hadn't had anything so phoned and discovered that actually they don't do that.

I too have completely failed to get any photos of DD smiling or doing laugh-type-gurgles. Guaranteed as soon as I get the camera out she starts making weird gurning expressions that are not photogenic at all.

jimmijam · 19/10/2011 21:07

fera i too have been 2 lazy/busy 2 express

100 friends of ours put their 2 dcs in a bike trailer and they LOVE it!! I wouldnt b brave enough 4 many reasons tho- wot if they fell out/ trailer came off / car went into them etc. But thats just me, the nervous type. As i said,.we know ppl who say theyre fantastic and havent had any probs :-)
