like scones the flip side of 7am was a few wakings

InmaculadaConcepcion · 13/08/2011 15:00

Was this the DN with HF&M? I take it your DD didn't catch it?
Good effort with two, PA!

Yep, another shoe-lover here - her own and ours. DD likes to pass me my boots to put on when we're getting ready to go out. She's quite proficient at putting her own shoes on now, although she doesn't always get them the right way round and hasn't yet worked out how to do them up...

PenguinArmy · 13/08/2011 15:04

No she didn't thankfully. I felt sorry for DN at the time coz she should have been at home. Same today, she was really tired when DB arrived. Not too sure what's happening with SIL, but at least I've told DB of a few different options. I don't think he'll do anything until she starts threatening again but you can lead a horse to water and all that.

I think I've recovered from the babysitting and also the curry last night. Note to self: curry and pg do not mix especially when consuming lime pickle.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 13/08/2011 15:17

Hot both ends, PA?! Grin

PenguinArmy · 13/08/2011 15:50

IBS wasn't too bad expected that, it was the burps that tasted like barf Envy

enjoy dinner Grin

InmaculadaConcepcion · 13/08/2011 18:36

Thankfully, I read that after eating Grin

PS 2hrs20 nap from DD today Shock

BabyGiraffes · 13/08/2011 19:04

dh has joined us on holiday. I collected him with dd1 from the local airport while dd2 had her lunchtime nap. We got back just as dd2 was waking and she stared at dh for a good few minutes as if she was seeing a ghost Grin. Then it clicked 'Papa!!' and he is actually here! Both girls have been fighting for his attention ever since and dd1 is still turbo-charged now. Guess I will have to wait my turn to greet him properly Wink

LittlebearH · 13/08/2011 20:12

Hello, sorry it has been so long. Just been having a read through, loads to catch up on.

Thanks for all your good wishes.

Well I have to say that CC was a massive success. It only took 3 nights and 1 vomit, as opposed to 2 weeks, 3 vomits and 2 dirty nappies last time. I can recommend at this age as they are very clever now. We checked her every 5 mins, had a pen and note pad next to the monitor and wrote wake up times and the number of times we had to go in to map progress each night. I ditched it on night 5.

She still has the odd wake, but if we let her cry she settles herself within 30 secs-3mins. She was sleeping till 7am but since I have been back to work after my CM holiday, she wakes about 6am-6.30am as DP drops her off at 7am. No more laying on her floor.

Work is hideously busy and I will be 4 days in office from September. I have been seeing my councellor for the last 4 weeks and it going ok, no tears. Yet to feel any different but it seems I have A LOT to say.

What else...? Oh not buying toddler meals for DD on work days at tea time. She prefers my cooking!!! I had time whilst I was off (DP said he likes me being at home - shame we cannot live on 1 salary) My macaroni cheese is a winner.

To be honest, I have found if she "helps" me prepare meals, like putting veg into steamer etc she is more willing to try new food. She now will eat omelette as my mum held her so she could watch me cooking it.

Is my child odd? Loves sprouts, courgettes and olives (thought they were "boobies" (blueberries) on my pizza.

Made cup cakes today with DD sitting on the work top sticking her finger in the mascarpone icing whilst I was decorating them. Grin

BG We have the mealtime meltdowns too. Dare anyone try and help her with the spoon - cue scream/shout/jumping up and down in her highchair!

She had watermelon today and she loved to eat and look at it alongside a book she has with pictures of all different fruits in.

PA/IC How are you settling in being back in UK? Bet the riots made you proud too eh? God it was awful wasn't it. I pass through Catford to work in Dulwich so colleagues who live in affercted areas saw a lot of nasty stuff.

Right well that my me post done.

How is everyones weekend/holiday going??

:)

BabyGiraffes · 13/08/2011 20:23

LBH Glad you are doing okay!
dd2 is usually pretty okay at mealtimes (if I remember not to try and help her, ever!). I think our current problems are down to slightly different parenting ideas between my mum and myself... Hmm This morning she'd put glasses of apple juice in front of both girls - obviously dd2 no longer wanted any milk when she saw the juice... Then she tried to tell dd1 the other day that she couldn't have dessert if she didn't finish her plate. I intervened and said that she had eaten a decent amount (my mum overfills the girls' plates imo) and of course she could have pudding... I would never make a child finish a plate of food if they say they are full! (Also thought I had 'trained' my mum enough when I was little. I clearly remember once having to stay at the table because I refused to finish my meal. I still refused to clear my plate and ultimately won.... Grin. In defence of my mum, when she grew up there wasn't much food around, so she hates wasting anything).

PenguinArmy · 13/08/2011 21:00

LBH It's great to hear you sounding so much better in yourself

StoneBaby · 13/08/2011 21:12

LBH welcome back, good to hear that CC worked and that you're sleeping again.

DH and I went out for a meal tonight while MIL was baby sitting, everything went fine and we were home just 2 hours after we left.

DS has been snaking most of the day and still clear his plate tonight. Today he ate: 1 weetabix, 1 biscuit for breakfast half a slice of bread at 10.30am. The nfor lunch mini gnocchi and a minced steak and 2 yoghurts. 2 pieces of bread when food shopping, 1 cereal bar and a biscuit at 4pm. Dinner was 3 potatoes croquettes and a compote Shock And he drunk lot of water all day long.

We went to pick up DH from work this afternoon and as it was busy we were waiting outside DS was pointing as DH and shouting 'daddy'! The funniest thing was that most customers knew us but one unknown person was quite puzzled as he thought DS was speaking about him Grin

chinook · 13/08/2011 22:19

Hello all. Just back from a long stay with my parents and have had a quick read of everything I had missed.

bc congratulations on your pregnancy. Fantastic news.

LBH great news on improved sleeping.

PA welcome home.

BBB sounds like you made the right decision regarding work. I totally understand your concerns re your dh though. Mine got his parents round to tidy and hoover our house before the dc and I came back from my parents, because, and I quote 'How am I supposed to find time for that when I am work all day?'. WTF??!! Now you will be a lady of leisure (!), I wonder if you might be able to find the time to meet up with a lovely mumsnetter called chinook who lives just down the road from you? On second thoughts, maybe we should wait until ds is through his hair pulling stage......

Had a lovely time with mum and dad but it is just so much more tiring running around after ds in a non child friendly house. His latest trick is to climb on the toilet seat, open the bathroom cabinet and investigate its contents.....

Will be back soon when I have caught up on my sleep....

oh and bg I turn 40 next February too. Still deciding between having a party or crawling under a stone and pretending it's not happening!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 14/08/2011 10:48

What a change, LBH! Just goes to show what a huge difference sleep makes - to you and to your DD. I'm very impressed to hear about the eating, too. And that the counselling is helping you get stuff off your chest. All good! Smile
I like the idea of the LO watching you cooking/preparing food. Might try that with DD, she hasn't tried to throw herself off the work top yet...

Hey, chinook good to hear from you! How outrageous of your DH, I hope you gave him a spanking!
As for turning 40, I had a nice lunch in a pretty town with a few friends and their offspring - but the best thing was my DSis came to stay, that was a great treat, organised secretly by DH.
It was all fairly low-key (I had a bash for my 39th because I was pg and knew 40 was likely to be less of a knees-up with a baby on the scene!) but lovely.

Ha ha at your DS claiming another daddy, SB!

BG good luck with the clash of different parenting ideas...!

StoneBaby · 15/08/2011 18:24

Where is everybody?? Hmm

I've ordered a new potty as I'm convinced the cheapy I bought is too small (DS can't sit on it without his bits been crushed), so hopefully he'll be happier to be on it. \i now know a good time to put him on it which is bath time as he always has a wee as soon as he stands on the water. Bed time are like clock work (most of the time) as he plays, I tell him its bedtime, he ignores me then within 5 mn goes either in the kitchen (where the bottle is) or to the stairs.

chinook your DH needs a good telling off!

LBH I'm not convinced DS will sit on the kitchen work top, but I need to cook messy (ie cake batter...) with him. The nursery do some cooking session and he really likes it.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 15/08/2011 19:00

I'm very impressed with the potty training, SB! We don't even possess a potty as yet! I had thought not to even bother trying until DD is at least two but if she shows signs of being up for it earlier, then fair enough, I'll give it a go.

Yesterday we had a spectacular melt-down at lunchtime - DD was a bit tired and didn't appreciate me removing her food when it was clear she didn't want to eat much of it. She was even crosser when I cleaned her up and got her out of her high chair without offering her anything else.

Mind you, she then ate the little pies DH made her for dinner INCLUDING those with sweetcorn and bits of chopped tomato in (usually not touched or spat out). Her eating hasn't been too bad today, either. I think the being tough thing is having some results. I'm giving DD yoghurt and fruit if she does more than just pick at her main course. I've decided if she's not prepared to eat it, then she clearly isn't hungry. I've also cut back on the snacks.

My mum (who stayed last night) said "You won't let her starve, will you?" genuinely concerned! I said I didn't think she would let herself starve - and it was clear from the evidence of today's nappies that she ingested plenty of food yesterday!

Lunch today DD ate all her mini veg omelettes and quinoa pancakes with cheese and pesto topping then followed it with an entire banana with some Greek yoghurt and pea and fruit mush for pudding.
For supper, she ate enough of her cheesy mash with broccoli and cheesey/peanut butter croutons to satisfy me, so was permitted pudding - another entire banana, more mush and a load of strawberries.
Nope, definitely not starving...!!!

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 16/08/2011 11:55

LBH good work on the sleep.
chinook nice to hear about you. Hmm at your DH.
IC I am sure that you are not starving her.

I am fuming! DD2 was licking a razor this morning Angry I can't check everything that DH does all the time. He is almost 40 and should be able to put things back. She is fine (the razor must have been blunt enough Hmm or I caught her at the very beginning).

I am back in my clothes, almost all of them, so I have now a nice selection of black pants and skirts to choose from Hmm. Some so old that they are back in fashion Grin. I do need tops to hide my diastasis belly and put some colour in.

it is getting hot again here we are going south in a few days too. (hope for a nice rain beforehand)

Bearcrumble · 16/08/2011 12:56

Hi - just popping in to say second blood test was as it should be (119u/l rising to 418u/l 72 hours later) so fingers crossed this is actually happening! I will trot along to the early pregnany unit in a couple of weeks to see if we can see a heartbeat.

ARRRGH LeMousqu licking a razor! Makes your blood run cold to think about it. I have to remind my DH to move his from the side of the bath.

IC DD's food sounds extremely tasty. I'd like some of those sweetcorn and tomato mini pies.

Sleep not so good last night. He went to bed at 8 and slept through until 5.40. Not long enough really. Went to sleep in the pram on the way to sainsbury's at 10 and is still asleep now at 1. DH woke me at 4.30 with his snoring and I never went back to sleep so I have had 6 and a half hours.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 16/08/2011 13:33

That'll be the cravings starting then, Bc Wink
Ooh, bad news on the sleep, sorry to hear that. Did you aim a well-placed elbow at your DH?
We had an 0520 wake up yesterday, the aren't fun, are they? DD did fall back to sleep for half an hour or so after spending an hour fidgeting beside me and NOT falling back to sleep in her cot....
Today was 06.05, which was a distinct improvement...

Eek about the razor, Mous! I don't blame you for being Angry. I'm praying that some of our cool weather will make its way to you (and maybe we get a couple of degrees or so in return...?!)

Lunch was consumed with enthusiasm today, although I didn't challenge DD particularly. A generous helping of mini vegetable potato gnocchi with cream cheese, broccoli and pesto sauce followed by most of a banana and Greek yoghurt.
The great thing about all this banana DD's consuming at the moment is the effect it's having on her nappies - much easier to clean up, thanks to their solidifying effect Grin

Is anyone else having a verbal explosion at the moment? DD is coming out with bunches of new words every day, in English and in Spanish. A month ago she had maybe 40 or so words - we've lost count now.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 16/08/2011 13:40

No, DD2 is still talking in her own language (a lot).

Sorry about the sleep, we had a lot of 7, but since DH has been here it has gone to pot, he seems to be the one waking us.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 16/08/2011 13:40

BC great!

Bearcrumble · 16/08/2011 13:46

I think DS has about 30 words - newest ones are 'Owl' and 'Bear'. He's getting better at pointing to parts of the body and making animal noises and understands things like 'go upstairs' or 'get such-and-such from the Kitchen'.

He was flummoxed when we took him to the kids' zoo at Battersea Park and saw the Lemurs. He went "Cat? Dog? Owl?".

We have another shoe obsessive here - he picks them up and brings them to us going 'shoe...shoe...shoe'.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 16/08/2011 13:54

Forgot to give a little whoopee at your good news, Bc!

Ha ha, yes - shoes are now "patos" here (short for "zapato" which is the Spanish) - a bit confusing because ducks are also "patos" (or "dats") - then we have "pasa" (raisin) and "pasta", but DD will mix and match the two. She was convinced her gnocchi were pasta, but cutely came out with "nit-tee" after I kept renaming them. So I suppose that's three languages...! No, four - this morning we had lots of "merci" ("mess-eee") thanks to my mum teaching her the word yesterday (used out of context, though).

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 16/08/2011 13:59

definitely a shoe obsession here too, but different, she keeps bringing the whole family's shoes and saying "dehors" every 10 sec until we give up (which means "outside")
She points at DH and say "mama": either she still doesn't understand much (which I doubt) or she has a funny sense of humour. DH is getting upset, she can say "papa" just won't say it to DH. Confused

SconesForTea · 16/08/2011 14:04

Bc that is fab news! Congratulations! Grin FX it goes well for you.

We are having a word explosion too - DD comes out with new ones seemingly every day - we couldn't work out what she was saying the other morning and then realised it was "morning"! She still doesn't put the end consonants on so duck is "du" and book is "buh" but most of the time I can work out what she means. It is a lovely, lovely time Smile

Great going with the eating IC! I've taken a hard line with DD's eating too, reasoning that she won't let herself starve, and she is definitely more inclined to eat dinner if she hasn't been snacking.

Mous Angry at your DH, seems him being back is a mixed blessing... Hurrah for you that you're back in your clothes!

I'm interested in potty training too SB! DD also has a wee most nights in the bath and we now sit her on her potty before and ask her if she wants to do a wee in her potty. She generally says "yes" but hasn't done a wee in it yet - still doing them in the bath...

She quite often tells us she's done a poo and is right about half the time. I don't think I'll have her potty trained by October though Hmm so it'll be two lots of nappies for a while.... erk. That'll test my eco-credentials!

LBH sooooo pleased to hear that things have improved for you. A lovely idea having DD 'help' to prepare meals, I haven't tried that yet, she is interested when I cook but I'd be scared of her falling off the work surface to watch.

I must stop eating chocolate biscuits (4 so far Blush) and haul myself off the sofa, I have a door to paint.

BigBadBear · 16/08/2011 15:42

Congrats BC!

IC sounds like you're doing well on the food. I must adopt a harder line myself...

Mous that sounds awful, but at least no damage was done. My DD1 did cut her lip with a razor at the same age your DD2 is now, and it looked like a horror film.

PA hope you got your anti-D sorted.

LBH you sound much more positive, it's good to see.

stone good luck with the potty training!

BG holiday still going well?

chinook would be great to meet up. Are you on the FB group (sorry, I've lost track a bit of who is who), so I can see who you really are and organise something?
