Hello. Think i was first to deliver off the September EDD thread so waving to see if anyone else out there yet to join me :)
Had my 2nd DD on 26aug by C-sec. We now home but struggling with BF and baby lost 10% body weight in 3days. Started to top up with formula in syringe to try give cracked. Bleeding nipples a rest, but milk is starting to drip out now leaking everywhere! Hoping for a better night tonight after 3nights of hourly feeds and snatching 2-3hrs of sleep.
Anyone else struggling too?

Ds is peeling like a snake, nothing will help just gotta wait for it to come off, oh and he wasn't late.

jimmijam · 14/10/2011 10:10

ssmile :-).our ds1 was like that wen he was a baby, he only ever went once or twice a week & wen he did it ran everywhere, i remember carrying him upstairs once @ our old house 2 clean him off, holding him @ a distance as it dripped out of his nappy leaving a trail up the stairs! But our dd went every nappy change & still caked all her clothes in it. So far this time lo goes often & so far no big exploders :-)
It'll happen as ur leaving the house :-)

sebs thanks 4 the mam bottle tip. Id imagine travelodge may have a microwave in their kitchen they could stick it in 4 me. Do u know how long they stay sterile 4?

100years · 14/10/2011 10:46

We're an infrequent poo baby too. Was tues to sat then tues then yesterday. And the one on Tuesday went flipping everywhere. Bath and washing everything including her bouncy chair cover was required. Still she seems ok with it only occasionally making a fuss before hand.

Last night she slept for 6 hours from midnight till 6am Grin I did wake at 4 though for a wee checked her and listened to her breathing for 5 mins before going back to sleep myself :) whoop. Possibly a one off but I don't mind those kinds of one offs :)

5weeks old today. :)

Jojo1983 · 14/10/2011 12:18

Thanks everyone for your advice the midwives said today that it was totally normal for him to have scaly skin and to use olive oil so will give that a try.
LO is now weighing in at 9lb 11 so has made up the weigh he lost and some more little guzzle guts.
He also poos about 1/2 times a day a nice yellow colour and starting to smell lol

ssmile · 14/10/2011 13:06

100yrs hopefully the sleep is the start of the magic 6wk marker :)
This time around I got bit down this wk (7wk today), I was so fixated on it will get easier at 6wks in my head then 6wks came and I was oooh its still flipping hard work with two and babe not giving me many smiles, but her sleep pattern last few nights been vsimilar and I am getting 4hr chunk & then 2hr chunk of sleep so that helping a lot. I now starting to build baby social life again looking at buggyfitness class &jolly babies so i can get out of house more.

100 amazing, am sure long sleep wont b happening here anytime soon tho
ssmile i remember our 2nd time being really hard. Theres 17months between dd & ds1. Dd was an angel baby so i expected 2nd time around 2 b easy, 4 me right from the start it was soo hard :-( this time i had poor expectations & its been gr8 (as it can b).
Try not to expect 2 much of urself as that can make it harder. If u can, try 2 just go with the flow. Its less depressing, i think. From memory it took a couple of months or so 4 me 2 get ised 2 going from 1-2 dcs, but everyone is different.
It will all come in time :-)

Alicebw · 14/10/2011 17:48

Jakob is really flaky. i was worried at first when it started on his face but is normal for late babies apparently. I'm fed up at mo as had to come back into hospital again yesterday. jakob ok its mummy thats the problem! Had hypertension in latter stages of pregnancy. it usually improves after birth but mine started going up. was 168/110 yesterday which was a bit scary. so having to stay in. theyre increasing labetalol dose and will monitor overnight. what a bum tho. i want to b at home with my new family ;(

sebs71 · 14/10/2011 18:15

Alice - that's awful... hope you aren't in for long. Can LO stay with you in hospital???

Jimmi - it's only 3 mins in the microwave!

Oooh, a "poo" conversation... since I've started combining breast milk and formula (having trouble with breast feeding so expressing, but don't express enough so combining with formula) we've had poo explosions too! The first time was a shock after nice contained pooey nappies previously. It was just before I had a couple of friends round... managed to clean her, bath her, chuck clothes out (beyond washing!) clean the vibrating chair and settle her just as my friends turned up - impecable timing on their behalf! Since then most poos seem to seep out of the nappies :( She seems to have a good half day / full day without any, and then a spate of them... Still they're nice and "chicken korma" like!

100years - well done!! Hope this is the start of a trend for you...!

My LO is 4 weeks today - hoping sleep starts to settle more (she's doing better first part of the night, but after the 2/3am feed she's hard to settle again and after 4.30ish she loves to be awake!). Feeling exhausted at the moment - not tired, but exhausted. Like I did when in Second Trimester and was low in iron. I'm on iron tablets still, but am bleeding again, so wondering if that's not helping...? Or could just be lack of sleep !!!

Sleep fairies to everyone tonight!!

jimmijam · 14/10/2011 18:56

Seems 2 b a pattern on a few posts on this thread re sleep patterns
our lo sleeps really well most of the night but wakes anytime between 3.30 & 4.30am & stays awake for a good couple of hours feeding on & off inbetween wiggling about trying 2 get a fart out. Often falling asleep around the time my alarm goes off 4 the school run. Waking up soon after i get out of bed.
He's been pretty stroppy most of today, hope it doesnt last!

ssmile · 15/10/2011 03:54

Just tried new tactic on the 3am wide awake baby. She had feed&kick then got sqibbly so I downloaded free white noise app onto phone and she settled in 1min now asleep :) fingers Xed can move her from my arms to crib in next 10mins......

OP posts:
jimmijam · 15/10/2011 08:42

Lo awake 4 a while from 3.30 but then did a huge explosive poo & fell asleep 4 a bit. Oooh may have 2 have a look 4 that app, thanx 4 the tip!!! :-)

ssmile · 15/10/2011 09:35

It worked to get her asleep moved her to crib 20mins later wakes up hohum
She slept rest of night upright leaning back in crock of my bent knees when I lay on mysidei doze with my arm under her armpit.

Why is it that lo can sleep so easily in the daytime (morning especially) but not at night. Last night I went to bed a 1am and he slept in Moses next to bed till 3.30am then fed and was asleep by 4am and then up again for feed at 6.00 then settled by 6.30 until 9.00 then passed over to the weekend dayshift team of daddy and dcs! Not too bad really for a 1 month old but still seems to feed every 2.5 hours and sometimes much more frequent. Really suffering with tummy gurgles and pain which starts very soon after a feed but improves after a big poo. Really don't think his little digestive system likes lactose but I know it will probably work out in next 8 weeks. Last night was so cold and heating was off - up here in the loft lo and I turned into ice cubes. Our heating system is computer controlled and dh knows it's complexities but likes to be in control and so I don't know how it works. I was very cross through the night at the thought of him all toasty down in our bed while I froze up under the stars. Don't think he quite appreciates how often I am up feeding and changing nappies through the night - not alot to ask that I get to do it in a warm room is it !

jimmijam · 15/10/2011 16:58

Minky. Our lo is 5 weeks old 2day & feeds every 2 to 3 hpurs day & night same as our 1st 2 dcs who did this untol abput 6months old, hoping this lo will b the same. Or sleep thru the night sooner ;-)

ssmile · 15/10/2011 17:43

minkyj can you get one of those electric oil radiators argos do them be cheaper than putting heating on overnight and you can use them with a plug into socket timer. I used to use one was cheaper than other forms of plug in heating. Gd for ambient temp in a closed room when u don't want to power up the CH yet.

Our Lo mostly been asleep all day. I actually tried to wake her at 3pm with cold face wash to try get her to feed more than 3mins! She did have a poo this morm 5mins before we due to leave hse for DD1 ballet. Lucky was holding her upright so nappy held the 3.5d poo but her tum still got a lot on there but no sign of another just lots of wifee farts :)

feralgirl · 15/10/2011 20:38

Yeah, we're also loving the white noise; I have it on my kindle and it's brilliant. Works on me too!

DS was a lovely regular pooer, you could set your watch by his two-a-day right from the start but DD just poos little and often which, now that we're on reusables, means a huge nappy wash every day. And I can guarantee that she will poo in the bath every evening; it is a nightmare to clean all the slimy little bits off the bath.

DD was a bit flaky for a while. I put a bit of baby oil in the bath as it's a good way to coat them all over. She wasn't late though, and my friend's DD was 2 weeks early and still flaked. I guess if anyone stayed in warm water for 9 months then they'd be a bit flaky. Her spots are a bit better, I'm just waiting for cradle cap to kick in now!

Think we're hitting the 6 week growth spurt, she was awake every two hours last night and has been a proper milk monster today. I am soooo hungry and desperately thirsty all the time while my body tries to keep up with her!

ssmile · 15/10/2011 20:41

After a bad start this morn DD1 tears &tantrums at ballet class &me wondering why I bothered to give up my sat morn lie in for vungrateful DD, we ended up having a lovely family day out, walking &DD scootering &yum lunch, we all had arvo nap, bedtime with no tears &i just got to watch strickly :) and we had dinner out in pub yester eve with both girls. So yep as we go into wk7, life IS getting easier...... with our first DD my DH and I didn't eat dinner together for 3mths as everynight she used to scream for hrs and we took it in turn to look after her, its lovely to have a very different experience with this Lo.

ssmile · 16/10/2011 03:49

Grrrrrrr having shit night I take it back about getting easier! Baby won't feed properly, snacking 2-3mins, vwindy waking up hourly not want to go in crib and now got hickcups so I've given up put light got a drink of milk and some bourbons biscuits to keep me going.

OP posts:
LoveBeingAWitch · 16/10/2011 03:59

Sad.

Well I've had a good night so far, went 12:30 ish to 3:30 Shock it's the getting him back down after this feed that takes a long time as well though.

Envy @ biscuits

summerpixie · 16/10/2011 05:07

Had a quick read but not of everything so sorry for missing anything out. DD seems to be feeding less lately. She feels physically lighter but I've not had her weighed for 2weeks now. I thought gp would weigh her at 6week check but only checked me.
DD has been sleeping longer at night now. somewhere between 3-4hours so we are slowly getting there. She doesn't really sleep much during the day and has her crying sessions when she is tired and wanting someone to hold her. I have told DH and my dad that they must not hold her at every whimper. I think men are scared of babies crying! My next task is to get DD falling asleep in basket/bed and not on the vibrating chair.
Her poo cycle is sporadic. If she has a poo it'll be a few times within 2hours otherwise there she can go for a few days without anything.
Those who have windy moany babies it maybe mild colic. If you breastfeed drink fennel tea to help and if you formula feed make it up with fennel tea instead of plain water. I don't use hipp ones (rip off) just boiled water in jug dip twinings sweet fennel tea bag in for 20 secs put bag into your tea cup and make yourself a cuppa. DD drinks her night feed quicker with it made up with fennel tea. A friend used to give her DD a bottle of fennel tea before each feed and had no problems with wind and poop.
I am still searching for a half term break. I need somewhere where I can go off to express every 4 hours with a fridge to store milk and a microwave. I tried BF with DD yesterday but she just isn't very good at getting the milk. She bites on the left and stays on the right for far too long without seeming to empty the breast as it still feels half full and she needed topping up with a bottle of prepumped.
Apparently in the states they don't sterilize their bottles. They wash in dishwasher and when making up feeds they microwave them to heat them up. I'm sure us Brits are a bit ott with sterilizing baby things. My expressing bottles and kit instructions say not to microwave sterilize them and just to wash them in hot water and boil every 2weeks. I have done just that and DD seems fine so far (touch wood).
DH and I have been in sep rooms for 2 weeks now and both have been getting better sleep. DS has been ill so sleeping with me and DD has been more settling for him although I keep telling him to cough the other way.
Oops DD is crying must attend. Have a good night sleeps everybody. X

Minkyjj · 16/10/2011 05:26

That's great advice summerpixie - will try the fennel tea. It's just about getting through the windy 3 month stage and then things seem to calm down I remember from dd and ds1.
Ssmile sorry you are having a rubbish night - hope you are catching some zzzzzs now as I post.
Lo won't go back to sleep and won't tale his dummy either which is annoying because that usually gets him to sleep ! Very frustrating as I have to get up soon and would appreciate another 3 hours if possible.
Hope you all have a good Sunday

jimmijam · 16/10/2011 08:19

Fennel tea, not heard that suggestion b4 will c if i can find some in tesco later- while shopping 4 things 4 ds1s bday tea tues. Cant believe he'll b 4 in less than 48hours!! Goes so fast!!

Lo fell aslep during xfactor & i dont remember him waking up til 3.30ish!! :-) tho im sure either it was just a one off or was my sleepy brain bypassing a feed or 2! Can live in hope tho :-) as usual got less sleep from 3.30 but not as bad as usual, yesterday he seemed 2 actually want 2 settle himself after a feed rather than fall asleep @ the breast

our dd is 5.5 , she seems 2 have a rule of @ least 3 where we have 2 ask her to do/ stop doing something @ least 3 times b4 she listens. Wen shes punished after eg no more food after dinner, its "i wouldnt do it again, im sorry..." then does it all over again. We wouldnt shout@ her if she listened, i think she feels like shes treated differently cuz shes often being told off but the cycle continues & i dont know how 2 stop it :,(

feralgirl · 16/10/2011 11:42

That's rough Jimmi, DS is nearly 3 and doesn't listen to a word we say when it doesn't fit with his plans! At least with him he's small enough for me to be able to physically move him away from whatever it is I want him to stop doing (for example I can shut him out of the kitchen when he's bouncing DD so hard in her chair that it looks like her little head is going to fall off!)

I also had a rubbish night last night. DD did her usual wake at 3.30 but then fed and grizzled and wriggled for an hour and a half and then puked ALL over me and the bed. I had to do a complete change of the sheets whilst listening to her screaming hysterically at DH in the spare room and him swearing back at her. Honestly, he takes it so personally when she cries and gets so worked up about it; I got annoyed with him as he was awake for ten minutes and in a big huff about it whereas I was awake for two hours and covered in sick!

He has more than redeemed himself though by taking DS out this morning so that DD and I could have a lie-in (she is still having hers, I have been up since 8.30). I have actually just sat and eaten breakfast, drunk coffee and watched last night's X-Factor without being interrupted! Bliss!

candr · 16/10/2011 14:52

Yeah, finally found where you were all hiding (thanks ssmle). Good to hear most of you are doing well and nice to read that I am not the only one having a few issues. I found the birth very scary as was heamoriging blood through out and was a 4 hour labour with only gas and air, however have beautiful baby boy who s just over 4 weeks now Smile. We are having sleep probs at night though as he has colic in tummy and wakes up in pain. He was in moses basket then when colicky slept next to me in bed, he now will only sleep if lying on me and feel mean trying to settle himself in basket as he seems to be in pain. Have bad feeling I am encouraging a bad night time routine. He feeds a lot and has gone from 5.3lb to 6.14lb but same as some of you uses the boob at night for comfort moe than food. Am trying to space out day feeds today to help at night. We were using infacol but have changed to Colief but are yet to see if it helps. Have started taking him out which feels strange but lovely and he is very well behaved when people want cuddles. Saw some of you are back to DTD which i am scared about - how much did it hurt? do i need a glass of vino first? Hmm
