Welcome to our cosy, new thread.

Dh was laughing when I suggested potential targets. Didn't take long for her to get the ideas. Dd2 did everything possible so I should be ahead of the game!

HarrietJones · 13/08/2011 12:14

Oh & if you have a climber watch out when you have a Christmas tree...

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 13/08/2011 12:19

Grin HJ.

HarrietJones · 13/08/2011 12:20

I recommend fireguards.
They also protect the presents.

TribbleWithoutACause · 13/08/2011 15:51

Seashells How was it today?

DS is a lot better now and is regaining his ability to be into everything.

Work has been once again a bit of an utter disaster, I keep being left to get on with it. The thing is, it has been quite a long time since I've done a lot of stuff at work. My confidence isn't really there yet, and it's taken a bit of a beating being shooved into the deep end. I did speak up about it but it keeps happening, and, if I'm honest it's really stressing me out and leading me back down the path of postnatel anxiety (yet again).

Not really sure what to do if I'm honest, it is affecting me but is it worth bringing it up. As it is I don't really know what I want to do about it all.

HarrietJones · 13/08/2011 16:44

That's what I'm worried about tribble although your deep end is probably deeper than mine!

I'm wavering over mentioning PND at work. It's likely to affect me but there's not a lot they can do.

Hope your day went ok seashells

TribbleWithoutACause · 13/08/2011 17:21

hj I do enjoy my job, I think I was a little bit more fragile before I went back than most and I'm still trying to get my head round it all. I think your deep end is very dependant, I really couldn't do ur job hj nor could I be a teacher. Just not cut out for that kind of stuff.

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 13/08/2011 17:37

Hello! We survived :) dh had a tantrum ing toddler, but dd2 was good :) I ran a bit late with consults mainly due to a new computer system and trying to find everything, but nice clients so breathing a sigh of relief!

My baby proofing is pretty slack, there are gates on the kitchen and their room but I guess ds1 has ensured it's not too bad!

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend

HJ, I'm useless at employment stuff, but you've had some great advice here. I think my only word of advice is not to be too ambitious, work out what is achievable. I say this having seen the hours a friend put in to get an OU degree-the only way she did it was having a lot of family locally who took her kids (and I just dont have that level of free childcare available). Sounds like accounting/book keeping etc might use existing skills?! As I say, I'm useless!

HarrietJones · 13/08/2011 18:43

Weve talked about doing a book keeping course & that's only a few hours a week over a couple months. I could fit it round kids/dh work if I do online. So hoping I can find a course.

Still no news on the garage. V frustrating. I assume no one else has offered though.

Done some allotment today. Still on clearing but it looks much better. We've marked out the new plots too. Should get quite a lot on it.

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 13/08/2011 18:47

Well done Seashells!

Tribble Here's what I would do. It is definitely worth having a word about it and if I were you I would sit down one evening and write yourself a little brief about why you are not happy and what you want to achieve by bringing it up together with a point by point plan for how you wish to be refamiliarised. Ask for an appointed mentor that you can go to for advice. Set up an interview with line management (or whatever its called where you are) and make sure your feelings are addressed with a follow up note made so you know they cannot ignore it. You've been away for nearly a year and when you were pg not able to do the full range of your job so effectively its been even longer since you've been 100% up to speed. I think getting a mentor could be really helpful. Its often great if they're at the same level as you too. Whaddo you reckon? I'm lucky in that there's no point in me being anxious as the job I'm going into is outside of my specialisation anyway so regardless of whether I'd been away it would all be new to me.

I shall definitely have some sympathy/empathy in the future if anyone working with me has returned off mat leave! Although most where I work only take 6 months.

Don't know if I mentioned NoHun but thank you for the recommendation of the ecoballs Smile.

HJ if you were interested in doing something like GP receptionist (working in legal practice as one could be good too) perhaps to boost your CV you could gain some straight forward office based qualifications (if you don't have them already) to show you're IT literate with the latest software, typing etc. Lots of towns have centres where you can do this type of learning and it might not feel so full on as a full time course.

HarrietJones · 13/08/2011 20:27

I was thinking of doing an ECDL mock but since I'd have to pay o can't do that at once. Also night school is difficult at the moment with dds bed time.

We taught dd3 to sign 'finished' when she had finished tea. Now it's being used whenever she's had enough of anything. Dh had a job getting her dressed as she kept signing finished & trying to escape!

NoHunIntended · 13/08/2011 23:34

No worries, Mock. Hope you like them. I do occasionally use a powder on DH's sweaty gym stuff, but generally, the balls work great. Just make sure you get everything drying asap.

Wow, impressive signing, HJ! The sign here for "I've finished my food." is to throw it on the floor! :)

HarrietJones · 14/08/2011 09:25

That's what we were trying to move on from!

Trying to get dd3 to move her big morning feed from 10 to 8 . Not going well. At this rate when I'm at work I'll only feed her all night!

TribbleWithoutACause · 14/08/2011 13:29

hj How are you doing it? I moved ds by going back in sort of half hourly increments (he's bow trying to move it though, the monkey).

HarrietJones · 14/08/2011 13:53

That! It's not working she doesn't feed til she's ready! I was ready at 8 this am & had to pump I was so sore

TribbleWithoutACause · 14/08/2011 14:05

What a monkey!!

HarrietJones · 14/08/2011 18:36

Been to a couple of talks at the breastfeeding festival today. Watched the film 'politics of breastfeeding' which was very interesting. And a talk on baby friendly status. No hospital near us have it or even seem to be trying :(

MonsterBookOfTysons · 14/08/2011 18:42

Hi :)
My flat is becoming baby safe. All my Tuskers ornaments have been moved to the top shelf, the little table with the lamp on it in the hallway is not safe, Dd has at one point had it land on her Hmm It is a very light table luckily and just scared her. She hasnt learnt from it though Grin
She has made me very happy today, she ate all her dinner for the first time in 2 weeks. I gave her sweet potato, chicken and green beans and yorkshire pudding. She played with the green beans and yorkshire pudding and ate the rest as she was distracted Grin

Dd3 had a good tea tonight. Shea had a thing about little things so has been living off cheerios peas and blueberries.
Tonight I chopped a hard boiled egg into little cubes and she ate loads. Cucumber, tomato and potato were picked at and some plums from next door. Felt a bit smug Blushover it tonight as it's all from within our garden except the egg which was from a friend!

MonsterBookOfTysons · 14/08/2011 19:46

Dd just throws all her food on the floor so BLW didnt work for me, she always has some food to pick at whilst I feed her and she has her own spoon Grin

OP posts:
HarrietJones · 14/08/2011 20:23

I still haven't got a spoon near dd3.

MonsterBookOfTysons · 14/08/2011 20:25

Hi HJ :) I gave her the spoon with some sweet potato on today and she ate from it Grin
I love this age, she is learning something new everyday! She clapped earlier and has perfected her wave :)

TribbleWithoutACause · 14/08/2011 20:29

Mock DS is like that as well.

HJ I don't think I'll be able to get to it, my week has filled up very quickly and the outlaws are up at the weekend.

Is anybody else fed up of only seeing denim in shops for little boys? I've been looking out for some new stuff for DS but all I can find is jeans. Not that I have anything against denim, but I'd like to have options.

MonsterBookOfTysons · 14/08/2011 20:31

Trib I had that with ds, and it hasnt got any better now he is 3 Hmm
I am fed up that all you can get for girls is bloody pink, I love pink but green suits dd much better Grin

HarrietJones · 14/08/2011 20:50
