awww about the dong, plus that's great about the scanBC a few more weeks to go until the 2T

(forgot car and keys as well)

InmaculadaConcepcion · 14/09/2011 19:08

Ace news on the scan, Bc - likewise PA Smile

We have "bloobies" for blueberries "cops" for cubes but my current favourite is "offalot" for elephant.....

....and everything is still "the....."

BabyGiraffes · 14/09/2011 20:06

I took dd2 to a funeral last week and she was good as gold but quietly pointed a few things out to me. The marble column in front of us was a 'Baum' (tree), she liked the 'bim bam' (little bells, catholic mass', asked for 'Kekse' (biscuits' for herself (communion wavers!), and when the priest blessed the coffin with holy water she commented 'nass!' (wet) which nearly made me burst out laughing Wink

StoneBaby · 14/09/2011 20:36

bc great news on the scan! Smile

DS is speaking more and more but most of it is still giberish, which annoys me as I want to understnad what he says!

BG Grin

InmaculadaConcepcion · 14/09/2011 20:48

Ha, ha, ha BG!

SB he'll probably amaze you by suddenly coming out with complete sentences without any warning...

Bedtime was interesting tonight. DD got horribly frustrated and I got horribly nipped because she couldn't do her sleepy nuzzly breastfeed owing to an inability to breathe through her blocked up nose. After three attempts and some crying (from DD), we both gave up and she allowed me to put her in her cot. She was coughing so I went in a short time later and gave her a shot of ibuprofen (she doesn't seem to have a fever, but I figured the anti-inflammatory properties might help a bit - or at least the placebo effect) then just cuddled her for a while without her demanding to go on the breast. After a bit, she let me put her back in her cot again.
SO....I'm wondering whether it might be the opportunity to finally complete the weaning process....if she's still blocked up tomorrow, I think I might actually go for it......

BigBadBear · 15/09/2011 10:18

BC great news on the scan.

PA welcome back.

IC good luck with weaning.

A busy week here. DD1 has gone to school (she is loving it and I am so proud of her) and DD2 is now officially a toddler as walking is definitely now her preferred way of getting about. Yay!

BabyGiraffes · 15/09/2011 13:24

This is what dd2 gets up to while her sister is at school... Being VERY cheeky, trying on new 'hats', getting ready to ride her sister's bike, helping mama with the cooking, reading her sister's books, feeding her doll, and playing four in a row... Smile

BabyGiraffes · 15/09/2011 14:10

BBB Great news on your dd2 walking Smile. Glad you managed to find supportive shoes to support her ankles a bit.
IC How did last night go? Did your LO wean herself?
SB dd1 spent a while talking her own language but is now perfectly clear Smile so I wouldn't worry too much
PA good news on the growth scan. I had to have them with both mine...

Notice another quirky little thing about dd2 this morning. She refuses to eat toast with anything sweet on (marmalade, jam, honey) and seems to think that is a waste of perfectly good bread Grin. She's more a savoury girl and would happily have bread with strong cheddar on it, even for breakfast.

SconesForTea · 15/09/2011 16:11

BG adorable pics of DD2. I hardly ever seem to take photos of DD these days Sad Must Try Harder. My Grandma asked me for a recent photo of her and I don't really have one Blush

BBB yay for the walking!! Grin Now you can spend all day running after her Wink

IC good luck with the weaning, let us know how it goes. Get well vibes to your DD.

SB hope DS' bottom is better.... poor thing.

Bc fantastic news on the scan. Not long and you can let out that massive breath you've been holding for the past few weeks... Exciting times! How are you feeling now?

PA welcome back! Thank goodness for internet connection eh? Great news on the scan. How is the new place?

Mous we had very high winds here Monday, they blew away our black bin and we can't find it anywhere; the council will have to send us a new one. DD is well used to the wind though as it's often windy here and she says "winny winny".

Well I am posting at a very odd time (for me) as DD is having her third nap of the day... Far too late, of course, but she's been a bit sniffly and we've had some terrible nights (reduced me to tears in fact) and so I thought, what the hell, let her have a little sleep now and she can go to bed an hour later - DH will be home by then and can take over Grin I must say I feel a bit naughty for being on MN midafternoon. I should be Doing Something Useful instead.

PenguinArmy · 15/09/2011 16:21

I might have broken my shiny expensive camera :( so no pictures here for a while. Leaving it a few more days to dry out proper.

New place is good, trying to work out where the extra room will come from once Nigel arrives, but I guess it doesn't matter how much space you have to start with, an extra child always impacts it.

I have to say DD saying Oh Dear is driving me crazy, how to explain it doesn't count when you say it after dropping something on purpose. Also yes there is banana on my T-shirt, I don't know why you find it so fascinating, you put it there in the first place.

Guess I should start dinner, lentils don't precook themselves. You can't do anything useful, if you're as exhausted as me, then you need to rest in all naps. We spent 3 hours at the children's centre today and I've signed up to a 6 week toddler talk class thing. We don't have a TV so it's always MN time Grin Have you got or decided about a buggy yet?

InmaculadaConcepcion · 15/09/2011 16:32

Aw, Scones, sorry to hear about the bad nights....fellow feeling from this quarter too.

Great stuff on the walking, BBB!

Love the pix, BG, your DD2 has got the cheekiest face...!

I think we can safely say that DD isn't at all keen on the idea of losing that last BF. She woke last night at about 23.30 yelling (her cold, I suspect) and when DH (who is always thoroughly disorientated when DD wakes up before midnight) sounded like he was struggling with DD refusing to stop screaming, I went in. Cue constant yells of "Cuddle....cuddle....milk...milk..." and outright tantrumming for what seemed like ages until she finally calmed down enough to let me put her back in her cot. I then had to stay for a long while, stroking her head and waiting for her to be sleepy enough for me to leave again (sleep training has eased because of illness - but we're not letting DD back into bed with us, illness or no). She eventually got back to sleep about 01.00 - until 06.30, when we had another tantrum and more demands for milk (which we haven't had in weeks after the morning wake-up).

But I'm going to go through with the weaning anyhow for two reasons:

  1. I don't want to have to go through the screaming tantrums a second time because
  2. I won't let her BF again while she's blocked up - which she still is - because she nips my nips bloody painfully, so the only other choice is to stop NOW.

I'm going out singing tonight, so I'm afraid DH will be left with the aftermath of DD being put in her cot without the BF.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 15/09/2011 16:33

X-posted PA

Glad to hear your settling in okay.
Arf at "oh dear..." to everything!

No telly here either, so ditto on MN time!!!

BabyGiraffes · 15/09/2011 18:04

Erm, dd2 has started saying 'warte' (wait) and 'lass das' (leave it) and I realised it reflects what I seem to say to dd1 quite a lot. Since she started school she thinks she knows better and does not have to listen to me... Confused Embarrassing how children mirror your worst behaviour...

BabyGiraffes · 15/09/2011 18:06

In case anyone is looking for waterproof trousers/coats for adults or children, just saw they have some at Lidl from Monday... Also wellies.

BabyGiraffes · 15/09/2011 18:32

Oh, another odd thing. dd2 started eating with her left hand today after being quite right handed up to now. I will keep an eye on this because I wondered if she had hurt her right arm without me noticing. Or she is experimenting (I was ambi-whatsit until I was 7). Or she is left handed after all. Or she tried to copy dd1 who was sitting opposite her and eating with her right hand. Hmm. Or rather Hmm.

StoneBaby · 15/09/2011 19:46

Arhhh, my internet connection keeps dropping so I've just lost a long post Angry

So let's try again.

BG DS is ambidextrus at the present but for some things he seems to prefer his left hand (both DH and I are lefties)

BBB great news on the walking.

PA no 'oh dear' here but lots of 'oh non'

scones FX you'll have a better night.

PA good luck on the weaning. Maybe it'll be easier for your Dh to be by himself as your DD will know that you're not around and may just deal with the no feed to bed.

rainbowweaver · 16/09/2011 19:25

IC when I travel DH gives DD milk whenever she would normally BF (esp at night which sends her right off to sleep) so might be an idea to have your DH offer your DD cow's milk just before she sleeps and see if it helps. She could be hungry otherwise and wake up in the middle of the night.

PA ha DD does "oo-er" when she drops something on purpose, imitating us no doubt.

scones you could fold clothing while sitting on the sofa! And watch tv at the same time.....

InmaculadaConcepcion · 16/09/2011 20:05

Thanks for the thoughts, All!
Last night went okay - DD was quite relaxed about me going and went down reasonably well for DH, then slept through (well, put herself back to sleep after waking up coughing a few times) until 06.30. So a good start. Tonight she made more of a fuss about me going out (I walked around the block), but DH says she got over it very quickly and she's gone down fine for him tonight after a few stories. I reckon she's gone out like a light (all silent over the monitor) because persistent coughing stopped her having much in the way of a lunchtime nap, so she's knackered. I'm hoping her cough won't bother her too much tonight...

rainbow, DD generally makes a face when she tries drinking cow's milk - although she's happy to have it on her cereal. Also, she was only taking a tiny bit of milk from me, so I don't think overnight hunger's likely to be a problem - assuming she's eaten okay during the day.

Omelette and saute potatoes didn't go down too badly this evening, although she picked out the sweetcorn and peas that went with it.

"Wiss-wees" are swings, interestingly....!

PenguinArmy · 16/09/2011 20:39

DD did wake even earlier when we first weaned, but after a few weeks she then went to not wanting to eat as soon as she woke.

She's been doing 11.5hr sleeps the last few nights Shock and sleeping through. In fact she's been waking due to DHs alarm clock. After all that effort moving bedtime later, we might have to reverse it if this keeps up.

How does last week of sept or first week of oct sound?

InmaculadaConcepcion · 16/09/2011 20:56

They sound good to me!

Argh - this cough is a nightmare. DD's been coughing intermittently ever since DH put her down and now it's properly woken her up. Anyone got any thoughts? She's got vapour rub on her chest and we've just given her some warm camomile tea with a little honey in it. She tends to sleep on her front anyway and raising the cot doesn't work because she has a tendency to sleep in all directions in it.
Anyone got any tips on soothing a cough...??

PenguinArmy · 16/09/2011 23:19

sorry no IC no help here :( hopefully one of the others will be along for you. Will she co-sleep lying sideways on your stomach?

BabyGiraffes · 17/09/2011 08:45

IC Likewise no suggestions Sad Hope she is a bit better today. I found with mine that naps go out the window but they sleep through their cough in the night. Wish I could do that. I usually cough right through the night and dh ends up on the sofa...

Well, I'm at the airport hotel and had the strange experience of having a huge bed to myself, no one woke me (wake up call never came...), I had a shower without someone throwing bath toys at me, and just had an enormous cooked breakfast without someone stealing my toast... Grin But I miss dh and the girls dreadfully... Sad [Telling myself to pull myself together, i am only away until Tuesday, and get myself on that flight instead of being on MN... Wink

PenguinArmy · 17/09/2011 09:27

BG It will be fine, just appreciate the alone time and savour the family more when you get back.

Once I have a consultant appt, I try and fix a date. Will switch to fb to discuss at the time as that's more private. Someone rang yesterday to give me a appt at T-10days to discuss my asthma Confused. Didn't know that got put in the referral, but I guess it's because it's not quite under control atm and I had the attack in labour last time. I told them I didn't want it and to sort out the other one.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 17/09/2011 12:34

Aw, BG - you wouldn't be human if you didn't miss them..! Enjoy your break Smile

Okey doke, PA.

Well, I looked up "toddler" and "cough" on trusty old MN and found the suggestion of a humidifier. Not having one to hand, we boiled the kettle and placed a pan of steaming water near DD's cot with drops of Karvol in. It worked like magic, within 5 mins she had stopped coughing and slept the rest of the night through without making a sound.
We've now bought a little Karvol plug-in vapouriser, hopefully that will help repeat the trick.
