Hello. Think i was first to deliver off the September EDD thread so waving to see if anyone else out there yet to join me :)
Had my 2nd DD on 26aug by C-sec. We now home but struggling with BF and baby lost 10% body weight in 3days. Started to top up with formula in syringe to try give cracked. Bleeding nipples a rest, but milk is starting to drip out now leaking everywhere! Hoping for a better night tonight after 3nights of hourly feeds and snatching 2-3hrs of sleep.
Anyone else struggling too?

candr welcome glad u found the thread. Sounds like u doing well with ur Lo. I'm not DTD yet but that's mainly because we can't find a time when one of the girls isn't awake! How do you do it when there more than one lo in the house! :) we've tried couple times but eldest has a radar I swear. She is the little detective I reckon. Last night I was putting her to bed "what's that smell mummy hmm Is that chocolate mummy?" No my shower gel I say wiping away the crunchie bar crumbs I'd been eating whilst she in the bath :o I'm tryin not to give her chocolate and hide my addiction alas at 4.5yrs of age I am starting to fail with the hiding bit she just too darn good!

Well hello there! It has been some time since I was last online chatting to the Sept bus - and it has taken me around an hour to catch up on progress...
Boy, am I relieved to hear I am not the only one!

So our DS is now 2 and a bit weeks, regained birth weight, exclusive b/fed to date. Gorgeous little thing till 2 nights ago when we started the new trend of not settling after each night time feed - growling, fussing and crying if put into Moses basket for an hour plus. Better during the day but still far more unsettled that we had been getting used to! So - exhausted. HV smiles knowingly and tells me to wind him (easier said) and wait till 6 weeks when everything gets easier...

Is this colic? What do I do?! So tempted to top up with formula (though am good milk producer heifer - just so tired). Lots of poo and wet happier every day so hoping it is a 3 week growth spurt?

Lovely to hear next steps in the lives of baby jimmy, candr, sebs, ssmile etc!

tiddleypompom · 16/10/2011 15:26

Happier = nappies...

sebs71 · 16/10/2011 18:32

Yay... welcome back Candr and TiddleyP! It's so weird reading about everyone's LO and how it all seems soooo familiar... the 3am struggle to get back to sleep after a feed, the getting them to sleep in a Moses Basket struggle, the explosive poos, etc etc... very comforting to know you're not in this alone.

Not quite DTD either yet - waiting for lochia to finally stop... !

TP - I couldn't manage the night time feed in the end, and we started giving formula for the 2am ish feed. LO would literally feed for a couple of mins then fall asleep. As soon as she was moved to the Moses Basket she'd wake up, start screaming as she was still hungry and on the cycle would go. Hence, formula... however, now she's totally bottle fed - a mix of my milk and formula - I express throughout the day (every 2 to 3 hours). I've found that much better for a few reasons - namely, she wasn't latching on well and it was getting us both frustrated; she wasn't putting a huge amount of weight on (i.e. didn't gain her birth weight till 3 weeks and 2 days) and with 2 step kids to look after, it was becoming really difficult, disappearing for an hour to BF in my room, whilst they were coming home from school. Not comfortable BF in front of a 12 year old Step Son... so, we've decided to do the expressing and formula mix. That way I can do expressing when it suits, and feed her whenever she wants it but still be with the kids. I feel that at least she's still getting the goodness of the breast milk that way.

Had a nice afternoon - went for a long walk with DP, LO and Charlie the Dog!! LO is now having a major riggle in her vibrating chair and lots of gurgles!!!

AND... had a lovely lovely morning... DP asked me to marry him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grin

sebs71 · 16/10/2011 18:33

Oops... lack of sleep kicking in... meant "wriggle" not "riggle"...!!!

Cheers TP!!!! Yes... I most certainly did say YES!! It'll be a quiet one... not sure of details or anything yet. Haven't got a ring... it was a more spur of the moment proposal (well, he'd been thinking about it for a while) but he did ask what kind of ring I'd like... so excited!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats Sebs, so exciting for you both. Keep us updated on how your plans go (I'm so nosy and love hearing about peoples weddings Grin). Any one got advice on babies vision. ow much can they see at this age 4 weeks and does any body elses baby go a bit cross eyed when sleepy or trying to focus? Someone earlier was saying about dry skin on baby, we use olive oil and it works a treat, baby enjoys the massage too Smile

Jojo1983 · 16/10/2011 21:51

Congrats Sebs will be keeping an eye out for my invite in the post [hgrin]
Baby slept very well last night solid from 5 - 10.45!!! Gave me time to have a nice shower this morning and get some washing done!
Off to have him registered in the morning am so excited!

LoveBeingAWitch · 16/10/2011 22:46

Congrats seb Grin

summerpixie · 17/10/2011 03:17

Congrats sebs.
Candr my DD is extremely boss eyed. MW said it was normal as they develop eye muscles. I'm not so sure with her as ds didn't really have it. My brother had lazy eyes now corrected so I'll be asking for a referral after 6 months which, I think, is the earliest they will be concerned about eye problems. DS didn't get seen until he was a year when he got referred to eye clinic (I have eye issues) so don't worry too much about it at the moment. Anyway thru can't see much at this stage but can notice bright colours. I think their vision is as focused as my eyes are without glasses on i.e everything needs to be shoved right up to my nose!
DD was a big if a sleep monster yesterday but needed to do it to human warmth and I ended up having to sling her for an hour to get things done.

sebs71 · 17/10/2011 08:15

Thanks for the congrats everyone!

Yes my LO goes cross eyed when going off to sleep. Midwife at hospital told me this would happen. They can only focus on close things and like patterns, lines, colour and black and White. My LO stares at the black beams on the ceiling for ages!

Bad night. LO threw up all of her 100 ml feed last night at 10.30. I was covered. It must have travelled 2 feet. Never done that before. Phoned NHS direct who said phone GP out of hours. Ad no other problems they just said to monitor. Well she would not settle in basket at all and pretty much slept in my arms most of night. There was one hour she did sleep in basket. She kept other feeds down but didn't drink usual amounts for any of them. Got HV coming at midday so will ask her about it. LO seems fine otherwise.

So feel so tired this morning...

Milliebow · 17/10/2011 09:37

Morning all, finally found the time to make it to the thread. Kinda nice to hear you having the same problems as me ;) dd is 12 days old and days have run into nights. Still ebf- seems like every 20 mins at times. Dd seems to cluster feed 8 pm till 2 am. She goes cross eye like all the other babes! Also Sebs she quite regularly brings up large amounts of possett. But the makes up for it afterward. Congratulations BTW! Very exciting. Right any one for a Brew? I need one!

tiddleypompom · 17/10/2011 09:41

Bad night here also! Woke at 1.15 for feed ( an hour early), went back to sleep then woke again at 3 and growled, cried, wriggled for 2 hours till next feed. 3 dirty nappies thanks to explosive filling after feeding. I escaped into spare room with baby and here we still are... No sleep so will join Sebs for sleep walk today!

Tell me this passes..!

Oh dear, another nappy - am ferociously cleaning up as HV coming to weigh and I have a fear of nappy contents being emptied over her shiny scales..

ssmile · 17/10/2011 10:08

Oh dear sending sleep dust for afternoon naps. It's incredible how these babies with very different parents in different parts of country all do vsimilar things at roughly same wk number! Yes it gets easier and sleep will rtn, I just keep repeatin mantra in my head do what make my life easier not what I think I should do :o we feeding to sleep, cuddling lots, cosleeping and babe &i a lot more rested &less stressed this time around.
Babe has finally released the poo....4big nappies in night and her final massive explosions yep you guess it the school classroom this morn :o she then had to sit in it for 20min walk home and smiled all the way like "look what I've done mummy", lucky tip I'd on here that I didn't know that those lovely stretchy necks on baby vests means you can peel it downwards not take the poo over babes head! Wish I'd realised that 4yrs ago :)

Sorry i missed tbat bit.. Congrats sebs !!

dh back @ work 2day. 3 days of 5,30am-2pm he'll b a zombie 4 his day off thurs!

sebs71 · 17/10/2011 11:36

Welcome back Millie!!

TP - do you have that foggy headache I currently have and always get after a bad night -- so frequently!!

Ssmile - I find it comforting to know all the babies seem to be doing very similar things at the same stages. Good to know it does get easier - a friend told me last week i'd just got thru the hardest 4 weeks of my life!! And oh no to the explosive poo in school, but funny imagining LO's face on the way back!! They know more than we think I reckon!!

LO seems better - just had full feed and kept it down. Is happy wriggling on play mat now doing her daily aerobics routine and grunting happily!!

Think I could audition well for a zombie movie right now!!

100years · 17/10/2011 13:21

ssmile, yes I think she is a lot more settled now, and there is a little bit of a pattern to her sleep at night. I'm going to look at when she feeds and see if there is a pattern to that, would be nice to know. She started to settle a little earlier last night, would be nice if that continues. We get a similar sleep to you, a long stint 4ish hours and then about 2 hours and then 1 hour, to 4, then 1 then 2.

ssmile/jimmi, that's the thing for me about having a second LO, Edith is a dream really, very placid and chilled etc etc, and so it makes thinking about number 2 very easy, but then you have the what will no 2 be like in comparison, won't stop us trying though, just hope it's not too different.

Alice sorry to hear you are having BP probs.

Hello and welcome to the 'other side' candr, millebow and TP :)

candr, re DTD the first time we did it it hurt a lot and we stopped and took to other fun things Blush the second time less so, the third time was much better, and felt only like the pain was where I have have my episiotomy as opposed to the whole area, it's not pain free yet, but much much better and I think it will be OK again soon, hopefully anyway, will mention it to the doc when I see her for 8 week check.

TP, it does pass :) And if your LO does go over the HV scales he won't be the first one. We also had a mad few days around the same time as you, LO was feeding feeding feeding feeding and quite difficult to wind for a while, but it passed. Just waiting for the 6 weeks growth spurt now!

sebs massive congratulations :) Woohoo a Sept babies wedding :) (we've yet to plan the date for ours)

White noise app, I've not tried using it to settle LO, she seems to be OK most of the time, occasionally she really really fights going to sleep, and I've started to really be able to tell when she is tired as opposed to hungry. No doubt she will change her noises now I've got used to them!

We've just had a lovely weekend away, went to visit friends, stopped at the in laws (even though we're not married yet I'll call them that for ease) had 3 nights in a travel cot and she slept really well :) She's properly chattering away to herself, loves being on her back on the floor/a mat. She's started smiling properly now, although we have wind smiles still there are proper reactive smiles now :) Went to church and sat under the organ, she slept the whole way through the service and songs! Really feel like we are settling into a night time routine now, hoping it keeps up :)

Was mega tired this morning so OH took her for a feed and I slept for another almost 2 hours :) woohoo, I like that. We work well, I'm a night person and he is a morning person so we get a good deal if either of us need some extra sleep :) OH has the day off today which is lovely, just chilling out for the afternoon.

jimmijam · 17/10/2011 13:38

Going away sun 4 a couple of nights 2 c family. Lo will b 6weeks old & meet his mil 4 1st time! Dont know how we'll fit in car with new pushchair :-( cant put anything by back seats cuz dd gets travel sick & we dont want anything 2 get covered in it. Also dont know how much 2 pack 4 lo without overdoing it!

sebs71 · 17/10/2011 15:21

100years - sounds like you had a lovely weekend, and really settling into a routine with LO... you're a week ahead of me, so I'm hoping things will start to settle for us soon too!

TP - my LO has already had a huge wee on the scales! Think it was so cold made her go!!

HV off sick today so no visit, but hopefully getting another HV tomorrow for a visit. Looking forward to finding out weight!

Sooo tired now, but DSD home from school in about 10 mins so no chance of any extra sleep now, but casserole in the oven already so at least tea is sorted!

Jojo1983 · 17/10/2011 15:33

Not a great night for us last night either little man up every 2 hours, dont know how we are surviving but I suppose its just one of them things your body learns to do.
Little man is now a registered person was so exciting and to celebrate we are having Chinese tonight Yummy!
Have started to give LO a dummy as he loves to suckle and this helps him to sleep we were giving him milk in a bottle but as he was only sucking it to sooth himself the extra milk was making him throw up (all over mummy!) Lucky he only sucks the dummy until he is asleep them spits it out.

Jimmi I hope you enjoy your little break away

100 Glad you enjoyed you trip away

Sebs I'm still waiting to hear back from my HV she rang on Thursday but I was asleep so called her back on Friday and just again now and left messages on her voice mail so will hopefully hear back from her today re our first home visit.

OH still got another week off as he managed to take a weeks holiday after the 2 weeks paternity leave and I'm dreading him going back! Who going to keep me sane and help me out!

100years · 17/10/2011 19:50

Jimmi, we've just been away and the boot was rammed full! what with pram, suitcases, travel cot it was jam packed, I think I had everything I needed and there wasn't a mass of extra stuff, it hard though.

sebs, yeah we did have a lovely time. :) Fingers crossed for a routine for you soon too, I'm hoping I've not jinxed things by talking about it, you watch I'll have a mad few nights. Mind you we're due the 6 week growth spurt very soon, so I'm predicting a few sleepless nights.

Jojo, yep you definitely learn how to deal with it. It's not easy having the sleep deprivation, but they are worth it and it doesn't last forever.

We had a bloke out earlier to look at the dishwasher, I overheard my OH talking to him about the sleeping at nights etc, he told the bloke we share it, hmm I laughed at him when he came through later after the bloke had gone and said 'share it?' he said kind of sheepishly, yeah I kind of exaggerated it, I did my Hmm look. LO is EBF and has not had a bottle at night! But we do share day duties.

Thinking of doing the EAT study with LO, need to ring them tomorrow and find out if we are eligible. I have a few food intolerances and it would be good to help in finding out if early weaning makes any difference to babies/children as they grow up.

jimmijam · 17/10/2011 21:07

100 we had eat card thru 2day. Ds1 is lacgtose intolerent, dh has asthma, excema & hayfever & i get hayfever & dd has excema so could b good just sed lo has 2 b completely bf & under 3months old. Will look @ website 2moro as had never heard of it
