HJ, maybe you could move closer to London!

Trib, I had a perfect attendance too, before all the trouble started - nine years and not one single day off sick. But needs must, and stress can have a huge impact on your overall wellbeing. Good luck at the doc.

HarrietJones · 27/09/2011 09:26

Well done trib!

busyprocrastinating · 27/09/2011 21:25

Hi everyone I've not posted in ages but have kept reading.
We have all had fluey type illness. DD was poorly for a fortnight and just didn't sleep it took me back to when she was a newborn but I didn't have to work then! I was like a zombie and felt so sorry for her Sad Then I came down with it and then DH so it seemed to take over everything for a while.

DD has got 8 teeth now, she is walking and started to say her first few words. If you ask her what dogs do she says 'woof woof' is very cute Smile She is still a terrible sleeper though.

Sorry to hear about the work troubles. Life is too short get out! I know that is easy for me to say though and I really hope you manage to get things sorted.

All the birthdays coming up Smile This time last year I loved reading this thread and seeing all the announcements and wondering who was next. I've got the decorations and DD pressies all ready. Just need to make a cake Hmm but its not till the 12th. What have been your LOs best pressies? (We've got DD a winter coat and boots and a garage) Am just trying to get some christmas inspiration as I am determined to get organised this year and not leave anything until the last minute.

HarrietJones · 27/09/2011 22:24

My mum got dd3 a sandpit today.

Sorry to hear about the flu, shit kids being ill and then trying to look after then when you're ill.

I'm having another shit day. I struggle going to social groups but need to get out & see people so the children's centre has been good cos at least the staff talk to you and don't let you get left out. Anyway they've cancelled our latest group. Everytime I join one it gets cancelled and there's nothing now for dd3 until she's 18m. I feel v sorry for the staff losing their job but it's being run into the ground compared to others I visit with work. I'm going to try & find out who to complain too as the manager just stands there when I speak to him. This is the fourth group in less than a year.
I'm fed up of feeling like I need to kick up a fuss cos people aren't doing their job solicitors, builders, planning dept, speech therapist, bank, HR, payroll, childrens centre, dd1s school, people I am waiting to return my calls at work

HarrietJones · 27/09/2011 22:27

oh & dh pay/boss, travelodge, pram, lovefilm,plumber

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 28/09/2011 08:23

While you're at it HJ can you kick up a fuss with my removals company?! They are late grrrr.

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 28/09/2011 08:37

Seriously though...Sorry to hear about your bad day yesterday HJ. Its rubbish about the groups. Not probably your thing, bt perhaps you could try and get the other mothers together from the binned group and organise something yourself? I like structured groups and am not a fan of the mother and tot get togethers either generally because I cannot be bothered to get to know people and chit chat. Nationally musicbugs and tumbletots are all over the place. If you go to either website you might find one close to you? We really like them and I am gutted that this is our last week of baby groups Sad.

Oh, they're here..........

NoHunIntended · 28/09/2011 11:25

Good luck with the move, Mock.

HJ, hope you get a nice group sorted.

BP, nice to see you! Hope the flu goes away soon.
We're on the 9th. We have got him building blocks, wooden blocks (alphabet and numbers), DH wants him to have a Big Trak, suggested for children EIGHT YEARS AND OVER! Methinks it is more for DH than DS!!! Bless! :) DH wanted one when he was a child but never got one. My brother asked for suggestions, I gave him a few, including a garage, so will have to wait and see what he goes for.

Trib, what news from the doc?

HarrietJones · 28/09/2011 19:21

Good luck mock

How are you today trib?

There's tumbletots here but £5 a time Shock

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 28/09/2011 20:09

So sorry to hear about your work being a pain Trib. I am thinking of you.

Glad you had a great time in Scotland NoHun the pictures are lovely. I grew up there and April and September are always the best times to be there.

HJ Yes its £5 a shot but DD loves it and when you see the set up you can understand the cost. They also do a taster session for £3.50 so you can try it once and see how you like it.

Sorry to hear you've all been feeling crappy BP.

DD is going to like the Queen in October. She's going to have her baby friends round on her actual birthday (14th) and then family coming round the next day. I have bought her a rocking horse and a walker and we plan to get her a locket as a keepsake as I always wanted one when I was little! Smile.

HarrietJones · 28/09/2011 20:31

I can't justify £5 a shot.

floozietoozie · 28/09/2011 21:13

BP, yuck to flu, hope you're feeling better.

HJ, that's one of the reasons I feel so lucky about where I live as there's loads of stuff on for kids and there's always a reasonable option pricewise for something to do. Hope something turns up.

NoHun, I've been meaning to ask, what are you doing about return to work (or not)? When are you supposed to return? I do remember that you seemed to have a long time off, so I'm guessing not just yet. I'm back in just under two weeks now.

Tribble, what would you retrain as if you could?

I got DD a LeapFrog Learn and Groove table, which she seems to like, but possibly not as much as ds does Grin. We've got lots of toys from ds naturally, and in fact her favourite toy seems to be the fire engine from Fireman Sam, Jupiter - which is also ds's favourite..... She got a little dolls house thingie from some friends which she likes, among other things - ds was also desperate to open that one, so I feel we're getting great value out of these 'baby' toys! I went to town with her today and got her her first pair of proper shoes with birthday money.

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 28/09/2011 21:25

Fair enough HJ.

Those sound like cool presents Floozie!

floozietoozie · 28/09/2011 21:25

I've finally managed to send FB requests to you all. The photo is a picture of me with DS aged about seven months sitting on my lap. Thanks to Mock and BP for helping me out there.

NoHunIntended · 28/09/2011 21:38

£5 a time! Yikes!

ft, just accepting you now! :)

NoHunIntended · 28/09/2011 21:40

Oops, hit send but meant to just start a new para!

Work, am due back just before Christmas, but I am just looking into taking some extra time off, unpaid - just working out facts and stuff.

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 28/09/2011 22:49

What are your childcare plans for if and when you do go back NoHun?

Floozie- gotcha- I wondered who this random person was at first wanting to be friends then my obviously slow brain caught up! Grin.

tiredfeet · 28/09/2011 23:01

mock our little ones share a birthday Grin

bp really sorry to hear about the flu, hope you can get some rest and recovery time now. Sooo hard with a job and a baby I know

hj I've just had a big rant at our sure start centre as they are meant to servee three villlages but all thesessions have been in just two, so I haven't been able to get to any (buses rubbish). Really disappointed in them and yes strangely they don't seem good for tinies. I go to a paid for class £3 a session and its worth every penny as it is reliable and friendly and local.

Ds has already opened his birthday trike and loves it to a ridiculous degree. He climbed on it when we got back from work today and pointed at the door, so I had to take him on a little adventure! My other present suggestion would be to get them books, as I know from working in the library that their funding is shrinking massively, and childrens books get have a short lifespan in libraries.

tiredfeet · 28/09/2011 23:03

floozie have you figured out who is who on fb yet? Grin

tiredfeet · 28/09/2011 23:03

floozie have you figured out who is who on fb yet? Grin

NoHunIntended · 28/09/2011 23:39

Mock, DH will take his annual leave and request a sabbatical to cover anything elsel. It would only be short term to cover me until I'd go on maternity leave (hopefully!). Anything else, my mum is desperate to babysit!

Hm, tf, maybe we should get our DS a trike, if it is such a hit!

floozie, I can send you the list of who is who, if it helps? I'll do it, group us on an email, make it easy!

We haven't been to any clubs or stuff - I will start when he hits one.

busyprocrastinating · 29/09/2011 00:27

Thank you I am feeling ok now.
Sorry to hear about your bad day HJ I know what you mean about people not doing their jobs properly- is very annoying!
Some good ideas for pressies. Two sets of GPs have said they are giving us money for DD so might get her some with that and then worry about christmas later.
We started groups for the first time at the start of the month- swimming and sign- they are £££ but I wanted to make sure that I spent my days off doing nice things with DD and not housework or school work.
Had a lovely day today in the sun which all went a bit pear shaped when MIL had a suspected heart attack this evening. DH is at the hospital now he has worked for 12 hours today so will be shattered when he gets in. Sad
DD has only just gone to bed - I am just at a loss at what to do with her sleeping habits she was up at 8.30am and had just a 30 minute nap all day

TribbleWithoutACause · 29/09/2011 20:09

Hi all,

Sorry I've not been on, I went to the Docs and have been signed off and I've also been to a meeting with work as well and they've agreed that until I have a meeting with people at work (bosses etc) and they've hashed out a return plan for me. Person who I spoke to today was very positive and helpful, she said there have been things that have gone wrong but also there were things on my part that I could have done. So I'm happy with that.

HJ I'm off to a teeny toddler group tomorrow, very laid back and informal. Its a church run one, but nothing preachy. I've been going with DS ever since he was a bump.

BP Oh you poor thing, I hope she's ok. Also re DD, could you have 'shush' time where you pop her in her cot for twenty minutes and leave her to play or do whatever. I've been doing that with DS when he won't sleep, I manage at least one cup of coffee.

Floozie I'd love to be a Midwife, I wanted to do it when I was younger. But stupidly changed my mind at the last minute and did something entirely useless. I've been looking into it, but I think it's something I'll do in the distant future.

TribbleWithoutACause · 29/09/2011 20:14

Oh I'm looking to get DS a kitchen, a toy kettle and a toy dust pan and brush.

Not that I'm trying to condition him or anything.

tiredfeet · 29/09/2011 21:42

Grin tribble I like your thinking < off to shop for toy hoover>
