Boobarella - hope you had a good time, where did you find the energy Grin

DD had her 1st set of jabs yesterday, she was fine apart from being a bit grumpy. She was asleep for the first one, woke up with a little cry and then screamed with the second one. Nurse was lovely allowed me to suckle her in the room while she taped on the cotton wool and filled in the notice then pointed out some chairs out in the corridor where I could continue to feed (they only allow 5mins for each appt so had to vacate the room sharpish! Co-incidentally the lady who went in before me who was taking her dd for her second set of jabs, I know from one of the breastfeeding groups and so we were both sat in the corridor feeding our babies, we got a couple of double takes. Sadly bfing rates in my area are low - 59% initiation, and only 10% still feeding at 10 weeks.

misshoohaa · 17/08/2011 09:22

Hi all,
Wow clubbing!! Im impressed! Me & hubby are going on our first alone date since mr x arrived! Parents baby sitting so will be getting on the pump soon.

kara it's amazing how immune I've got to feeding in public, I just don't even think about it most of the time but sometime have to check myself that I need to keep the flashing to a minimum as it might make others feel uncomfortable. So far I haven't had any dirty looks or comments so i think
On the whole people are really understanding or just don't even notice!

Getting out with bub is tough but i find hiss day naps are much better when we're out and about. I guess the buggy/ car combo is nice and soothing. DS won't fall for the inside buggy trick, back and forth on the spot doesn't cut it!

booberella · 17/08/2011 17:02

haha, it amazes me how they know you are just going backwards and forwards on the spot- I had to do laps of John Lewis the other day while my mother faffed around buying a lantern of all things! every time I stopped and tried the back and forth trip she would realise and screech!
Yeah I don't know where I found the energy either, probably from the fact I never drink caffeine and was on cola all night!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 17/08/2011 22:02

It's the same when dd is in the sling, I have to keep moving, she whinges if I stand still! Rocking in the pushchair doesn't cut it here either.
RE: NIP I couldn't care less about making other people uncomfortable but I don't particularly want people staring at my norks so I try to cover up as much as possible. Though who on Earth would want to look at my saggy boobs I will never know - stick to the Sun fellas Wink

motherofsnortpigs · 19/08/2011 21:42

Yay for bolshy breastfeeders! I've not tried a bottle on Percy yet. I have expressed a few times, but today was the first time it got to the freezer before DD2 and DS1 had a fight to guzzle it back. O well, it does them good too, I suppose.

WiiUnfit · 20/08/2011 11:43

Morning ladies!

Apologies I haven't been around, we've been quite busy doing what seems like not alot Hmm BFing is still going great, Lucas slept 6hrs between feeds a few nights ago, I woke up thinking something was wrong & with extremely full boobs! Since then we've had 4-5hr stretches between night feeds, lots of clustering in the evening & fairly frequent day feeds. I had a dentist appointment so I expressed some milk but got back earlier than I thought but didn't want to waste the EBM so DP put it in a bottle, Lucas didn't want to wait until it was even warm & guzzled 6oz. There was me thinking 'no, he won't take it, he'll need me', I felt a bit redundant but DP loved it as obviously he's not been able to feed him!

Lucas had his first jabs on 3rd August while I had my postnatal check, I was not impressed Angry The stupid GP said 'just place a hand on his foot' & then injected him without warning, needless to say his leg jerked & he was left with a very sore, red & swollen leg that then ended up in a lovely shade of purple! :( He was on calpol for the next couple of days & I had to be so careful when feeding him to make sure he wasn't putting too much weight on it.

She also measured his head wrong, mucked up his weight chart in his red book & told me he was dropping centiles (he's not at all), didn't check his spine or fontanelle, didn't check my CS scar, had a go at me for my weight before realising I'm now the same as pre-pg weight & made out I have PND. Lucas got his own back though, he wee'd all over her. Grin

Since then though, he's starting giving me & DP the most beautiful smiles which is the most lovely feeling in the world! He weighed 10lb 4oz on 10/08/11 so I'm guessing if he's continued on the same rate, if we take him on Wednesday, when he'll be 11 weeks, he'll be about 11lb (double his birth weight!) :)

And my periodcame back this morning despite EBF'ing Angry

cantrememberanynurseryrhymes · 21/08/2011 20:22

Hi all...have been reading all the comments on here over the past dew days (mainly whilst feeding!) and would love to join the gang. Have only just started using MN so wasnt on any of the Antenatal groups.
Had my first dc (Florence) on 6th June (due on 29th may but she had other ideas).
Had a water birth and everything pretty much went to plan (although it was longer and hurt more than I was expecting!).
BFing exclusively but DD had some expresses milk early in then we tried her again yesterday and she was having none of it. Will try other bottles/teats to see if it makes a difference.
On the sling front, we're using the ergo with the baby insert. Its great and helps to get her to sleep during the day (she would stay awake all day if we let her).
She generally sleeps 5-6 hours from 8pm to 1ish then 2-3 hour stretches after that but we had a really bad night last night where she wouldn't settle. Fingers crossed for a better one tonight.
Would love to join the FB group too if you'll have me?

KaraStarbuckThrace · 21/08/2011 21:46

MOSP Grin at your DCs intercepting the milk, DS declined my offer of a bottle that DD didn't take much of Sad Maybe I should have put it in a cup!

WiiUnfit - yey for bfing go well, boo for period returning, how sucky :( Do you use a dummy at all? I blame the dummy for my periods returning when DS was 9 weeks old, DD won't take one and she is now 10 weeks and so far no period.

Cantremember - welcome and congrats on baby Florence! She sounds like she is doing well Smile PM Nursesunshine or Moomin to be added to the Facebook group.

Cara is sleeping longer at night, now doing 5 hour stretches, woohoo! Hope it lasts!

8rubberduckies · 21/08/2011 22:12

Hi all... can I sneak back into the crew with my tail between my legs please? Smile. Sorry I've been out of action for the past month, but I kind of stopped posting because I never had the time, or two free hands, then as time went on it became increasingly difficult to catch up with everyone's posts, and you know how it goes... Anyway, I have skim-read the whole thread now, and it is lovely to hear how everyone is getting on. Seems like most people have buggered off to Facebook though, so I will also be popping my head in there later to beg forgiveness.

Ruby is 8.5 weeks now, I can hardly believe it. She is a smiley little thing, but suffers really badly with wind, and struggles to sleep much during the day unless she's in the car or sling, although she sleeps like a dream at night, so I can't really complain.

DS is making sure my hands are always full and I'm always really busy, I don't know how people cope with more than two, I feel like I'm constantly on the go, and torn between them most of the time too! I am enjoying it though, and am feeling a lot more positive than when I last posted.

Hope everyone else is well x

WiiUnfit · 22/08/2011 08:25

Kara, yes - we introduced one after his 8wk jabs (just over 2 weeks ago) So I blame that! Upside though - I haven't had any period pain, I think it's because they cut my nerves during my CS Grin Hope Cara does more 5hr stretches, after 2-3hrs max of uninterrupted sleep it's like a bloody lie in isn't it!?

Lucas had a lovely 6hr stretch of sleep last night after not sleeping at all between about 12pm & 8pm! Was very Hmm as to how he was awake for that length of time, especially after he had quite a bad night on Saturday & only slept for 1/2 an hour in the car yesterday morning! We had a grumpy patch about 6pm that quickly passed & he was all smiles, kicks & gurgles at 7!? But not at DP as he has temporary favourites & I was the person of choice last night!

Welcome cantremember, congratulations on Florence. You both sound like you're doing very well. :)

I think I'm about to bite the bullet & get an iPad to keep me awake entertained whilst feeding (it would be used at other times too obv & DP will geek out on use it). Does anyone have one?

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 22/08/2011 09:47

well after 5 nights of 8+ hour stretchs of sleep I am thinking I can tentatively say that Alba is sleeping through the night now Grin Now I just need to get her going to bed at 7pm. It's been 8.30 the last few nights and I'll put her down at 8 tonight. I'd be more excited about having evenings back if DH wasn't heading off to bed just after Alba, but his meds make him sleepy so not much I can do (other than perhaps have a glass of Wine?)

DS has been back at playgroup for a week now and it is bliss having a couple of hours of calm and quite in the morning Grin. It has also helped with getting a routine going, which I think is part of why Alba is sleeping through.

On the dummy/period front. DS was ebf for 8 and a half months and never had a dummy, but my periods still came back at 7 weeks. I was very Angry. How do dummy's cause periods? 7 and a half weeks now and still no period so quite pleased.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 22/08/2011 09:49

Sorry meant to say Welcome and Hello CRANR Grin. Moomin also has a Florence.

addictedtogaviscon · 22/08/2011 11:06

Hi cantremember, yes i also have a Florence who should have been born on the 6th June (spooky) but she had other ideas and came 3 months early!! Thankfully she is a little star and doing fabulously.......The FB group is much busier than here, but i cant add people. Nursesunshine can though

cantrememberanynurseryrhymes · 22/08/2011 11:27

Thanks for the welcomes. Have pn'd nursesunshine re FB.
moomin very spooky about our florence's dates. Glad she's thriving. Must have been a big surprise.

For the second morning in a row, Florence has refused to go back in her Moses basket to sleep after 5.30am - previously we were able to keep putting her back down after feeds til about 8/9am. Has anyone else experienced this? We're wondering if it's separation anxiety? She's 11 weeks today and is still in our room. She's still swaddled at the moment as she still jumps in her sleep but we'll have to move her into growbags soon as she's getting too bi for the swaddle blankets.

Any comments gratefully received x

motherofsnortpigs · 22/08/2011 13:32

moomin have you name changed? My poor addled brain... kara blaming a dummy for the return of your periods - sounds a bit bonkers, but maybe baby sucks less so body thinks it's ready for another one?! I'm with COAAF I rang the mw because I felt unwell and she had to tell me I had my period. I just don't function on any kind of logical level anymore. Hey ho...

moomin156 · 22/08/2011 15:05

LOL whoops yes i used my other username..........still moomin really though Grin

KaraStarbuckThrace · 22/08/2011 15:09

MOSP - basically even your baby is comfort sucking rather thsan feeding, it still inhibits the hormones that would trigger ovulation. Any disruption at all, such as introducing dummies or bottles or mum eating too much can allow the restart of ovulation.
In the developing world, where mums carry their babies, babies are never allowed to cry and babies are self weaned from the breast, mums only produce babies once every 3-4 years despite the parents being sexually active (in those cultures that don't have a taboo against sex with breastfeeding mothers) and not using other forms of contraception.
TBH it was unfair of me to just blame the dummy, there are other factors such as not always responding to DS's feeding cues, being very overweight as well. IN societies where mothers were on a subsistance level diet, studies were done to see if suplementing the maternal diet would help produce more/better BM. It made no difference but it narrowed the age gap of subsequent children as periods returned sooner.
I've tried this time around to be more responsive to DD's feeding cues and to lose weight as well as i am even heavier now than I was when DS was born Shock so far no sign but I wouldn't be surprised if they return soon.

BTW we DTD last night, tbh I just found it very uncomfortable and not much fun but DH is undergoing a very stressful time at work so he needed some comfort. Do feel like I am neglecting him as I concentrate all my energies on the DCs. Like 8RD I am finding 2 quite challenging, I am very in awe of those who manage with more than 2 and especially MOSP with 4! How is Percy now?

Cantremember - I often have to cuddle DD(10w) early morning before she goes back to sleep even though she normally sleeps next to me!! Problem is she is getting big and I've woken up with a dead arm a couple of times!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingMind · 22/08/2011 16:05

Moomin I keep seeing another mner with the name MoominsAreScary, when ever I see it I have to do a double take Hmm and then think, 'No she isn't..' Grin

motherofsnortpigs · 22/08/2011 22:37

O clever...you post about names and you've modified yours COAAM

kara that's interesting about BM always being good stuff. I'm not a dummy user and I tend towards underweight. I've had 2 surprise babies close to their older siblings. Do you think age is a factor in how quickly you become fertile again after birth?

RedVelvetFudgeCake · 23/08/2011 07:21

MOSP - possibly... I've not come across any studies to support it but that doesn't mean it hasn't been done!
BTW did you see that thread in B&B with the poster who said she didn't want to bf and was worried about being forced? I think it got deleted, tbh I thought the OP was a troll as some of things she posted frankly made me think, FFS you clearly don't want this baby...

KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/08/2011 07:25

Oops, forgot to change my name back!
Last post was mine....

motherofsnortpigs · 23/08/2011 07:49

Percy is fine, kara and the jump from 1 to 2 is far far harder than from 3 to 4. It gets easier.

moomin how do you maintain two mn personas? I can barely remember my rl name most days :)

motherofsnortpigs · 23/08/2011 07:54

o you're all at this name change lark now :)

Kara thanks for posting that, v.interesting reading! I too wonder if age & fertility has anything to do with it? I'm 20 & concieved DS whilst on the pill(!) Surprise wasn't in it! Then again, it could just be the dummy as it was literally 2 weeks after we introduced it. Could be coincidence though?

The name changing has me uber confused, please stop it - my aching brain can't handle it Grin

Super, you are possibly mad... Grin I wish you the best of luck with concieving DC2. DP & I haven't really decided when we want to try for DC2 yet.
