Wow cheese we haven't even got a roll out of o yet tho he dis manage to travel around and get feet and head to his cot bars the short way!
CC can't do it won't do it no matter how desperate and I have been very desperate at times with ds1 and ds2. Closest we have been is 5 mins crying at age 1yr+. still it's all about survival and everyone does what they have to do to survive!!!
Lovely weekend here. Legoland yesterday ( pouring with rain for 2 hours but fab afterwards) then family swim at dh's gym this morning and SIL and BIL with their 2 month old over for the afternoon. He was teeny! Made me feel broody again - which is a risk as ds1 was only 8 months when I fell pg with ds2!

Tried o with baby rice on friday. He was so not bothered that I will wait til we are back from camping next week to try again. I remember ds1 and ds2 grabbing the spoon and being delighted with the concept so thing o just isn't ready despite heading for 22lbs.

Fished out some age 6-12 m trousers for him today but they won't do up round his tummy so had to put him in 12-18 m which were only a little long in the leg!!

hitchedhippo · 21/08/2011 21:25

Hi ladies, have been desperately trying to catch up with this thread, and am now only two pages behind! Nearly there.
Some exciting news - I really really hope spilt doesnt mind me sharing this, but I did a bit of searching and discovered she is in labour! Grin Am wishing her all the best, and can not wait to hear her news.
Love to everyone, I miss you lot when I dont post for ages, I feel like I've lost touch with all my besties lol! x

Muser · 21/08/2011 21:54

Jupiter118 · 21/08/2011 22:10

Jxx

Jupiter118 · 21/08/2011 22:18

Not sizing wishing!!! Bloody iPhone xx

ckny1 · 22/08/2011 08:58

Cheese, congrats to Iz, and it's clear that she's a free spirit, who needs to explore! :)

Happy thoughts for Spilt.

Franz had a few firsts this weekend (when it rains it pours chez nous): food -pureed carrots, which he would have finished the batch of, he's such a glutton like his parents, but I stopped at 3 spoons since not sure how his sensitive belly will take it; rolls on his belly on both sides now; and rolls onto his back...finally! He also scootches backwards and in circles everywhere and ends up under chairs, cots,...can't leave him!

I'm worried he's a danger to himself b/c he's so active! Just now during his nap he got his leg caught in his cot...again! Are those bed guards safe now at this stage? If it's not that, though, he'll find something else.

Jupiter, hope you're having a blast in southern France!!!

DH went on his first overnight work trip in a few years and we did well on our own, though am a bit knackered! :)

Purple, how was Beth's bed time last night?

Muser · 22/08/2011 10:02

I sympathise on the ending up under things problem ckny. We are putting our lovely low solid wood coffee table into storage until we move somewhere bigger. I keep finding my girl underneath it, even though she bangs her head doing it!

I fear the early crawling. She's just started pulling herself forward with her arms to grab toys and stuff. If I want a shower or anything I have to put her in her bouncy chair, high chair or cot to keep her contained.

I'm not sure when cot bumpers are meant to be safe from. Ours is still stashed under the cot and I was wondering about putting it back up.

edeluna · 22/08/2011 10:20

Hi all. Haven't had a chance to post in a while. Sounds like our babies are hitting lots of milestones. Great to know they are thriving.

Welcome back, CKNY. Did Franz get to experience a proper US summer heatwave while you were home?

Hope to hear some very happy news from Spilt very soon.

Re: crying. I haven't had the heart to let S go longer than 5 minutes or so. Once she hits that trembling cry of distress, I have to go to her. Right now I'm pretty much still feeding her to sleep. Might pay for that big time a little down the road but I figure she's only this little once and although I want another, I'm afraid DH isn't game, so I feel I should cherish this time and that sweet intimacy of having her in my arms for as long as I can. Surely she'll outgrow it by the time she's ten or twelve, right? Seriously, though, should I be worried? Should I be trying to get her to self-settle more? Probably. Hmm...

S has finally learned to roll over from her tummy to her back, so no longer gets stuck. She's also nearly crawling so has become very mobile. I think it's time to look into stair gates. Any recommendations?

Weaning is going really well. Started S on brown rice puree, then after about ten days started introducing fruits and veggies. So far she's had apple, banana, pear, avocado, carrot, broccoli and red lentil and she's loved them all. Hasn't spit it any of it out in disgust and is sometimes eating a startling amount of food. Last night she had three scoops of rice, 1 of lentils, 1 of broccoli and half a pear - then still wanted loads of milk. Definitely takes after both her parents on the appetite front. She's been sleeping loads better, too, usually only waking once during the night now, sometimes twice. But I know there's a big developmental leap around 26 weeks, so this lovely, much-needed period of calm may be coming to an end very soon. I'm enjoying it as much as possible while it lasts.

cherub59 · 22/08/2011 14:20

Edeluna I fed all mine to sleep and ds1 and ds2 gradually transitioned to self settling and sleep brilliantly now. Just go with it and enjoy it!

Medee · 22/08/2011 17:56

good news about Split, do we know if she has delivered yet?

Medee · 22/08/2011 17:58

edeluna, I'm trying to tell myself that she's little for such a short period of time, that if she needs me to feed to sleep and comfort her several times a night, that's the way it is, and it won't be forever. It doesn't stop it being hard at the time though, and trying to find ways to get her to sleep for longer.

haloflo · 22/08/2011 20:00

Hi all just a quick one from me. Thinking of split Hoping for good news soon.

edeluna I bet E can self settle. If she is only waking 1/2 times at night she is settling herself to go those long stretches. Its when they wake loads that you have to worry I think.

cherub Glad to hear O isn't into food yet either. I tried Hannah on baby rice and banana. She isn't interested in either. I'm leaving it for a while now, she is only 21 weeks tomorrow. At least i've tried and know that its not an easy road to sleep which i'm missing.

HV comes round tomorrow to analyse the sleep diary. (Did I tell you all about the sleep diary I have to keep after clinic last week?) I wonder what her recommendations will be? We have made progress with self settling (using dummy & comforter) as tonight and last night she went to sleep without me in the room. Still up 4 times last night though with awake time in the night too.

pettyprudence · 22/08/2011 20:56

Quick poo update (for those that might be interested Hmm Grin) - it got better! Must have been his rear end adjusting to this food malarky. Still not as nice as ebf poo but at least I'm not going to vomit all over the poor boy Grin

Pears went down a storm this morning. Not so enthusiastic about sweet potatoes but he ate them anyway (food is food??? He'll also take a bottle easily. Seems he doesn't care how and what he gets fed just so long as his tummy gets filled Hmm). A seems to be missing the off switch for registering when he's full?

Sleep still a bit hit and miss but mustn't grumble - 5/7 nights he sleeps beautifully then he likes to do a couple of nights of keeping me on his toes. I really hope he's back to normal tonight and tomorrow as I would like to be rested for my friends visit tomorrow and have the energy to go out for a bit!

Hope we hear from Spilt soon.... I might go and have a nosey on the August board......

1catherine1 · 22/08/2011 21:30

Evening all, nice to hear about spilt - I was thinking of her only last week. Someone do let us know if you hear anything more.

Purplefan - Anya seems to struggle with the bottle - takes her half an hour to get 1 fl oz so she gets annoyed. Such a disappointment but I found something that works quite well - for now at least. A while back I got a tommee tippee freeflow cup thinking we could try that and was horrified when I realized that the last bit of milk wasn't drinkable because of the design of the cup which is ok with water or formula but BM is sacred stuff. So I gave up with it but I went to IKEA last week and found these little beakers and she loves them. Although I've taken to making it like a meal experience. Dinner and milk from the beaker to wash it down. She'll take about 2 fl oz before she's had enough.

Edeluna mobile is scary, crawling already - wow. Are stair gates really all that different? My mum keeps telling me she doesn't think Anya will ever crawl as she is so good at getting around by rolling - just like her mummy :)

Petty - according to my dad it only gets worse. :(

Jupiter118 · 22/08/2011 21:37

Any news from spilt? Came on in hope if seeing lovely news!!

Blimey Tis v hot here, but lovely!! DS appears to be able to swim sans armbands so pool time a little bit more relaxing in an odd kind if way. Chilled baby - E - seems to love being pushed up and down in the baby float thing. We have wifi (for mn ing) and wine so all is good.

petty the whole poo thing doesn't get much better I'm afraid -desperately trying to train DS to wipe on own before school starts. The cries of 'finished' are almost worse than nappies as you kind of venture into the unknown iyswim. Sorry tmi!!

Right almost bedtime here.

Jx

Jupiter118 · 22/08/2011 21:40

Catherine love ikea - soon you will have coloured plates bowls cutlery and open cups - 6 to a pack in each nearly every home has them - v reassuring!!! Xx

Purplefan · 22/08/2011 21:57

Update for mean mummy here!! 40 odd mins on the 1st night, 25 mins of crying last night and just 15 mins tonight!!! Think we are starting to get somewhere, although I still feel very mean!!

Weaning is going well - but still no luck on getting Beth to drink from anything apart from boob!!! Catherine I am liking those little IKEA beakers very cute!! Don't live near an IKEA though, so prob have to stick to the tommee tippee freeflow cup and see how we go!!
Exciting news about Spilt hope she is doing well.
Ckny sounds like Franz has been busy!!

cherub59 · 22/08/2011 22:16

We have those ikea coloured cups/plates/bowls/cutlery.... Fab as £3.64 for the WHOLE set (6 of each) and is microwavable unlike melamine......

Poo .... Just keeps getting more like adult poo from here I'm afraid! Just wait til they get diarrhoea ... I remember ds1 age 11 months sitting at his little table and poo just pouring up and out over his trousers onto the chair and floor... That will make you vom!

O trying to roll and wriggling round. Woke me 3 times last night with head by the shirt width of the cot! But the most movement he does is when he dive bombs for my boob. He has started laughing lots at his big brothers who are very happy to jump up and down for hours to amuse him!

Seems ds1 has gone a bit deaf in one ear tho and he has to see a specialist next week. Fingers crossed just a build up of wax in his ear but feel Angry with dr as I went with him in April when I was first concerned and they said it would sort itself out. Well it hasn't!

Lozario · 23/08/2011 09:59

On way to Devon so just a quickie to say I'm off-comm for the rest of the week!

cherub about the hearing - that's exactly what me and my brother had as little kids and we were given grommets to sort it out. Maybe a bit of glue-ear? Does he have any pain?

Excited about split, will check in at some point to see if there's any news. I feel like that's come around so quickly! I hope her pregnancy has been ok.

God we are stuck in traffic over Battersea Bridge! Bored of car already!!! X

highlandbird · 23/08/2011 10:16

Argh, no time to write much as frantically trying to tidy before minister comes round to talk weddings, A just had a poo explosion during nappy free time (timing eh?!)
Have been lurking but not written in ages, loads of exciting news on here, sending many happy positivie thoughts to Spilt really hope there will be some news on here soon!
Right, will catch up later, still no rolling over here but evenngs have improved massively as started doing some controlled crying, feel like the worst mummy in the world but have stuck with it and only took 2 days to improve hugely!

Right, will catch up later!

Muser · 23/08/2011 10:26

cherub I had glue ear when I was little as well and went completely deaf for a while. Took ages for anyone to notice, apparently I spontaneously learnt to lip read. Wish I still could! I didn't get grommets and grew out of it fairly quickly. I got terrible earaches and car sickness during it though.

Have you tried a Doidy cup purplefan? I have one which my girl can kind of drink from with some help. I'm using to give her bits of water with meals now.

ckny1 · 23/08/2011 11:22

Blush Cheese, pardon my daftness but I thought commando crawling meant Iz was crawling w/o clothes (i.e., "going commando")! I just read about the other commando crawling and I think this is what F is doing, yikes!

Edeluna, the heatwave in the US was gross, but F adjusted (and perhaps preferred it to the A/C).

Muser, re cot bumpers, perhaps 6 - 8 mths are best time to use them as next potential hazard is when LOs try climbing them and over cot.

Medee, thanks for that perspective (about being this age for a short time)...I'll try to stay patient & keep this in mind as I rush to comfort him 10 times during nap time! :)

Does anyone know how many hours of sleep/napping per day is recommended for 6 mo? The every 1.5 - 2 hr nap schedule came about naturally, and worked wonderfully over past 2 mnths, but now when I put him down, he is too hyper, kicking and flailing arms in bed and won't nap!!! Also, now he doesn't have any long day time naps which is killing me! At least he's back to sleeping at night (until 4 or 5am), but I'd like for him to nap b/c he's clearly overtired!!!!!

First post-food poo yesterday and not so bad, smelled buttery for some reason! Hmm Sorry for TMI.

Purple, you're not mean mummy, and B knows that! :)

Cherub, hope DS's ear sorts itself quickly!

Lozario, have fun in Devon (and hope the weather improves!)

Must check out Ikea...

Muser · 23/08/2011 13:57

My girl commando crawls ckny, she's getting rather good at dragging herself along a little way to grab a toy that's just out of reach. Her latest thing is trying to get to the cat as well. The cat is wise to her though. She'll need to crawl properly to have a chance of catching her.

Not sure about sleep at this stage. We're on 2-3 naps a day, ranging from 30 mins to an hour. She might have an extra long one if we've been swimming.

edeluna · 23/08/2011 14:10

LOL, ckny, I thought the same thing. Now I've looked it up and, yes, this is what Sabine has been doing, too. She is managing to get up on her knees a bit more, though, and DH says he saw her actually crawl properly a bit the other day.

I thought I'd read somewhere that bumpers and mobiles should be removed around 5 or 6 months. S isn't really near climbing yet, so I think the bumper must be ok for a while longer. She can just kick the animals on her mobile, however, and will probably be able to reach them very soon, so I'm afraid that will have to go soon. That makes me sad because S absolutely loves her mobile and just smiles and smiles while it plays over and over and over again.

As for naps, S just won't sleep during the day anymore. She'll be extremely tired but will usually wake up 5 or 10 minutes after I put her down. Every once in a while she'll go for a whole half or or hour, but the days of her lovely long naps seem to be over for now. It does make the days tougher -- so hard to find time to do other things. But I think I'd rather have this than no sleep at night.
