Oh your poor DD. I did a search on toddler constipation and the link here seems to have some good tips: http://www.babycentre.co.uk/baby/health/constipationexpert/

BigBadBear · 12/09/2011 09:21

BG you have my sympathy on the constipation. DD2 is much better now, but has suffered terribly in the past. I find combating it quite difficult (glycerin suppositories work, but neither of us like them), and preventing it much easier. But plenty of fruit and lots of water make a massive difference to my DD2 (though as you say, once it has taken hold she is often reluctant to eat). Could you try getting her to drink a fruit smoothie? Often the novelty of drinking one from a carton through a straw will overcome the reluctance, and the pure fruit works wonders.

rainbow and "BG" lovely photos on FB!

Thanks BBB and rainbow. She is still struggling but seems more cheerful.
And she seems to have realised that being at home just with me has its good points Smile. Lunchtime was still a sticking point and she demanded to have her sister back. I told her dd1 is at school and also having potatoes for lunch (wild guess) which seemed to reassure her somewhat... Hmm

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 12/09/2011 12:25

I agree BBB lovely pictures on FB!

BG DD2 is rather happy to have me back alone. Your poor DD2, I was going to suggest the liquid diet too, smoothies and soups. Carrot juice is also quite good. Oh! and ice cream! I am sure she will like that one if you allow it Wink.

BS Grin

BC good luck with the scan. I was massive early with DD2 (I guess no muscle left to stretch!)

DD2 asked for her potty and did pee in it yesterday! We have early wake up again 5h30. She does have a 17th teeth though so may be it was disturbing her and the other molars are growing too (no red gums Confused). Lots of tantrums.

BabyGiraffes · 12/09/2011 12:53

mous dd2 is also working on more molars - it seems so early. I am sure dd1 had her second molars at about 2 1/2!

SconesForTea · 12/09/2011 14:08

Hi everyone

Sad for your poor DD2 BG. No hints and tips from this quarter I'm afraid. DD has the opposite problem, most of her poos are very loose (which makes scraping off her nappies a truly unpleasant job Confused).

I have vague thoughts that DD should spend some time in nursery - a couple of mornings a week - from when she's 2, but so far have done nothing about it so it may not actually happen.

Mous hurrah for the potty pee! DD will once again sit on hers, after refusing for a while, but hasn't produced the goods yet.

Bc I am huge this time around. Comically so at the moment. I should post a picture of my bump, I can't believe I have 6 weeks to go Shock I am so uncomfortable. The private scan sounds a good idea. How are you feeling now?

If there is a London meet-up I might be able to make it if it was w/c 26 September as I'm planning to stay with my mum (who lives in Surrey) that week.

DD seems to have decided that sleeping through is for other children, not her I'm pretty sure her teeth are still bothering her, but it is getting very wearing to be up a couple of times each night again.

She hasn't eaten her dinner for four days running. Yesterday DH decided to be firm and told her if she wouldn't eat anything, she couldn't have yoghurt or banana either. So she had no dinner at all Shock Sad She is very stubborn but I tell myself, surely if she was hungry, she'd eat.......? She has eaten ok today so far, not marvellous, but not bad.

BabyGiraffes · 12/09/2011 14:14

dd2 has been busy squirreling away anything she fancies from dd1's room to her own Grin Wonder how long until dd1 notices that her room is getting emptier!

BabyGiraffes · 12/09/2011 14:21

We have poo!! Grin She did a few pebbly ones this morning which caused her great pain but has just produced a big squishy very revolting nappy. Never thought I'd be delighted by poo Grin.

StoneBaby · 12/09/2011 19:03

mous well done for the pee in the potty!

I first bought a cheap potty but had to buy a bigger one as DS's bits where so squashed that it was pointing up! Shock but now he's happy to sit on it.

scones DS does have days where he won't eat dinner, but as you say if they're hungry, they'll eat (mine will anyway!)

BG good news on the poo

BBB are you getting used at not going to work anymore?

Love the pictures on FB

BabyGiraffes · 12/09/2011 21:11

I've spent some time today writing a detailed 'How to...' for dh who will be in charge of both girls for four nights and days (including two school days for dd1) all on his own later this week Shock. It's the first time I am ever away from dd2 overnight and only the third time for dd1 (first time was a conference when she was 2 - she still talks about it now - and the second time was the night I had dd2 and I was back home before lunch Smile - and I made lunch, too Angry!). I am sure they will be fine without me but dh did admit he would appreciate a few pointers Grin...

InmaculadaConcepcion · 13/09/2011 11:08

Arf at your "to do" list, BG! Can't believe you made lunch the day after you had DD2..... Shock
And hooray for the poo! I was going to suggest trying your DD2 on partially rehydrated prunes (pretty cheap in most supermarkets) - to see if they're preferred over the tinned variety. DD loves them, which probably accounts for the fact her poo tends to be very similar to Scones' DD...!!

Wow, a wee in the potty Mous

DD once asked to sit on the toilet, but didn't produce anything when I obliged - I think she just wanted to copy me, really. It's a start, though!

Poor old DD is full of snot today - it came on yesterday very quickly. She'd had a good night, but I noticed she was a little bit snuffly when I was getting her dressed. By lunchtime it was in full flow and totally derailed her nap - I think she maybe got 20 mins max.
She couldn't settle last night for ages - I think it was after 23.30 when she finally went properly to sleep. She was so exhausted, too - kept lying down in her cot and closing her eyes, then coughing and crying moments later. She loathes having a runny nose too.
I hung muslins with drops of Karvol around her cot, gave her a shot of paracetamol at 19.00, (which she loved, just wanted to keep sucking on the end of the syringe until I took it away) then a shot of ibuprofen at 23.00ish. Finally, she settled and slept until 06.00 - DH went in and gave her some water, whereupon she went back to sleep for another hour and a half or so.
When I took her temperature this morning it was 38 and she was feeling pretty sorry for herself.
Mind you, she ate a hearty breakfast and now seems quite a bit brighter (although still streaming from eyes and nose). She's currently happily sorting out bits of dry pasta on the kitchen floor.... Smile

Blimey, that was a detailed description - anyone would think DD's hardly ever had a cold before (and they'd be right - this is only the second "proper" one she's had)!

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 13/09/2011 11:49

IC don't be too impressed, like your DD she has been asking to go to the toilet for about a month and during that time nothing was produced. She also try to rip off her nappy when she needs to go and at the 1st tiny pee so it drive me nuts. I am not ready to go totally free as I still carry her in the metro and can stop to let her... Confused on what to do next. We are also in the middle of a heat wave (36 today) so is almost always naked which helps.

Your poor DD. Hope she gets better soon. I have found with DD1 that every time we moved she kept having diseases for months to catch up on the local viruses... Good luck. (to PA too)

I left a to do list to DH when I went to hospital to have DD2 Wink of course he ignored everything on it, but it had the emergency numbers (docs, school...) so it made me feel better.
Can't believe you did the lunch though Shock!

scones I have found that diner are hit and miss. Especially that she is eating "normal" food she do a thorough triage which usually involve removing proteins and vegetables. I give her mush form time to time to try to remedy that. (well she eats herself she hasn't let me near her with a spoon for months)

BabyGiraffes · 13/09/2011 12:35

IC Aww, poor little thing. My two have started sneezing a lot so I am expecting the first of many colds this autumn as the term gets into full swing.

mous heatwave!! We are so much into autumn here that I considered lighting a fire last night... Yesterday's walk to school was fun, too, because it was seriously stormy and we had conkers falling on our heads outside dd1's school. She filled her pockets with them - very shiny large ones and very pretty because they were so freshly fallen - and the teacher suggested doing some maths using conkers... Smile
Oh yes, having dd2 was 'fun'. The nurses where a bit Shock to hear dh just dropped me off outside the hospital, I walked myself up to the assessment unit through the hospital (slowly!) pulling a small suitcase, then had dd2 two hours later, and got dh to collect me again in the morning Grin. Easy. (To be fair to dh he had to look after dd1 and it was agreed he wouldn't be anywhere near me because he is the most squeamish person on earth).

dd2 likes wearing her potty as a hat...

BabyGiraffes · 13/09/2011 14:17

dd2 is a sleepy head today. I had to wake her at 7.30 this morning to get ready for the school run, and she's now been asleep for over two hours... And instead of being pleased I wonder what's wrong with her Confused. Probably coming down with something. I've got a wooly jumper on now and managed to sneeze seven times in a row. Woke me up at least Grin

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 13/09/2011 16:01

That why I was posting in the 1st place! Blush sieve head!
Are you all OK after the storms?

BabyGiraffes · 13/09/2011 16:42

mous still really windy here today. Had to retrieve dd2 from the playground earlier and put her back in the pushchair, much to her disgust. But she was nearly swept off her feet a few times and I didn't want her to crack her head...

InmaculadaConcepcion · 13/09/2011 17:05

It's been a bit blustery here, but we haven't been directly affected ourselves. DD was unimpressed, she doesn't like wind very much at all.

Aw, BG, FX your DD2 isn't getting anything - and indeed you too, given your trip abroad soon.

I'm still impressed, though Mous (with the pee in the potty) - I'm not even considering potty training proper until DD is well inside her third year - unless she shows signs of being ready earlier, in which case, tally ho!

Yes, the bugs could well be the local viruses getting DD - she only had a couple of minor sniffles in Spain plus a 24-hour squitty tummy. We were very lucky, really.

DD went downhill again and didn't want any lunch, so I put her down for her nap. She went off very quickly, but only slept for a little over half an hour. I sat with her stroking her head (which she liked very much) trying to get her to sleep some more, but nope.
She did at least eat a banana, most of a plum and some yoghurt when she got up and has been brighter again this afternoon. We'll see what tonight brings!

PenguinArmy · 14/09/2011 13:53
BabyGiraffes · 14/09/2011 13:59

PA Yay, you are back!! Smile Hope you are settling into your new flat and all is well.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 14/09/2011 14:03

I hope it's all okay with the new place, PA!

Well, DD had a much better night, settled straight away and slept until 05.40, resettled then awake again at 06.05 then resettled and slept until 07.00. And she's been much brighter this morning (typical, eh BG?!). And now her nap has just broken the hour mark, which is a big improvement on the last couple of days. Hopefully it was short sharp head cold which will now recede as quickly as it came...

PenguinArmy · 14/09/2011 14:13

have skimmed through so apologies if I miss or forget anyone

IC hope she gets better, DD has only been proper ill once, so I'll be the same.

BG Hope things continue in the right direction there. I don't think DD has ever refused fruit, although getting fresher good ones has up to now always been easy enough. We tend to go with a combo or diluted fresh orange juice (not that we have a orange tree anymore) and fruit.

DD has seemingly taken to sleeping longer at night with a mixture of sleep through's and multiple wakings. Although the other day she woke up at 9am Shock (of course the next night was awful).

Once she hit 18 months her language seemed to explode. This week new words have been: yummy, goose, cow, baby, nanny (probably more but I've gone blank). O's have started to come though so socks and hot are being pronounced much better. It's still really nice that yes (well nodding is here) to counter the saying no all the time phase we had a little while back.

Now that she's sleeping 11+ hours we're having more one nap days, which part of me wants to really encourage but other half enjoyed having a nap myself around 9-10am. I do plan to have her on one nap before Nigel arrives.

Speaking of which growth scan came and went, on the small side but all within normal. Still no consultant appt. yet. Am now 35+4. I did become very aware at the scan that I was the only person there on my own.

Dinners are starting become near 50:50 hit and miss. DD is due two jabs next week, men C and hib booster I think. Getting used to being a SAHM, internet will makes things easier. There's a weekly MN meetup I'm hoping to get to as as nice as the childrens center was, the people weren't really my cup of tea.

Was going to check out a family center today but of course I got a text telling me buggy is due today. Have nappies, car seat and moses basket so figure Nigel can arrive now if he wants.

Well I think that's enough from me. Just to leave with the fact that DD has developed a really cheeky deep laugh and luckily (for her) she is as adorable as she is hard work.

PenguinArmy · 14/09/2011 14:34

we also have teddy, oh dear (thanks to MIL) and a good attempt at triangle (she does triang). Funny attempts at balloon and strawberries and the b parts end up as blll with her sticking her tongue out.

Plus 3 new teeth taking us to 11. Think they are the first molars, they are massive and was the first time there looked to be residue blood

StoneBaby · 14/09/2011 16:21

DS new words are Oh non and Ballon

He's having a sore bum today Sad which mean back on disposable

StoneBaby · 14/09/2011 16:21

PA welcome back

Bearcrumble · 14/09/2011 16:26

Hello - had a scan today, 9w 2d - just because I needed to have a look before 12 weeks and check that all was looking well. Luckily it is, measuring the same as my dates and a good heartbeat.

DS's new words are guitar, bowl, oops, bear, Lola, bus, train, dong (he goes crazy shouting DONG DONG DONG DONG when Big Ben comes on the radio for the news).
