well glad I'm not the only one with a no napper. She should be asleep now but is wriggling on her tummy on the bed next to me burping Confused . I think she woke up as I moved my boob away from her Shock Hmm .....right, boob back in place now and she's shut up. Defo need some advice from sleep thread I fear. I get so frustrated as at least half of her nap time is usually on me as she won't sleep any other way so I can't get anything done and if the other nap is when I'm out then I get no break at all. I think I get frustrated with housework as I used to have a dream dh who actually cleaned alot to a v good standard but the longer we have lived together the more I do. When alice was born I did alot more so he had time to bath her etc straight after work, but these things are now just assumed as my 'jobs' .

ems re: cooking parties - I looked into it alot and lots of mn threads about working etc and it made me realise how hard it is for mums to find decent pt jobs. I just feel like it would be a shame to give up a relatively well paid pt job (with long hols) without giving it a good go first. The cooking parties are still a dream that I want to do though. This is of course deprndant on sorting out issues re: childcare. Part of me feels like I quitr like the idea of working (sometimes) but other times I wonder how on earth I will fit everything in (I'm now going back over 3 days not 2 as initially thought plus all the working from home). I wonder if I've bitten off more than I can chew with working/looking after alice/home making etc. I never wanted to be a working mum - I was always honest with dh from thr get go that I wasn't planning on working when I had children so feel a little cheated but he thought I was odd as his background is different and women work regardless iykwim.

ILovePonyo · 21/08/2011 22:20

reastie dd doesn't sleep for more than half an hour in the day, I could set my watch by her, dot on 30 mins and she's awake. So now naps about 90mins to 2 hours too in the day. If you were honest with dh about not wanting to be a working mum then he should respect that - sod what other women in his family do! I know its not that simple really but hope you're feeling ok about it.

I'll be back at work in Nov too borg and part time - weird! Not really looking forward to it but prob because of all the messing about with redundancy and its a demanding job. Lets not think about it yet!

delia good luck for tomo, let us know how you get on. Love the thought of C's school bag Grin

Right I have to go and attempt to dream feed dd as she screamed during her last bottle and didn't drink anything Hmm I feel so useless when that happens, am going to ask health visitor when I get her weighed this week but they're pretty useless, as long as she;s not losing weight they say not to worry. Easy to say Hmm but its upsetting and she is hungry just won't drink anything.
Sorry for the moan, heres to sleepy nights xx

chocoroo · 21/08/2011 23:06

Evening all!

Night two of R in her own room and I'm not sure she's noticed! I miss her little sniffles though, and I never thought I'd say that!

I have full sympathies with the no nappers. R has never been a massive napper, and has definitely dropped a nap in the last few weeks - she used to have one about 5:30 to get her to bedtime but since she's been having a meal around then she has stopped. She usually goes for 30m in a morning, either on me or in the car depending on what we're doing and then 90m at about 2pm. However, if she doesn't get to have her afternoon nap on me she will only go for 20m or so and then whinge at me until I let her sleep on me.

Good luck at work Delia I'm just sorting my return out (technically I'm back in 9 weeks) and it's starting to be scary. I'm sure you'll be just fine and it wont be halfso much adjustment as leaving work to have a baby!

Spent half of day moving furniture around and getting rid of old books and DVDs and stuff. House is a tip now so I need to sort before Tuesday eve when we have friend for dinner. One of them is a vegan so I also need to think up a vegan dessert - am doing her a mushroom and ale pie for main while we have steak and ale. Any ideas?

debka · 22/08/2011 07:13

Morning everyone,

Up early because S decided to have a cot-party from 5.30-6.15 this morning, just left her rattling about in there by herself, too early to get her up. She's back asleep now but I'm not, sigh. Was a late one last night too, didn't get in till 11.

Have read all posts but too much to reply individually.

Much sympathy to those with bad nappers. I'm lucky, S has 3 a day, and at least one will be 1.5hrs. Imy didn't go down to 2 naps until she was at least 8 months, I think S is going the same way.

To those with bad eaters- it took S a good few days before she got the hang of eating, now she won't stop!

Wasn't too bad with pils this weekend. Spent most of the christening and party afterwards with 2 small tired girls hanging off me whilst everyone else ate and drank and had fun Angry. O nearly forgot- we arrived the day before the christening and pils had dnephew who's 1. I put S upstairs for a nap, she went straight off to sleep. Fil took DN up for a nap where he bellowed. S stayed asleep. Then fil took DN out of his cot and laid him on the bed, then went and looked out of the window. S did NOT sleep through the enormous crash that was DN falling off the bed and the ensuing screaming. They are a bloody liability my pils. Christening day and I had myself and both girls all slept, fed, dressed and bags packed ready to leave on time [smug]. They were rushing around screaming at each other because neither were ready- 2 grown adults.

Actually shouldn't be quite so harsh, went out for dinner sat pm and they gave us a card for each girl with a cheque for £500 in- £500 EACH. I was Shock then v grateful.

Oooo ooo ooo the cake at the christening was the top and middle tier of their wedding cake which I made 18mo ago- was tres nervous how it would taste 1.5years later but it was bloody GORGEOUS [proud] Grin reastie is any of your christening cake fruit?

Vegan dessert choc- fruit crumble made with vegan marg? Summer pudding? Rice pudding made with coconut milk? Home grown peach from reastie's garden? Wink

janedoe25 · 22/08/2011 07:46

Morning all,
debka fil sounds a bit daft! Well done with your cake Grin

I had a quiet weekend, spent it doing wedding things - much to DF's delight! Next weekend will be busy, it is mils 60th/retiring party which i am helping her with.

Has anyone used Ovulation sticks before? I bought a stack of the clearblue digi OV sticks from ebay in prep for next month! We are giving the ttc a rest for this month, DF will be away during the golden time anyway.

reastie · 22/08/2011 08:34

choc yes I'll throw a few peaches from the garden your way if you like Wink re: the pie - is the ale vegan? Just a thought as I'm not sure if they all are. Pud wise, erm, fruit crumble or maybe cobbler sounds good (with vegan marg and milk) you can buy soya custard in little cartons from the free from section in supermarkets. There are some interesting sounding vegan puds here if the link works Wink

deb Shock and Grin to the £500 each - can I have one of those too Wink btw our christening cake is chocolate - dh has already gone through over half of the massive cake in less then 3 days Shock - and he still has a slim tum Envy

jane not used ovulation sticks sorry

MizK · 22/08/2011 09:14

Morning! Good luck at work today delia hope it all goes smoothly. Weird that its back to work time already!
debka hope you get a nice relaxing day if you've had an early start. Cassia woke up between 5 and 6 today too oddly. I was so annoyed with her, she decided to then wake up for the day as soon as I'd finally dozed back off. Can't wait til she's in DD1s room (DD1 can and has slept through an earthquake, thunderstorms, smoke and butglar alarms so she is unfazed by cass's chattering.)
Had a really good weekend, Cass went to MIL for the night on sat whilst I was taken out for dinner and to the cinema, was really nice to have a date night...(ponyo have you been to Iberico in the lace market? Was my first time and it was soooo lovely.)
FIL was very sweet about Cassia so i almost forgave the following remark "Cassia needs lots of attention, doesn't she? No wonder you never get anything done around the house" I would just love to know which charm school he went to, seriously!
jane not used those sticks before, sorry!

chocoroo · 22/08/2011 09:30

Morning!

Having mental get stuff done day, had already booked R's squinty hospital appointment and a windscreen chip repair by 8:30 as well as getting us both up and fed. A good start.

Thanks for vegan pus advice - had thought crumble as we have loads of blackberries in garden but I wasn't sure if I was being uninventive! And reastie Ale is vegan (or it will be when I go to supermarket and buy it). I also have go source vegan wine so think a Waitrose trip will be required. Oh no.

Jane I haven't used the sticks but have a mate who has - she says she quickly became obsessed so maybe give it a while before you start using them?

MizK Your night off sounds lush. We have to use all our for blooming weddings!

deb money from PIL is lovely...almost makes mental behaviour ok?

Right. Cracking on. Have nice days!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 22/08/2011 12:31

Afternoon everyone,

I hope you're all doing well, haven't had a chance to read all the posts since last on, sorry, but choc I feel your pain re the vegan dilemma; my OH was vegan for about a year (we're both veggies now) and it was a nightmare trying to find interesting food to cook for him. I think the crumble sounds lovely and I used to make a good mushroom/veg in red wine sauce pie that he loved, similar to your mushroom and ale one.

I wondered if anyone else on here is veggie and are you planning to bring your dc up as one? We've decided that we'll just give B what we eat until he's old enough to demand ask for burgers meat then he can choose and I'll cook meat for him if he wants it. This is what my dm did with my db and me and he's a meat eater and I never wanted to. I told some of my aunt's pensioner friends about it and they were Shock and muttering 'in my day it wouldn't have been allowed' etc

Hope delia is getting on okay today.

Oh, borg haven't read the post but I heard something about a poo? Grin Hooray!!!

reastie I'll swap you some apples for your peaches, we're overloaded with them here. Not even sure what type they are Blush

Had a manic weekend and now trying to get the house in order whilst dm has B for a few hours, happiness is now seeing the bottom of the linen basket Wink

ILovePonyo · 22/08/2011 13:10

Hi needto I'm not veggie but think that sounds best, I used to be veggie and thats what I would have done if I still was! I'm not surprised you get funny comments from OAP's, when my Grandma found out I was eating meat again she said "oh what a relief" like I'd recovered from a serious illness Hmm

MizK Hmm and Grin to your fils comment, what did you say to that?! Your night out sounds v nice, I don't think I've been to Iberico what kind of food is it? Its not the Brazilian place is it?

jane I think ledkr used those sticks but I might be wrong. Well done on all the wedding organising!

deb well done getting through the weekend and Shock at your fil and dn falling off the bed.

choco hope your day is still v productive Grin If you watch come dine with me there was a vegan lady who made really nice looking choc mousse, could have a look for recipe maybe? That sounds really random but we often make the aubergine curry she made so thats why I thought of it Grin

There must be something in the air because dd was also awake at 5.45am singing away to herself in her cot this morning until I got her up at half6 Confused

I am currently typing (very quietly) on my new laptop Grin next to dd who is asleep on my bed, and have only just figured our Sky broadband is wireless, dp and I have always had to sit in a certain chair to use his laptop with the internet cable plugged in, turns out there was no need for said cable Blush Blush

Deliaskis · 22/08/2011 13:52

Thanks lovely ladies for the best wishes and good luck for my first day. So far so good. I was in a big long meeting from 10 until about half twelve. and honestly was surprised about how little I thought about Claudia. Then I rang nursery to see how she was getting on (fine) and got a bit emotional about her being there all day fending for herself in the big wide world lol.

She is doing fine though, they said she slept for about half an hour this morning, and had all her bottle and they said half her lunch (but I know they serve massive portions as most of the rest of the babies are older than C) which was far more adventurous than anything I have given her - sausage and bean hotpot with couscous, and was asleep again after lunch, but had just been really smiley in between and just happily playing. I think if it goes wrong it might be late afternoon if she gets overtired.

Work itself is kind of funny. Everybody is keen to tell me how difficult stressed things are, and how nobody else understands that they particularly are busier than everybody else, except everybody is telling me this, so somebody must be the winner and the actual busiest.

I miss Claudia Sad . But everything is fine, so that's good!

Take care and have a nice day ladies.

Dx

debka · 22/08/2011 13:56

delia you brave girl, enjoy your day and just think of the smile you'll get when you pick her up :)

ponyo ha ha to cable!! that's the sort of thing i'd do!

reastie I've PM'd you.

janedoe25 · 22/08/2011 14:20

delia I'm glad your day is going well and that C has settled in at nursery!

reastie · 22/08/2011 15:00

Just a quickie - have put a couple of new photos up on profile including one of Alice on her Grandads tractor I took this afternoon Wink Grin

d glad things at work OK, hope C isn't too overtired when you pick her up

deb will reply when I get a min.....

Grannyapple · 22/08/2011 15:48

Aaa cute pics reastie!

Hope today is flying by for you Delia My work have agreed to me going back part time on 31st October...which is going to fly by!!! Pleased it's all been agreed but I did feel as if i Should be going back full-time...not by them, more me worrying about how I'll be viewed differently as a part timer...but then pleased I get 2 days with Nate, as I won't get the time back..

Weaning is now fully underway...just need to up him to 3 meals/day from the 2 he currently has...was paranoid he was having too much milk & food so changed round the food & bottle order ( was giving bottle first previously)..was then worrying he would start to wake in the night...so far so good tho.

Had some news from one of my fellow mums...She's 10 wks pregnant! Her wee one is only 2.5 weeks older than Nate...think her & hubby were in shock but now it has sunk in...pleased for them tho...1st one was via IVF so they weren't sure it would happen for them.kinda jealous that she'll have next summer off! Although we were laughing about how labour might be worse as we know now what to expect contractions wise Grin

wigglesrock · 22/08/2011 15:50

delia glad you're having a good day, never worry about C she'll be fine.

ponyo we finally got wireless sorted out over the weekend funny enough Grin We had wireless allegedly but it never worked, then Mr W happened to mention it to someone in work and they got us a new router and we've been wireless for 2 whole days, before that I sat on a particular bit of the sofa, which has now got a wigglesrock arse shape imprinted on it Blush

MizK my mum has a particular way of saying "Oh she loves one-on-one time doesn't she?" about Anna, of course she bloody does, most people do Hmm

chocoroo when's Rs appt? I have to take A back to the hip clinic, I was told not to bother but then got a letter/phonecall telling me "just to double check" with consultant.

reastie lovely photos, Alice is so lovely Grin

Anyone help with nappy rash - Anna has it quite bad at the minute, have been trying metanium but don't think its helping! Not bothering her at all btw Hmm

OP posts:
reastie · 22/08/2011 16:15

we use sudocream wiggles tis good stuff for nappy rash as well as your million and one other uses Wink . I also give alice as much no nappy time as poss when she's a bit sore bot and that seems to help

ponyo that's so funnd you mention the come dine with me tofu choc mousse - I thought the same as you so some time ago I hunted the recipe on c4 website and actually made it. I can confirm it was NOT as nice as it looked Confused

needto as you know dh and I are both veggie. We are going to give alice meat. We discussed it and decided we'd provide her a low meat/fish diet. I think there's nothing wrong in your decision at all though.

wigglesrock · 22/08/2011 17:07

reastie Grin I have tried sudocreme, its my best cure all ever, btw its brilliant on her drool rash - I make Anna sound so attractive don't I? Think I might give GP a call in the morning, just in case its external thrush or a touch of eczema. She also has a birthmark, more like a blood blister on her bottom, she's always had it, but it has started to bleed, but I think that may be the metanium Hmm.

Mr W back on nights all week, so off to try and bath all the girls, got to the point now where I just turf them all in together and hope for the best Grin

Oh, have been inspired by you all and e-mailed work confirming my return date - 7 November, taking 2 weeks leave to get to there and think my Maternity Allowance may leave me a week short but the girls will be off nursery and school for a week at Halloween and Os birthday is at the end of October so will probably be easier to leave it until Nov!

OP posts:
ILovePonyo · 22/08/2011 19:29

delia pleased for you that first day back went well by the sounds of things, hope the afternoon went just as well as the morning! Hmm at everyone being so busy, I can imagine them saying that at my work too. Bet C was sooo happy to see you when you picked her up!

Hi granny, I'm going back part time too so will have 2 week days with A, it feels weird that I'll be a part timer but looking forward to the days with A too! Shock at your friend, yikes that a bit too soon for me!

wiggles I can only second the nappy off time tip for nappy rash, poor A with her rash and bleeding birthmark, at least its not bothering her (I hope) There will soon be a ponyo shaped imprint on our sofa, I am loving this wireless malarky Grin

reastie how funny about that mousse, shame it didn't taste nice, it did look nice tho.

Right dd in bed and settled well, plus drank her bottle thank god, it must be all the ranting I did yesterday about her not having her milk thats done it Grin I'm off to nosy at reastie's photos...

ILovePonyo · 22/08/2011 19:35

Ahh reastie she is so so cute, the pic on the tractor is priceless Grin

americanexpat · 22/08/2011 19:43

needto - DH and I are both veggie and intend to bring up L as a veggie. When he's old enough to make a decision on his own, then he's welcome to eat meat (but I won't be cooking it for him).

My maternity leave ends 8th Nov but I have annual leave to cover the rest of the year so won't be back at work until January.

L and I went to a local mums group today (organised through Netmums, oh the shame Grin). I need mum-friends but I'm so shy and find it difficult to meet people.

reastie - I've got a card for the local breastfeeding clinic and the baby on it looks just like Alice! I would accuse her of modelling but I had it before she was born. Grin

ILovePonyo · 22/08/2011 20:00

Ok I have copied reastie and put up a couple more pics of dd - one of them is in honour of irishqueen, see if you can guess which one Wink

american how was the mums group? I feel I should be doing more to meet mum friends too but having dp off work all summer is an excuse not to if that makes sense, I have him around all the time Grin I think I have 3 actual mum friends (and I am counting MizK as one of them Grin Blush) none of my closest friends have kids which is a bit weird tbh.

chocoroo · 22/08/2011 20:09

Delia Sounds like you had a lovely day. Well done you, and I hope C had a fab day too. Am v jealous of all you part-timers, I'm back on 7th Nov too wiggles but full time, although am using hol to be part time up to Christmas.

reastie I can't see your pictures. I'll try and put some more of R up at some point too.maybe even her crazy half crawl!

Thank you for all the vegan dessert ideas. I've gone with crumble - apple and blackberry, with berries from the garden. I got some vegan ice cream and custard too. Have made a start on the pies this evening. As well as the starter which will be squash and pepper stacks. Phew. I bet R yells all the way through it now I've gone to all the trouble!

wiggles R's eye appointment is the 5th Sept - I'm amazed by how quickly we've got in actually.

Managed to do some good tidying and admin stuff today. Have put off arranging R's nursery visits though...I'm too nervous!

wigglesrock · 22/08/2011 20:36

americanexpat I am toying with the idea of going to a NetMums meetup, they do loads in my area and a bit further out, but I don't really like people Grin I didn't do anything like that with S because I was working and with O, I didn't drive and we were a bit all over the place with moving a couple of times. I have the time and flexibility now so really thinking about it.

chocoroo Are you worried about Rs eye?, well I mean you're her Mum of course you're worried but you're not unduly concerned are you?

ponyo A is one of the most beautiful babies I've ever seen. She actually looks really like Sofia when she was the same age Shock but Sofias hair was madder! Which was weird because O didn't have hair for a long time but after her bath a few nights ago we noticed Annas hair is beginning to grow like a mohican right up the middle of her head. Sofia had to go to the hairdressers at 9 months for a trim. Mr W attempted to cut her fringe one day when I was at work, lets just say it didn't end well Grin

I have put up a photo of the 3 girls from yesterday, lying on their tummies, it is so scary to think how big they all have got from the last tummy photo and its only been a few months Shock

OP posts:
chocoroo · 22/08/2011 21:15

wiggles I'm not overly worried right now but she's definitely a bit wonky in one eye. She had an infection for a few weeks after she was born and I think that eye has got a bit lazy because of it. I'm fairly sure she can see just fine though - today she has shown up my slummy mummy tendencies by picking crumbs off the floor and eating them! If she had to have an eye patch or anything I'd be heartbroken, I have a bit of a hang up about being liked and I want her to be liked too and not the weird eye patch girl!

American Hhhmmm. Netmums meet up? I might have to have a look...so many things are shut down over the hols here.
