Oh and I've got a bread machine so might make some low saltbread < pulls out domestic goddess halo and sticks on head >

Jupiter118 · 09/08/2011 23:55

cheese hoping your DH is home soon and safely to. If he us daddy cheese does that make him the grand fromage? Seriously though hope he doesn't have far to come to get home and his evening in a&e has been uneventful.

Am appalled by riots tbh - what utter scum and what are their parents doing??? WTF - things apparently reasonably quiet in Brum city centre disturbances but not anything as bad as last night. V pleased not to be at work as right in the city centre. You can watch stuff live in Brum on sky channel 847 v bizarre.

highland no tv wow - I feel like a philistine as watch way too much rubbish - never jeremy Kyle or anything like that though.

sleep sorry to hear such an issue for lots!! weaning sound like going well though for lots of you - will note as tips for later!

Right really must go to bed - stay safe ladies!

Jx

Cheeseandbiscuits · 10/08/2011 00:04

Thanks jupiter. He is leaving now. Its all quiet here so hoping he will be Ok. He had a few boys in with "burns from their moped" Hmm. Looks like tis kicking off in the North, thinking of everyone. I think its shameful.

Jupiter118 · 10/08/2011 00:09

Glad he is leaving now and hope not too long before you can go to bed.

So shameful, but glad to see communities bonding over cleanups etc - ever the optimist I hope some good will come from it.

Xx

Cheeseandbiscuits · 10/08/2011 00:10

S'alright Wine is helping.

I agree, its good to see. I hope that this is the end of it tonight.

cherub59 · 10/08/2011 06:52

cheese hope dh home ok.
We were out for supper last night and the pub closed at 10 as did all places near us on police advice. All a bit too close to home! Loads of sirens and helicopters.

O had his 4 month vaccines on Monday - late because he was poorly at 4 months. V clingy and difficult to settle on Monday night, woke 3 times, and his legs have gone all bruised where the vaccines were. Not had that before.

Last night as a special present for going out he just refused to settle so as we were at the pub opposite our house and I was late had to leave him with our vabysiter then go back an hour later to settle him when he looked tired. So didn't settle to 9.30 then up 2.20, 4.40 and now up since 5.50!!!! Got a busy day with swimming for big boys so hope he won't be difficult!

Cheeseandbiscuits · 10/08/2011 08:27

cherub all is fine here, DH got home fine at about 1am. Apparently the streets were empty. Hope you had a lovely evening out - you must be tired today. Good luck with the swimming.

Izzy finally went throgh the night again last night. So I had about 5-6hours sleep, bliss!

pettyprudence · 10/08/2011 16:27

urgh met a horrible hv at baby clinic today and that was before i even mentioned weaning him (i only mentioned because I wanted to know what to do about cheese and yogurt). On the plus side Arthur now weighs a whopping 17lb 5oz so I am really pleased with his development.

HV said to avoid cheese/yogurt/cooking with milk until 6 months, but its v confusing as petit filou (sp?) is marketed from 4 months. I guess its not something that would really enter his diet for another 3-4 weeks at earliest anyway while we do "tasting" and he will be almost 5.5months by then anyway.... Think I'm getting ahead of myself. I daren't ask on the weaning forum though because you get ripped to shreds for weaning a day before 26 weeks there Hmm

He has only had "solids" twice now and although I'm still not sure that I should be weaning him (although Arthur seems quite convinced its the right thing to do!) It was nice not being chucked up on all morning. I bf-ed him, then some cereal mixed quite thick with bm, then another little bm. I think it filled him right up though because at his next feed he only wanted one boob (normally a 2 boob man) and again I didn't get covered in sicky milk - yipeeeeee!

Things seem to be quietening down with "riots" but my friends dp has had the call to say he's going to London tonight. Fingers crossed he has a boring night!

haloflo · 10/08/2011 16:32

petty I think your HV is right, avoid dairy for now. Don't look at the packets, they just want to sell you stuff.

Re earplugs: I think I must have thought you were mad for wearing earplugs on the last thread which is why it didn't stick in my mind!

Hannah weighed in at 18lb 14oz today. This giant baby should not need night feeds!!

Hope tonight is quieter. Is your DH working late again cheese?

pettyprudence · 10/08/2011 17:31

Well done Hannah and Halo Grin But maybe she needs night feeds to keep that weight up Grin That's what I figure with Arthur Hmm

Muser · 10/08/2011 17:57

Oh wow, you all have such big healthy babies! Mine was a titchy 14lbs 5oz last week!

JoJoB77 · 10/08/2011 19:55

Ruby is a monster baby! At last weigh in 3 weeks ago, she was 15lb 13oz....I imagine she's getting on for 18lbs now. My back is feeling it when I pick her up now. The HV has always gone on at me about her weight which contributed to my horrid feelings at the beginning but now I feel much more confident and know my own child that I couldn't give a monkeys what she says about her weight now. The fact she goes through the night without a feed now is enough for me.

Re weaning, I am reading with interest. I don't think R is ready just yet, but everyone else seems to think she is on the verge. No-one spends anymore more time with her than me, but everyone else knows best of course! At lot can change in a week, development wise, so I'm open to it, but I'm happy to wait until I think it's the right time.....or until she swipes something out of my hand!

Hope you are all well and keeping safe x x

pettyprudence · 10/08/2011 21:26

too true jojo, it was only Monday I was convinced Arthur wasn't ready yet but for some reason on Tuesday morning it seemed right?

highlandbird · 11/08/2011 10:05

bleurgh, miserable in the Highland household, myself and A were just getting over a nasty cold and yesterday we both came down with a vile stomach bug, cue spewing and squits for both of us, neither of us could keep anything down and he hadn't peed all day so had to take him to out of hours doctor last night (hour and a half away!!!!) he was dehydrated so had to keep feeding him tiny amounts often through the night last night, and I got medication for myself, both of us feeling a lot better today though, but still having a pyjama and duvet day :( and he managed a wee last night.

Sickness rant over!!

Glad you're all keeping safe with these awful riots, hear it had quietened down last night so that's good news!

TV - we do actually have a tv just no tv reception, so we can watch dvd's, never bothered getting sky installed as DP has lived without tv for 13 years and myself for 5 years....wish we had iplayer though, internet connection too bloody slow! .....have a lovefilm subscription!! (we're not weird, honestly!)

Hope evreyone else well xx

highlandbird · 11/08/2011 10:07

ps. some VERY cute photos on facebook just now!!

pps. Sophie la giraffe has lost her squeak after being washed of vomit, so warning to others she doesn't like being immersed in water!!!!

Pameladej · 11/08/2011 11:33

Hi everyone!

I've not posted here for a while but have been reading the messages and checking out the fb pictures. Some lovely ones on there.

I washed Sophie the day she arrived in the post as knew the first thing Alex would do would be to eat her. Her squeak immediately disappeared!

Alex is sleeping pretty well now. Had a horrendous few weeks a couple of weeks ago where he was waking every few hours and not napping. He seems to be over that now as is sleeping through from His last feed at 11pm to around 7am (touch wood it stays that way!). Smile

His daytime napping is still very erratic though but I think I can live with that!

He's quite big too - I weighed him a couple of weeks ago and he was 20lb. He looks too big for his car seat but apparently shouldn't go into the next size up until he can sit up on his own for 30 mins. He can't sit up on his own for 30 seconds!

I'm looking forward to start weaning and am glad to hear there is a weaning thread. Do you know what it is called by any chance?

Glad to hear everyone is ok after the looting. We've had a lot of police cars and helicopters here in wimbledon but no serious damage. My local mothercare in colliers wood was trashed though with people stealing prams to transport tv's from the curry's next door!!!

Muser · 11/08/2011 12:11

Poor highlandbird, I hope you're all better soon.

I washed Sophie and she lost her squeak, but it soon came back. In future I think I'll just wipe her down. A few germs are good for the immune system, right?

KPidgeon · 11/08/2011 12:21

Hi folks,
Urgh- E has gone back to two hourly night feeds. It must be habit. I can't believe he is hungry that often, especially as he had banana with some porridge as well as milk before bed. I need to be tough and not go to him and leave him to settle himself I think...

Re car seats- both our baby one (From newborn) and our big next size up were given to me by a work colleague. (they are totally safe and not damaged). Pamela is that the case for moving them to the next size up? Sitting unaided for 30 mins?

Anyone else know?

Thanks!
K X

Pameladej · 11/08/2011 13:23

Hi kpigeon that is what I was told by a car seat specialist in Halfords - I'd recommend paying them a visit when getting the next one as the person I spoke to there was really helpful. The other reason we were looking was because we had a car crash so need to replace ours Sad and I didn't want to have to buy another size 0 one that he'll grow out of soon.

haloflo · 11/08/2011 14:47

kpidgeon I'm sure Hannah wakes two hourly out of habit as she only feeds for a couple of minutes. How/when I tackle them I don't know. Sympathies.

pamela The weaning forum is here here although like petty said they don't like early weaning. No idea about car seats.

No sophie here - are they a must have toy?

Jupiter118 · 11/08/2011 16:51

Afternoon all quick post as on iPhone and is a pain to type...

Rinsed our Sophie as well yesterday as ds' friend trod on it and whilst a few germs are good IMHO I draw the line at the bottom of 4 year old shoes. It did lose the squeak but only temporary as seems to be back now dry.

highland uggh at bug hope better now

Car seats echo going to Halfords or mothercare or JLP . I think they are supposed to stay rear facing for as long as possible even when sitting on own. They are supposed to be 9kg also but we had to move DS to forward facing at 8.5 months (and under9kg) as the little monkey escaped from the rear facing one. Our old seat he worked out that if he kept lifting his pelvis up and down the strap would loosen and as an early crawler and cruiser he was out. Will never forget DH suddenly steaming s* on a country lane in Herefordshire, screeching to a halt to find DS trying to pull himself up to stand on car seat with beaming grin on his face. HV advised forward facing seat ASAP. What a monkey (he is still now). Hoping DD will be more content to he still!!!!
Right am burning DS' tea!!

Purplefan · 11/08/2011 18:01

Hi everyone,
All sounds very exciting re- weaning on here!! We have had mashed banana so far and the freebie cereal. Think 2moro we might even try some veg Grin

Glad everyone is ok with all the horrible riots and looting that has been going on. Nothing happened round here thank goodness!

Had hospital apt for Bethan today and that went really well. She was weighed again and has now reached 10lb 6oz so we have doubled our birth weight at exactly 5 months old Grin, she's had a real growth spurt as was 9lb 14.5 last week!!
She is currently 55.5cm tall (so quite a shorty).

The pediatrician was lovely and we will be seeing alot of her in the years to come. She gave us a very informative booklet about turners syndrome and was able to answer our questions. We have been given a specific growth chart for TS children that starts from the age of 1, therefore we will be able to track her growth and carefully see how she is doing. We discussed growth hormones very briefly, but that is something that we do not need to worry about at the moment.
I forgot to ask her about the multivitamins that Beth was prescribed at birth - so will need to contact them to see if I continue to give them to her (mind you they stink and I don't always remember to give them to her - bad parent alert!!)

We have to take her back in 4 months and she has put in for an apt for her to have a kidney scan as this is another TS trait that needs to be looked at.

Also on the plus side - I had a much better night with Bethan last night 8.30pm-3am and then 6.15 wake up!! Much improved to every 1.5/2 hrs!!

Hope all ok - sorry for long post!! xx

haloflo · 11/08/2011 18:12

purplefan Well done for doubling Bethan's birth weight. Glad she is doing well.

highland Forgot to say either, I hope you are both ok. Sounds like a horrid bug and a really worrying time.

I'm supposed to be going out for a meal tonight. Hannah is staying in with DP. Fingers crossed she sleeps through it. I always worry she won't settle without me.

Pameladej · 11/08/2011 19:03

Thanks for the link haloflo. I'll have a look see if I can find some info on weaning as other than going to the HV course, I've not learned much about it yet

pettyprudence · 11/08/2011 19:40

Have fun Halo! I am planning on going out for the first time on 23rd August (I have it circled in my diary and everything lol) but think I will put Arthur to bed and then go as DH is a bit hopeless at getting the boy to sleep (how come Arthur is hysterical if i am a minute late putting him down for a nap but refuses to sleep at all for DH? Confused)
