Welcome to our cosy, new thread.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
HarrietJones · 22/08/2011 16:52

We've had a busy day finishing school shopping & went to see old friends. That was marred a bit by them saying 'thought you were giving up bf' and 'well she won't be able to when you go back'. They've never been particularly keen on bf but they really wound me up.
Went to my parents for lunch & dd3 was much calmer with the dog when he didn't bark so much. She was happy to play near him & started stroking him when he lay down for a sleep.
She's also eaten tonnes today but is only having first proper bf now. Snacky drink one when we were out & same at breakfast. This usually means a lot at night.

TribbleWithoutACause · 22/08/2011 21:02

HJ Thats sad, but I think when people are still BF past a certain age that they see as acceptable then they start making comments. I get asked it at work as well. It's a bit obvious when you're walking around with a breast pimp. Oh also have you ordered your ERF car seat yet?

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 22/08/2011 21:06

Grin breast pimp!!

HarrietJones · 22/08/2011 21:15

Certainly one of these friends doesn't approve full stop judging by her dds reaction to me feeding newborn dd3.

Do you take a cool bag to work? I was thinking of doing it instead of me forgetting to bring it home every night I'd have a bag under my desk.

Not ordered the seat yet. Think she will last a while yet. Not got much in the way of tall genes.

TribbleWithoutACause · 22/08/2011 21:25

Mock Yes, I have a breast pimp; his name is Gerald Wink.

HJ We're going to order the TWE I think, I'm just hoping that it will fit properly in our car. The person on the end of the phone at the car safety centre said it would.

HarrietJones · 22/08/2011 21:48

That's what we are going for too. Possibly need 2 Confused as there will be 3 cars involved, but need to work out logistics

floozietoozie · 22/08/2011 22:56

Hello all, quick check in while I'm actually on the laptop.

Some sad news on here. I hope those feeling bad mentally and physically get things resolved soon. HJ re the blue badge, DS has one and IIRC the application looks at your worst days - it doesn't have to be consistently bad iyswim. I don't think I had to go into much detail because a diagnosis like cerebral palsy with his degree of impaired mobility makes it fairly straightforward so I may be wrong.

Mock thanks for the FB link. I haven't got around to doing it yet but I will soon. Glad you spoke to your DH btw. That recipe sounds good too.

I'm dreading the return to work more and more. Everything seems so complicated. I'm already wondering how we are going to manage in the holidays. I can really see the benefits of being a teacher at the moment.

DD is sitting up and bumshuffling brilliantly now, and is on the verge of crawling. I still find it strange to come back in the room if she's on the floor and find she has moved to another part of the room. She also looked like she was about to pull herself up in her cot tonight, and as it's on the highest setting, DP is going to have to lower it sharpish tomorrow. It's so different having a baby who can move! I have to say, I am glad she hasn't done any of this earlier. Our playroom needs a serious overhaul to remove objects of danger (ie half the toys in there...) out of reach, and I'm only just feeling I might be up to the job now.

Trib I think what you are feeling re anxiety about something dreadful happening to ds is much more common than you might think. I imagine dreadful scenarios and sometimes have to almost force myself not to let paranoia take over. I left dd with my mum and niece for a few hours on Saturday for the first time and I was really worrying something dreadful would happen, like my niece (aged nine) would accidentally leave something small near her and she would choke. I had to make sure I talked to my niece carefully about it and fight a slight feeling of rising panic as I left the house. Needless to say, she was fine and had a lovely time with them. It's good you are going to talk to someone early on. I hope it really helps you.

Ooh, those nappies look nice NoHun. I did use some reusables for a while with dd but it was ones I'd borrowed from a friend and I needed more to do it properly (and I had so little time to cope with extra washing/no tumble dryer). Also, dd is another frequent pooer and she gets very distressed when her nappy is dirty (three a day minimum - boy has she made up for her infrequent poos in the early days!), so there would be LOTS of washing needed. But I do get tempted to try again, if I could do it properly.

Blimey that was longer than I thought it was going to be! Oh, there's dd crying. She is unusually having a disturbed evening. I think she's coming down with one of her cousins' colds. Oh no.

TribbleWithoutACause · 23/08/2011 09:50

Mock If you like the little lambs, they're having a big sale at the moment. Also have you checked out cloth nappy tree? They've got a classifieds section where you can get preloved nappies pretty reasonably. I use it quite a lot and have bought most of my stash from there.

Nohun Have you seen the blankets that HL do? I'm pretty tempted to be honest with you.

I think my breasts are staging a back to work protest, first it was the mastitus the other week and this morning I've discovered a milk blister. Flipping typical!

NoHunIntended · 23/08/2011 11:24

Mock, you can get disposable liners for nappies, that may help with the heavy washload. We don't bother with them, DS usually does he ablutions first thing on the potty when we wake up, and very rarely has a pooey nappy. Very lucky here!
I also don't put my nappies in the tumble drier, as I don't think it's very good for them.

I have seen the blankets, Trib, and they look lovely, but we already have a few gorgeous blankets, and we rarely use them. We have also really curbed our spending. Did you get a HL bespoke nappy?

So sorry to hear about the milk blister - sounds agony. Ow ow ow.

I sliced my finger open chopping veg last night, woke up this morning in so much pain, it was positively throbbing. The cut is tiny though, looks pathetic! :)

HarrietJones · 23/08/2011 11:24

Ouch to the milk blister.

We've had our offer on the garage accepted! So stressful though waiting, how does anyonebuy a house? We are v excited about the space. Dh has forgot his mobile and I was debating phoning his work to tell him, but I'm not sure. I so cannot do decisions at the moment. Dh has been leaving food out for tea as I can't even decide that. I'm going to be crap at work!

NoHunIntended · 23/08/2011 11:25

*he = his ablutions

HarrietJones · 23/08/2011 11:27

Ouch to the finger too, I did similar last week and the pain/size of cut ratio is ridiculous!

Dd3 seems to have dropped her morning nap. It was only 45 mins ish but has only been happening in the car for the past few weeks.

NoHunIntended · 23/08/2011 13:10

Isn't it! It really was THROBBING this morning, so badly it woke me up! Has calmed down since though.

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 23/08/2011 14:20

Sorry to hear about your finger NoHun. I think nostagically back to those days when I was young and if I hurt myself it would feel fine the next day. Now it hurts for much longer! Are your knives sharp enough? Blunt knives are often the cause of injury.

Thank you for the info on Little Lamb Trib .They have sent me a replacement pocket nappy. They are good, but I've just had 1 delivered from baba and boo and 2 minkis from tiny nippers and they feel loads nicer, although little lamb feel lovely on the inside, the outer lining is not as nice. NoHun the disposable liners was what put me off before as we have a sewerage treatment plant instead of mains sewerage and I'm not sure how it would cope with the liners. But I think some say they're safe for it. But they don't break down like loo paper. DD 'flushes through' so much. 3 No2s between 0830 and 1230 this morning already. The first time I used the reusable nappy it worked out fine and I used a reusable liner and flicked the stuff down the loo. Second time was much more challenging and it was hell to get off. All this stuff about rinsing in the loo flush, well it took about 8 flushes plus more for between rinses...not very eco friendly. Also, my washing machine is rather basic and has no cold rinse cycle. So I'm not too sure anymore how well it will go.

Well done with the garage HJ!

busyprocrastinating · 23/08/2011 17:17

Glad you got the garage HJ
Hope work goes ok floozie it does seem daunting going back but you will soon get into the swing of it.
Hope your finger is ok nohun

We were in your neck of the woods this weekend sea camping. It didn't look very promising as we were driving down and it kept coming on the news about the floods. But we had some really nice weather and a lovely time, we were going to go to the air show Sunday but after the awful news about the red arrow we decided not to. We called at stonehenge on the way home instead as neither me or DH had ever been.

The HV has been this morning for DDs review. DD has got 7 teeth now and is starting to walk more and more

TribbleWithoutACause · 23/08/2011 17:22

mock can you do separate rinses? Also I think the little green earthlets liners are a but like loo roll, that's what we've used in the past. We've got tots bots ones at the moment which seem to be quite good. Otherwise get some fleece and cut that up into liners, you can get fleece quite cheaply and if the poo isn't co operating then you could always chuck it. also with stubborn poo the trick is to sort of dunk the nappy in and out of the lol water and then use the flush. I do this when I forget to use a liner and ds is teething. Bit grim, but I've seen worse.

nohun poor you, I hope you feel better soon. No I haven't yet, I'm still debating it.

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 23/08/2011 18:03

Congratulations HJ! Good news :)

Busyprocrastinating-where were you? We ended up being pretty lucky with the weather-Friday was beautiful!

Ow to milk blister and cut finger-I hope you both are on the mend soon.

We've started to discuss first birthday party's-where did that time go?!

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 23/08/2011 18:06

My iPhone is making me look illiterate again- parties, not party's. Sorry Grin

NoHunIntended · 23/08/2011 18:15

I missed the garage post, sorry - congrats, HJ! Woo hoo!

Thanks all re my finger. It's fine, was just a bit odd how much it throbbed when I woke up, maybe the plaster was too tight. Think my knives are fine, not blunt, was a knife I don't use that much.

Mock, I have never done that flush using the toilet flush thing. Sounds too gross to me!

SEVEN teeth, bp - wow!

We are having a quiet family gathering for DS's first birthday - DH's parents, my mum and my two brothers (would love for DH's siblings to come too but it's such a long way).
His alphabet blocks arrived yesterday, I got them from a seller in the US as they were the nicest blocks I could find, damn customs charged us an extra £20 in VAT, and damn ParcelForce took £8 in 'handling fee'. Daylight robbery. I feel ripped off!

We are discussing Christmas too! Really really hard to juggle both families.

busyprocrastinating · 23/08/2011 18:15

sea we were between corfe and swanage. Friday was lovely dd ended up with a little red face from the sun . Great minds think alike I've just been looking at party plates and stuff for dd.

bestfootforwards · 23/08/2011 18:35

Wow at seven teeth!

hj congratulations on the garage purchase, I love our garage it is amazing how much we have managed to fit into it. I hope you can get more support with the spd I really feel for you.

trib hope the milk blister goes soon. I really admire you for having the resolve to pump at work, I wimped out and ds is on formula in the day, although I think he does most of his eating at night still

Lovely to hear frrom you floozie Smile

Meant to be going on my first date with dh since ds was born tonight, we were planning to go out for dinner but I had to stay late at work for an urgent meeting and now not really in the mood, but seems such a shame not too, have a feeling it could be months before we manage it again!

HarrietJones · 23/08/2011 19:19

Thanks, feels like everything is falling onto place, we have dd3, dh has 2 jobs he enjoys ( though neither are particularly permanent we aren't too worried) , we've the house sorted( bar the cellar which can be done once the stuff is in the garage, garden is done & we've the allotment to expand into. Kids are happy in school, dd1 has friends in her new class, dd2 is still manic but has some new techniques.
Just my legs to sort (ignoring my job til I know how bad it is!)

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 23/08/2011 19:33

Things are on the up HJ Smile.

NoHun Yes, revolting and no I don't want to be doing it either! With this nappy it was deal with it or throw it believe me.

I think DD has hand foot and mouth. Nothing actually on her hands feet or mouth, but she has some blisters on her scalp and 2 on her bits. It could explain why I felt like poo last week with the sore throat and temp as those are the first symptoms perhaps she had them too. Perhaps I've had it before and fought it off but DD is now saddled with the pox. I'm going to take her to the docs tomorrow to confirm its not something else (if I can get in).

TribbleWithoutACause · 23/08/2011 20:35

Mock We had one of those this afternoon, it was a bit grim (I forgot to put the liner in). DH left me to deal with it as he was bathing DS, lovely.

BFF I really couldn't escape pumping at work tbh, as I do shift work there were always going to be times when I would need to pump at work to keep up my supply.

HJ Congratulations on the garage!!
