Hi,
Thought I would start us a postnatal thread. Were still in hospital, here till Tuesday monitoring dd (now named Eva) and giving her the anti biotics. Im missing dd1 loads as I only get to see her at visiting and trying to contain a toddler on the ward is tough.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Teladi · 14/11/2011 11:54

After me saying I didn't mind if DD slept through or not at this stage, I thought she had cracked it! She slept 7pm-4am Friday night, we were up for 45 minutes doing feeding and changing and then she settled back down until 6:30am... and then did similar 8pm-5am Saturday night. I was super shocked but I was right not to get my hopes up as last night was very much not like that. Can't figure out what was different, but feeling hopeful for the future!

I haven't decided what I am going to do about contraception - we used condoms pre-DD but that was knowing I wanted to have a baby someday so it wouldn't be a big tragedy if things went wrong. However now I don't think I want another baby and even if I did certainly not for a good long while. However I didn't get on well at all with Implanon when I had it some years ago, and it has put me off hormonal contraception big-style. Anyway I'm still not fixed from DD's birth so there hasn't been any need for contraception yet...

neverlookback · 16/11/2011 14:07

im totally of hormonal contraception now too, i havent used anything hormonal for 10 years because it caused migraines and before ds and dd i had the copper coil which i found great and i think i will have it again, it didnt make my period heavier or longer so i think ill have to go back to that,
the 3 week stint on this mini pill has made me have constant heart palpitations which im still having 2 weeks after stopping, just waiting for a referral to cardiologist, its really worried me, so i think im gonna stay away from anything hormonal!

it was ds 3rd birthday on sunday and he was so poorly all day with a temp/cold it was such a shame!
DP has to have a hernia repair operation tomorrow for the 3rd time, that means we go from 1 extreme to another of him not being here much to being here all the time for 6 weeks, which is nice but we alway fall out!!! wish we could get a happy medium!

been up in the attic today to get the bumbo down only to discover that its not there, i must of given it away after ds as i said i wasnt having any more babies!! gutted!

willow going to bed at 7pm now feeding at around 11-12pm then between 2-3 and then between 6-7 and then shes up! im sure this will change again in a few days, were in a loose routine and shes getting more predictible!

Hi guys, Eva is so long now she's well in to 6-9 month clothes! She's sleeping 730-530 most days now- then dd1 wakes up and it's getting up time! Eva is really interacting and giggles when tickled. I have also noticed how she gets fretful when dd1 leaves the room!

I'm really well too- hit my slimming world target last week so was chuffed with that!

Eva still won't take a bottle- despite me trying daily. I have my first keep in touch day on the 1st dec so at this point dp will have to bring her too me for a feed half way thru the day!

Dd1 is loving her sister and introduces her to strangers constantly!

WinterLover · 16/11/2011 17:46

Sargesaweyes DS is 16 weeks now and he's been on baby rice at lunch since 15 weeks. We decided on this as he'd have his 6oz bottle, still be hungry but if he took anymore milk he'd bring it straight back up. Now he takes his 6oz bottle, some baby rice then a few more oz and he is so much more settled. A few ladies at my babygroup have done the same. As with the BF/FF there are always people either stongly against or strongly for it. I do believe though as a mum you know whats best for your child.

SkinnyGirlBethany · 16/11/2011 17:48

IMHO sarges I wouldn't go against guidelines. Plus it adds to mess and makes things way more complicated. Plus if your dc gets I'll you feel shit (I tried to wean dd2 at 23 weeks and she got a tummy bug and wad in hospital for a week- could be unrelated but I felt awful)

Leilandri · 16/11/2011 21:24

Hi Sarge Leo has been having baby rice in his last bottle of the day, about 7pm, from 10 weeks. It has really helped him to settle in the night, and he now sleeps from 8pm to 5am, and wakes with lovely smiles on his face.
He is now also starting on baby cereals, he has some every 3 days so far, to check for any adverse effects, but I shall be stepping this up from now on, ready for proper weaning from 16+ weeks.

Everyone raises their child differently, but remember that Bertie is YOUR baby, and it is no-one elses business!

Firawla · 17/11/2011 00:04

sarge i wouldn't with the baby rice, he is very young and really he only needs the milk at the moment i wouldnt do it just cos family are pestering you about it. the guidelines are 17 weeks at the earliest so i would be worried about doing it before then personally, but if you feel he does need something more then dont wait til 6 months if you dont want to but atleast 17 weeks then you know it should be okay?
although it does sound tempting to hear of babies sleeping the whole night with it!!
not sure what age i will start with food but i did my ds1 at 4 months and it went really well with him and ds2 waited til 6 months but he would not eat anything until 7 months and was more trouble with him, but i think it might have been just the different personalities and ds2 was more of a gagging puking kinda baby!

mrsv congrats on the sw target!!!! i am so crap i still havent joined back, i have just been making a token effort here and there, although ate a load of quality street tonight so really not great..

Slimming world has been great, plus I'm running about 4x per week. Basically eatin lots of fruit and veg and trying to limit choc!

the baby rice will only taste of your milk anyway, I remember dd1 liked the porridge more.

I am getting more and more desperate to get Eva to take a bottle- but trying not to stress, trying...

Hersetta · 17/11/2011 18:20

At sure start centre this week they said definitely no weaning before 17 weeks. I think we started at around 19 weeks with DD. I wait until they show signs of wanting to eat proper food - watching you eat, trying to grab your food etc. Alex shows no signs of being interested just yet, so will just play it by ear.
He is still sleeping from 8pm till 7.30 am and just the happiest little boy. He positively beams when he sees me or DH which is lovely.

DH totally shocked me by announcing he's like another - I was a bit stunned and muttered something about being too old. I really would love another but just not sure practically it is the right thing to do....plus I am a bit old!!

no sarge mine not sleeping through either!

Teladi · 22/11/2011 16:43

I'm not sure what 'sleeping through' is to be honest, H was twelve weeks on Friday and has improved a lot the last couple of weeks and now I am usually only up once in the night at about 2:30-3:30am and then we're up for the day 7:30-8am. I'm not sure if that counts?? If it does then I'm sorry and not trying to be smug ;)

I think people LIE about babies sleeping through!

neverlookback · 23/11/2011 13:46

ha ha Willow is definatly not sleeping through, she goes to bed at 7pm and has a bottle at 11 - 12pm then another at 3-4 and another at 6-7, if she wakes at 6am i try to get her to go back down but it doesnt always work, when she wakes at 7 we get up! i can tell when shes up for the day as she just smiles and smiles and smiles at me!

im v tired today as ds who is 3 was up 3 times too and i had to sleep with him for a while so in the time between midnight and 6 am i was up 6 times between them!!

dp cant do a thing as he had his hernia op on Thurs so its totally like being a single mum of 3 at the moment, hence im needing a couple of glasses of wine every night once i have them all in bed!!

WinterLover · 24/11/2011 05:20

DS sleeps 6.30pm till about 5am, which is our timetable anyway as DP has to leave for work at 5 so we are in bed asleep no later than 9pm.

Well the GP has increased my AD's, im still on a low dose though

wishwales · 24/11/2011 07:28

sarge
Have you tried propping up the sleeping surface on one side? Morgan can sleep many hours with her reflux when she is at an angle.

Superbabywright · 25/11/2011 20:05

Hi all. Late joiner. My DD was born on the 9th August :)

Just scanning through this page and I love slimming world but xmas seems to be eating my SW budget as fast as I'm eating everything and anything in sight. Is this the same as others booby feeders?

DD doesn't sleep through the night and the little madam has been waking every 2 1/2 hours the last couple of nights so it just feels like newborn sleep deprivation is kicking in again :( I didn't think the next growth spurt was until 19/20 weeks.

So my 2 pence worth on those topics.

Sarge The pillow isn't enough. We have her lifted up with a pile of two Argos catalogs under the legs of her moses basket and bedside crib at the end her head goes. We are also using Carobel thickener to keep the milk down and Ranitidine to ease the burning in her esophagus. Between all of that and leaving her upright whilst feeding and at least 30 minutes after, we licked the reflux. Hope it resolves soon.

NHAN · 26/11/2011 21:57

Hi everyone, I used to be on the pregnancy thread and did post on here at the beginning but was hoping to come back again? Miles is 14 weeks now and is a happy little boy, i'm breastfeeding and co-sleeping and really enjoying having another baby now that i know what i'm doing :)
I was having issues with my eldest who is nearly 4 but he seems to be getting used to sharing me now and has decided his little brother is his best friend

wishwales · 26/11/2011 22:29

sarge When the weight increases, you have to adjust the dose of ranitidine. The bigger the baby, the higher the dose. The thickening powder we use sounds like it might be the same idea as your formula. We only have one choice of formula, the preemie one, which I understand is thicker than most but not thick enough to stay down. So we have to use Carobel powder with it. I hope the catalogs help you. Don't be afraid to use several :)

Teladi · 27/11/2011 07:35

NHAN it is nice to see you back :)

Super I am also eating like it is going out of fashion. I'm hoping when I stop feeding DD eventually I will be able to remember NOT to do that or I am going to end up the size of a house.
