Uwaah... Just when I thought things were under control and normal service could resume, someone attempted to break into our house last night. :( :( Angry

They've caused a whole load of criminal damage to the outside, but fortunately the super secure locks we have on our tough uPVC doors held. Unfortunately it means I now, inbetween working, have to deal with the police, insurance and clean up ASAP so that prospective buyers don't run a mile!

It makes me feel sick, really... We were all in our home asleep when someone was doing this; My baby girl by herself in her room. :( What if they'd succeeded?

Oh spirael that is just awful. I expect it'll take you a while to feel relaxed again but as tsc said, at least you know your locks work well. Be kind to yourselves, you'll probably be a bit in shock.

chul don't fancy food?! Wow! I hope the sickness stops soon. I agree it makes sense to have your colours done and then wait til you've done all your pg and lost any weight before you do the style. I think you need both to get full impact tho (if you're that interested chack out my latest post to the 'coral' thread for full details of my outfit today!)

mlic can you get some aveeno for w?

woodlands F's always been rash-tastic too (very sensitive, eczema-prone skin inherited from dh) so we're the same - we don't worry about it too much unless it's something out of the ordinary.

Spirael · 16/08/2011 10:51

We'll have to get a new lock for the back door. They broke the one there, but it did its job well and broke in such a way that it foiled them from gaining access and jammed the door in a locked position. I think we'll be getting another one of those locks, somehow!

We also need a new handle for the back door, as in their efforts (and frustration?) they snapped part of it off. At least they gave up at that point rather than finding the brick holding down the lid of the sandpit and lobbing it through the conservatory window. Confused

My work are letting me leave early and the police are coming around this afternoon, but I doubt they can do much. It's been raining, so any fingerprints will be long gone. :(

The insurance company are going to get back to me within the next two days about repairing the damage. It had better be quicker than two days! We're meant to be visiting relatives over the weekend but I'm not leaving my house unattended overnight until the door is fixed.

Woodlands · 16/08/2011 11:00

How awful spirael, but great that your locks held. I would imagine they won't be back as it's not worth the hassle.

Trudyla · 16/08/2011 11:33

ffThanks for all your concern. I think I'd really rather not dwell on it. Let's just leave it at things have been rather tough, M has turned things up a notch, even though I didn't think that was possible (she went for ffthe nigfhts now which had been OK so far and now we had to deal with pretty much 24hour screaming) and I couldn't see anything positive in my life anymore which I found so worrying. I seem to be coping a bit better now, so I'm trying to be back on a bit more now.

I've not commented on so many things so it will be impossible to respond to everything. I will just do the ones that stick in my mind.

spirael You poor, poor thing. You must be really shaken up. I really struggled affter they broke in to burn the prams, so know how you ffeel. Good news on the locks being fgood. What type are they, so I'll know for future refference? I hope you can get over the ffear soon. Like woodlands said, they are unlikely to be back cos they like to go for easy targets.

fchulita I also read tsc's comment as she would really go for her in the sense of slap her one, and only realised after cake's comment Grin

chulita again, your comment stuck in my mind about you not knowing how people can work when they are pregnant. Well, I have the ffopposite, I can't understand how well you are doing with looking after two kids while feeling so rough. I sftruggle enough as it is with one and I can honestly say that no job I ever had, with all the nice tea and chat breaks and sitting down checking the internet, was ever as tough as looking after children. But maybe that's just me Smile . Anyway, I frfeally hope you'll feel better soon.

I don't think my pregnancy with M was this exhausting. People with experience of both, would you say that carrying a boy is harder than a girl? On the antenatal thread someone said that, cos they are generally bigger than girls. I could at anytime of the day, drop everything and go to sleep. Sadly, not an option.

tsc I never knew that about chickenpox but am glad I do nowff. I'm so sorry about all your worries with F. You arfe doing a grand job at keeping on top of it and staying upbeat. I'm sure I would be a blubbering mess by now.

cake Your colour thing sounds really good and I think I will def go for one once back in shape and UK. How do I know what your other thread is? Also, fcan evferyone see the threads I'm posting on? And if so, where?f Not that I have anything to hide, just wondering.

viskf Sorry about the thrush. I'm religiously using a type of yogurt shower gel and am convincing myselff and my body that fthis is keeping it at bay.

mlic and woodland Hope your babies' skin will be on fthe mend soon.

RFight, I'd better be off now. Hope you're all Ok

Chulita · 16/08/2011 12:04

spirael :( that's a horrible thing to happen, I hope you can still feel safe in your home and rest easier knowing they couldn't get through your doors.

trudyla thanks for thinking the same thing re tsc's comment Grin tbh I found carrying S much, much easier than L but I had hyperemesis with her. The plus with L was that I could sleep whenever I needed whereas even when they nap together now I've got loads to do. I'm finding it pretty full-on with DH gone and have started going to bed around 8.30 cos otherwise I just can't manage the next morning. I deffo had more energy with S, don't know how but I did.

mlic L reacts to E45, you could try olive oil, believe it or not it works quite well, I don't use it for L simply because we have to cover her in it but if it was just a patch I'd use it. Otherwise vaseline or even sudocreme can work, it's just finding what works on your baby's skin. Aveeno's good too.

cake I know re going off food, I was like this with L too (except throwing up 10-20 times a day which I'm not this time thank goodness!). Nothing appeals at all except crisps, cornflakes and tuna sandwiches... I find cooking for the dc really hard work at the mo and I miss baking cos that's my unwinding time!

Oh spireal thats terrible you poor thing. It makes me so angry to hear that type of story :(
Cakes my mum just wanted to bring her away! There was my mum and E, my aunt and her grandaughter and then 2 friends of theirs and their kids. They went down to a cottage in a seaside town and they had such a good time!
Stac are you still going to scottish slimmers?

Dylthan · 16/08/2011 15:59

spirael that's horrible. :( I hope the insurance company don't drag their heels in sorting it out for you.

Since no one else seems to be feeding their babies through the night how did you get them to stop or did they just decide to themselves? I think I probably should have taken the night feed off her before I took the dummy away. :(

CakeandRoses · 16/08/2011 17:00

Wow! First day working in London since I've been back. Was lovely swanning around, buying nice lunch and drinks, acting all important at the design agency etc :D. Feel like I've stepped back in time so will be weird to be back in mother-mode when I collect F and A from nursery later.

Really pleased you're back trudy. I know I'm a broken record but I think there has to be an underlying allergy or illness causing that much screaming. When did the docs last see M?

I found my pregnancies v similar but much more knackering with A as I had F keeping me up at night etc. I found working and being pg with F very easy - I was still commuting into London right up to my last day before maternity leave. So I think it's more about individual pregnancies and the circumstances.

That's interesting mlic. Would you be averse to taking anti-Ds if they were prescribed or do you think he means counselling or other support?

Dylthan I just cuddled and shushed and patted A when she woke up for her 3am feed. I think she was only stirring for her dummy after a few nights and then stopped waking then altogether. With F I dropped the dummy first but followed the same method otherwise.

OP posts:
Chulita · 16/08/2011 18:01

dylthan I did cc with S but he took to it very easily, hardly any crying iirc, I think he was ready to drop it and just needed a little push.

cake sounds like a nice day Envy how lovely to get paid to swan around Wink

mlic what would you like out of this? or have you got no idea? I would agree with W picking up on whatever signals you're putting out. A friend of mine did have pnd quite badly and her little girl was very insecure/clingy/easily upset til she was well over a year old. Funny what they pick up on...

S is cutting 4 teeth at the same time and is doing remarkably well considering. L was a demon teether so it's great to have a baby that just sort of sprouts them without any fuss. He also says mama, dada, gandad, dis, and no. L's name is a kind of variation of deediss, very cute but bears no resemblance!

MelissaM · 16/08/2011 20:23

L is waking again at 5 for a feed and then I'm up for the day :( although he goes back to sleep

Chul glad I'm not the only one that thought tsc was going to go for her friend! :) I was more exhausted with 2nd pg - think you'd be pretty tired running round after toddler anyway

spirael that sounds horrific. Glad you're ok and they didn't get in

Shatter after 2 x 9 hr days but that is my working week done phew!

memphis83 · 16/08/2011 20:26

trudyla really hope things improve for you and keep coming on here to vent!

spirael oh goodness poor you, your locks did well to foil them, my house is like a fortress since the attempted break ins when I had L, if they had tried the house on the first attempt rather than the shed then they would have been in, keep pressing the insurance to hurry up with everything, tell them you have a baby and dont feel safe as they door is.

Been work today, im pissed off with my sister she had L today and took him to bed at 2.30 for a nap, she fell asleep and when I got there AFTER 5 they were still asleep so L is still not asleep now, she has him again Friday and ive told her if she lets him sleep so long again she wont have him again, I know it seems trivial but after 4 days of change I wanted his routine back!

Oooh i love camping tsc its just the bloody weather in this country that spoils it!
trudy glad ur back, i feel absolutly knackered and very moody bitch baggy too, poor DH.
spireal thats sucks big time, must have made u feel horrid, hope the police found something and the insurance sort it asap!
chu i have been having the yogs and i do think they have helped, must remember to have one a day at least.

To all those that have double buggys, what do u have, why did u choose that one and would u reccomend it. If u could choose again what would u choose?
I believe there was some slight disagrement last time this was mentioned, i dont want to open up old wounds so if u can agree to differ....... cake and chu ..........that would be lovely!!!!
I have been looking at the city select, its so versatile but Very expensive, will i need the versatility iyo or not?? Lady in the shop said to get the city mini double instead??
Hope everyone has a good night, dont know what im still doing up, my bed is veritably shouting my name!!!

viksam · 16/08/2011 22:47

oh yeah tsc i thought u were going to 'go' for her as well, we must all be very violent on here atm!!! haha.

viksam · 17/08/2011 07:19

Morning all,
Good night here, D slept till about 6.20, up at 6.30. I however was up in the night with my hairbrush!!!!!haha no only joking, although thats what i felt like doing! cake that did make me laugh, vile, christ she must have been sore!
Hope u all had a good night.
Im off to work today, another day of everyone speculating what im going to do after my maternity etc etc. Boring. Wish i could stay home with D and DH who is off this week!
Have a good day all.

Chulita · 17/08/2011 07:29

viks cake loves her city mini double. I've got the single version of it and it's got a lot of good things about it: incredibly easy to fold, very narrow (even the double fits through doorways no problem), lovely big sun canopy, well fitting raincover. I have found the wheels are a bit smaller than the Nipper so on rougher pavement the front wheel can get stuck sideways which is a bit irritating. I've got the 360 Nipper and tbh despite a couple of flaws, I'd still go for that over the city mini. It's mega easy to push (and cake I did test push a city mini double with both children and I stand by the Nipper being easier Grin) but it's not easy to fold, the raincover's not brilliant and the sun canopy is average sized rather than all-encompassing like the city mini. I love mine but we go in and out through the garage so I never have to fold it, despite it looking wide it fits through most doors and I've yet to find a shop it won't go it so it would go through our front door but we've got nowhere to store it inside.

Imo if you go for lots of long walks, sometimes run with it, go cross-country(ish), don't need to fold it up and put it in the back of your car and have somewhere to store it, go for the Nipper.
If you want something easy to pop in the car, fold it whilst clutching a baby, not have your toddler get wet feet in heavy rain, and be able to keep any amount of sunshine out of their eyes, go for the City Mini.

tsc I love camping, wouldn't dream of doing it with my two though. I had the tent up in the garden the other week and was longing for a camping holiday!

memphis that would piss me off too, she didn't have to deal with the consequences!

vik sorry I shouldn't have put the hairbrush idea in your head :)

I think chul's given a good summary actually < begrudging > but just to add the City is better to steer than any other buggy I've tried, so whilst it might not be as easy as the Nipper, you prob won't notice that unless you're using it cross-country or running like chul says. The nipper wouldn't fit thru our front door so that was the decider for us anyway. And don't forget to measure the gap with the door open!

DesperateHousewife21 · 17/08/2011 08:07

I think we had a better night but D decided to get up at 6am, hes now moaning because he'd tired.

Ive got no plans today which is a first, DH is working late so Ill probably go to my mums but she doesnt get home til 4 so Ive got alot of time to kill first.

memphis83 · 17/08/2011 08:24

dh dont you ever think oooh I will chill in the house for the day? I have today as the only day off today, and I plan on going for a little walk in the sun and apart from that chilling out, I would be so tired if I was on the go like you are everyday Grin

L went to sleep at just after 8.30, woke screaming with his teeth at 11, then woke at 6.15 so not so bad after all!
Ive ordered 2 playsuits for the wedding do we are going to, but after catching my leg last week getting bike out I have a black bruise the size of Africa on my calf, tattoo concealer required I think!
Quiet week this week FIL is away on hols Grin

Quick question, I was talking to DH last night about another baby and he says he is now thinking he wants to stop at L as it would finish us as he wouldnt cope if I got PND again, would it be a deal breaker if you wanted another baby and DH didnt? I think I would be willing to walk if we both want such different things just wondered about others views (when we met he always wanted 2, I wanted 1, and both had agreed to have another after L in a year or so's time)

CakeandRoses · 17/08/2011 08:39

enjoy your FIL-free week memph

are you saying you will walk if dp doesn't want another child or are you asking us a hypothetical question? i don't think i would leave have left dh if he only had wanted 1 but i'm not sure we'd have stayed together if he hadn't wanted children at all. with us it could have been a timing-issue as due to my advancing years Grin i kinda needed to have children relatively quickly (ttc after just over a year together) and thankfully dh was fine with that. not sure what we'd have done if he hadn't been ready.

i really hope you two come to a happy agreement about having another one.

bloody F has just taken most of the books out of his bookcase as I told him off for being rough. he has tons of books so i can barely get in his bedroom for books now Angry

and in other news, i totally cocked up my dates and am now v worried i'm pg (again!) i'm so annoyed with myself. dh said last night that he'd be quite pleased if we had three. i would be if it wasn't me whose body and career would take another bloody battering. i keep thinking i feel nauseous but i always do this so it's probably just imagination.
