Hey all,

Greetings from the decaying house... :( Well it might not be that bad. We have structural engineers coming on wednesday so we'll see what they say. I've resigned myself to terrible news so anything better than that will be positive!

Lara was awake for an hour at 3am this morning, just chatting to herself! I had my earplugs in but she was squawking so loudly that there was no way I could sleep until she went back off. Must be a developmental thing!

In better sleep news, she's started to nap for longer, and I'm so pleased as the last 2 days I've managed to get both kids to sleep over lunchtime at the same time - BLISS!!! Am hoping this becomes our routine.

How long can everyone's LOs stay awake for comfortably now? Lara woke from her big nap at 3pm so I couldn't really fit in another one before bedtime, she was tired from 5 so I put her to bed soon after 6 this evening to make up for it.

Muser · 29/07/2011 19:20

Hello everyone, sorry to hear there's so many sleep problems happening. I hope things start improving soon.

I think weaning isn't too far off here. It's getting harder to stop my little madam from grabbing whatever I'm trying to eat off me!

Glad the returns to work went ok. I am still very much in denial about work. I am quite excited that I have my first afternoon off tomorrow. DH will be on duty with my collection of expressed milk while I go for a grown up lunch. I'm going to order something it would be impossible to eat one handed and go to the loo a billion times! Ah the things you miss.

Hope it turns out to not be as bad as all that Lozario. Fingers crossed.

gem3225 · 29/07/2011 20:38

Evening everyone, apologies not posted for ages but I read every night to catch up on what's been happening.
This is purely a selfish post but I feel really unsupported and undervalued by Dh n I don't mean darling!!
He says I'm wrong for submerging my DS's ears when bathing him. He loves laying down in the water n I don't see anything wrong but he thinks it's totally wrong. am I ?
He just never seems to say it in the right way n I take it very personally as he has 2 kids from previous n I just want to do a good job.

Muser · 29/07/2011 20:43

I submerge my baby's ears and she's swum underwater. Look at these pics many, many babies with their ears very submerged in water!

gem3225 · 29/07/2011 20:47

Thank muser I know In my head it's ok n DS is absolutely fine but he's made me doubt myself Sad

me23 · 30/07/2011 08:35

Hi everyone , on my iPhone so can't do as many personal as I would like.
Thankyou everyone for your tips for bedtime! And Thankyou Catherine fir thinking of me. Unfortunately nights have become even more sleepless. , nevermind regression he wasn't even this bad as a newborn. Up for 3 hours last night could not get him down, we have a wedding to go to today so can't even get a lie in.

hippo Congrats

lozario sorry to hear about your house hope sorted soon.

halo I can really emphasise with you right now. Hope you have some better luck with sleep soon. ((hug)) and I'm not a huggy person ;-)

Right I better go have full make up to apply for first time in 4 months, I hope Ethan sleeps through wedding/lunch.

sam26oscar · 30/07/2011 22:26

Hi all, well, this is first post that been able to do since we got back late thursday night from our hol, what with the 8 loads of washing and tumble drying as obviously July is the new winter and you can't hang washing out to dry anymore without it p***g down!
It was brilliant Grin.
oscar is a mermaid now and cassie an angel!!! I couldn't believe how good she was, slept thru til 5am and had 2-3 hrs in pram on beach!! mmm, however thats changed since we got home!!! To be fair though she was having a nap at about 7pm til 8-9pm, whilst we had our evening meal, very considerate!! Then putting her down for the night at about 10pm, so her long stretch was from 10pm instead of 8pm, which was rather nice as it meant i slept too!!!
I even went topless as some will see on FB photos Blush, i fully intended on wearing my bikini top but it REALLY irratated my nipps so easier in the end to just whip it off!!!! Not sure my Dad was best pleased but hey ho Wink.

Everyone was asking "so when are you going to wean cassie then?"
It seems that once you get to 4 months its the thing to do!! Some babies definitely, like my DS for example, he was weaned at 18 weeks as he was a pig hungry boy. However, at 22 weeks cassie not there yet, yes she watches me eat but she's not feeding any more often during the day or night ...yet!!! Does anyone know if its 24 weeks which they class as 6 months to start the weaning or 6 months from date of birth??

Prams.
Well, i have now widened my search and have re-adjusted my want list Wink

  1. Bugaboo frog
  2. Britax B smart4
  3. Britax B smart3
  4. Quinny Buzz 3 All have to be black or at a push Navy blue Grin I have slightly fallen in love with the frog!! Haven't actually seen one in the flesh as it were but love the look of it!! Any opinions on any of these welcome Grin

well, really must got to bed as have got 4 kids here this weekend, for some reason, i thoiught it would be a good idea to have my nephews for a couple of days Confused.

Hope you have good weekends Smile

Pameladej · 30/07/2011 22:34

Hi, just a quick note as am tired and desperate to go to bed! Sam, I went to an nhs weaning class last week and was told that 26 weeks it when the Dept of health recommends introducing solids if that helps? I'm finding that everyone (except my health visitor) seems desperate for me to get DS onto solids! Why is that?! He's a big boy but seems fine on milk at the moment so I'm not sure what the rush is!

Oops. Typed more than I planned. Must go to bed now.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 31/07/2011 19:06

Hi everyone

Back from Spain! Had a really fab time in the Sun. Izzy loved it, swimming every day. She even went in the sea! However, she didn't like it when she ate sand. Will post some photos when I get around to it.

Had a quick read of the thread. Glad everyone doing well. Izzy is loving her food - she's eaten all sorts now. She had a lick of my ice creamGrin it went down well!

Am impressed with those who popped back to work! Well dons to all the little ones taking bottles now, bet that's a relief. Not sure who mentioned it but there is no real evidence that calpol interferes with jabs so feel free to dose up the babies!

Will try and reply individually to everyone later.

Lozario · 31/07/2011 19:18

Evening. Quickie from me. I'm ill :( Horrible cold; possibly hay fever but I don't think I can take anything breastfeeding for hay fever? Anyway am in a terrible mood! Plus it was my birthday yesterday so I'm even OLDER!

Welcome back you holidayers. Jealous! We're going to North Devon at the end of August...

Pamela and Sam I know what you mean about people being so keen to get them on solids - I find it especially with older generations because they all weaned babies so early. Have I said here yet that my little brother's first solid food was a bit of my mum's mars bar at 3 and a half months??!! (I promise my family aren't as chavvy as that makes us sound!!) Anyway, Lara is 18 weeks now and in no way interested in solids... She won't even take calpol! (Mad girl, it's lovely!!)

Gem I definitely submerge my baby's ears when she's in the bath. Struggle to think how I'd avoid it to be honest as she loves her bath so much that she dips her head back! She's started splashing her 2 year old brother which makes me laugh - she's braver than him!!

God I feel like crap. Anyone else hayfevery? If not then it must be a cold. Still, after having swine flu when I was preggo I can put up with a cold!!

Hope everyone has had a good weekend :)

Muser · 31/07/2011 19:51

There are some hayfever tablets you can take while breastfeeding but I can't remember which ones. Worth a google though.

Glad you had a good holiday cheese.

I am kind of starting to wean. Not being very planned with it yet as she's 2 weeks off 6 months. But she was showing signs of being ready (sitting up well in the high chair, lost her tongue thrust reflex, trying to grab all my food) so I gave her some banana today. I'm planning on doing baby led weaning with probably a bit of spion feeding too, so I just put some chunks of banana in front of her to see what she'd do. She did manage to give it a bit of a suck but not much more than that.

I am in no rush to wean though, it's a lot of extra stuff to carry round!

haloflo · 31/07/2011 20:11

Just a quick one from me to show lozario this leaflet about hayfever and breastfeeding

Off to bed now, hugs to me23 This will pass...

hitchedhippo · 31/07/2011 20:41

Welcome home Sam and Cheese glad you had lovely time on your hols.

Lozario Sad you're having a really bad week arent you. Sad
If it is hayfever, the only one I was able to buy from my local pharmacy was Benadryl Cetirizine. Bless them, they went through the packet of every single brand of tablet and that was the only one that was ok to use, as in liscensed, even though they are nearly all the same medication!
Otherwise, if you visit GP, they can prescribe eye drops and nasal spray, but I am a complete wuss when it comes to nasal spray I didnt bother going down that route. Dont be afraid, go get some tablets, you'll feel miles better.

Happy Birthday for yesterday, you are NOT old!! I hope you had a lovely day, I know you got cake Wink

Regarding weaning, I think it is all relative to whatever the guidelines are at the time, so to the previous generation, we are weaning late as opposed to them weaning early IYKWIM. If next month the guidelines changed and 'they' decided we'd all been doing it wrong then the next generation would be agog that we could keep our babies fed for as long as 6 months lol.
Anyway, as for us, Beth is doing fine, she is 19weeks, and had peanut butter and veg puree for tea tonight! She has now had all the 6 allergenic foods, peanut, sesame, cows milk, egg, wheat and fish, and is fine with all of them. Still 90% BF but I'm starting to try again with introducing a bottle (it would be really nice to have more than one glass of wine on my wedding day!) to no avail. Absolutely not interested in bottles. Tried her with a sippy cup and she took loads. Cant see her taking a cup if she wakes in the middle of the night though...

Halo how are you feeling now? Are you a bit more rested?

pettyprudence · 31/07/2011 20:57

halo i came on to post the same link! BFN is brilliant for confirming what drugs you can and cant take because almost all packets say no when bf-ing when actually they are fine!

Had a brilliant but exhausting weekend at home and went to a massive carboot sale this morning - it was brilliant. Got and IKEA rocking moose and a vintage wooden chair for Arthurs room. Going to go again next weekend!

Love to everyone having sleep problems, lost track of who as we all seem to be going through some stage of sleep (or lack of!) hell. I keep reminding myself that its such a short time of our/their lives in the grand scheme of things, but tbh it feels like a never ending torture of sleep deprivation! Need MN to create a sleepy emoticon!

haloflo · 01/08/2011 19:11

hippo I'm ok I think. No change with sleep and last night was a bad night. Woke 8.30, 9.30, 11.30, 2 until 3.30, 5 and then 6 for the day. The reason for the extended awake time and early rising was dirty nappies. Why doesn't she go during the day??? Napping when she does is keeping me going. I just want to know that one day I can stay up past 9.30 and have the possibility of a few unbroken hours. Its really hard to see that it will pass at the moment. As petty said - such a short period of our lives but it does feel never ending. HV wasn't very helpful. Basically told me to leave her to cry for naps so she learns to settle at night. I will work on self settling but I would rather do it without her crying.

catherine You asked about groups. The only one I really like is bf support on wednesday, i've not found another one that i've settled into as well. The bf support girls are brillant and i've cried on them more than once. We started to meet on Fridays too which is good.

Jupiter Thanks again for the bra and chocolate Grin You are so kind.

lozario I keep Hannah awake for about 2 hours usually between naps. I'm not sure if this is right - anyone else? In the afternoon she often resists a nap and then its gets too late. We often get her flagging early evening and end up putting her to bed at 6.

me23 How was the wedding?

My mum is off for the summer holidays (teacher) and DP has 9 more working days and he is off too. Hopefully this will help me restore my sleep debt but I will need to learn to let her go a little and not worry that she wont be happy without me. I am going to try to let my mum take her out tomorrow I think. I have to be ready for the estate agents to do the EPC at half 9 so will be in need of a nap.

Another thing getting me down at the moment (sorry this is a moany post) is night sweats. Anyone else still suffering? I still get lots of discharge too (I asked you all if this was normal 8 weeks post birth - well i've still got it at 18 weeks) GP said its not enough oestrogen (I am still very milky) but nothing they can do if I want to continue to bf. Not feeling my most attractive atm. Sad

Muser · 01/08/2011 20:01

Sorry the sleep isn't improving halo. Definitely get your mum to take the baby out. I had an afternoon out last weekend, my first, and it was amazing. DH had baby responsibility, I had cocktails. I was really worried that she wouldn't take the bottle, or wouldn't settle after a bottle, but she was absolutely fine. They had a blast.

sam26oscar · 02/08/2011 18:36

Wow!! Where is everyone??!!

Cheeseandbiscuits · 02/08/2011 21:10

Quiet ain't it?!

So hot today and Izzy is poorly. Temp hit 39 today so we'll be off to sit in the GPs tomorrow. Poor thing, she's fine as long as the calpol keeps coming every 4hours. Expecting a bad night.

hippo many congrats on your engagement. Very exciting. Enjoy planning your big day - I loved it!
halo sorry things are a bit miserable at the moment. This prob doesn't help right now but keep thinking "this too will pass"
*lozario" happy birthday for t'other day, hope you had a lovely day!

cherub59 · 02/08/2011 21:35

Gosh it is quiet! Apologies but have been lurking for a few days! Am on iPhone app so won't remember all the things I wanted to say to everyone!

Hot hot hot here - 28 degrees in ollies bedroom. Happily the 4 month regression for us seems to have been regressing to acceptable sleep levels and he is even in his own bed now! Yey!!!

Definitely changing at the moment and tried to swipe my cereal bowl this morning! Must be having a growth spurt as I seem to have finally started losing a few pounds. And hr now wants feeding every two hours minimum during the day. Only thing is he is really biting me with his v sharp teeth so am a bit Hmm at each bf! Not sure if it's because he has had a nice chew on the bottle (still not sucked it) so thinks he can do the same on me? Never had this with my others!!! Dreading him getting the top 2 teeth too....

That's all from me ... Sleep tight ladies!

Jupiter118 · 02/08/2011 23:46

[crashes in through the tumbleweed;-))]

V quiet must be the heat - have to admit that typing on iPhone sometimes puts me off posting am v lazy.

halo glad bra arrived

cheese love the Spain photos!

Will come back and post properly tomorrow but too tired now. Children are asleep DS though is the one up in the night ATM tho - grrrrr. E does tend to wake at about 5 just now tho for what sounds like singing for about 20 mins. Tis happy sOunding tho so we leave her and generally goes back to sleep. Am much better this time at leaving well alone for 5 mins or so to see if self settling happens - was rubbish with DS - he was in and out of cot/ basket all the time.

Night all x

Medee · 03/08/2011 09:57

oops, this dropped off my active list. Will catch up properly soon!

Cheeseandbiscuits · 03/08/2011 18:33

Gosh it is so quiet. Is everyone collapsed with sunstroke?

Izzy got quite poorly overnight with fever and cough. Been to doctors, she has got a chest infection so is on inhalers and antibiotics. Poor thing, she has had a tough old day and is now collapsed asleep in her cot. Hoping she will pick up tomorrow.

Lozario · 03/08/2011 19:02

Evening! I think the heat deters from computer action! Also, I can't get the MN app to work on my iphone. It's really annoying, I've re-downloaded it a few times and it's still not working. Hmph. Anyway...

cheese poor Izzy! Especially in this heat. My two have had cold and it turned to croup in my DS :( He's ok now. I hope Izzy gets a good nights sleep and is full of beans tomorrow.

Jupiter Lara never cries in the night when she wakes (usually once around 3ish) but I usually just feed her and put her back and she resettles - I wonder if I should leave her for longer to see what happens but I'm just so desperate to get back to sleep before I wake up properly!! How old is your DS?

cherub ooh teeth, DS was a killer with that! He had 8 by 8 months so I had to stop bfeeding at 9 months because I couldn't take the russian roulette anymore! To be honest though he'd lost interest by then anyway, he was never a big milk drinker. How long are you planning to BF?

halo I hope the sleep improves for you soon - it's such a killer isn't it. Just keep reminding yourself, it's not forever. I know that's little comfort in the early hours. Getting as much help as you can is definitely the way forward! I've had DH off work today and it's been brilliant!

Well, the main news here is that Lara rolled from her front to her back! Sort of accidentally and a million years after everyone elses babies, but still she is the youngest! It was funny, she looked really surprised.

And... our house isn't falling down!!!!! Hurray!!!!!! The structural engineer confirmed that we have no movement and so the burst pipe must have been due to previous movement before the house was underpinned about 20 years ago, and then a little bit of pressure since has finished it off. SO RELIEVED!!!!! We still have a gaping hole in the middle of our house but still, it could have been a LOT worse!

Waiting for Dominos pizza to arrive now, mmmmmmm

pettyprudence · 03/08/2011 19:15

too nice to mn! I think it will be busy on here tomorrow when it rains!

Arthur has been sleeping in his own room now for a few nights. He doesn't sleep any longer but I am getting better quality sleep not listening to his mutterings, chattings, twitchings, snoring, etc........ My room feels big and empty without his enormous cotbed though and I do miss him a bit, although it is nice going to bed, putting the light on and having a read!

Fingers crossed he starts to think "hmmm its nice sleeping in here, don't think I'll bother waking up anymore" Hmm

I've had a boring past couple of weeks and now I have invitations/plans coming out of my ears Grin This comes at a time when Arthur is now happier napping at home and life is easier that way (compared to when he was tiny and staying at home would send me loopy!).

Hope everyone has made the most of the sun today. Off now to look at everyones holiday photos on fb in envy Envy

KPidgeon · 03/08/2011 20:29

Hi folks,

Gosh I've been away from here for ages. Had a week back in Wales with my parents which was brilliant. No housework and my mum took E for each early morning. You could see he benefited from having 3 other grown ups around to stimulate him too. He's a different baby! So strong and almost sitting by himself I think.. not rolling yet but very enthusiastic about holding his feet and chewing them from time to time.

As I said on fb sleep is still shocking here- like halo. He doesn't fuss or get grouchy but wakes every 2 hours still and I feed him back to sleep. I think I need to be tough and not feed him because I think he's using it to settle when I'm sure he could go longer (he goes 4 hours in the day without milk).

We are thinking of moving him out the room. Didn't think I'd want to but I wake when he's happy in the cot in the early hours when I could keep sleeping.

Hope you are all well. Sorry for not catching up properly on things.

K x
