Hi,
Thought I would start us a postnatal thread. Were still in hospital, here till Tuesday monitoring dd (now named Eva) and giving her the anti biotics. Im missing dd1 loads as I only get to see her at visiting and trying to contain a toddler on the ward is tough.

OP posts:

Question for you all - H has started getting up at 4am and being up for the day, she takes the classic 2 hours after waking nap so I sometimes get to sleep 6 to 7:30-8. Not into that, 4-6am is not a fun time of day for me. She goes to her bed at 7-7:30pm. Is there anything I can do to make her sleep a bit longer? Last night she didn't wake at all before 4am so that was good but she was still well and truly awake when she woke up, all grinning and cooing. She's still sleeping in our room with us so I can't really put her back into her cot because she just makes lots of noise to let me know she's there and awake, and my DH will not be overly pleased about that. Suggestions?

Hi Teladi! Ex-sisterT here! M is the same Sad Waking for a dream feed makes no difference so I've canned it in favour of an earlier bedtime. She slept from 12mn to 6 am but that was after a (rare) glass of wine.........I can't do that every night, can I??Wink
M is much more responsive now, smiling and giggling which DS loves! Hope all is well with everyone. X

Hi everyone. Teladi it may sound crazy but if you can get back to sleep easily could you try dream feeding her at say 1am and then she may go that bit longer? Also I was reading on the 'sleep' boards that you can get babies to sleep longer by rousing them slightly before they would habitually wake, so if she always wakes at 4am, rouse her at 3am Xmas Shock for 3 nights then she sould learn to sleep through on the 4th night. It's called 'wake to sleep'. I'm going to try it on DS during the day to see if he'll nap for longer than 30mins.

neverlookback · 10/12/2011 21:55

this thread is disappearing it wasnt on my thingy of threads id been on, that makes me a bit sad!! or am i a bit sad haha!!

All i have to talk about is SLEEP or lack of it! its starting to get to me, shes still waking twice for a bottle, i feed her at around 11 pm then shes up at 2.30 and then usually at 5.30am and sometimes shes wont go back to sleep after that one and its driving me mad!! i just dont do before 7am!
I am deffinatly weaning at 17 weeks, ive even bought baby rice in ready might even do it at 16 weeks.

my ds who is 3 yrs sent his dummys away to santa on monday and he has been so brilliant about it and has hardly asked for them at all, we are amazed at how well he is doing, today he said to me "dont have dummys anymore me mum" and he was really chuffed with himself, farther xmas has promised that he can have a motorbike for xmas so that is spurring him on.

hope your all good and babies are blooming!

awww im so glad that Bertie is starting to feel better and you too, i think ours were born almost same day? Willow is 30th Aug? Just this morning she was going crazy looking at her brothers ice pop and making a grab for it, and she just stares at food and constantly eats her hands, but in her bottles she only drinks between 3.5 - 5 oz at a time, i think this is why her sleep is still not brilliant (for me!) how much does bertie drink at a time?

When i had dd1 the guidelines were wean from 12 weeks and she was absoloutly fine.

the house is being taken over by large colourful fisherprice toys theres no where left to put anything, and both my other too use them as much as Willow does!!

Hersetta · 11/12/2011 15:20

I have started weaning as well (19 weeks) as Alex started waking up every night for a feed (this from the baby who has consistently slept through from 24 days old). Baby rice didn't have much effect but the last three nights he has had dinner of sweet potato followed by some apple or pear puree, then about an hr later he has his bedtime bottle then bed and we don't hear a peep for 11-12 hrs. he looks so happy with himself for eating and throws his arms and legs around in excitement and giggles like mad. I'm getting the jumperoo out of the garage tomorrow and will see if he likes it.

Sorry, massive gatecrash Xmas Blush. Trying to get in touch with Hersetta ASAP but not managed to achieve direct contact yet as lost the knack with Mumsnet. Anyway, if I don't manage to pm you Hersetta, pls get hold of me as wondered if you might be at a certain company (i*) party on Monday...?

Hersetta · 15/12/2011 14:30

Hey TT - nice to see you again.

Sorry, won't be at the I* party on Monday as they kindly let me go when I was 7 months pregnant and had just finished a project where I worked 14 hr days for 7 weeks as well as weekends and Easter etc. Have fun though - DD really enjoyed it last year.

Firawla · 19/12/2011 00:28

hi everyone
i was thinking the same it has gone a bit quiet on this thread
cant believe they have all grown up so quick that some of the babies are eating food already! the time seems to be flying by. i have not started any food yet, will probably just leave it til 6 months as i dont think he is particularly hungry and still has the tongue thrust (does not make it easy on the occasions ive tried to give calpol!) and cant sit up much etc..
we are doing bit better on the sleep though, have started getting him down straight away after the other 2 so by about 7.30ish most nights ive had them all down for the evening which is great!
never that is great about your ds and the dummy, my ds2 is sooo attached to his. he was 2 yesterday so will have to start thinking about getting it off him at some point, hopefully we can bribe him with some toys eventually..
hope you all have a good xmas

awww, poor bert. i think there's a lot of colds going round at the moment. when mine have cold snuffle babe or the boots vapour rub are quite good for blocked noses (cos u cant give the normal vicks til 6 months+ but those u can). i hope he gets well soon!
we dont celebrate xmas so luckily i dont have to bother making any effort for it either we will just be chilling at home should be quite nice and relaxing Grin

Eviepoo · 21/12/2011 14:54

Hi guys, not been on for ages. I've been catching up with your posts and can't believe some are at the starting weaning stage. Time has gone so fast!
Sarge am glad to hear you are making some headway with Bertie's reflux.

Update from me then. Grace is a darling just so good, I'm a lucky mum indeed. I'm still breastfeeding and as its still okay I'm going to hold off on weaning for a while longer. She is 17 weeks tomorrow so no rush. She regularly sleeps from between 9 and 10 til between 4 and 5 then a big feed and back town then up at between 7 and 8. So that's ok. Some days she sleeps in until almost 9. I just go to bed soon after she does and get up when she does.

We go out almost every day. To bf group, to peep, to water babies etc. hope to start baby signing soon. I've made loads of new friends with mums in similar situations to me. I'm happy and not isolated. Grace has lots of interaction and activity so it's all good. I'm dreading going back to work because I'm having such a good time off.

My DD1 is proving a challenge, they say they go to secondary school and come back a different kid...it is so true. At least she loves Grace!

Eviepoo · 21/12/2011 14:56

Oh and re colds, just the nose spray and calpol and you will be amazed how hey will fight it off and be all the stronger for it.

Teladi · 22/12/2011 19:30

Thanks everyone for the sleep tips - it didn't turn into a pattern although she does still do it sometimes. Just rolling with it.

My DD is 17 weeks tomorrow too :) and am also planning to hold off on weaning for a little while. I am still exclusively expressing for her (I must be mental - 5-6 times a day every day... it has got old) so am looking forward to the stage in her weaning when I can cut down on that. But it just seems a little early at the moment so I am going to wait, although I am not sure that I will wait until 6 months. I have bought in stuff to do the weaning with though like sippy cups and spoons etc, I am looking forward to starting.

neverlookback · 30/12/2011 11:06

Merry christmas everyone and hope you have a happy new year, Willow was 1st up on xmas day at 6.15am then her brother and sister at 7 it was mayhem but they were all very excited and pleased with thier presents!

Have started weaning her in the hope she may start to sleep a little longer at night but no change as yet, shes still 11pm, 2 - 3am then 6-7am, but sometimes she thinks its morning at 5am and thats a killer!! really hope she grows out of that soon! have put her in her own room which is a lot better all round!

theonlyhb2 · 30/12/2011 13:18

just thought i would pop on to see how Harper is comparing to all your babies...can't believe weaning already! Feeling pretty lucky with the sleeping thing, she slept 5 hours a night when home from hospital. Still on boob twice a day and formula the rest. She goes to sleep between 8pm-10pm then wakes 12hrs later for boob and a sleep before lunch at 1pm. Back to sleep around 4pm before bottle/boob before bed. Think we will start weaning soon, she seems interested in it but as she not sleeping less I won't worry yet! No work for me til March then part time. Never thought I would love being a Mum so much

Happy New Year to you all xx

Hersetta · 01/01/2012 16:17

Happy new year all!

Alex celebrated the new year early by rolling over onto his tummy for the first time yesterday morning. Think he surprised himself though because he burst into tears!

We've had a growth spurt recently - he seems to have lost his tummy chub and has grown at least 4/5 cm in a fortnight so he is firmly in 6-9 month clothes now.He has also started to suck his thumb (it looks so cute), but for the moment he only does it when he is tired and wants to go to sleep. When we put him to bed we sometimes hear him slurping away before he falls asleep.

weaning going ok I think - he loves pear, apple, fromage frais, sweet potato, parsnip and we have started using a sippy cups for drinks with meals which he tries to hold and feed himself with.

Have promised DH that I will start to look for a job this week. Hate the thought of going back to work - I have loved being off with DS. I always thought I could never love anone as much as DD, but it is true what they say when you have a 2nd - you have double the love. It's true and i am besotted with my gorgeous DS.

Hello - how are you all?

Teladi · 02/02/2012 13:11

Hi evie - we are fine, how are you doing? DD and I are still rubbing along together well, she was five months old last week and now sleeping quite well. At least she is not needing fed in the night so when I am up it is not for long. It is nice. I hope the rest of you are getting some well-earned rest as well or that it is heading that way. We seem to have the naps sorted for the moment as well.

She is quite an 'intense' baby who doesn't smile much at anyone except DH and me. She gives everyone stares all the time, the HV found it quite unnerving. I think she is happy really though, it's just that there is a lot to look at and concentrate on. :)

Love to hear how the rest of you are doing!

Leilandri · 03/02/2012 17:53

Hi Ladies, nice to hear from some of you.

Leo will be 6 months old on Weds, can't believe how quickly the time is flying by. Shock
He is fully weaned now with 3 meals a day, but he is still waking once a night for a bottle. He does just drink it, burp and go back to sleep tho, so it's not too bad. We've moved him into his big brothers room now, and they are loving sharing. It is so nice listening to the monitor and hearing DS1 talking to Leo, and Leo babbling back!
Leo has his first tooth already, and his second is nearly through, he can roll over and is very nearly sitting up without assistance. He's getting to be such a big boy - time for another baby maybe!!!!! Wink

NHAN · 03/02/2012 20:44

Hello me again :) looks like this thread has gone very quiet. Nice to see updates from some of you.
Miles is still breastfed and we're going to do baby led weaning so we haven't started yet. He is generally a very happy little boy, always grinning at people and desperate to get moving. He's been grumpy today and yesterday bit i think he's teething. I hope the tooth hurries up because his screaming scared the life out of me!
He is rolling over, sitting up and crying to crawl, but only going backwards at the moment. It's gone so quickly, I can't believe he will be 6 months this month
Its hard work with 2 but my 4 yr old and Miles adore each other (at the moment) and i'm very happy. I had a bit of pnd but hopefully i'm coming out of it now. Hope everyone
