Hi,
Thought I would start us a postnatal thread. Were still in hospital, here till Tuesday monitoring dd (now named Eva) and giving her the anti biotics. Im missing dd1 loads as I only get to see her at visiting and trying to contain a toddler on the ward is tough.

OP posts:

Yeah Joshua still has a feed during the night. He manages 8oz so I think he's definitely hungry! One feed during the night is bliss though compared to the hourly breast feeds when he was newborn! klou he may need vitamin drops if he's not getting at least 500ml milk each day, unless you use formula in his meals too? Xxx

KLou111 · 25/02/2012 15:56

Lol, hourly overnight = killer!!
Euan was doing 8oz overnight too, and hv had us cut it down and down, til eventually he was having water, then just a dummy. I think aswell though, it was because he was having a lot in the day, so I rang her concerned he was overeating, it just went from there :)
He has formula in his breakfast, and there is full fat milk in most of his meals (they're all home made baby recipes). Also has yoghurt once a day. Hv didn't seem too worried at the moment. He's had a cold, and still has it, so it hasn't helped with his feeds. Poor little fella :(

littlemisslozza · 25/02/2012 20:11

Matthew is still having a feed at around 2am too. My other two dropped their night feed at 6 months and 7 months and then slept 7pm-7am so I'm not concerned at the moment, although hoping it won't be too much longer. They're all different as having three has taught me, you think you've cracked it but then something new comes along to test you....
Matthew has got his two bottom teeth in the last week, much much earlier than my other two who got their first tooth at 9 months and 10.5 months. Little bit unsettled for a couple of nights, easier to just cuddle up to him in the spare bed than keep trying to re-settle him, but a bit of nurofen has worked a treat, not had to try endless remedies (yet.... molars seem to be the worst ime).
Keeping DS1 (almost 4 and a half) busy is the hardest work at the moment. He is a lovely boy and very affectionate, loves drawing, colouring, painting etc but also has soooooo much energy and needs wearing out mentally and physically, and is growing so much too. He is learning to read and tbh is ready for school... only another 6 months to go!

bettyboo83 · 26/02/2012 10:52

Joshua hasn't got any teeth yet though everything in reach is covered in dribble!!

neverlookback · 28/02/2012 21:51

helloooo everyone, ive not been on for ages!!! but here i am, ive caught up and feel reassured that Willow is normal!!! I cant belive she is 6 months on Thursday! she is beautiful and my princess!! She loves food and is on 3 meals a day, with bottles at waking 7oz, 10.30am 4-5 oz, 2.30 4 -5oz, 7pm 5-6oz
Ive stopped dream feeding last week as it was making no difference, she would still wake at 2.30 for another bottle, so now sometimes she wakes at 11pm or she sleeps till 2.30am then till 7. She has slept through twice last week which was amazing but now gone back to waking. I may try the water thingy!!

Willow is quite clingy, in a nice way! but she doesnt stay in her jumperoo or bumbo or babygym for longer than 10 mins at a time, i find myself carrying her on my hip and doing everything with one hand!
she still hasnt rolled all the way over, which im getting slightly worried about, she can go totally on her side but never makes it all the way onto her front, my other two had done it by now. she doesnt like going on her front apart from in the bath were she loves it and sort of crawls with me holding her (obviously!) she loves having a bath with her brother and sister,
my older 2 have been begging me to have another baby tonight which is just hilarious, my broody stage has passed i dont think we will have another, 3 is enough i think for me!!!

anyhows take care all x

WhispersOfWickedness · 28/02/2012 22:37

Lovely to hear Willow's doing well Smile
I wouldn't worry about the rolling, a friend's little boy didn't roll until 8 months and then was walking at 9 months Confused he's still not keen on rolling at nearly two years old but it hasn't held him back at all!
No sign of teeth here, Rosa doesn't even dribble much so I think we're in for a wait! Her cousin/my niece has only just got her first tooth and she's a year old, I wonder if it's genetic Confused

bettyboo83 · 28/02/2012 23:54

We have a tooth today!! He bit my Mum! Still no rolling though. I think I'd rather he rolled than started walking early, at least he stays where I put him at the mo! Xxx

Sarge - we're doing BLW, did the same with DS Smile we're pretty relaxed about it, we just give Rosa food on her highchair tray when we are eating, the same as us mostly and she is doing a really good job of getting some in and learning how to chew Smile The idea with BLW is that you don't reduce their milk at all, they start doing that themselves when they start eating enough. Think the average age for that is about 9 months but milk is fine to make up the majority of their diet until they're a year old. She is already doing loads better than DS and he started reducing his milk at 9 months and weaned by 12 months so we're more than happy with how she's doing Smile He was a big boy as well, so don't let anyone tell you that they need purees because they are bigger/smaller/whatever!

WhispersOfWickedness · 29/02/2012 16:09

Sorry, meant to say, if he is happiest self-feeding, I'd give yourself a break and let him do it, it'd be loads less work for you than making purees! I don't think we would be able to get Rosa to eat puree either Smile

neverlookback · 29/02/2012 21:07

im more of a puree person!! i do a big batch of veg, say sweet pot, parsnip broccoli, or carrot swede and some apple or pear in too, then freeze in these big flexi ice cube trays i got from boots, then i do chicken with some potato or parsnip in smaller cubes so i cam mix and match, the other night i did shepards pic, i just took some of the meat mixture out before i put a stock cube in and did her sweet pot and parsnip instead of mash, she loves it. i do fruit too, apple and pear some with blueberries or necterines etc, shes only just started having meat so she has that just once a day

Willow is lactose intol like her brother was so a lot of jars and cereal have it in so i do make a lot myself, she has cow and gate baby musli for breakfast sometimes with fruit puree in, lunch she has veg and chicken or the shepards pie, then fruit puree, and tea she will have veg puree and fruit, i may try her with a little fromage frais soon so try and determine how intol she is to lactose as it gets a bit hard going for desserts that dont have milk in.

yet to start pasta etc
she has sucked on a few crusts of toast with marg on, it scares me when a bit comes off and she coughs im not sure shes ready??

right pizzas here im going!!!!

littlemisslozza · 29/02/2012 21:42

I'm mainly doing purees too, doing the same sort of thing as neverlookback but he does have some toast, cheese on toast (which he loves!) and some odd bits here and there depending on what we are eating.

KLou111 · 05/03/2012 14:23

Hi all, glad all our little ones are doing fabulously :)
Euan doesn't roll either, he started rolling onto his side at around 10 weeks, that was it, can't get him to do ant more than that still.!
He is spending more and more time on his belly, which is great. He lifts himself up on his hands, then by the knees, but nor both together.

sarge re food, I had NO clue whatsoever, but bought the Gina Ford book of weaning due to it having the amounts in, and some great recipes which Euan loves. It's not the typical GF 'thing' so all you skeptics, take a look, it makes things so easy!

He started having toast last week with his cereal, which he loves.
Have also started making his food a bit lumpier, which he's managing fine :)

Euan had a cold til last Thursday from the previous week Monday, was awful. The first week he woke A LOT and when you've been used to a 12-13 hour sleeper, it was not good for any of us! Anyway, my mum and mil said it may be down to teething. sure enough, last Thursday a little slit appeared in his bottom gum!! Can only just feel it today slightly, takes a while doesn't it lol!!

I've deleted that thread sarge, think they are opinionated twats, nothing wrong with wanting a relationship aswell as being a mum. That's just common sense. I don't know what they've put after my last comment.
Anyway, re the food, didn't buy the book because of GF, bought it as the recipes are great, and tells you amounts. I wouldn't have had a clue otherwise! I was lent the annabel karmen one by our neighbour, but didn't really get on with it :)

Lol, they are so arrogant some people. No you don't need sex (I do personally lol!!), but you still need a relationship, which was my point, but some people are just bullies, sod em ;) My Dh was really scared of hurting me, he wasn't expecting me to pounce so quick ha ha!
Yes, have a look, Euan loves all the food, have start making it lumpier too, so he gets used to it.
He's really off his milk now, so I made him a banana milkshake yesterday with his formula, gave it in the doidy, loved it!

Rehune · 08/03/2012 14:42

Hey! I found this thread like finding a long lost friend!!!

neverlookback · 09/03/2012 22:51

hi rehune welcome back!
Willow slept through from 11pm till 7.30 on tues night which was lovely, id been to get her weighed in the day (17lb11oz) and the HV had said to either try to give her water or to do controlled crying so i think she had been listening!!! but the next night she woke at 11pm for a bottle then 5.20am, i tried water, she sucked for about 20sec then spat it out and was furious!! so then i put her back down, she wasnt properly crying so i didnt go back in at first but then i thought this could really backfire on me because at that time she woule just become fully awake and i would have to get up for the day, so i gave in and fed her, she went back to sleep, but then her brother woke up at 6.15am!!!

when do they say you can stop sterilizing? is it 6 months?

Just checking in with everyone. It is nice to see this thread alive again!

Morgan turned 9 months on Thursday - remember she was due Aug 5th but born Jun 8th. I stuck around here since I figured her development would be in line with the August babies. It is funny because some things she is ahead on and others she is behind. I have to say that having a preemie has really taken the pressure off as far as reaching developmental targets. For us it is more about her gradually progressing and not paying any attention to the norms. I like it this way. It reduces my anxiety a bit.

I am suffering from PND which ebbs and flows. Partially because I lost my Dad in December but I also think I am starting to process my traumatic pregnancy and birth and the obstacles to bonding with an early baby who is mostly out of reach for weeks after birth.

So this is what Morgan is up to now: She has her two bottom teeth with a top one cutting through the past few days. She is rolling, LOVES putting her feet in her mouth and reluctantly starting to experiment with pulling her knees up when on her belly. She weighs 16 pounds!

We are mostly doing baby-led weaning but offering purees as a second stage to every meal. She has not refused a single thing we have offered and she has loved feeding herself since 6 months. Her favorite fresh foods are cherry tomatoes (cut in half), orange segments, babybels, breadsticks and raspberries.

Regarding sleep and schedules, etc, she sleeps from 7-7 then has about 8 ozs first thing, breakfast at 9 which is solid fruits, multigrain cereal and then yogurt; a short nap; lunch at noon which is bottle first (about 4 ozs) followed by solid veggies and cheese and then a savoury (organic jars) and a fruit puree; sometimes a short nap; tea at 5 which is also a bottle first (about 5 ozs) and then the rest is similar to lunch. She has lamb or fish or pork or chicken for lunch and tea. Then her last bottle at 7ish (6 to 8 ozs) and off to bed.

Have I bored you yet with all the details, lol. I know I love to read every single word about what other babies are up to.

Again, it is nice to be back 'in touch' with you ladies who helped me so much during my pregnancy. Adding new photos now.

hi wishwales, morgans routine sounds brilliant, and her diet is fab, shes deffinatly making up now for being so small isnt she!! im not surprised the shock has hit you, it does often happen later doesnt it and takes a while to process and get your head around, you went so through so much, you were quite famous in my house i remember telling dp of your progress when it was all happening!!!!, im really sorry to hear about your dad that must be v hard to deal with at the same time as everthing else you have going on xxx

sleep deprivation is a real nightmare it makes me so low and we end up arguing all the time!
