New thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BabyGiraffes · 12/08/2011 09:59

My dad came down last night to tell me it really was time to go to bed Grin. Once a child.....

BabyGiraffes · 12/08/2011 11:34

dd2 is having a bad day and is clinging to me like a baby monkey Sad

Bearcrumble · 12/08/2011 11:40

Took DS to have his iron levels checked today. The phlebotomist messed up both arms so I got a hysterical DS with blood/bruises on the crook of each elbow and no blood sample. Will have to try again in a couple of weeks when hopefully he'll have forgotten. He's fine now - a helium balloon and a bag of organix cheesey puffs later.

BabyGiraffes · 12/08/2011 13:02

bear Sad

Bearcrumble · 12/08/2011 13:43

And you - hope she cheers up xx

BabyGiraffes · 12/08/2011 13:47

I have given up trying to justify to my mum why dd2 is so shouty. I think part of the problem is that she has a lot more freedom at home and can wander and explore at her leisure. My parents have done a lot to make the house as child friendly as possible but I still can't leave her unattended because I am less aware of where possible dangers are - if that makes sense.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 12/08/2011 13:58

Aw, Bear, your poor little DS Sad
Thank goodness for baby corn snacks, eh?!

I love your dad telling you to go to bed, BG!
Give your DD2 a little cuddle from me too.

Hmm, I'd be chuffed if we could get DD to eat peas (she'll take them when pureed with pear....but not au naturel) or tomato (which I get down her by hiding under melted cheese on bread pizza...) or indeed ANY vegetable-type thing (tomato is strictly a fruit, isn't it?)
Lunch today was a couple of mini egg mayonnaise sarnies and a couple of cream cheese and peanut butter mini sarnies (wholemeal bread) followed by three greengages. Breakfast was Shreddies (well, the cheap own brand version) with a bit of Special K (ditto), some baby muesli stirred in, a sprinkle of raisins and a couple of prunes.
So overall, pretty healthy. Which is something.

I had a bit of a moment when I felt a rather firm lump in my left boob last night, so after much monkeying around with dodgy phone connections, managed to get to the doctors so she could cop a feel of it. Upshot is, she doesn't think it's anything to worry about, phew.
Which means despite having a trying morning with communications technology and not a huge amount of sleep after 04.30 (when DD woke up a bit feverish - nothing's come of it so far, although she did a rather liquid nappy later in the morning, so I s'pose she might have had a bit of a tummy upset) I actually feel pretty chipper. Happy to be alive and all that Smile

BabyGiraffes · 12/08/2011 14:18

IC pour you, what a fright. At least you went straight to have it checked. I walked around for months a few years back with what I thought was a lump. It was nothing but I could have saved myself quite a lot of worry!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 12/08/2011 14:39

I'm happy to be labelled a bit of a hypochondriac provided there's nothing to actually worry about...!
Actually, I don't frequent the doctor's with imaginary illnesses very often, but in this case I have four friends of my own age who have had breast cancer (including one man - and one friend who sadly died Sad ) so I'm not inclined to take any chances...
Sorry to hear you had that worry too BG.

Aw, the way toddlers understand certain things is so cute!
DD was helping me empty the washing machine and she saw one of the washable wipes we use. She immediately said "poo-poo" and mimed wiping her face (!) with it - but switched to her bottom when I pointed out that we mostly use them for her bum-bum/culito.
I love that DD is fully interchangeably bilingual for wee-wee/poo-poo, bottom and - randomly - duck.

PenguinArmy · 12/08/2011 15:09

BG Know what you mean. Put DD down while I went to get nappy stuff in adjoining room (Mother DH had just woken her up, but also just poured me a coffee which I told him to put on a shelf). Suddenly hear 'hot hot' from DD and there she swishing the cup around ShockAngry. Somehow she didn't get any on herself, but you need an extra set of eyes to normal because you despite making the place baby safe someone comes along a second later.

IC :) for you, glad you got it sorted out so quickly and DD is OK

BC Your poor DS, are you going to ask for a more experienced person next time?

Just been told friends DD has slapped cheek but looks like it's a problem if pg at 20 weeks and under.

DD woke clearly too early today (6am but 8pm sleep) and after her first nap. She's just a longer second nap so hopefully that's fixed it. I think it would have been longer if mothers DH hadn't come home, as alright as he is he has no idea how to be quiet (which I don't mind but he is inherently loud).

sorry bit of a moan from me but has been a good day on the non-slatternly front and I just had a nap myself.

BabyGiraffes · 12/08/2011 16:34

IC my mum had breast cancer at 44 so I guess I am quite paranoid (and then very capable to put my head in the sand)... Smile
Sorry to hear about your friends.

PA Oh yes, eyes at the back of my head and sides and top... Grin. Found dd2 wielding a very sharp small kitchen knife the other day. My mum hadn't realised she is tall enough to reach over the edge of the worktop and had left it there after peeling potatos.

Reminds me, have to eat a few more potatoes before dh joins us tomorrow and wants pasta.... Smile.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 12/08/2011 16:43

Some more thoughts on a gift, People...

I'm to become Godmother to one of my best friend's little boy in a couple of weeks time.

My idea is to name a start for him as Christening gift..... Would you like that if a prospective godparent did the same for your LO?

BG, PA eek!!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 12/08/2011 16:44

ahem "name a star "

StoneBaby · 12/08/2011 18:26

I'm going out tonight!! DH is baby sitting and I'll be meeting a couple of friends and it's going to involve a few drinks Grin

Waves to all

BabyGiraffes · 12/08/2011 21:02

Stone enjoy Smile

dd2 had a major meltdown over dinner which started when my mum decided her food needed to be cut up smaller... Hmm (I do cut her food up but before I put the plate in front of her). She took exception to this... When she started throwing food on the floor I took her, put her in another room, and closed the door on her. For less than a minute but she was beside herself! I got her back in and asked her if she wanted to eat with us, and she sat down and carried on as if nothing had happened. Feel a bit Sad that I was put in that position (my mum meant well but I know my daughter and her spectacular temper tantrums better) but couldn't let dd2 behave quite that badly either (while ignoring my mum's repeated questioning why dd2 is so shouty). And she's only 18 mths. Heaven help me when she reaches the terrible 2s...

PenguinArmy · 12/08/2011 22:29

My family have been copying her 'whines' and lots of 'your grumpy' 'why are you so whingy' err because of you mainly Grin but from the sounds of it we're lucking out on proper tantrums for the time being. I'm in doubt she has it in there somewhere just needs a bit more nurturing.

night ladies

SB I didn't know a night away was allowed Grin Hope you had a lovely time.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 13/08/2011 09:08

Maybe she's getting the Terrible Twos out the way now, BG?

PenguinArmy · 13/08/2011 09:40

oh my word, woke up this morning not feeling great.

7:45 knock on the door and I realised I had forgotten I was looking after DN this morning. There has only been 1 injury so far.

The bloods I had retaken in the UK as they sent me the results have been messed up

at least it's practice Grin

PenguinArmy · 13/08/2011 09:40

*didn't send the results (from the first time)

SconesForTea · 13/08/2011 10:35

PA what? Sorry not following you. How old is DN? Brave you looking after two before you have to Smile So are you living with your mum atm?

IC very relieved for you.

Bc very happy for you! Have you had the latest HCG results?

SB enjoy your night out tonight Grin

Mous I hope your DH is home this weekend and taking the strain. I think if you can't decide what to do with some time on your own, could you just go somewhere nice (nice cafe or something) and take a really good book and get stuck in for a couple of hours? With a cup of coffee and a slice of something delicious?

It is VERY hard looking after children on your own (well in my case only one child at the moment) and I go fairly crazy after one day without adult interaction. I would be round the bend if I was on my own wtih DD day after day, plus no DH in the evenings. You must have the patience of a saint. It's not 'natural' for humans to be alone (or alone with children) most of the time - we are social animals and evolved to live in social groups. Huge sympathies.

DD ate vegetable pasta for dinner last night which I was shocked at, I fully expected her to refuse it. She ate pieces of pepper, carrot and courgette which is a first (the courgette, she usually picks it out). Made a face at fennel, fair enough!

DD slept until 8am this morning Shock after keeping us awake between 11pm and 12.30am last night Hmm and I'm still not dressed yes (see I am slatternly) Have a friend due round in 30mins to toodlepip all, have a great weekend!

StoneBaby · 13/08/2011 11:43

No hangover this morning but tired (came home at midnight - just before I transformed into a pumpkin Grin ). DS is having his nap before lunch today and I think I'm going to join in!

scones well done on the veg

PA hoping you get get your blood redone. I am sure a night out from time to time is allowed (I'm sure I read it somewhere Grin ), check your contract!

bc great news and Sad about your DS bad experience in blood taking.

BabyGiraffes · 13/08/2011 11:49

dd2 went hysterical when I tried to go off and have a shower, but then a bit later very happily toddled off with my dad and the doll's buggy for a long walk. Wish she could be a little more consistent with her clingyness Hmm

BabyGiraffes · 13/08/2011 12:17

Hilarious sight just now... My dad took both girls to a playground some way away and they were caught up in a rain shower. They just returned with dd2 sitting in the doll's buggy, pushed by dd1, with my dad carrying the doll and dd1's scooter... Grin Wish I'd had my camcorder ready but instead I rushed down to help because dd2 was not very amused Wink

StoneBaby · 13/08/2011 12:35

BG Grin

Are any of your LO fascinatedby your or DH shoes? DS loves to carry them in to living room, and to put them on!

PenguinArmy · 13/08/2011 14:21

DD loves all shoes, has done for ages. I'm training her to do my shoes for when I'm too fat to do it myself Grin

Finally DN has gone. Because they arrived quite early this morning and DD slept to 7, I had only just given DD breakfast. I managed to get DN fed, both dressed, washed, snacked and a few nappy changes but got breakfast for me at 1:15pm and dressed at 2. I think we may struggle with DDs sleep once Nigel arrives. Neither of them napped and even though DN was really tired DB hung around for nearly 2 hours when all I wanted to do was put DD down and tidy up. Was certainly insightful having the two of them without preparation in a house that isn't mine. Grin

The only issue with the bloods is that they keep saying I'll have the anti-D after the blood test but I'm already booked in to have the jab at the end of the window. Fri when I'll be 31+6 so not sure if I need the bloods taken again before then (if that makes sense)

yes scones I'm at my mums (along with her DH, one sister, one brother and one step brother plus two dogs and two cats). Anyone fancy a visitor Grin
