DS is happy to be dressed in the morning but refuses to lye on his changing mat to get his nappy change but he's happy to go on the floor and changed when asked in the living room Hmm

PA how is the move?

PenguinArmy · 27/08/2011 20:43

BG DD says good night to every single bath toy (and thanks to my mum we have a quite a few)

I've collected most of my things out of various nooks and crannies into my mothers living room. Washing the nappies and drying the last load atm. Then in the morning we'll pack the van and drive up and cry at the thought of no internet for a week

DD tries to run away and make a game of it, but once her head is in, she then puts her arms or legs in as requested. Once I start counting she knows (atm) to stay still while I do up the buttons/poppers. For nappies, if she is on a changing mat she will generally lie there, if on a bed or sofa (i.e. no edges) then it is very hard.

DD actually ate all three parts of dinner (although she does like oily potatoes and peas anyway). I do find it like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders when she eats a good dinner, despite telling myself to relax and not worry when she doesn't.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 27/08/2011 21:04

Good luck with the move, PA! We'll miss you.... x
I hope your DD is okay and has managed to fight off whatever it might be...

Ha, yes BG - sometimes DD will lie down like a little angel, but more often than not I have to take advantage of her being distracted and change/dress her while standing up. I like the cot tip!

DH started explaining to me how DD joins in with his Spanish version of "This little piggy..." when DD interrupted, saying "Wee, wee, wee, all the way home!" and smiled triumphantly. It was a lovely moment! She's also renamed Dear Zoo "Puppy, IKeptHer" for the last line (I alternate the gender of the animals). Sometimes when I say the word "perfect", DD says "puppy, puppy!!" remembering that the puppy is perfect in Dear Zoo. Ah, I love all this new speech she's coming out with! Smile

We're off to visit f&f in Cornwall tomorrow so my posting is likely to be a bit intermittent for the next week. Love to all, I hope you're enjoying the BH weekend! x

BabyGiraffes · 27/08/2011 21:15

Loving all our bi-lingual (and more, how are you mous?) babies.. Smile I told dd2 earlier that the fruit she was eating with great enthusiasm is called 'Pfirsich', when dd1 piped up 'Papa says 'peach''. dd2 rather triumphantly said 'peach' and gave me a cheeky grin. I find it quite amusing that she prefers one language to the other for certain words even if she knows both words.

BabyGiraffes · 27/08/2011 21:18

Other examples where she prefers the English word are 'spider', 'scooter', bye bye' and 'nice'

PenguinArmy · 27/08/2011 22:37

Thanks IC should only be a week (bar unknowingly kind neighbours) and DD already seems more settled than last night. I am very grateful that she hasn't seemed unwell or in pain with it, if that makes sense. Just quiet and a bit spaced out.

SconesForTea · 28/08/2011 09:58

PA good luck with the move, and hope that DD isn't unwell after all. Could it be teething? (My mantra for everything) It must be really tough trying to organise a move at 33w pg

IC have a lovely time in Cornwall. I love it there, just wish it didn't take so long to drive there (from here, not for you!). Hope the weather is kind to you.

My baby's not bilingual but she does seem to be saying new words every day. It is such an exciting and lovely time Grin

She has hated having her nappy changed for weeks now and often makes such a fuss I have to hold her down. Sometimes she can be distracted with toys, sometimes not.

She has one canine poking through and the gum is swollen on the other side, which explains the return to Bad Nights we've been having. At times she has been inconsolable in the middle of the night which is a real first for her. And very tiring

Have a great rest of bank holiday everyone Smile

BabyGiraffes · 28/08/2011 13:08

Feeling a bit Angry with some people on freecycle who seem to think if it's free they have an automatic right to have it, and then not bother to show up and collect... Spoils the experience for the rest who genuinely want to give things away to a good home. Well, I've had enough and will ebay things instead...

StoneBaby · 28/08/2011 13:23

BG I know what you men. If you can wait next month to ebay stuff as they do a free listing about one a month. It save a few quids Smile

BabyGiraffes · 28/08/2011 14:06

SB thanks. Feeling better after I let off steam Smile.

dd2 likes to allocate items to people and usually correctly matches shoes and clothes to us. What I find interesting is that her allocation of other items - usually while looking through her picture dictionary - seems to reflect my SAHM status quite nicely.... Keys and money are always Papa's, of course Wink, as is the drill, the hammer and the hoover (Ha! Success!). She even makes a distinction between Papa's guitar and Mama's 'Geige' (violin). Definitely mine are pots and pans and peas (?). Grin

I'm having quite a problem at the moment with dd1 doing something quite silly on purpose in the knowledge that dd2 will immediately copy her... Hmm. Earlier this was standing and dancing on a swivel chair. Cue tears from dd2 when she did the same and promptly fell off... Sad Angry

BabyGiraffes · 28/08/2011 14:34

Just caught dd2 heading off to her room with a bottle of self tan lotion... Could have had quite hilarious results if I had not noticed! Grin

StoneBaby · 28/08/2011 19:27

We had a lovely afternoon at friends where DS enjoyed roast potatoes and peas as his '2nd' lunch. The funniest thing is that while he enjoyed paying with our friends and chasing their cat, at 6.30pm, he run to me and looked tired as it was past his bedtime. I did not give him any cues but he knew it wss time to go! Grin

BabyGiraffes · 29/08/2011 08:59

We are having duck with asparagus for lunch... at least that is what dd2 is cooking right now. The duck might be a bit rubbery though (well, it is a bath duck....) Grin. Sorry, bad joke... Grin

Bearcrumble · 29/08/2011 19:03

Good luck with the move, PA.

BG Grin

SB You are lucky that he needs to go to bed so early. After trying everything to stop my DS rising so early the only thing that has worked is delaying his bedtime to 7.45 or even 8. I have to say I'd prefer a 7-7 sleeper but at least this way I don't have the horrible early mornings.

Sorry - here comes a bit of a moan. This pregnancy is nothing like the early days of my previous one. I had no symptoms before and kept wondering if I was really pregnant. With this one I have terrible fatigue and upset tummy feeling. Also no appetite to speak of, especially in the morning.

I am really happy about it still, of course - I never really thought it would happen so it is taking a while to sink in. Also I am a worrier and it does concern me that I may have the same problems with this pregnancy as I did with DS (the high blood pressure, inefficent placenta/growth restriction). Am hoping that all these pregnancy symptons mean it going to be a healthy one.

I have joined the April antenatal thread (edd April 16th).

DH is going to Croatia for a week on Wednesday for work. Not looking forward to being on my own with DS.

StoneBaby · 29/08/2011 19:48

BG how was lunch? Grin

bc sorry to hear you're feeling rough but at least it remind you that it's real! DS sleeps an average of 12 hours a night. Bed from 6 to 6.30pm and up at 6.30am.

DS has been very clingy today. He has now decided not to sit in his highchair! He has a tantrum every rime I'm trying to get him in it! It's very annoying!!

BabyGiraffes · 29/08/2011 22:59

BC Sorry to hear you are having a tough time. Every pregnancy is different, so even if you have more symptoms now it may also mean no problems later on... Fingers crossed! Smile
I did find tiredness a big problem second time round, not surprisingly with a small child to look after. Hope you feel a bit better when you get to the 2nd trimester Smile. Try to play the pregnancy card as much as possible and request naps/rest for yourself whenever possible Wink and lots of pampering!

SconesForTea · 30/08/2011 08:58

Good morning everyone. Thanks goodness it's only a four day week. I am soooooo tired DD is still teething and now seems to have got in the habit of waking in the night for Calpol. She screams and won't go back to sleep without it. But she is definitely teething, pointy canine poking through the gum and looking sore, so do we carry on administering Calpol when she wakes or not, as she does expect it now? The teething doesn't seem to bother her so much in the day. She does spend half the day with her hand stuffed right inside her mouth, dribbling - a great look Hmm

Bc commiserations, in my humble opinion early pregnancy is absolutely rubbish, I have hated it both times and I didn't even have MS, just overwhelming tiredness (yes worse the second time) and feeling generally in a terrible mood for 12 weeks. Moan all you like on here. And do ask for help from anyone you can think of, especially when DH is away.

Talking of pregnancies... This is still a secret, but my Dsis, who's 42, has just found out she's pg and due in April!! She already has 3 DDs aged 16 to 10, divorced their dad and remarried a couple of years ago to a real soul mate. But he would like a child and she has never wanted any more. A couple of months ago she decided to come off the pill just to see if anything would happen, and so that she could say that they'd tried. And hey presto. Unfortunately she is not ove the moon about it - she can only see the negatives, fatigue, expense, curtailed freedom etc. I am the only person who knows in RL so can't discuss it with anyone (other than DH) hence telling you lot! Poor Dsis is feeling really rough with it too.

What happened to our summer hey? I'm just about to search out another jumper - I'm cold

StoneBaby · 30/08/2011 13:32

DS is at home today as he woke up with 38.8C luckily DH was not working so took over the morning shift while I went to work. I'm now home to enable DH to work from home. We'll probably split tomorrow too. It seems to be either a cold or teething (still missing 4th canine)

scones congratulations for your sister.

BigBadBear · 30/08/2011 13:45

Hello everyone!

I've finally managed to catch up on you all, so...

PA good luck with the move.

IC happy hols!

BC congratulations! But sorry you are feeling a bit green.

Had a lovely holiday, but now have so much washing to do it's not even funny. And how cold is it? I'm freezing!

BabyGiraffes · 30/08/2011 18:06

BBB Glad you had a good time away! Is your dd1 excited about starting school?

dd2's latest offering is 'What a mess!' Ahem.

BabyGiraffes · 30/08/2011 18:08

Scones I can see why your sister might feel it is a bit daunting but in years to come she'll be thrilled to have another little one around Smile

StoneBaby · 30/08/2011 20:21

Welcome back BBB shame about the laundry.

DS went to bed at 5.30pm this evening. He was shattered and still a bit feverish. FX he won't wake up too early. DH enjoyed their morning together and is ready to do it again tomorrow if needed.

bethylou · 30/08/2011 21:17

Hi all. I tried to catch up last night but only got as far as page 9 so I've still got a long way to go. However, just wanted to say that we are still alive and that i hope you are all well.

Must obviously say congratulations to BC (and Scones' DSis) and happy new home to PA (oh and I did at least get to the bit where you wished that Mous's* husband was dead Grin!!!)

Hope SB's DS is feeling better soon.

Will try to come back soon. Back to work next week and into Birmingham Children's Hospital finally next Wednesday night for DS2's sleep study. I'm kind of hoping we might be able to see someone with a cold at the weekend as this will vastly increase the chances of them seeing him stop breathing if he were to catch it. That sounds like the most mad thing ever, but needs must!

Sorry to those whose news I haven't read about yet.

BabyGiraffes · 30/08/2011 22:07

Hello beth, good luck with the sleep study!

dd2 had her 18mths check up today (well, she is nearly 19 months but we were away). She is apparently shorter than I measured her and quite a bit heavier than on my scales (poss due to full nappy - I am a bit complacent and don't always take spares - and wearing shoes). HV did a double take when she casually asked how many words dd2 speaks, and I had to repeat my number. Well, she is rather chatty and I did make a list some weeks back, so I was not exaggerating either. Anyway, all well, no concerns, just a normal stroppy slightly podgy toddler Grin

SconesForTea · 31/08/2011 09:51

Welcome back BBB! Sympathies on the washing. The absolute worst part of going away. I have been on two loads a day for the past week or so (no real idea why Hmm) and today I'm on washing strike.

BG that's interesting that DD2 had an 18m check, our LOs don't get one here, the next check is 2 years I think. Glad all well - but you knew it was Smile

Get well to SB's DS. We had a slightly better night last night so am hoping the teething is done for now

Ah, little darling's just woken up. No more 2 hour naps then - I miss them!
