Anyone else's DC not manage a sippy cup? Dd3 still laps from her doidy. She pinched a sippy cup from someone yesterday but still can't do it. She's taken quite a bit ( by her standards)from her doidy today but I'm still concerned about dehydration. Think shell make up the milk at night

NoHunIntended · 23/08/2011 21:12

I wouldn't worry about dehydration if she is still BFing - she'll get her liquids in that way. Shorter 'feeds' are usually for drink, as they aren't as dense, the longer feeds get the hind milk.

HarrietJones · 23/08/2011 21:16

It's when I'm not there I'm worried about. She doesn't do short feeds now either ( unless she gets distracted).

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 23/08/2011 21:39

Short feeds are the order of the day here at the moment until bedtime then its serious feeding and last night twice! I was feeling a bit guilty last night as I expressed at 9 o'clock for nursery then DD woke 30 mins later and really struggled to get enough milk. She was slapping my boob to try and encourage more!

I've had a look at at the NHS slideshow of common childhood complaints and DD could have chicken pox not HF&M. Its one of the 2.

HJ It took DD a while with the sippy cup as the flow is very fast and therefore she wasn't used to it. Water was a non-starter so, to get her used to it, I put something more enticing in it and did half water half orange juice. It worked and she is happy to take water too. She also loves her doidy cup, but has never lapped, she's always drunk from it like we would from a glass. She takes massive gulps! I need to offer more though. I tend to rely on bfing to meet her needs and I should make other fluids available as when she's at nursery its not like a quick bf is available. The expressed milk is all amalgamated so she can't get the thirst quenching bit.

Trib do you use disposable liners?

Hey Floozie good to hear from you!

TribbleWithoutACause · 23/08/2011 21:42

mock yeah I do, I have in the past just flicked the poo off of the fleece but his poos are horrid at the moment. I think it's to do with the fact that he's constantly

TribbleWithoutACause · 23/08/2011 21:46

Stupid phone!! On the floor. I find them pretty easy, you just flick it all in the loo and flush. They do get a bit dampish if you're bothered by that, ds doesnt seem to care though.

hj have you tried a straw?

NoHunIntended · 23/08/2011 22:33

Chicken Pox - aargh, oh no! Hope she is ok, Mock.

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 23/08/2011 22:42

I know NoHun! After some google imaging I'm pretty convinced its chicken pox. I really wanted her not to be a baby when she got it, but you have no choice over these things do you?! i want to obsessively check her in the night now!

HarrietJones · 24/08/2011 07:15

She couldn't do a straw last time we tried. Will have another go. She just doesn't seem to be able to suck other than like bf Confused

Fed a lot last night. Dd3 kept crying. Didn't get her to bed til we went. Was v narky with dh as he wanted takeaway but I couldn't get him/girls to order til 7pm so too late for dd3 and I as I was feeding all night after that. Then she's fed all night, I got squeezed into a tiny space on the bed and not v comfy. Sat sobbing at 2am until dh helped me get comfy & got more painkillers.
Was gutted my happy day crashed into a v low evening.

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 24/08/2011 09:36

Oh dear HJ thats not good. Did DD3 end up having any supper because of the takeaway timing?

DD has chickenpox! Multiple spots this morning. Got a doc appt at 1100 to confirm.

HarrietJones · 24/08/2011 10:46

Yes I gave her tea earlier as she had a few problems with curry & eyes so don't count on it as a meal for her!

Poor dd mock, is this from nursery? Or hasn't she started yet?

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 24/08/2011 11:50

I think it is from nursery but when I rang them they've had no occurrences for ages. However there could be plenty of children there incubating it. DD has a slight temperature, but is pretty chirpy considering. The marks are multiplying before my very eyes!

HarrietJones · 24/08/2011 13:04

Hope she isn't too itchy but at least it's while you're still off. Could have been in a couple months which would be awkward

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 24/08/2011 15:07

Yes I thought that too HJ. Understandably the itchiest ones are on the cartiledge of her ears.

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 24/08/2011 15:07

I know I spelt that wrong....can't be bothered to check it! Smile. I'm sure you all won't mind...

HarrietJones · 24/08/2011 16:38

Arrrrrgggghhhh , just seen a possible job & the website is down!!!

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 24/08/2011 17:29

It will still be there tomorrow fingers crossed!

NoHunIntended · 24/08/2011 18:57

Owww, poor little DD, Mock. Hope it passes quickly - and then at least you've got it out of the way. Hope you are doing ok.

At least the website is down for everyone, HJ!

HarrietJones · 24/08/2011 19:01

It's not on the website Confused it's on an internal job advert sheet but only 2 lines of info. Don't know how to get more Confused

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 24/08/2011 19:31

Ring HR? Whats the job HJ?

Thanks NoHun. According to the doc its unusual for her to get it as she's bf'd and he said it was probably contracted when my mum was feeding her formula the other week as her immunity would have been compromised (although EBF babies can still get it). Due to bfing she shuld recover quite fast, but it might mean she gets it again when she's older. 6 and 2 3's really.

National Treasure on on in the background and Dan Snow and Sian Williams look odd stood next to each other with a foot in between them. Dan keeps looking down at Sian and it looks so awkward!

HarrietJones · 24/08/2011 20:09

Oh I missed it!

Don't want to be too specific about the job but it's in the same field ( sort of) but a less stressful one where I've worked before. It's a senior to my previous job & lot better paid than current one.

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 24/08/2011 20:39

Oh thats a shame HJ. Perhpas you could apply anyway, they might consider your application?

HarrietJones · 24/08/2011 21:08

Will see. It may go to external yet. Going to phone tomorrow & see.

floozietoozie · 24/08/2011 23:49

Mock keep her nails short and get some calamine lotion if she's itchy. Have to say when ds had it he was really ok apart from one day of high temperature, but tbh he had colds that made him more miserable. Hope ths dose is enough to prevent a recurrance. My niece had it at almost exactly tge same age, also bf, and she's never had it again.

I've started watching State of Play on DVD. Oh goodness me. John Simm, David Morrissey AND James McAvoy all in one helping. Can't wait for the next disc to arrive!!

HarrietJones · 25/08/2011 08:21

State of play is brill! The film versions good too though without the eye candy
