pettyprudence · 23/08/2011 18:15

Just been out stalking the boards for news from Spilt - nothing yet, but tooimmature is pg! Due early April! Hope she doesn't mind me posting that but I am soooo pleased for her!

KPidgeon · 23/08/2011 19:23

Wow it got busy on here. Just popping on to send good wishes to spilt and tooimmature- good investigating on mumsnet guys!

Better nights here- thank goodness. They will sound nightmarish to most of you but E went fed at 7, 9.30pm, 1am, 4am and woke at 7.30am yesterday. For us this is so much better. He also went from 11pm until 4am the night before, then woke at 7.30am. 5 hours is the longest he's ever gone between feeds so I really hope things are moving in that direction. From every 2 hours at night to this is a big improvement.

He's 20.5 weeks so a youngster on here but around 20lbs now so a chunk.

Amazing to hear some of your LOs are crawling! E loves chewing his feet but no sign of rolling yet.... so think we're a way of crawling.

Oh and our big thing is that it looks like we're buying a house in the village where we are renting. Never owned a house before so VERY excited. Can't wait to make a proper room for E too. He hasn't got a nursery here so longing to make a little room especially for him. Fingers crossed everything goes through.

ckny1 our pooh smells buttery too (!) Think it's the sweetness of butternet squash/sweet potato- if you fed him either of those? E just had avocado mixed with baby porridge for his tea (odd I know but he already had banana at lunch time). He ate it all still.

Oops- wrote too much.

Halo- do let us know what your HV says about your sleep diary. I'd love to know any tips.

KPidgeon · 23/08/2011 19:26

Oh and naps- E seems to need daytime sleep though always grizzles and fights it before he goes down.

Has around 45 mins in the morning (Around 2 hours after he's woken up). Then an hour (or more ideally) after lunch, then needs and has a shorter nap of around 30-40 mins at around 4-5pm. He fights this the most so I often push him in the pushchair for this one. Sometimes has an extra nap in the afternoon or morning too if we're on the move!

He may have that much because his nights are still so broken though...

haloflo · 23/08/2011 20:19

Congratulations to tooimmature Smile

k She said I was doing really well! I'm not convinced. No tips, just keep on with self settling and trying first foods. I'm going to keep the sleep diary going to check for patterns/signs of improvement.

Last night she went down at 6.15, woke at 9, 12, 2.30 and then was up til 5. She then did 5 til 6 and then 6-7.30. This is not "doing well"- yes she wakes less but its more tiring being up with her than when she wakes for a short feed! No idea why she waking but last night she was a bit grumpy and whiny so I guess it could be teeth.

E sounds very similar to Hannah - not rolling (the one off the other week must have been encourage by DP - his weight on the bed or her grabbing his tshirt) but loving her feet. Defiantly not crawling - she is going to need stronger arm muscles to move her 19lb plus body forwards! She is 21 weeks today.

Hannah defiantly needs her naps but no routine as yet (sleep diary confirms this!) just generally 2 hours after she woke.

Congrats on becoming a first time buyer. We are also moving - just about to make an offer on a house but our flat is sold! Moving with a baby - should be fun!

ckny I understand 6mo's often fall into the 2-3-4 nap routine. So wake at 7, nap at 9 for about an hour, then 3 hours later they need a longer lunchtime nap of about 2 hours, then they can last until 7pm for bed. I think if the lunchtime nap is cut short then a catnap about 4 is ok still. (I've read a lot about sleep!)

cherub I hope DS1's hearing is ok.

lozario I hope you have a fab holiday.

The nearest ikea is a hour away. Not sure I can face the drive for some pretty coloured plates, cups and bowls - or can I?!

1catherine1 · 23/08/2011 20:45

Congratulations KPidgeon - You really cannot imagine how Envy I am of you. One thing I would love to do more than anything is own my own home just so I could give my Anya her own special little princess room. You will have so much fun decorating it for E :)

RE naps - Anya is only 5 months but is getting quite predictable. She wakes between 6 and 7:30 and has her first nap at around 9:30 (when I peacefully watch Jeremy Kyle Grin), then she has another nap around midday then another at around 4. All naps vary in length. This week she has been going down at 7:30 except tonight when she slept too long in the evening so went to bed at 8:15 instead.

She is suffering with major separation anxiety though. I don't know what to do, she cries if anyone but me holds her and today I went out for an hour and 10 minutes (we'd been swimming so I assumed she would just sleep) and apparently she woke about 2 minutes after I left and cried constantly until I got back and tracked my mum down who was trying to calm her by walking her. I'm back to work in less than 2 weeks. Anyone know if she'll grow out of this quickly or if I'll have to do something to make her get past this?

Halo - Well since you are due a move from your flat to a house I'm sure you have more room to fill - that could justify a trip to IKEA :) But doing the trip just for pretty plates... maybe not Hmm. The do deliver some items for a small charge.

Anyway.. before I write too much again Wink I hope everyone is getting some rest and enjoying their quickly growing babies!

JoJoB77 · 23/08/2011 22:06

Hellooo ladies

Wishing spilt and tooimmature all the very best, lovely lovely news.

Kpidgeon sounds like things are improving, hope there is more of that to come.

I'm going to IKEA in Birmingham tommorow for a few things for a cafe that DH is opening but I'm more interested in getting baby stuff! I need to make a list as I can see me forgetting to get the things I'd originally planned to get.

Re naps...R naps around 2 hours after waking, now and again she will go without between feeds. She naps anytime between half hour and hour and half, the most being after her 9/10am feed. She is a very grumpy girl if she doesn't have lots of kip. She really seems to know when bedtime is now as she will sometimes have a small nap before her bath/bedtime routine and will still be rubbing her little eyes while putting her pyjamas on.

I'm contemplating the commencement of weaning soon. She is 20 weeks tommorow but we are going to my parents caravan this weekend near Weston Super Mare so I might hold off until next week.

I have to say I'm so in love with my daughter, and it's just growing more every day.....I know you are biased about your own child but she is so beautiful I just can't believe it. Whilst preg I always wondered what my baby would be like and I could never have imagined how it is now. It's just a miracle isn't it?!

Sorry, I'm rambling but after the first tough few weeks (months?!) I'm really enjoying being a mommy and all the lovely things she is giving back!

Hope you're all well xx

Medee · 23/08/2011 22:17

That's great news for TooImm, glad to hear that.

EA naps roughly every 1.5-2 hrs for 30 minutes at a time - I really wish it was longer and more predictable, she's so much happier when she's not sleepy.

1catherine1 · 23/08/2011 22:45

aww Jojo... I definitely know the feeling. It is quite magical in a way. Mother Natures way of ensuring us mothers look after our young is to make us love them so much!

ckny1 · 24/08/2011 11:35

Jo, your post made me teary-eyed, it's wonderful that you are finally able to enjoy every moment of mummyhood!!! :) We DO have cuties, and I find myself just staring at F all day!

Congrats on new home, KPidgeon, seems like you just moved! We're also contemplating buying in London, or moving to NY!!!??? Can't wait to know what we're doing so that we can get a highchair!!! (BTW, our buttery poo was a result of steamed carrots!)

Edeluna, I agree that it's better to have less naps as long as he is sleeping longer through the night! The last few nights I placed him down at 7:30 and he woke for a feed at 5am, then for the day at 7:45! Not bad, as now I'm going to bed at 8:30 to catch up with his active day routine.

Halo, interesting nap schedule. I've already put him down 2.5 hrs after he woke this morn, and he's still asleep (after 1.5 hrs)! Let's see how it works.

WRT commando crawling, F only does this backwards and in circles, hasn't managed forward, so not sure whether it's officially CCing! :)

I was furious at poor DH yesterday when he reiterated that I must blend food thoroughly b/c F's tummy is sensitive, which I do. Then he went on to say how his mum, who's a health freak (which I'm becoming), thinks it would be better for me to give him food from the JAR b/c it's already smooth for new eaters. I don't know why this p'd me off, perhaps b/c I had been watching the baby alone for 2 days w/o help, as well as 2 weeks in the States w/ some help, and have been excited to finally feed him healthy food that I control, in addition to formula made in China. I guess I felt like my weaning bubble was burst, AND I'm sensitive when people tell me what to do when no one has helped us in 5 months.

Rant over. Enjoy your days all!

cherub59 · 24/08/2011 14:07

Just taken ds1 and ds2 to see hairy maclary at the riverside studios in hammersmith. Def recommend it. It's for age 1+ and was so sweet!

Hurrah!!! o had a good night last night waking once between 8 and 6.30 for 20mins! Hurrah!!!!!!

Still having plenty of naps with usually about 13-14 hours sleep in 24 hours as will have up to 4 short 30 min naps or a couple of short naps and a long nap up to 3 hours long. I try not to let him sleep after 3.30 but yesterday he fell asleep at 6 and I woke him at 6.30 then he went to sleep so easily at 8 and I had a fab night!!

Think he finally rolled over this morning but only because he was chasing booby!!

mummmmmy · 24/08/2011 18:19

Hi all, I've not posted in a while (was pameladej) but have been keeping up with everyone's updates when I get the chance. It sounds like everyone is busy weaning, rolling and crawling. None of any of those going on here yet! A did a few rolls from front to back a while ago but seems to have forgotten how to do this now!

Am planning to start weaning him in a couple of weeks so will be popping to Ikea next week to get a high chair (plus lots of random stuff I don't need I expect).

Any plans for another London meetup? I'll try to come along to the next one if there is.

Does anyone have anything nice planned for the bank holiday weekend?

pettyprudence · 24/08/2011 20:11

jojo I had been thinking/feeling exactly the same. I am REALLY enjoying my mat leave now and Arthur is genuinely a delight to spend the day with. When he comes in my bed in the morning I wonder how I'm going to get anything done as he just coo's, chats, smiles and rolls about. He seemed to settle in to himself at about 14/16ish weeks and he seems a much happier baby, plus I am more practised at reading his needs. Oooooh I just want to squidge him and kiss and cuddle him all day long..... apart from when he had a screaming hissy fit this afternoon because he was tired but wouldn't sleep Hmm

sam26oscar · 24/08/2011 21:33

jo i live in weston are you going to brean??
Rubbish sleep here, i would have thought by 6 months (which she is today Grin,) she would be going 7-7am Sad
however, she is now on 3 meals a day, which she did within 4 days, she only started to eat on saturday and now she has all 3, which the HV said would happen if i left it til 6 months.
i think she must be having growth and devlopment spurt as she wakes every 2 hrs from 12 midnight til around 5-6 ish, very depressing as i thought the food would have helped.
Those of you lucky ladies with babies who are sleeping are they FF??
just interested as i am seriously considering formula to see if it makes a difference.
well, being booted off the laptop for DH to use
lots of love to split ans Too immature

1catherine1 · 24/08/2011 21:48

sam Anya is BF and now sleeps from 7:30pm till 6:30am waking for a quick feed at about 5am. It feels like she sleeps through as she comes into bed with me and we go back to sleep together. Tbh I don't think she needs to wake then but I think she does out of habit and loves our morning cuddle and unfortunately I love it too so haven't the heart to break her routine. She occasionally wakes around 2 but I am pretty sure it is teething related.

Anya is 22 weeks today and has been on solid foods now for 2.5 weeks. She is on 3 meals a day and adores feeding herself with the spoons and it is such a joy to watch. Considering what the next step is now. From what I have read the next step is to drop a milk feed but I'm not sure when or if she is ready. She loves food and has been having 2fl oz a meal and when we're done she still seems to want more. Going to get her weighed tomorrow at the clinic local to my parents just to make sure she hasn't lost any weight and is still going well with the introduction of solids. Then I will decide.

haloflo · 25/08/2011 07:26

sam Sorry to hear C's sleep is going downhill. There is a growth spurt at 6 months - maybe just that which is disrupting her sleep? Is it a wonder week too? (I don't have the book) Good to hear she is on 3 meals so quick. This is my nervousness about waiting -that it would take ages for solids to be established. Apparently the FF thing is a myth but if Hannah would take a bottle I might well have tried it just in case!

cherub I love that O rolled over for boob!

catherine Anya sounds like a brilliant sleeper Envy!

Hannah has made sleep progress. I almost dare not type it in case it jinxes things.

Last 2 nights she has done a long stretch. On Tuesday she did 6.45 - 11.30, then up every 2 hours (although not wanting feeding for all). Last night she did 6.10 -12 and then 12-4. Unfortunately she then only did 5.30-6.30 but still - look at those long stretches!!! Nearly 6 hours is the most she has ever slept. Anyone else have a baby that loves to go to bed early?

If I could stretch her bedtime until 8 then I would only have had one wake up but unless naps get sorted she is tired out by 6 and its a struggle with her from 5 onwards (won't be put down unless constantly distracted.)

Unfortunately I only went to bed at 9 and DP woke me coming in from the pub at 11 so I continue to have broken nights. But still progress is progress.

Oh and she has gone to sleep by herself 3 nights out of the last 4 without tears.

JoJoB77 · 25/08/2011 07:31

Morning all

For the first time ever, R didn't wake up once during last night and I can't believe it! She did 8pm until 5.45am and I almost did a little jig I was so happy!

I'm not sure if not having a nap between her last two feeds made a difference but I think it might have been more the fact she was watching my niece jumping on the trampoline and was giggling her little head off, think it tired her out!

sam26oscar yes we are going to Brean tomorrow and I can't wait! Sorry your having such rubbish nights at the mo. I am FF but she has always woke during the night, although it's never for feeding now, more out of habit I think.

Well I went to Ikea and bought some bowls to use for weaning. I could have bought much more though!

pettyprudence · 25/08/2011 09:43

I don't know if there's something in the air Sam as Arthur woke every 90mins-2hrs last night - grr. Better go, he's just woken from his morning nap....

Cheeseandbiscuits · 25/08/2011 15:35

Hello everyone, we're currently on the London Glasgow train on our way home. Had a lovely break and the train was easy!

Congrats on all those who are getting more sleep Smile and commiserations to those who have had bad few nights.
Can't remember all the specific news from everyone. Sounds like weaning is going well for everyone. We are also doing our own purees but sometimes I leave them a bit lumpy as I think they need to learn textures too. I used a couple of Ellas kitchen pouches while we were away. Very convenient but I think I found them too smooth - she kept sucking and chewing on air! Haha.

Will have a wee catch up on the thread bow

highlandbird · 25/08/2011 20:55

wow, finally a chance to catch up on here!!

Cherub laughing lots at thought of O rolling over for booby, maybe I should try that with A he's not even remotely interested in rolling over!!
Sam are you doing BLW? I tried to wait till 6 months but just started feeding Angus today he seems really ready for it, but not sure whether to jump straight into 3 meals a day, he'll be 6 months in a couple weeks.
Catherine wow on sleep and feeding, sounds like Anya is doing grand :)
Halo sooooo glad to hear things are improving with Hannah on the sleep front, you've had a rough time of it recently and deserve to catch up on some zzzzzzzzzzzzz!
JoJo hooray for your sleep....I'm waiting eagerly for that magic night to happen! And I know what you mean about loving your baby so much, the first few months seemed to pass in such a blur and its great now to really enjoy them and their gorgeousness isn't it? I feel like all I want to do is cuddle Angus and smell his gorgeous baby smell sometimes....
Jupiter and Lozario enjoy your hols am very Envy !
cheese glad you had a good break, good to get away sometimes isn't it? And commando crawling?! Wow! Shock
KPidgeon exciting stuff about house buying!!
Purple how's Beth's bedtimes now?? Hope its getting better, we're doing something similar here, and its definately improving!
ckny LOL at naked 'commando crawling'!! :D
Any news from Spilt???

Sorry for ridiculously long post Blush , never get a minute to myself to write on here although read thread most days!!! Not much development here, A is 23 weeks now and we just started BLW today....well he kind of started himself really by grabbing my banana (he did this a couple of weeks ago too!) he also had a couple of steamed mangetout and carrot sticks. Problem was when he dropped a bit or couldn't get it in his mouth he got VERY upset and screamed / cried till I picked it up for him or held it to his mouth Hmm by my understanding not quite how its sposed to work?!
Lovely to hear everyone's weaning stories I'm very excited about this stage.....although not about the poo!
Right, early bed for me, still waking every 3 hours-ish here, night night!

me23 · 25/08/2011 20:59

I everyone just a quick catch up via iPhone had a good time in Somerset and have started weaning again as Ethan was crying whenever we ate and he loves his food now though he is constipated and really straining for a poo today so going to give him some apricot and prune purée tomorrow, is that a good combo? Or should I try prune with something else?
We have used ellas kitchen and plum pouches very expensive but handy and E likes them but it is fun making your own. As E can't sit up yet we can't put him in the ikeA Highchair so we feed him in his swing, I wish I hadn't bought the bumbo Ethan doesnt like it.

Congrats on those moving, we were supposed to move this Monday to a lovely 3 bed house but the woman pulled out with only 2 weeks to go so back to the drawing board. Dd is in a box room at the moment no way Ethan could fit in there too so he is in with us until we move.

I really wish I could find a way to make E sleep other than on the boob every night it is the same he cries and cries on and off the boob before bed, he always has to cry before he goes to sleep anyoe else LO do this? It is so stressful as some nights it can take 30-40 mins before he falls asleep in my arms I have never left him to cry. I need to sort it out as OH will be putting him to bed sometimes when I'm back At work, speakif of which I can't believe it is almost time to go back!

1catherine1 · 25/08/2011 22:41

me I know the feeling. Today I tried letting Anya cry it out and I felt evil. She cried for a full 55 minutes before falling asleep!!! I wouldn't do it but I know my OH and he won't sooth her, he'll just complain that she was hard work and that he's tired [unsympathetic smiley]
Highland Banana is tricky to hold, maybe more finger friendly food like carrot sticks? :) Tbh I'm refusing to pick a side on this BLW and spoon led weaning and doing whatever I like. Anya loves to eat with her hands but when we tried banana we ended up mushing it and using a spoon or she got annoyed too.

Quite an eventful day here really. We made Anya go without booby from 8:30am till 4pm. She managed it ok with few screams after she realized she wasn't going to get a suck. We gave her the bottle - she sulked and refused. We then gave her some booby milk that had been frozen in slushy form on a spoon and she enjoyed it and had just less than 2fl oz. She was then not as hungry and took the bottle (we reverted to the breastflow bottles after my mum pointed out that my OH wouldn't cope to well with a beaker). At lunchtime we gave her more food to compensate for the lack of milk and then she slept till 3:30pm. When we got home though my boobs were killing me and she drank loads from them. At least I know it can be done so I can go back to work next week. I feel so guilty for doing this though :(

hitchedhippo · 25/08/2011 23:44

Yay spilt had a baby! Grin
I've no doubt she'll come and announce properly. Gotta stop this stalking lol!

Am so pleased for tooimm, I shed a happy tear, and a sad one for Thea.

Love to you all! X

cherub59 · 26/08/2011 07:27

Banana tip - you can get a little net thing to put banana and other foods that baby can't hold so easily. It has a little handle baby can hold then he can eat the slippery food by chewing it thru the net thingy.

I got one for ds1 from jojomaman or somewhere similar in the weaning section....

Banana can make them a bit constipated si don't give too much!
Going camping today! O has finally gone to waking only once a night so this is no doubt going to get messed up by camping! Fingers crossed it doesn't rain!!!

Kagey · 26/08/2011 14:03

Grin yay for spilt congrats! Congrats also to tooimm too!

cherub hope you have fab camping trip!

We are off to center parcs in holland on Sunday - can't wait!

Elise is 5 months tomorrow and can't believe how big she is getting, although she is quite a petite little thing considering her big birth weight. No teeth yet but plenty of dribbling so it won't be too long. Also she is very interested in food but I'm trying as long as possible to get to 26 weeks before weaning.

Anyhoo have a fab long weekend everyone and hope this soggy weather ends soon Smile.

highlandbird · 26/08/2011 16:27

ooooh, bought one of those netted handle things today from tesco we'll see how he gets on with it!

Kagey enjoy center parcs and Cherub enjoy camping, I'm very Envy although we're going to see family in Wales in a couple of weeks so will be a holiday of sorts, A will get spoilt rotten!

It was porridge for breakfast here today, made it quite thick then just gave him the spoon to play with, he's absolutely loving it, and I'm trying to stay chilled out about the mess :D

So happy for Spilt hope she comes on here to let us know how she got on, would do some stalking too but no idea where to start!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend! x
